A year after giving them a 5-Star review for excellent service, I contacted JW for a complete tree trimming. I'm sorry to say it might be hit or miss here. Because he (or whoever answered his phone) has missed more than once. After our appointment time(s) were confirmed with no-show & no-call, days went by. I thought "Maybe he lost his phone or lost my contact info." [crickets chirping] [more crickets chirping with an occasional bird tweet] -- First no-show. Possible miscommunication. -- Second no-show. No excuse. So here I am, back on Yelp, looking for someone who not only does the job but shows up when they say they will. Or at least calls/texts to say I'm sorry I couldn't make our appointment(s). So I used JW for there services at my primary home. Jason came out and walked the property with me and thoroughly went over my needs. Based on the scope of work he was able to give me an instant estimate after he walked the property. We agreed on the price and Jason told me he would be calling me back with date of work. Within couple of days I heard and Jason and his team came out on scheduled time. Jason is very personable and so is his hard working crew. They got down to work right away and asked for my feedback as they were doing the job. The crew was very polite and within couple of hours they took care of the trees on my property. Wow. Great experience. I had one of those darn ornamental pear trees die and fall over in my front yard, breaking off half of the other ornamental pear. I only write yelp reviews when the service was either terrible or terrific - JW's team was obviously terrific. The time from my online request for a quote to the end of the entire project was less than 2 days! WOW! Jason and Daniel were friendly and knowledgeable. Their crew did excellent work and were very professional. Daniel kept us in the loop throughout the project, and made sure were were 100% satisfied before they finished. Our yard looks GREAT! So great, in fact, that my next-door neighbor hired the JW team as well. The crew went from working on my yard to my neighbor's yard without even a break. These guys did a phenomenal job trimming back some hackberries and ligustrum that had gone crazy in our backyard. Jason came out the same day that I called and gave me a reasonable quote, and the next morning Daniel and his crew were at the house with their trailer to haul away all of the branches. In just a few hours they were finished, and it looks great! We have a large veggie garden in the back, and they managed to remove branches all around it without disturbing a single garden bed. I called JW Tree and Land around late afternoon. My call was answered immediately by Jason and he offered to swing by my house after his current job. He made it before it got dark and did a walk through of the work I needed to get done in my yard. I like that he was able to find little things I would have overlooked like the small trees that were growing like weeds at the side of my house and a small tree that was growing in the center of a bush I never even saw before he pointed it out. I had gotten a cheaper quote from a competitor, but I decided to go with Jason because of his eye for detail. I enjoy that he has a legit form for his quotes and you get the breakdown of the estimate on paper for you to keep with all his info. He offered to give me a discount if I was able to go with him the next day because my job fit into his schedule. I didn't feel pressured, but I appreciated his ability to communicate and that both of us were able to feel like we were getting a good deal. He is easy to contact and very quick to respond no matter the time of day which shows me he's a hard worker and he takes his job seriously. His team came out to my house the morning of the following day and they were finished before 4pm. They did a wonderful job cleaning up and even cleaned the leaves out of our gutters which I really appreciated because we don't own a ladder and it's been stressing me. Overall something I've been putting off for a while was taken care of fairly painlessly and I appreciate the ease at which it was done. I feel like we were given a fair price and the team works very hard and professionally. Everyone was friendly which never hurts and our house looks much happier. I have nothing negative to say about JW T&L and I would recommend them to others. I've seen other reviews where people were irritated about missed meetings, but I work from home so it wasn't an issue for me. I contacted them regarding poison ivy and other ivy plants we had in some beds at a new build. Quickly responded and we was very friendly. We talked on the phone and he said he would be by the next day to look. Never showed up and went downhill from there. He then gave me quick responses that the pictures i sent wasn't poison ivy even though I said in my messages that i was trying to figure out what the other ivy was and sent photos of that. I contacted JW Tree & Land Service after my previous tree service failed to return my calls. I filled out the form on JW's website and although it took Jason a couple of days to contact me, he was able to meet me at my home that same afternoon. We walked around my yard and I showed him what I wanted done to each tree. He took meticulous notes and even offered to clear out some poison ivy and haul off the bamboo I had cut down the weekend before. We agreed on a price and he told me his crew could be there the next day. The next morning his crew showed up bright and early and got to work. They had the 4 trees in the backyard trimmed in no time and cleaned up as they worked. The trees in the front were a lot taller and they took their time roping the limbs and lowering them down so they wouldn't fall on or near my house. Jason was wonderful to work with. I had tried on multiple occasions to get into contact with another company and they never returned my emails or calls. After calling and leaving a voicemail, Jason called the next day apologizing for the late response due to having locked his phone in his car. We set up a date and time for him to come by the house and take a look. He was running late the day of our appt and was courteous enough to call ahead and let me know. He walked around our house and gave us suggestions and advice as to which trees/plants were bad and needed to be removed and what we could do to help maintain the rest of our trees. He was very professional and just a delight to work with. His pricing was very reasonable for trimming 6 trees (all different types and sizes) and removing 4 trees/plants that were getting in the way. After the initial appt, we set up another day for his team to come and do the actual work. I work as a night RN so I sleep during the day. They were awesome and I didn't even hear them. They cleaned up everything and I now I can't stop looking at our trees and thinking how good they look. If you aren't going to be home when they come to do the work, you can always leave the check under the front door mat and Jason will come by and pick it up. Jason, the co-owner with another guy that works with the crew, answered my call and set a time to come by and give me a bid that day. He is very knowledgeable and personable, and he gave me a very reasonable bid. The crew showed up first thing the next morning and got to work It was clear they had been well trained and knew what they were doing. I was SO impressed with how careful and thorough they were! They tied off every limb. And everyone was very polite and respectful. They did a beautiful job of cleaning up afterwards, leaving my yard, deck, driveway and beds tidier than they found them. As far as timeliness, responsiveness, and customer service- these guys are great. Jason came out the same day to quote the work, when I couldn't get other companies to come in the same week - or give a concrete answer on when work would be completed. We had large downed limbs and other limbs threatening the house, and needed all of our way-overgrown hedges brought down several feet. JW actually had the guys come after I accepted the bid, the SAME DAY, and finish most of the work- they completed the next day. This was after a big storm, so they were really busy but fit us in anyway. They're pricey, though, and you have to be willing to pay the higher price for work you need done immediately. They noticed a split tree while they were working on the property and added that to the bid, I'm very grateful that they took the time to look around and look for future problems. All in all- you often get what you pay for. I'm very happy I used them this time- Jason even went by after the work was completed and paid for to get "after" pics for me. I am not a huge fan of spending money on a dead tree. It is like paying a dentist to remove a rotten tooth, just a lot of a pain and cost. As such, I put this off longer than I should have and ended up with a tree in a very sad state. After calling around I found JW Tree Service and they were able to come out to bid the job the next day. Their estimate was very reasonable and I was even more impressed when they said they could have their team do the work that afternoon. The work was done as promised and even better, they left a neat stack of firewood at my request. A neighbor hired this company and since I needed to have trees trimmed anyway, I hired them too. In the 15 years I've owned my home, I always hired larger, more well advertised companies to shape, fertilize and trim the trees. After speaking with Jason and getting a bid price, I decided to give them a try. He said he could get his crew to my house that same day, which he did, but they ran out of daylight and had to return the following day to finish my job. The crew arrived the next day, on time, and worked for several hours trimming the 8 large oak trees in my backyard. They climbed all over those trees, often where I couldn't see them but saw their safety lines hanging from near the top of the 50 plus foot oaks! My bid was for 9 large Live Oak trees and one Cherry Laurel tree about 2 feet above the roof line of my one story home. First, the bid price was extremely good and when the job was finished I felt like I got MORE than my money's worth. Second, the crew did a FANTASTIC job; better than all my previous companies! Third, they cleaned up all the limbs and cuttings so well that my yard and patio looked BETTER than it did before they arrived! They even carried all my potted plants to the patio because they were under the trees that were to be trimmed. They put them all back in place after the job was complete. I spoke with Jason about cutting up and removing a large tree branch that had fallen after a storm. This branch was very large, but from a pear tree so we're not talking a redwood or something. He went out to look at it and quoted me $400 to cut it up and haul it away. Really?! I called a another tree service (also from Yelp) and they quoted me $150. That's a pretty big gap. Then after I canceled my appointment with JW without mentioning the reason, they immediately offered to lower their price by $100. They sterilized saws and trimmers before work began and sprayed cuts on the oak trees as they worked. They also used safety ropes and belts and they cleaned up the yard as they worked. All of which gave me peace of mind. They did a superior job overall. It will be a while before I need trimming again because they actually did the job right. I called and spoke to owner about having 3 trees cleaned up and a few shrubs taken out. I was original told they could do the job a few days later and would be there the next day to offer a quote, but no one showed up. I called back a few times and left a message and he finally called me back the next day. The owner did apologize and came out the following day. The original quote for having 3 medium sized trees and a few shrubs pulled was $550, minus a $100 discount for finding on YElP? It was about $200 more than another company I spoke to so I had to renegotiate price. I was told they would be there the next morning but again, NO SHOW! I was pissed. When the guys came out to do the job, it took all of 45 minutes and ended up costing me $350. Trees look real nice but extremely overpriced for a job taking less than an hour in my opinion. read more
