This tasteful bed and breakfast was a delightful place to stay in downtown Grand Rapids! We ran a bit late so the owners called to check on us, which was appreciated. Once we arrived it was easy to call the listed number and get let in, which happened quickly despite our being after the agreed upon arrival time. Skylar then showed us around and left us to enjoy the room. She had their two children with them which was fun and gave the space more of the local family feel. We didn't hear them during the rest of our stay so no worries about late night cries etc. The house is beautiful and our room had a private bath with a huge jacuzzi tub. There was a window ac unit as well as a fan so we stayed comfy at night and even outside fireworks weren't too noticeable. We were a handy 10 minute walk to a multitude of restaurants and cute parks plus the river walk. There was also a parking spot at the house so we could leave the car and not worry as we walked in the city. The breakfast was especially tasty and Skylar made extra effort to accommodate our dietary needs by making something totally different for me (veggie hash with toast and yogurt all vegan). The fruit, juice and coffee for all were tastefully laid out and made for a refreshing breakfast experience. We thoroughly enjoyed our time and would stay here again! read more

Just returned from a wonderful stay at The Lafayette House in Grand Rapids. My daughter and I were in town to attend a concert at the Van Andel Arena. Did I mention it is WALKING DISTANCE to the Van Andel??!! Note the walk back is gradually uphill. A couple that we spoke with during breakfast mentioned they also walked back. The husband said he has a bad knee and felt it a little bit on the return but would definitely do it again. Todd and Skyelar's home is beautiful and bright. We stayed in Room 2 which is also bright yet cozy at the same time. Our room had a Keurig coffee maker which was great! I will just have to remember to bring some tea with us next time as we love our tea. I didn't think to ask for any so I can't fault anyone but myself! The bath products are provided and smell amazing! I actually wrote the name of the brand down as I am going to order some for home. We really appreciated having an extra power strip in the room. The bed was very comfortable. Breakfast was delicious with local products. Cinnamon raisin bread French toast, bacon that was perfectly prepared, fresh fruit, orange juice and hot coffee. We loved our stay at The Lafayette House. It is a beautiful home and very comfortable. We didn't meet Todd but Skylar was welcoming and made us feel right at home. It was nice enough to sit outside and a enjoy a beverage in the front yard. It is private with hedges and plants and just a nice place to sit and relax. We were in town for the Tim McGraw/Faith Hill concert at the Van Andel Arena and it was a nice walk to the concert. No worries about parking! We stayed in Room 4 and it was lovely. It was quiet and we slept great. Breakfast was delicious. We will definitely be back..we already have reservations for October when we are going to an Elton John concert. n read more

The best place to stay in GR! Great location that is walk-able to so much and a beautiful home. The best part is the owners. My husband and I decided to stay here for our weekend gateway to celebrate our anniversary - we will without a doubt be staying again! From beginning to end they were kind and welcoming making the getaway very relaxing! The rooms were comfortable and breakfast was FANTASTIC! :) this is now my favorite place to stay in GR. Glad I stayed here :) Skye was more than amazing! I came a couple of hours early due to my flight changing times and she welcomed me into her house. There was a person in the room I picked and once that person left around 11, Skye went out of her way by cleaning the room for me to occupy it next, even though I was suppose to occupy it at 3pm. She was really sweet and I felt at home at her house. Her breakfast is SO delicious and her recommendations for Grand Rapids are great! I REALLY LOVED THE COFFEE! I wish I knew what kind it was :( I would certainly stay here again! It is SO MUCH BETTER THAN A HOTEL! I picked room 4 due to someone reviewing that it is a bit more secluded and that the bathroom was nicer. I loved the bathroom! It was so modern and fancy! Advice: if you are coming from the GRR airport to here, take the bus. It was way cheaper than taxi. Taxi will be around 36$. Bus ride will be 1.75$ for both busses (ask for a transfer ticket). Google app helped a lot with figuring out busses. Take the 17 to woodland mall, from there take the 6 and it'll drop you off 1 minute walk away from the Lafayette House. :) Also, the Rapid public transportation made it so much easier for me to go places around Grand Rapids. Hopefully this helps someone. read more

On a recent visit to Grand Rapids from DC, we were lucky to stay at the Lafayette House. Parking was great (some B&B's we have stayed in have you park on street), and the proximity to downtown and easy access to the highway and Frederick Meijer Garden was convenient. Todd was able to recommend some fine restaurants in the area ; each night we had a great meal. The whole house is beautiful. Our room was spacious & clean, and we spent some time in the big room downstairs checking out all the cool stuff (nice encyclopedias). Breakfast was delicious and fresh. We had a great time at The Lafeyette House! We stayed in Room 2 and was a wonderful room. The room was huge with a 4 Poster bed and wooden shutters . The full body shower was amazing as well as there were heated floors in the bathroom. Bed was very comfortable and it was a very spacious roo.. 10 minute walk to Downtown Grand Rapids made it central for the things we wanted to do. Skyelar and Todd were wonderful, warm and inviting hosts and gave great suggestions on what to do downtown. Breakfast was great! We will definitely be staying there again! read more

We loved this bed and breakfast! We stayed in room 1, which was way larger and nicer than the pictures showed. The room was decorated really cute and was surprisingly quiet. I really enjoyed having plenty of big windows, which let in a ton of natural light and fresh air. The owner Skyler was extremely hospitable. Very close to downtown Grand Rapids. Our Uber ride to Atwater and Knickerbocker was only a $5 ride. Would definitely recommend to anyone. read more

My partner and I "took a gamble" on The Lafayette House as B&B newbies - and what a pleasant surprise - we hit the jackpot with this choice! Skyelar and Todd welcomed us with open arms and hearts, first with an opportunity for early check-in and giving some recommendations to make the most of our first few hours in Grand Rapids; and then, made to feel so comfortable and welcome during check-in. Todd welcomed us at the door and showed interest in not only making for a comfortable stay at the House, but also to make sure that we enjoyed our evening in Grand Rapids as much as our morning. While our welcome was warm, our hosts had the intuition to give us a no-hassle check-in that was unobtrusive to the point that we felt immediately comfortable relaxing for a few hours reading in the elegantly chic living room. Skyelar later casually, but warmly introduced herself and their daughter. The next morning at breakfast (which tasted as delicious as it smelled), Todd eloquently broke the ice among a rather diverse group of folks - leading to a pleasant conversation that engaged everyone on the spectrum from profoundly down-to-earth to stiffly intellectual. With their many genial behaviors, their exhibition of hospitality, and the deliberate care of this lovely home - The Hoorts intentionality toward full-service hospitality and the authentic creation of a sense of place give their guests a feeling of profound attachment and belonging. Our only regret is staying only one night at The Lafayette House - and we look forward to our next stay in October for ArtPrize - our lodging choice was easy! read more

The Lafayette House is my new favorite place to stay in Grand Rapids! I travel here often from Chicago for work and am so happy I stumbled upon this lovely BnB when my normal hotel was full. To begin, the house is beautiful! Every room is lovely and my bedroom was spacious and comfortable. I was in room 3 and there was even a jacuzzi tub to enjoy. Skye, the host, was kind and very easy to deal even when I arrived late at night. Breakfast was divine and there are even vintage arcade games in the sun room. We stayed two nights at the Lafayette House while spending a long weekend in Grand Rapids visiting friends and relaxing. The house looked great and was a real treat. Todd was a gracious host, laid back, and fun to talk with. The food was excellent each morning. I would love to go back and stay in the other room next time we are in Grand Rapids.
