I will start off by saying that the employees that dropped off and picked up the food were very helpful and had a great personalities. With that being said, not sure if Lucas is the owner, but if he is, he should take lessons from his employees. I used their services and asked to have food delivered at 715am. I get a text from the driver at 615amPT telling me they were at our office. When confirming delivery, I told Lucas I needed the food set up by 745am, he told me he needed a minimum of 30min to set up, so even being here at 615amPT made no sense. When I spoke to him to understand the confusion, I was met with hostility, aggression, and complete unprofessionalism. He took no accountability or shared any responsibility of the misunderstanding. I worked with JW catering this past week for a special family birthday celebration. I dealt with Lucas, who was very helpful. We exchanged ideas on food, readjusted a bit on the menu and ended up with a delicious buffet dinner that the family enjoyed thoroughly. I had asked Lucas to make sure the person who served at our celebration was tested for Covid and, ironically, while we all tested negative, the server was positive. During the pandemic, the Casper Restaurant Group pivoted to a takeout deli, which is how I first learned about them. I patronized them regularly for years and was sad when they went back to regular catering. I've always thought that if I ever wanted an event catered, I would go to these people. This was for lunch for two people. Would definitely give the Corned Beef Ruben a 5/5, both myself and fiancé thought it was delicious! There was a good amount of corned beef in the sandwich. Located in one of the Cupertino City Center Towers, JW Catering serves many of the businesses that are in the area. I'll cut to the chase and say JW is one of the best catering services out there. The company I currently work at frequently provides meals, and it usually orders from JW Catering. The menu changes on a daily basis, so I get to try something new every time. As cliché as it may sound, this is one of the reasons I love my job so much. The JW crew are extremely efficient; it takes a lot to make enough food to feed around 70 people, yet the deliveries are almost always on time. This is especially impressive given that JW makes a large variety of food. It's almost as if they have a Star Trek-style replicator in their kitchen. Some of the food may occasionally be a bit overcooked, but this something that happens with just about every food-related business. However, it would be nice if the caterers could handle leftovers in a more environmentally conscious manner. From what I've seen, food that is not eaten or taken home by the end of the day is generally discarded. It pains me to see all that good food wasted, especially when there are lots of extra servings. At the very least, donating the leftovers to a homeless shelter or soup kitchen would have been a far better alternative. I do not know how much JW Catering charges on average, so I can't really comment on prices. But considering that we're probably one of their biggest customers, I'll assume the prices are at least reasonable. To be honest, I can't think of too many personal situations (aside from weddings and Great Gatsby-style parties) in which a catering service would be required. But if that ever turns out to be the case, JW Catering would be among my top choices. -- TL;DR version -- Highs: Everything is delicious; fast service Lows: Food is occasionally overcooked; leftovers are often wasted; the DJ service could be improved (see below) Bottom line: JW Catering is easily one of the best catering companies in the Bay Area. Final verdict: 4.6 stars (rounded up to five) -- Addendum -- Note: The following is a mini-review for JW Catering's in-house DJ service. Having a DJ is not part of the company's normal operations, so it will not figure into the main rating. As mentioned in the main review, the company I work at frequently orders from JW Catering. We just had our annual post-holiday party a few days ago, and it was JW that made such an awesome event possible. They provided lots of hors d'oeuvre and desserts, all of which were delicious. Our event had a dance floor, and JW Catering was also hired to play the music. Regrettably, the the DJ service didn't quite match the quality of their food. Don't get me wrong - the music was excellent, and everyone had an absolutely great time. But what brought down the score is that the DJ didn't really cater to the crowd and was only interested in playing modern hits. Case in point, I asked for some '80s songs as they are always quite popular, but the DJ didn't play any because they were "outdated." I also requested a few slow songs as many of the guests came as couples, but the DJ also outright refused to play them. He didn't really give a reason for not playing slow songs, only that he "didn't like" them. The same thing also happened last year. While event organizers may instruct DJs to avoid songs from "do not play" lists, it did not appear this was the case. I'm not qualified to tell the DJ how to do his job, but I feel he could definitely have communicated with the crowd better. To be honest, I found the lack of slow songs and older hits to be more than a little disappointing. I didn't have a date, but I'm sure those that did were thinking the same thing. JW Catering may not be a dedicated DJ service, but the dance could have been even better had the DJ given more thought to what we wanted. I hope this is something the company will take into considering the next time they DJ a similar event. -- TL;DR version -- Highs: Plays excellent music Lows: Does not "read the crowd" very well or take requests; only interested in recent hits Bottom line: JW Catering may provide some of the best food in the Bay Area, but their DJ service could use some improvements. The event was important as it was a "thank you" for donors that had contributed a large amount to the Annual Appeal of the school that I work for. Jeff, the owner was wonderful to work with and had helpful hints to keep costs down and get the most for my money. He had the rentals delivered to his facility first and brought them to the venue so I did not have to deal with the rental company at all. The day of the event went perfectly smooth! They were on time for set-up, and everything was ready well before the party started. The food was beyond delicious and the presentation was breathtaking. The staff and the bartenders were wonderful! I never noticed it until the Pandemic hit - from the name, I assumed it was a business you'd hire for a large event, and my parties are small and infrequent and I like to do my own cooking/BBQing, so I never had occasion to look any closer. Ever since COVID hit though, I can't stop going back. As an Ashkenazi Jew, I especially find the Great Matzah Experiment (one of their "sub-menus") to be a godsend (pun intended haha). Where else in South Bay can you get decent Jewish food? I mean of course there' Oren's, but that's much more on the Sephardic/Mediterranian side of things. Their matzah-ball soup is at least as good as my mother's, and that's saying something. Aside from the Matzah Experiment, they also have their own wood-smoker and their smoked ribs, pulled-pork etc. is amazing. I for one am very glad this place is here :) read more

I found the staff was professional and pleasant. Additionally, Lauren was a doll to work with and very responsive to my emails and requests. We used JW Catering for our team conference at Allied Gardens in Menlo Park. TJ was very nice and responsive to all my inquiries before the event. He offered to rent us linens for our 21 tables we were using for the event-- for $17 per linen. I ended up finding them cheaper online to purchase and he was ok with that. We agreed on a menu that included some substitutions for my vegetarian guests. Everything was great up until the day of the event. Breakfast was served at the right time (around 7:30am) and they knew we had a start time of 8am. When I arrived around 7:45am, I realized they didn't have the oatmeal out for my vegetarian guests. All they had was fruit to eat. I asked the servers about the oatmeal and they said they were still cooking it. By 8:20am, I just told them to forget it. The meeting had already started and my guests didn't want to eat during the meeting anymore. Our lunch break was from 12-1pm and lunch was supposed to be set up by 11:45am. They didn't open the buffet for lunch until 12:10pm which was pretty frustrating because my guests were starving and this was cutting into their lunch hour. I had to ask again about the vegetarian entrees and they didn't come out until 12:20pm. It seems like the vegetarian options weren't communicated to them and they had to scramble to make them. They ran out of salad and some other sides when half the guests had made their plates so we had to wait 10 min for those to refill. It didn't seem very organized at all. TJ came out of the back office towards the end of the day to apologize for the mistakes. I didn't even know he was on the premises until I had called to complain to him. He said he would give us a refund for the oatmeals and some other things but that took a few weeks and multiple follow up emails to get the refund. The mistakes weren't the end of the world and the food was great so I'd recommend them but just know that if you have time limits, they may not be the best. read more

Day 2 - I got an immediate response from Jennifer and spoke to her on the phone for 20 mins about possible options. She said she would send me a preliminary menu with pricing in 1 day. Day 3-5 - No response. Day 6 - I followed up with email and she apologized and said she would send me the menu right away. Day 7-9 - No response. Day 10 - I called her. She apologized again and said she would send it within 1 hour. Day 11-12 - No response. JW Catering catered a birthday party for me at Allied Arts Guild in Menlo Park. It was put on for me by my sons so I can not comment on the interaction they had with the owner, Jeff. However, he was present at the party and made sure that all went smoothly. The staff was friendly and efficient. The presentation of the food was lovely and above all the food was delicious. Jeff planned it around cuisine from the parts of the country that I love, New England and Hawaii. They served the best clam chowder that I have ever tasted. Everything was perfect and several of the guests have since commented to me on how nice the party was and how good the food tasted as well as the quantity available. I worked with TJ to cater a 25 person corporate meeting at the Allied Arts Guild in Menlo Park. He was helpful and responsive to all my questions and last minute requests. We chose the Executive Buffet for breakfast and the Taco Buffet for lunch, and both were great! The service at the site was very accommodating to all our needs, and everything was set up timely. Although the meals were set up inside our meeting room, they were not disruptive when they cleaned up or refreshed the beverages. I am very ambivalent about how many stars I should give JW catering. Everything started out well enough, with a good meeting and tasting. Lauren was extremely responsive, one of the reasons I went with this company. Alas, things went downhill when Lauren left the firm. First, it was probably a month before I found out she had left. When I did hear from the owner (Jeff) he had us set up a new tasting to make sure I was still happy with everything. ( At this point there had been a lot of discussion back and forth with Lauren on side dishes, sauces, etc.). At the tasting, I discovered that all of this discussion had gone out the window in favor of a "special" menu that the chef thought I would like better. It turned out that this was just items on the current spring menu of their cafe. The food was really good, but I felt frustrated that I had spent so much time and energy developing a menu that would never be used. I wish they had just given me those options to begin with so I would't have wasted my time. After the tasting, Jeff told me he would be in touch the following week with the revised menu, pricing, etc. 6 weeks went by and I heard nothing from him, despite multiple emails, phone calls, etc from both me and the on site person at our venue. The event was fast approaching and I was getting frantic. Finally, I contacted our venue person again and she got him to send me the menu, figures, etc. Apparently, he had been having trouble with his email and didn't realize I hadn't gotten what he sent. I understand having email problems but I felt like this was totally unacceptable. I will say, however, that the food on the day of the event was excellent, and staff on the day of the event were wonderful to work with. Basically, the food and staff on the day of the event were excellent, but the staff interactions prior to this were appalling. I suspect that once Jeff gets a new manager for the day to day interactions of planning an event, the company will be well worth using. read more
