My wife and I had a great experience at the Hospice Thrift Shop the other day. We were impressed by the quality and selection of cool items that they offer. My wife was especially impressed by the salesperson that was helping her, I think her name was Lee. Lee was so knowledgeable about all of the various things in stock and was especially good with the jewelry area. We hope that Lee is there for our next visit to this cute little shop. read more

If you think goodwill prices are bad check this place out. Pricing is ridiculous. I think whoever is pricing items will need to take a walk to the Ross across the street once it opens. Once I was going to purchase an item when the check out lady looks at it and says this isn't the right place. She then takes the sticker for $5 off and says this is vintage it's $40. Almost funny. And a jacket for $40.00?! $40 for a women's blazer/jacket that has been in someone's closet for 10 years collecting dust. Give me a break! Unfortunately some staff here are just so rude. Trying to look at and buy the jewelry is a nightmare. Although who ever is behind the counter is trying to do their job I can guarantee they would sell more if they were a tad bit nicer to prospective buyers NO MATTER what they look like. Out of all the hospice shoppes the Martinez location off Morello is by far the most superior of them all. The set up, items and pricing are very well done and organized. They have reasonable and affordable prices as well as great standards for appearance and cleanliness. They have a very wide selection of items ranging from knickknacks kitchen, gadgets furniture, clothing, jewelry, oddities, vintage, as well as brand new items. The staff are very friendly, knowledgeable, and accommodating. Alana whom works in this location is AMAZING she is very personable, skilled, and knowledgeable. You can tell she really cares about her store and the customers experience. Leigh is very sharp when it comes to the jewelry and crafting materials and Michelle has wonderful customer service skills. They all go above and beyond to make sure you get what you need answered or taken care of. read more

EI received excellent service today in particular. I was there this afternoon and I forgot where I had put my cane. The staff looked as well as a customer to find it. No luck. I left my name & number and within 15 minutes, I received a call saying my cane had been found. I was relieved. Also VERY thankful for this customer service. I shop frequently and I find the store so delightfully displayed, especially for the holidays to come. Prices are so great. A real gem of a find. I highly recommend shopping at this hospice store. Ive heard of Hospice Thrift Shoppes when I moved to the East Bay. Always interested in a recyclable sustainability and that goes for clothing too. I think there's about 8 in the East Bay. Was running errands in the Martinez area and this one was just down the street. What I especially liked about this store is that it wasn't overly cluttered. Usually, if I go in a thrift store and there's too much going on I'll automatically walk out. This one had sections perfectly and just the right amount to search through. Done beautiful antique glasses, they had arts and crafts and the clothing section wasn't overbearing. The deals were a steal. I got 2 greeting cards and 1 book for ... $1! Going to now make it a point to go to all of them to see which one is my favorite. There was a marvel t shirt I regret not getting it was only $7. If it's still there next Tuesday I'm getting it! haha read more

My grandfather was assisted by them years ago so I love coming here to donate also (their donation hours are tuesday, thursday, saturday 10AM-1PM.) I came here today for the first time looking for a very specific clothing item. I was impressed with a few things, one being the size of the store on the inside. It looks so much smaller from the outside. Also the way their clothing was organized, BY SIZE! Ive rarely found another thrift shop that kept their clothing organized by size, it's often just by type or color. Which makes no sense. Basically the last thing on my checklist when it comes to clothes shopping is the color of the item. If I wear a size 2 and I'm searching through racks of sizes 6, 8, 10, 12 and beyond, who cares what color it is? So that was nice to see. The fitting rooms were also very comfortable, with a chair and a table. No need to hunt down an employee to unlock a room for you, they are easy to find and unoccupied rooms are obvious with wide open curtains. There was a sign with an item limit of 5. But who knows if it's enforced or not. The lady who rang me up was also pleasant and relaxed. So with all these great things, why only 3 stars? The prices. Most thrift shops have daily sales, this one might, but I guess I came on the wrong day because it was only furniture on sale today. Most of the clothing items I looked at were between 6 and 12$, regardless of the condition. Pricing seemed to be based on brand, but that's just a guess. I found a zip up hoodie from kohls with the tag still attached; on clearance for $11.20. the hospice price was $8. I chose a long sleeve light flannel and a very light zip up burnout hoodie by mudd. they cost $7 and $9, respectively, but after finding out that I would literally be paying $16 for both, I just got the flannel. These kinds of prices without any additional discounts add up very quickly, and I would guess that they are also the reason why there is a sign out back letting customers know that donations are currently being limited to 1 or 2 boxes, because their backstock of donations is completely full. I guess you could say "but it's going towards a great cause" which i understand and have personal experience with. But their merchandise is free to them, besides the labor required to get it out on the sales floor... And I'd be inclined to spend a lot more if I got more for my money. If you are looking for clothing, I would recommend trying the juvenile hall auxillary shop less than a mile away. It's small and the hours are limited but the selection of clothing is varied and the prices are much better. I won't be back to this hospice shop until either I can catch a sale, or they lower their prices. Which unfortunately will probably be never. Bummer. read more

I found out about this location thanks to the Hospice Thrift Shoppe Hop, otherwise, I wouldn't have known about it. It's a small thrift shop in Martinez that seemed quite busy when I went in. I browsed around and noticed that they had a lot of home goods, but not a lot of clothing. The sales associates were nice and were helping customers at the counter and in the dressing rooms. After looking around, I decided that I would come back another time when they have more items that might strike my interest. read more

By far my favorite of all the Hospice Thrift Shoppe locations in the area. Well managed and store improvements all the time. Staff is sooo friendly. Bright and clean, pleasant shopping experience. Great merchandise and prices better than most thrift stores...no musty smell. The store has a weekly Monday Senior Discount Day. Fun themed days like "Vintage Day", "Garden Day", "Pet Day", etc. I found a cute SAK fall handbag, books for pocket change, and two new baking racks for $1.00 each, my hubby found a pair of wood enclosed stereo speakers. All this for 25% off because today was "25% Off Everything Day". My big score was a new hand crafted eco-friendly sushi rice paddle for 38 cents! Stop by every chance I can. My husband and I love this thrift shop. Don't be deceived, it's actually bigger inside than the outside appears. We visit religiously--at least once a week--and in addition to great prices, they usually have a daily special eg 25% off garden items, 40% apparel and shoes. We also visit the other 4 Hospice Thrift shops pretty regularly, and in our experience, have found this Martinez location to be priced the lowest and to be cleanest and most organized. They have a great assortment of items, including beautiful furniture pieces (I scored a cognac leather couch in immaculate condition, priced for $75 but got for $60 because there was a sale going on); clothing, books, housewares, etc. The staff are wonderful once you get to know them. During holiday times, they gave my toddler Easter eggs and candies and are friendly to him. read more

Beautiful store with lovely things in it but EXPENSIVE! This is not the place to go if you're looking for a bargain. Prices are slightly less than retail..for donated items. The one exception is their prices on media (books, dvd's, etc.) Those are pretty inexpensive. I just moved to Martinez and I think I'll be shopping at the Juvenile Hall thrift shop from now on. read more

I cannot say greater things about the hospice thrift in Martinez. The store itself is very cute, well decorated and has tons of really nice new and gently used items. The profits benefit a wonderful cause. They also have volunteers from different organizations help with cleaning and organizing the store. We need more places like this in our community. A great addition to the south side of Martinez! On the smaller items like DVD's and CD's I have felt the prices were too low - way cheaper than Rasputins. When buying stuff there I have paid more than the asking price to help a good cause. Regarding the person who wanted to buy the dresser, if the lady went to the counter or a volunteer first and said "I want to buy that dresser" then it's first come first served. The volunteer could have said "excuse me, but this has already been purchased" to you, but they are volunteers - not highly trained employees of a big chain. read more

I was here on Saturday, November 9, 2013, and it was the sixth thrift store I'd been to that day! (yes, a total Marathon of a day!) I was starting to "drop" by then, but still managed to find ways to part with my money. ($12.93!). It was their one year anniversary weekend so everything in the store was half off. yay! But since it was number 6, I'm kind of forgetting which items I purchased at which thrift store,suffice it to say that just like the other Hospice of Bay Area stores, this one is clean, with friendly staff people and treasures to be found, and you can feel good about the money going to a worthy cause. I've actually had several family members who have been in need of hospice services and I can't say enough good things about them. I will indeed return. read more

They recently got their tax-free status so you're automatically going to save 9+% in addition to helping a really, really important charity. They're also having regular sales that can make up for the pricing. I've picked up some really nice pieces there over the last several months. I stopped in during my lunch break and spotted a nice antique dresser. While looking it over, opening drawers and checking the price, the saleslady came over with another customer, stepped in front of me, took off the tag and sold it to the woman. I told her I was interested in buying it but I guess I wasn't as obnoxious as the woman. Def won't go back. Also, prices are HIGH for a second hand store. Almost as much as retail. read more

I love coming here both to donate and shop! They have specials all the time on various items depending on the season or what they have in the store that week/month. I've purchased dish sets, DVDs,books,stationary,craft supplies, and a food processor from this shop. Never had a problem with any item. They also sell furniture at great prices but I haven't had the need for any yet. They also make donations really easy and always provide me with a receipt for tax purposes when I need one. The employees are consistently nice. On one occasion I asked someone to help me find a French press coffee maker and sure enough there was one on a table that I didn't see! The employees do treat people well and wrap items appropriately upon checkout. Everyone is nice and it's such an important worthy cause. I come here weekly and will continue to do so! read more

Well I'm surprised this place doesn't have better ratings. I found out about this place from my brother in law who lives in Martinez. He mentioned he liked to come here and browse after work because it was relaxing. I thought that was kind of weird but ok..Ill go since he said it was his favorite thrift store in town. I almost didn't come because the reviews weren't great but I'm glad I made the trip from Vacaville to check it out. As soon as I walked in my son and I totally understood what he meant by "it was relaxing" The atmosphere in there was great...the employees were super friendly it was clean and organized and the music in the background was soothing..lol..I think it made me browse a little longer..lol One of the items we picked up was a mens cardigan sweater for under 5.00 Yesterday I ALMOST spent 49.00 on a sweater just like it at Urban Outfitters. read more

Good shop near the highway 4 morello exit with easy parking. I've found that most of the housewares are overpriced, but the atmosphere and customer service are top notch. Easily-browsable layout, and the employees are friendly and helpful. For me, the books are the reason to go. If you're willing to browse a bit, you may find some good older editions, or just fun quirky reading. The great thing about used ware shops is that everyone has their own vision of 'treasure.' So go and hunt! Glad to have a solid thrift store in the neighborhood, and will be supporting it with donations. read more
