It has now been roughly one year and six months, and I still do not have the boots. To Steven's credit, he has generally taken my calls, but the explanation has remained the same for months: the tops are being made, they are close, they are almost done. Unfortunately, none of those assurances have resulted in a finished product or even a clear, reliable update. Because I live out of town, I have made three separate trips to the shop to check on the order in person. Each time, I left with little confidence that anyone could clearly tell me where my boots were in the production process. On more than one occasion, it seemed difficult for them to even locate the order. I make a point of supporting small businesses whenever possible, especially craftsmen and local shops. That is why this experience has been so disappointing. Custom work can take time, and delays happen, but communication and accountability matter. After 18 months, repeated vague assurances are not enough. Based on my experience, I would caution anyone considering a custom order here. For me, this has been a very frustrating and disappointing experience.

After countless unreturned calls and texts, we recently ran into Steve in person. He promised the boots would be ready "this Saturday" -- but based on past experience and the fact that the shop is rarely open during posted hours, we're not holding our breath. More than anything, we just want honesty. If there are delays, say so. If the boots can't be made, tell us. What's been most frustrating is not just the wait -- it's being misled over and over. I told them I wanted to make sure they could match the color, or I'd prefer to take them elsewhere. They asked for photos of similar boots I owned, and I sent them. They said they could match them. Then today, I go in to pick them up--and the owner immediately gets in my face and says, "Listen here, buddy, this was a full repair, I don't know what the f** you expect."* When I asked what his problem was, he said I had "pissed off his wife," then shoved the boots into my chest (literally) and told me to "get the f** out,"* before coming around the counter like he was ready to physically remove me. Just to be clear: my communications with his wife were 100% professional--"thank you," "hello," etc. Nothing even remotely inappropriate or disrespectful. Also, all I said before he got in my face was my name and that I was there to pick up my boots. I'm still not sure why he's mad at me for screwing up my boots. Meanwhile, the boots still aren't the right color. I've owned them for 15 years--I know what they're supposed to look like. Rather than fix the mistake or own up to it, this guy resorts to threats and foul language. Unprofessional, unhinged, and completely unfit to be in business. Avoid at all costs.
