A few weeks prior me and my hubby travelled to Ottawa for a mini getaway and we decided to check out Koena Scandinavian Spa in Gatineau They are located in Gatineau at the Chateau Cartier hotel We did not book any services and just decided to go with daytime getaway which gives you access to the saunas and pools Inside you already get a very warm and relaxing atmosphere just from the entrance You can rent a robe but I brought mine from home to use Change rooms are clean and up-kept You get a wrist bracelet that accesses your assigned locker number to store your personal belongings inside Immediately entering the indoor area and it looked so nice They have a warm pool and a cold plunge pool inside We tried the steam room inside called Mahalo The steam is infused with essential oils The steam is pretty thick and it can be hard to see when you enter The lounge in the outdoor area is nicely set up Tons of chairs and loungers to relax on Plenty of outdoor pools to chose from They have a little sauna that we tried and had a nice little chat with a couple around our age that were from Gatineau My hubby tried the cold plunge pools His expression was priceless but he said once you do the hot/cold/relax circuit a couple of times, your body gets used to it We tried a sauna ritual that they had We only lasted two songs of the 12 minute ritual The heat inside is pretty taxing We didn't get a chance to try the Himalayan salt room that they had that was indoors Overall the experience was amazing and I really surprised of the price point as it was cheaper for two people compared to a local spa in the GTA that has a similar setup I would definitely come back here again when we visit Ottawa-Gatineau again read more

We went this past Friday to Koena Spa located in Gatineau as part of our weekend getaway there It's not far from Ottawa Roughly a 20 minute drive from the hotel we stayed at The spa is part of the Chateau Cartier Hotel Resort We went for the early morning that day as Fridays usually are busy during that time The spa offers services like massages, facials, and pedicures You can just opt to do the pool experiences for the day without needing a reservation for one of the above-mentioned services We went with the day experience The price was relatively cheaper than a place like Thermea per person which I found was really good I opted to rent a robe while my wife brought her own robe from home which saved us a few dollars The common areas are all kept clean along with the change rooms There are places to where you can get food and drinks from three different restaurants and bars Food and drink are on the pricier side so expect to pay a bit for that The pools experience are the same like Thermea's with where you go with hot/cold/rest cycles They have several warm pools at different temperatures There is a steam room called Mahalo where it blasts essential oils through the steam There is a Himalayan salt room inside There is a small outdoor sauna you can go into We tried one of the sauna rituals where it blasts extreme heat and the person who runs it waves the hot air into you We only were able to last two songs ....lol Overall the quality is top notch Staff are super friendly here and they communicate in both languages We will definitely come back again for another spa experience here read more

Over the course of three days, we took full advantage of the four Hot Baths, three Dry Saunas, two Steam Saunas, and a variety of Relaxation Rooms. With temperatures plummeting to -20°C, we skipped the Cold Plunge! The red lighting for Valentine's created a beautifully romantic atmosphere for the evening We highly recommend the Chateau Cartier/Koena Spa package. You can simply wake up, slip into your robe, and take the elevator straight to the spa! There are plenty of Robe Racks near each pool, but since all the robes are white, it's easy for someone to accidentally grab yours! This happened to us, but luckily we didn't have anything valuable in the pockets. We suggest bringing a ribbon or scrunchie to distinguish your robe from the rest. We enjoyed a delicious breakfast at Ono and a quick lunch at the Bistro. Plus, the other hotel restaurants are conveniently accessible from the spa, so you might find yourself dining next to someone in a robe We also recommend you attend one on Aufgass (Sauna Rituals)... especially if you can stand the heat !! Horrible experience! the receptionist booked the wrong date when I booked in person. They called 15 mins after i didn't show, when we rescheduled I was told I wouldn't be charged. Later on I found out that my rescheduled appointment was cancelled and my credit card was charged without my knowledge. read more

What was awesome about this spa: new and clean equipment. The facilities are spacious and really beautiful. lots of different options to try in terms of sauna, baths, salt experience and relaxing atmosphere. That being said, every time I have been here there are loud parties and people aren't respectful of the quiet spaces. The staff doesn't take it upon themselves to address it. Both times i went it was this way. And my robe was ripped. That being said it doesn't take away from the overall experience, just something to consider if you are looking for a quiet spa. read more

I actually Love this spa and come nearly once a week. It's where I come to relax and center myself. There are signs posted for each area...some say "Murmure," and others say "Silence," and most people observe and respect the spa signs, but today I found a few people to be speaking at full.voice in every area and it detracted from my solitude and interrupted my day of self care. read more

Horrible experience. I booked a massage on my birthday and requested a RMT as it stated on their website they are done by RMT. I noticed during my message the person didn't seem to know what she was doing but I didn't say anything. At the end of my massage I asked for my RMT receipt which I was provided. I paid and left the spa and also noticed how rude the staff was ignoring clients at the desk for long periods and needing to be cued to come and serve them. I went to upload my receipt for my work to receive my funds back and when I looked under the asssiged RMTs at this spa the one who completed my massage was not on the list at all. I called the spa numerous times over the following days and the phone is never answered and messages are not returned. I had to select a random option and finally reached someone who advised me my issue would be communicated to the manager of massage therapy. And of course it's been days no contact. This spa employs people to perform massages that are not actually registered and provides fake receipts then ignores attempts yo contact them. DO NOT GO TO THIS SPA they are fraudulent 1 read more

i got a massage by a young man. he was ok. however... i handed him my intake form and went to the washroom which would give him time to review. i arrived moments later as he was on his phone and had not looked at my form and wasted my time asking me the questions I answered. this is my issue with getting massage on Quebec side because they require much less training & standard then in Ottawa and I still paid $150 for a 60 min treatment. i would rate his treatment as as 6/10 which is not bad. he had potential. They told me at front desk that he's really good along with the other person that was available later. So it sorta watered down the belief that they are that good. Not sure what he was doing part way on the treatment. Checking his phone maybe. i know he drank his beverage and got oil But it took strangely long to do this things. I really wanted to look. Why didn't i? What would one do if we see. I don't like to embarrass people. I did give him some feedback when he was digging in to me In a sensitive area. I could tell he was short on time cause my second leg received much less attention the the first And he did not Make it to my neck and head Before time was up. I also noticed that he was sitting a lot working on me. Sometimes that's ok because the Vector of force is better positioned but in this case it made him have to muscle the work rather then sink in using gravity. And it's less pleasant for me because the pressure was lesser then my body was calling for and leas smooth because there was more effort. Do you know how badly I wanted To tell him. Lol i realize that it's a spa.. and I expect my standards to be lesser which is unfortunate. I beleive that he could improve his integrity and that there should be rules as there are in Ontario about cell phones in treatment rooms. It's not permissive. I say this but I did enjoy it when I didn't think about the money I was spending. As for thé spa itself. I really enjoyed myself. there are many spaces to enjoy. i even did some yoga on a turf space. Day time was quiet. I went once before on a winter evening which I loved. Evenings are more intimate and inwards. But warm summer day time is nice also. I'm a stickler for customer service. I love seeing every human as my family and doing my best to treat them as such. read more

This is a good spa, we like coming here once or twice a month. The place is clean, well maintained, the location is very good, reasonably priced. One time we experienced them doing the 'aufgus ritual' which was pretty cool, I like their saunas too. Just a couple of things I wish they would fix - the water pressure in showers in ladys' change rooms is really poor; getting one or two extra towels would be also nice; having more silent zones (in the pools) would be great though some people are just being nasty making TikToks or Instagram stories for no reason. I remember they used to serve delicious soups and sandwiches in the bar, sad they don't have it anymore. Overall, nice place to relax and detox read more

Beautiful spa. Be sure to give yourself plenty of time to check out all of the amenities. We spent most of our time in the outdoor baths but we also loved the steam bath and the relaxing Himalayan salt room inside. Highly recommend making a whole day & night of it and staying at the hotel! Will absolutely be back! read more
