I had an outpatient procedure here where they put me under…read more Upon waking the nurse shoved a glass of ice water in my face and told me to hurry up and drink it, then urinate and get out because she had other patients that needed the room. I was just waking up and in shock. I looked around while still groggy and she got even more angry at me that I hadn't started drinking the ice water and started shouting that I was being charged for half a day already and that if I didn't hurry up and get out, the hospital would charge me for a full day. I asked how long since I had been out of the procedure and she informed me that I had been out of the operating room for 30 minutes and 45 minutes is the maximum they allow for outpatients to use the room. 45 minutes and charging patients for a half day and a full day if you don't immediately wake up and run out the door and say thank you. It's sad that hospitals are allowed to charge people like this and the UPMC business ethics sure shine through their employees with how they treat customers. I mean.. imaging being charged $60,000 to be treated like a piece of dirt and then shouted at, and told afterwards that if you don't hurry up and gtfo, you'll be charged even more. I imagine if you were an insurance auditor and really started running numbers to calculate how many outpatient surgeries were done in a day versus how many half day charges for a bed were being sent to them. If I were an insurance company, I'd be sending all of my auditors to UPMC Bedford and asking to look through their books. If I were a lawyer, I'd be looking back on how long they've been doing this and at how many other locations, this practice is happening. I imagine that a really good lawyer could make their retirement happen early on what he or she finds.

However, I am very happy to say that ALL of the Doctors, Nurses, and Secretaries who I met that day at UPMC were extremely friendly, helpful, and professional. It was very obvious that they were working very hard to make me feel at ease and their professional attitude made me feel confident that I was getting the best possible care, and I was! The procedure was done flawlessly and fortunately with good results for me. I of course do not look forward to having this procedure done again in the future but at least I know that I will be in good hands when it is done again by the knowledgeable, professional and caring Staff at UPMC Bedford Memorial. I love dealing with Dr. Erlichman because she is a confident Ophthalmologist and it shows in her work that she is knowledgeable and very experienced. I had my cataracts removed this year by her and I am still very happy with the results. I have intraocular lenses put in after she took all the cataracts away! For the first time in 20 years, I can see at a distance! I enjoyed my latest vacation because I can actually see what my husband points out for me. Everyone at their office is certainly respectful and professional. The place is always full of people. You can get checked out by the Ophthalmologist or optometrist and select your frames from the same office. And the Hospital is across the street for the surgery! It is so convenient!

If you are ever in the Bedford Springs area (staying at the Omni or just visiting), I highly recommend stopping here for acupuncture. Elisa is trained in all three of these techniques, as well as in Chinese medicine. Tui Na is a resonating massage style that seemed to totally 'wake up' every muscle in my back. It felt fantastic. I was worried about cupping therapy, because I had never had it before, but I can not recommend it enough. Rather than pushing down on muscles, cupping involves glass globes that create a vacuum and pull up on the muscles in your back. After these two, the acupuncture itself was well done. They accept some insurance, which is awesome for a chiropractor. They accept credit cards, and accept payments for future services. When you go back to see the chiropractor, it's a short visit. Answer some questions and talk about yourself for a bit, then get in the table and within 5 minutes, you're headed out the door to carry on with your day. Great place, very convenient.
