We stayed in a 2 bedroom, 2 bath suite that was recently renovated very nicely. I found the updates to be very nice, the room was spacious. My only gripe about the room setup was that the bathrooms were both inside the bedrooms with no access from the living room. Hopefully all of the rooms have been or are being updated because our experience was very pleasant, compared to some of the other pictures and reviews I saw. There was free breakfast daily, which was your typical hotel continental breakfast fare. It's always a nice touch to have free breakfast when you're traveling, so that you can save a little money on meals. read more

The Room: The furniture in our room was ripped, scratched, stained, and/or falling apart. The carpet in the main room had a nasty tear in the middle of it. The refrigerator was dented and loud and the ice maker did not work. The first bedroom mirror had a huge crack in it. The curtains in the second bedroom had a huge tear across the bottom. The second bedroom toilet had a big chunk of the top missing. And it never stopped running. All. Night. I tried fixing the flapper. Then I tried shutting the door to block out the water noise, which helped, but the door did not fit the frame. It took massive effort to shut and reopen the door. It's like the transition board was added after the door was cut. Our traveling companion told us the door in her bathroom was the same. We set the thermostat to 67 but the AC vent in the first bedroom was either not working or blocked with so much dirt it wouldn't work (see photo of dirty moldy ceiling in front of vent), so we had to leave the door open and it was still really hot in the room. The worst offense of the room itself? The couch and chair in the living area were covered with skin flakes and hair from the previous guest. Utterly. Disgusting. We told the front desk and they sent someone to clean it, but I never wanted to even sit on the couch after that. The Hotel: Pool smelled bad and was musty and cold. The hot tub was not working and we were told they were waiting for parts. Apparently, they must have been waiting a very long time, at least months, by the moldy, dirty, horrifying state of the hot tub. See photos. There was no one at the desk when we wanted to buy wine and snacks and couldn't find anyone so we gave up. There were kids screaming and screaming and playing basketball outside my window at 11:30 pm and no one told them to stop. We had to yell at them ourselves. The entire property is dirty and run down. There are scrapes and scratches on the walls, stained and torn carpeting in the hallways, and cracked floors and bad odors in the elevators. Overall Thoughts: This may have been the dirtiest hotel stay I have ever had. I am absolutely appalled that Marriott would put their name on this awful property. Last week, I went to Orange County, California and stayed at a Residence Inn and the different was night and day. I was shocked. The only conclusion I can come to is that whomever is running that particular hotel in Holland gives zero care and attention to that property. It's ridiculous how bad it is. To add insult to injury, outside of NYC, I have never paid more for a hotel room than I did for that one in Holland. $338 with taxes and fees. I paid $165 with taxes and fees in Orange County last week. Last year, I stayed at regular (i.e., not Residence Inn) 4-star Marriotts in California and both of them (one in Costa Mesa, CA; one in Irvine, CA) cost a good $100 less than that. That's just insanity. (And in case you were wondering, yes, I requested a refund from Marriott - and got one.) I feel sorry for anyone staying there right now who is also discovering that it is nothing like it is as advertised. But for all future travelers who are deciding whether or not to stay here: please save yourself the regret and look elsewhere. read more

Overall all a very clean modem hotel. Well staffed and very helpful. Good variety on breakfast. Fitness room well appointed.

My wife and I took a mini road trip to Holland, MI with our two pups and this was the only pet friendly Marriott property in the area. Our stay has been excellent so far, with the GM Matt taking care of us with a platinum room upgrade. Our initial room had smelled of smoke, but he quickly switched us to the room next door. There are breakfast to-go bags, which contain breakfast sandwiches, yogurt, fruit, muffins, and cereal. There's also coffee in the lobby 24/7, our stay has been very comfortable so far. I've been Marriott platinum for 10 years now; staffing, accommodations, and cleanliness are why I will always choose these properties over all others. Best, Charlie read more

It was kind of pricey but the rooms were clean. Breakfast was a bit lacking, I assume that's due to the current pandemic. The hot tub was caution taped off and actively growing all sorts of mold. The pool was surrounded by peeling paint but was still functional. Guest laundry was also kind of expensive but not unaffordable. 3.00 total per small load to wash and dry. This hotel is a bit off the beaten path but I enjoyed that. There was plenty of room for me to take my dog on a nice walk so she could do her business. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. Extremely disappointed with our experience here. We had a two bedroom suite. We noticed a few spots of mold in the accessible bathroom, but the other bathroom was covered. Lots of black mold lined the top of the wallpaper, the top of the shower, and other specks on the wallpaper. Additionally, the mirror on one of the closets was cracked. Definitely a safety hazard with a young toddler. When the concerns were brought to the attention of the front desk, with the manager present, they were quickly dismissed with attitude, "Well just so you know, the entire location is undergoing a full renovation starting in January." A full renovation does not excuse black mold. No apology or remedy was offered. We will absolutely not be back. read more

If you need to a hotel near Holland Michigan, I'm enthusiastic to recommend The Residence Inn Holland to you! Conveniently located just a between 196 and 31, getting there was a breeze. Parking was ample and well lit. The front desk staff was helpful, check in was easy. They handed me an ice cold water and a small snack when I checked in. I really appreciated that level of customer service. The room was great, super clean and organized. I was in a suite and It's a HUGE room, filled with cool modern furniture and fixtures. The living room furniture was really new and absolutely comfortable to sit on. There was as great kitchen, not a kitchenette, but a really nice kitchen in the room. The kitchen has a dishwasher, stove, oven, and a full sized microwave and refrigerator. It was fully stocked with pots and pans and 6 place settings. The bed was comfortable. The hotel also has a great pool, small gym and a basketball court. While I didn't get out and shoot any hoops, I did use one of the treadmills on morning and it was a really nice and new machine. The gym also had extra towels in it, that's always handy. Residence Inn Holland is a great hotel, a quick uber from all the downtown spots. Next time I'm in town I will definitely be staying with them again. read more

Pros: The Staff & breakfast were both great. The rooms had couches and kitchens in them. Cons: The bathroom counter had hair on it. The pool area had caution tape surrounding it. The bed was uncomfortable and the walls were thin. We were awoken multiple times throughout the early morning 2am-6am with our neighbor angrily yelling obscenities at the male in the room with her. read more

There are conspicuous no-smoking signs throughout the hotel, but man oh man, it smells like smoke in the common areas. Maybe just emanating from the smokers who frequent the place? I don't know, but it was hard to breathe. The room was ok. The full size beds are what you'd expect, not the comfiest but not the worst. Like me, you may wake up with a stiff back. Thankfully, the bedrooms didn't smell like smoke. The bathroom was fine, with a very respectable shower head. The full size fridge was also a nice touch. The main draw for me was price (low), and proximity to the freeway. It's a 20 minute drive to the Holland beaches, 20 minutes to Saugatuck, and it's 30 minutes to Grand Rapids. The part of Holland where the hotel is located would not give Holland a positive reputation, but you are literally 2 minutes from the freeway. Residence Inn's are the yardsticks for suite hotels (other than the superior Staybridge Suites). The older Residence Inn models with Murphy beds are different, only 1 star establishments due to their fading age. The reason this hotel gets 2 stars instead of 4 is because of their price gouging. The place doesn't have location (in an empty field) amenities other than the general proximity to Lake Michigan. It's privately owned and follows it's own pricing rules. Like $159.00 for a one bedroom suite while the Residence Inn's in Grand Rapids to the west are offering $117.00 for a two-bedrrom suite. That ain't right!! read more

I love Marriott, and stay at them whenever possible. I came to this hotel via Priceline because who doesn't love a bargain? To get a 3 star Marriott hotel for a great price made me feel like a lotto winner. However, I was disappointed to have more of a 1-2 star experience. I came to town for a family celebration and brought my 89-yr old mom. When checking in I asked for a room that wouldn't require a lot of walking for her. I said 1st floor wasn't necessary, but please make it as close as possible. Despite MANY empty rooms the front desk clerk put us in room 323--the absolutely furthest room possible. I asked if she was sure there wasn't a closer room and she just said "no, housekeeping is very strict on which rooms I can let out." Housekeeping make the decisions?On the long walk to our room I noticed a LOT of trash in front of a room spreading into the hallway. As we headed out for the evening I mentioned the mess to the desk clerk. Her response? "Well, that's probably one of the extended stay customers. Usually housekeeping gets it the next day. I can get it cleaned up if it bothers you." I said, "I just thought you would want to know." Seriously? I'm shocked at that type of response from a 3 star. To be fair, the mess was cleaned up by the time we returned. When we returned we noticed a very unpleasant smell as we entered the hotel. When we went to the elevator the desk clerk was in the elevator kicking some dirt/leaves on the floor to the side until she saw us, at which time she bent down and picked the pieces up and apologized for the smell in the hotel that she said was the result of someone setting off a fire alarm on the 2nd floor--but she didn't need to worry; we couldn't smell anything since we were so far away! The room was nice and clean (except for the big stain on the couch). I really hope what we experienced was an anomaly. I wrote to the manager, but he didn't bother to respond. read more

We stayed here for two nights for the Tulip Festival, and we booked off Priceline for a much cheaper price. We would've camped at the state park, but the weather wasn't warm enough. It's not in a convenient location for the city, but it is right off the highway. The hotel was filled to capacity, as there wasn't an open parking spot. Our room resembled a quaint apartment and even had a full kitchen. I never stayed at a hotel where our room had a dishwasher, full fridge, and stove. The room was very clean, and housekeeping fully replaced our bedding and all towels after the first night. The front-counter staff was very helpful and friendly, although we didn't need them for anything but checking in. We had no problems during our stay. The complimentary breakfast included a wide variety of items and several workers to make sure everything was stocked and fresh. We used the pool area three times, and there was never a crowd in there, and it was very warm and clean. They have a small "market" area of various food items (including beer). read more

Off the beaten path, but a a nice stay overall at this place. Place was clean, and room tidy - I'd stay here again if I was coming to town. Breakfast was good with many items, including: oatmeal and bananas, two of my prime staples. Don't go to Arby's down the street at midnight like I did- you might get held up by a large tour bus full of hungry folks, and not get your food for 30+ minutes. I choose to starve but they have some mac n cheese and other stuff at the hotel bodega. read more

The room was glorious and big - perfectly reminiscent of the months I lived in one in Houston. It wasn't the most relaxing stay, just because of the amount of outside noise that gets through. Every click of any neighboring door, footsteps above and around you, children and dogs, etc. Also, I was disappointed they didn't have a DVD player. I guess if you're planning an extended stay, bring your own stuff. Their breakfast options were limited, and I wouldn't wish the disappointment my mouth experienced from trying the southern style biscuits on anyone. I know that sounds really negative, but I slept well, and the curtains (multiple windows!) kept most of the sun at bay. read more

I remember when Marriott meant a certain standard as in a nice place to stay so I had high expectations. First of all the Inn is located in the middle of an industrial complex in a field of weeds. Very odd. Second, it looks really old although it can't be given where it's at. The rooms were mostly clean although the tub could use bleach but the furnishings seemed cheap. We asked for a crib and they gave us a pack and play which was way too big for our baby. I wound up sleeping in the tiny (full size?) bed with her and my husband slept on the couch. Not impressed but did appreciate having a kitchen with the baby. Also the bed was comfy but the pillows horrible. The staff was super friendly and we liked that there was a small store you could buy beer, etc. Especially since there's nothing around but businesses and trailer parks. read more

We stayed at this hotel for a weekend and were very happy. The rooms were quaint and nicely stocked with all the basics. The staff was absolutely wonderful. Not only do they include a calendar of local events in your room, but the concierge checked out a few activities for us and called our room with information. They were also nice enough to print off directions for us. We were also pleasantly surprised by the breakfast offered. Lots of options and it was pretty yummy! All together, the staff was very attentive, friendly and helpful! read more
