I called 10 clinics for my immigration medical clearance. I was supposed to cancel my appointment because they don't have great reviews on yelp but when I called the other clinic with great reviews OMG they were rude,won't take questions on phone, not knowledgeable for the process and validity of test results. She is a nurse herself and it was her first time speaking to the office. The receptionist answered first, she was very kind as my partner explained why she was calling. Their interaction was very pleasant. Then out of nowhere without notice, Dr. Sarma got on the phone and said, "This is Dr. Sarma. You are a nurse? Where do you work right now?". First inappropriate comment. She proceeded to go off on my partner, being extremely condescending and unnecessarily disrespectful and making comments like, "You are a nurse, you should know better. Help your mom. She calls us every other day to ask if she has cancer". This is a lie, and it was also completely rude, insensitive, and unprofessional for her to even make a comment like this. She even had the arrogant audacity to bring up during this conversation, "I'm busy with patients right now and this is taking up time," all while she continued to persistently go on. Why would you keep going on after making a comment like this and then continue to cut off a concerned family member every time they tried to speak? She proceeded, "So you think she has cancer? What do you want me to do?" in an extremely rude and disrespectful manner. My partner was entirely speechless. This reaction from Dr. Sarma was so out of left field and unexpected, not to mention extremely condescending and uncalled for. It was a completely one sided conversation as my partner could not even get 1 word in. When she tried to speak, Dr. Sarma repeatedly, many times, cut her off even when she tried to say, "Excuse me, I'm trying to say something". She repeatedly kept talking over her while my partner was trying to respond. Again, this is the first time my partner has ever called the office, and it was just coming from the perspective of a concerned daughter trying to help and be there for her mom who has been struggling to speak & advocate for herself. Coming from the perspective of working in healthcare, we would never, ever, ever even imagine to speak to a patient or a family member ever in this way. It's completely unacceptable and NOT okay at all the way Dr. Sarma treated her. It really showed her true colors. I think that was the saddest part of this situation. My partner called back after taking a moment to collect her thoughts and realize how disrespectful and unprofessional that was. We were just shocked because the first conversation with the receptionist was going so pleasant before the doctor got on the phone. The staff receptionist herself even agreed that it was not okay the way Dr. Sarma spoke. She kept apologizing on behalf of the doctor, which shows you just how profoundly unkind and unprofessional this doctor acted, if the office staff who witnessed the incident was profusely apologizing for the interaction. My partner's mother was an established patient of Dr. Sarma's for years. When you are a patient and you're sick, it is devastating as is. I went to her for my immigration medical examination since she is the nearest civil surgeon. I was charged around $400 and she gave an unnecessary tetanus shot even though I got the vaccine couple of years back. I got a medical RFE from the immigration because her staff screwed up my paper work by not filling up the vaccine information. My GC got delayed for more than a year because of the mistake, so better avoid her. read more

I created a yelp account just to give the feedback to this doctor. I wish I had checked yelp before going to her facility. Here is my story: I wanted a form to be filled and attested by this doctor for which she was charging a hefty fees ($185) and I was okay to pay this to her for the services. When I got to the facility the nurse gave me couple of shots without my full consent and the Dr. spent 3 minutes to check my heart beats. It was pretty odd for me because Dr. seemed so disconnected as if this checkup is just for name sake. Anyway, I came out to the reception area and they gave me a big list of charges which were not discussed with me at all. I tried to discuss this with the receptionist ( Melisa) but she was so was rude and unprofessional. Later I checked with some other doctors and they told me those shots were not at all necessary for the paperwork, which she gave me just to rip some money from me. I went there for my USCIS I-693 medical requirements last July 28, 2016. I got the final document on Sep. 15, 2016. Almost two months. What a waste of time. If you want to know what happened, continue reading: 1. My last medical got expired but my TB and other vaccines is still within the range of 3 years. Still Dr. Jyothi Sarma let me take another of those TB vaccines and another one. I guess it was pure business for them. 2. USCIS returned my documents because starting Aug. 1, 2016, a Gonorrhea test is required. So I went back to them. This could have been avoided if they read their notices from USCIS about the updates on the requirements. They make the patients as guinea pigs for the updates. I was the guinea pig and during my case they were able to update themselves of the new requirement. Imagine at my own time and expense. 3. I submitted my urine sample last Aug. 31, 2016. Good thing, I enrolled in QuestLab to get the results a week after they have submitted them to the doctor. I did received an email from QuestLab today, Sep. 15, 2016. I called them and I was able to get the documents. After looking at the documents while at work, I noticed that the documents were ready as early as Sep. 6, 2016. They said they called twice and even left a message. I did not receive any call or message. Who would you believe? 8 days delay again. If there is a zero or negative number for this review, I will give it to them. read more

I went into Dr. Sarma's office to give her "another chance." Aside from her bland personality, I would like to make note of her lack of professionalism in her office. The way she talks down to her staff made me embarrassed for them. Additionally, I had two important reasons for seeing Dr. Sarma, one of which she took care of and the other she disregarded. When we walked out into the room before the main lobby (where you can find other patients as well as the office staff) I inquired about my other issue, which I find to be personal, and she said clearly in front of every one the tests that need to be done for this issue. Had she had the courtesy to tell me that my appointment was over back in the room, I would have asked her my questions in an appropriate place. Moreso, I would have appreciated the "private" conversation occurring there, but rather, she abruptly asked me to follow her out to this space where I felt rushed to bring up my question in a very awkward situation. I was never formally dismissed, as she disappeared into another room. The kind receptionist informed me that she was done when I asked if she was. I still had questions about these important tests that were to be run on me!! I tried waiting another 5 minutes for her to come out, as she was informed I still had a question, before I left. 45 minutes were already wasted in the waiting room before my appointment, I wanted out. Well, Ladies and Gentlemen, I was right in my first posting. The antibiotic that didn't work the first time didn't work the second time either. So I call to get a different antibiotic and I am told I need to come in and they need to do a second culture. WHAT? You can't just call in a new presciption? "No." So the next day I was going to go to take care of the second culture and I was involved in an accident that prevented me from being able to go in. Today, I call the pharmacy to refill a totally different prescription and was asked if I wanted to pick up the new antibiotics too. I called Dr. Sarma 6 days ago!!! No one ever told me there was a prescription called in. I could have been getting better all this time. And ask me if I have ever gotten my blood test results from 3 1/2 weeks ago? No, of course not. My husband and I have been going to Dr. Sarma for years now and we are both very fond of her. She is caring, and competent. If she doesn't know something she let's you know that tests are necessary or that she has to do a referral because it is not her area of expertise. She has called me after hospitalizations and she has been very caring about everything that happens to us. I am surprised that she remembers our names with all of the patients she has. I don't understand why Yelp would publish an angry, ex-employees' review (with terrible spelling and grammar). Sad. read more

Terrible. I'm not one to make an opinion based on one bad day as everyone has them every once in a while, but after so many bad days and so many mess-ups, my opinion is that she and her office scores a well-deserved zero. 1) Front office lost an appointment, left off Vitamin D test from blood draw paperwork then tried to say it was on there, billed my previous insurance twice even though I'd double-checked they had the new information at each appointment, then finally billed a new third appointment to the new carrier but with some other number so it was rejected. When I had a sinus infection, the receptionist said she'd call Dr. Sarma that afternoon and have the Rx phoned in to my pharmacy: wasn't called in. The next morning, I called and the receptionist said she'd have Dr. Sarma call as soon as she came in: no call. A few hours later, I called and she asked if she could call me right back: sure, but no call. A few hours later, she replied that the doctor had already left but had left the Rx. After 22 hours, I finally had the "quick, no problem" Rx. 2) The lady who draws blood really is lovely, but on the first trip didn't draw enough blood for the (now correctly marked) Vitamin D test so I had to return for a second blood draw. The second time, she drew enough blood but messed up the test, so she called me and said to just go down to Quest and that she had sent the paperwork down. Called Quest a week later when I could come down, but they hadn't received any paperwork. Had to call Dr. Sarma's office and ask for it to be sent. 3) When I first went to Dr. Sarma, I had numerous items to talk about. My major items: fatigue, memory issues, getting sick often, and being hungry and eating a lot but was too thin. I'm 39 but felt twenty years older. She briefly talked about each item with me, which is good, though it was not thorough nor did it seem to be integrated with the other pieces she was gathering, but then said, *BEFORE the blood work came back*, that I could go ahead and get pregnant and that I looked very healthy to her and she didn't think I had anything to worry about. What?!? No one who knows me would say I'm super healthy (though I try to be,) and with the list of issues I just presented her, this sounded like terrible advice! I asked, "Don't you think I should see an OB/GYN first and wait for the blood work? Aren't there some additional tests I need to do?" Her reply: Oh, you probably should. (Probably?!?! Even if I wasn't exhausted all the time, I'm 39!) Got my blood test results back: I have a very low thyroid level, to the point that if I *had* become pregnant, like she advised, the child would have a high chance of being born with mental retardation! All my symptoms fit with a thyroid condition, plus on my medical form I listed that both my sister and grandmother use thyroid replacement medications. (Probably didn't think of it as I was so stinkin' tired from having low thyroid levels!) What's more, blood work test results come standard with information about the thyroid levels necessary during each trimester of pregnancy. When I called to ask when I should come take the other more specific thyroid tests needed, I was told that only the first one was necessary, which I know is only a screening test. Now, I see an endocrynologist so that I have proper, and at the very least *basic,* care. In short, if one does not know how to practice medicine correctly, then one is not a medical practitioner. read more

I was a patient of Dr. Sarma's back in 2003. I ended up in her office with an awful, indescribable stomach pain. It was so bad, I couldn't stand up or sit down without screaming in pain. I told her I had no idea what could be causing the pain, and she asked if there's a possibility I could be pregnant, since she thought it was an ectopic pregnancy. I didn't think I could be, and I told her this. I was a 26 year old, living with my long-term boyfriend (now my husband), and we were being 'careful'. She actually asked me if I was married, I said no-- and her response was, 'Well, then-- let's just hope for your sake, you're not pregnant'. Umm, excuse me?! Since when is my marital status any of her business?! I don't appreciated being JUDGED by some doctor! Anyway, I ended up in the emergency room, and it turned out to be ovarian cysts that had ruptured. Another instance with Dr. Sarma was when I went in for my 'female exam'. I asked if she was going to do an STD test, and she rudely told me NO, because I'm over the age of 25, and STD tests aren't needed for people my age. (?!?!) WHAT?! Not that I'm promiscuous-- I'm just EXPECTING my doctor to test me for everything, or at least to explain what she's not testing me for, and why. Anyway, I switched to another doctor after having the cyst incident. I get enough crap from my mother for how I live my life-- I don't need some doctor doing it, too. read more

My newborn son's pediatrician recommended that my husband and I get TDap shots to protect our son from whooping cough. My husband called Dr. S office to make an appt to get the shot and went in yesterday only to have Dr. S try and give him a testosterone shot. When he explained he need a TDap shot, she said that she didn't know why he needed it, even after explaining why. They didn't have the shot. So, to make a long story short, I called today to change my husband's GP to Kushal Chhabra in San Ramon. She is intelligent and capable-something that Dr. Sarma is not. I'm even questioning whether or not Dr. Sarma has medical credentials, since she seems totally inept. read more

Dr Sarma is registered with USCIS for I-693, called her Clinic, a mile away from my home, friendly response, got an early appointment, followed by reminder call on phone, me and my wife visited a few minutes before the appointment time on the day with our prefilled Form I-693, downloaded from USCIS web site, duly filled in and carried the completed form and turned them in, filled in a Clinic's form to give some basic details, after some preparatory work by friendly Nurses the Doctor met with us, one by one, made some enquiries, seemingly casual but to ascertain family health back ground and health background, explained the need to have some shots and tests, some within some at a diagnostic center within the building, as required by USCIS, paid for, shots, diagnostic tests done in quick succession, advised to go back to collect I-693, 4 days later, got email notification on the day we were to collet the medical report, were handed over with a complete copy with diagnostic reports for our reference and the original I-693 duly signed in sealed envelopes. Overall found Dr Sarma and her set up to provide Medical Report, I-693 very professional and note worthy. read more

I had my appt with this doctor right after an accident and during my check up she seemed very uninterested in what I had to say. I was trying to show and explained where I was having pain and tried asking questions but I felt rushed and was just given a prescription and was sent off. She does not seem to legitimately care about her patients not sure why she's in this field. read more

My parents have gone to Dr. Sarma for awhile now. My mom has had several bad reactions to medicine she has prescribed. Yesterday she ended up in the hospital after taking a blood pressure medicine Dr. Sarma prescribed. She also seems very fond of trying to sell botox or other cosmetic procedures to her patients. I am very happy to have Dr. Sarma as my primary care doctor (she has been my doctor for the past 10 years). I feel that I can go to her with any problem. If I ever need to see a specialist, she makes sure I have the recommendation to see my specialist of choice. There have also been a few times that I've had the "emergency" appointment - for prescription refill, sudden illness, etc. - and she and her staff make sure to fit her patients in the schedule. She is patient and never makes me feel rushed. I feel very comfortable with her and she is always respectful of my time and medical issues. She has a great bedside manner and always asks about my family and life in general. I honestly feel that she knows me. She is kind, caring and competent. I will continue to use her service as long as she is in practice and would not hesitate to recommend her to others. read more

i have been seeing Dr. Sarma for almost 10 years now. In fact, my whole family sees her. Honestly, none of us have been very happy with her. She always seems to be in a hurry and very rude to her staff. She can be judgmental even when its none of her business. Today was the final straw for me. I have been really sick for the past week and a half and I can't see her because I am working in LA. I wanted a phone consult and specifically left a message for her to call me back when her practice opened at 8am. I was told I would receive a call back by late afternoon. I never received a call. I called her office around 4:30pm only to be told that she wouldn't talk to me because I haven't seen her in 6 months. I described all my symptoms to her nurse who told me to do things and take meds that haven't been helping. I really just needed Dr. Sarma to hear me out and get me a prescription. But, she wouldn't even get on the phone after me telling her nurse that none of the stuff she is recommending has been helping. All in all, she wasted my day and my time. How does she call herself a doctor when she can't tend to her patients or even have the courtesy to return a phonecall? I get that she is busy, but then have the nurse call me to tell me that I will not be receiving a phone call from Dr. Sarma and I would have to try again. Such a useless doctor. I'm a 25 year old female and went there because it's very close to my work. I had bad abdominal pain and she just told me it was stress and acid in my stomach. I called my aunt that was a RN and she couldn't believe that 1) she didn't do blood/urine work 2) she didn't test for pregnancy and 3) didn't test for ulcer/ gall stones. I finally went back on my own and requested these tests. I went to get my blood drawn on the 1st floor and even the ladies working there had nothing nice to say about Dr.Sarma. After waiting 2 WEEKS for my results (I tried calling every single day the last week and the front desk said the results are on her desk waiting for her to review them) Turns out I had an ulcer and she prescribed me meds after. Then I go to pick them up at my local CVS and she prescribed me meds that were $300 WITH a good insurance plan that didn't have any generic option. Never going back there again. I do not recommend going to Dr. Sarma. Her answer for everything is pills. Although a patient needs to take some responsibility in this respect, Dr. Sarma has continued to allow a family member of mine to refill a pain killer prescription for years, without following up to make sure that the prescription was still needed. This has contributed to a very serious dependency on the pain killers, and now we are dealing with it as a family. Also, since the discovery of the dependency, a phone call was placed by the patient to her office (with me present and listening to the conversation on speaker phone) - to request that a note be made on the patients file to not refill this particular prescription - NO follow up by Dr. Sarma was received, an no concern was expressed by the staff member when the call was placed. Very disappointing that a medical professional would not follow up on something like this! There are many other qualified doctors out there who would be better suited for overall medical care. read more
