JW Shaw electric was recommended on the Tesla website for a EV charger installation. I called one morning and JW himself came out later that afternoon to give me a quote. They were by far the least expensive of the other companies that quoted the job. JW is a great man and turns out a great electrician! It took about a week to get on the schedule because of them being swamped with work. Very professional and they did a great job. JW sent pictures of the completed work to the city inspector, which made his job a breeze. The DTE electrician was also pleasantly surprised to see that he would not have to terminate any wiring and all he had to do was plug in the meter. I can't recommend JW Shaw Electric enough. 5 stars and now I see why Tesla recommends them for charger installation. read more

J.W. - I apologize for never writing this review! My family had an awful year, so I am just now getting to this. 5+ stars for J.W Electric. -- We had a complicated case with installing our EV charger. This saint of a man explained everything to us before we hired him. He didn't try to rip us off, like others have. We didn't need to get DTE involved, which we did before we found him, and they were absolutely clueless and inept, and unresponsive. Luckily he used to do work for them, so he knew how to handle things, so we were able to let him take the reins. We hired him and he got to our job in a reasonable amount of time. We had an issue with the inspector (a real stickler), and J.W., who is a master electrician and basically one of the pioneers of installation around here, dealt with it that week. On the second visit it was all approved. I had an issue with the charger I purchased, a Tesla for non-Tesla vehicles (J-1772). He came back 3 more times to try to help me figure it out (it was not his fault at all), and enlisted the help of some top electrical engineers to figure out what was going on. He is such a gem that he brought his own electric vehicle here to test it to make sure the issue wasn't with my car. He even took me driving in my new car to show me some pointers! It turned out to be the Tesla charger, which I would not recommend! I can't thank J.W. enough for his kindness, patience and mini-lessons on electricity. Be sure to hire a master that knows what they are doing. Do NOT use a level 2 charger without installing it. I've seen so many people online who have had fires! It is necessary to hire someone to do this. J.W. is your guy! read more

JW guided me through the entire process, from advice on what charger items to purchase through Tesla, the actual installation, information and set up for Ann Arbor EV charger inspection and information on DTE energy programs and rebates. Super thorough! He and his team are the best in the field. They specialize in EV charger installation so are incredibly knowledgeable with anything related to the matter. The entire process was super easy and went smoothly. Plus incredibly friendly and professional. On a side note, it has been super convenient to have the home EV charger. Much nicer than having to drive out to a supercharger station on a regular basis. The convenience factor, DTE rebate program and energy saving programs offset any installation cost (which was good to begin with, especially with this high level of expertise and quality result). Had JW Shaw Electric install an EV charger in my garage and outlet on the outside of the house for a plug in charger. Literally took 13 appointments with JW, the city inspector and DTE to get the work done. JW repeatedly said DTE and the inspector did not know what they were doing, when he was in fact wrong and had to complete / repair his work. First time I went to plug a charger in to the outside outlet and the receptacle is not compatible with the charger. Called JW and he said there are many receptacles and chargers. Reminded him that I told him what charger would be plugged in to the outlet and he did not care. Said if I want the receptacle replaced it would be an additional charge. Thought I hired someone who knew what he was doing. Stay away from JW Shaw Electric - does not know what he is doing and he is a rude person. *** As you can see by JW's reply to my review - he is an arrogant and argumentative person. This showed in his interactions with the city inspector and DTE personnel which caused the failed inspections and multiple visits by DTE. Don't use JW Shaw Electric. JW does not know what he is doing and will make excuses for everything that does not go his way. Terrible! read more
