I believe this is the first time I have ever given a five star review on any business in the 20+ years I have lived in Simi Valley, CA How often would you expect a car dealer to drive and give you an opinion on a vehicle you were not purchasing from them? This is exactly what Jose and Monte did, when I stopped in to say hello and check on an application I had previously filled out for one of their vehicles. Jose wanted to make sure it was a safe and solid vehicle and a decent price. They treated me with respect, integrity, and honesty, which has not happened at the other lots in Simi Valley. -- No pressure to purchase, period. On a side note: While I was there, an elderly gentleman ... a Vietnam Vet, came in to ask if they had any more american flags he could purchase from them for his vehicle like those he had seen around the lot as his own flags were old and tattered. I have to admit, I'd rather see the dentist and have a nice root canal before I'd like to walk on to a used car lot. However, I was very pleasantly surprised when I met Monte Bennett, one of the sales guys at this little neighborhood dealership. Monte was calm and professional and very honest. I was gruff, skeptical and probably not enjoying one of my better days. However, Monte was very professional, very helpful and really knew what he was talking about. I was only there to help an acquaintance sell one vehicle and purchase another, but after observing their process, I felt she got a fair trade for her vehicle and rolled off the lot that day with something that suited her much better. When the time comes for me to get another car, and I want to feel as if I'm getting a fair deal, I would definitely consider going to these guys first. read more

I had a two-page review that I wrote, and then I remembered that if you're reading this, you probably need a car and some answers right away. So should you buy a car from K&J? Should you trust them? I'm going to say yes, with one proviso: be honest. Here's my story. After 2 months of pouring through Craigslist, Autotrader, private sellers, and verifying everything through Carfax and pricing guides like Edmunds.com and KBB, I was mentally over the edge. I needed a car, and I was at the end of my rope as far as shopping around for deals. I broke down and made a bad choice; I bought a 2002 Toyota Celica from K&J because I liked one of their ads and because... well... it was a car I had always wanted to own. This was my first experience with them, and it didn't go so well. I went there and treated it like every other dealership I'd visited, and walked out after signing the papers feeling like I'd made a huge mistake. I went back and returned the car. Tail tucked firmly between my legs, I literally laid out the results of my soul-searching: my exact budget, (to the dollar) what I was looking for and what I was willing to live with or without. I told them about my last car, and revealed that more than anything, I just wanted a car like my old Corolla... something I owned completely, bow to stern, that was reliable and I could keep for as long as she'd run. This is really where the real review starts. K&J didn't have anything to fit my needs but told me they'd call if they found anything. Two days later they called and let me know they found a 2002 Toyota Corolla, and we're willing to sell it to me at the private seller price, (*plus tax, title etc.). Their customer service really started to shine as they shared their barbecue lunch with me as we all looked over the car. I can't tell you how different the second experience was better over the first. To really go the extra mile(s) they even dropped her off to my mechanic for him to inspect, and let me pick up the car at their workshop in Van Nuys so I didn't have to drive all the way out to Simi Valley again. That's a LOT of extra work on a car that they were only selling for $3,500, and I was deeply appreciative. The car didn't have the interior refurbished and I needed to have my mechanic do a little bit of work on her already, but overall I was thrilled because they LISTENED to what my needs where and did their best to deliver. You can't ask for more than that. Now, why didn't I give them a perfect score? Well, take this with a grain of salt. These are USED cars, ladies and gentlemen. The last star dropped is due to the cars: even after the celica was cleaned up by their team she had a small oil leak in the front and some really badly squeaking brakes. The Corolla needed a new plug and a lot of interior work. Me? I'm pretty ok with that. It's 4 wheels and glass at the price I needed... but for you, reading this, do your due diligence before buying. If you do, you'll be a lot happier. But... if you're willing to be honest and upfront about what you need, they will do the same, and you will be shocked at the response you get. They'll treat you like family, and for a short time you'll forget you're buying a car. And that is definitely worth 4 stars. read more

Easily one of the best car buying experiences ever. I showed up at K & J to locate a car for my stepson who was about to get his drivers license. I wanted a car that he could drive to school and to a part time job, but nothing extravagant. Something that would inspire him in a few years to want to buy his own car himself. I shared this with the folks at K & J and they pointed me to a car that I decided wouldn't work. Thinking I had struck out, we talked a bit more and they walked me over to the perfect car. After test driving the car, I decided this was it, but wanted to run it by my wife first. I told them I would need to leave and come back. They were great about it. Literally, no pressure at all! They shook my hand and off I went to discuss it with my wife. I returned later indicating I wanted to buy it and they dropped a sold sign on it and waited a full business day for me to get my payment in order. They were incredibly accommodating. Despite being used, the car was clean as a whistle. It was evident they had done some detailing work because it was more than spotless, it was practically shiny! When my wife and I gave the car to my stepson, he was overjoyed. Thanks K & J! The K & J staff is incredible, attentive to your needs and hugely accommodating. The selection of cars appears to cover a wide range of budgets. I really couldn't have asked for anything more. In a few years when our other son is at the same point, we fully intend to return. With any luck, I'll run into Monte and Walter again who were both stellar! read more

I recently found myself in need of a new vehicle and decided to look at K&J. After browsing their website (which was so helpful with details on inventory) I decide to go into the dealership. After meeting both Walter and Monte I purchased a vehicle with complete ease. Both gentlemen are completely transparent with no hidden costs or fees at the end of the deal. In fact the price I thought I was going to be paying wound up to be far less than I anticipated. I attribute this K&J going out of their way to find me the best financing possible for my individual needs. As a single mother, it can be quite frustrating trying to negotiate pricing and terms with the "car salesman" and one could easily feel overwhelmed. However, Walter made me feel more like family. The truck was immaculate and they got me approved almost immediately . After a day or so of driving the truck I noticed a slight problem . I called them right away and without hesitation they had me bring my truck in and volunteered to fix it . I'm very skeptical when buying from car salesmen but these guys were on top of their game . We were looking for a new used truck with low miles. After going to the Nissan and Jeep dealers on First St.,which had nothing we spotted a very clean 2013 Nissan Frontier with only 30k. I was extremely disappointed in the service and attitude of this dealer. I went on the lot, and was promised that he would call me within a week regarding cars I was interested in for my daughter. He never called. When I called Kelly after the week, he promised again, and again never called back. When I called one final time, and asked about the car, he was very short and rude. Clearly this guy has a bad attitude and doesn't want to sell cars. I could have been a good customer and referred many friends whose kids need cars, so he's losing a lot of potential business with his poor attitude and poor customer service skills! The sales people here are very nice. However, they are ripping you off for what you are getting. I admit that I did not know what I was doing buying a car from these guys. But they pretended not to know the difference between a car with power seats and locks and a car without those. Do not trust them. Do your homework and talk them down at least $1,000 from what they're asking. read more

I needed to call find a car within seven days after my accident since my car got paid out after I got rear ended so I looked online and found a 2010 Chevy HHR with 86,000 miles on it here at your dealership. I called and talked to Walter and decided to go test drive the vehicle. Vehicle drove very nicely put money down on it and told him I would be back in a couple days. Came back a few days later we discussed the car with Monty and Walter about the price of the vehicle I paid cash for it I had them print out all the paperwork and we were on our way. I realized after we got home that they had charge me for two years of tags for the vehicle. The vehicle should've been paid for 2014 from the dealership, and I should've only paid for 2015 but they stuck me with those amounts which total $354.00. I called and spoke to the owner in Oxnard and he gave me the big ration of crap and said he would not give me my money back. So I have turned in all paperwork to the DMV about this because it is bad that they did not pay the tags before they put car on the lot for sale. Also I have not had the car not one year and I've already had to replace both front tires because the alignment was off, and I had to replace the front brakes. Also when I bought the vehicle they had copied from another site things that the vehicle had which the vehicle did not have like OnStar it did not have Sirrus radio it did not have keyless entry and it was falsely stated on the window of the vehicle and also online. I would not recommend this place to buy a used vehicle poorly ran by the owner and do not tell the truth. Finally got rid of this car after spending 7,000 in repair in 2 1/2 years.bought brand new Subaru. Going to take them to court. read more

I will NEVER come here again!. My mom and I both bought cars from here and BOTH had problems only a month after taking each car home. When we tried to call Jose and explain the problems, not only did he NOT return our phone calls, but they never solved any issues that we had with our cars. My car has starting problems, and Jose has consistently said it was due to battery problems, even after buying a brand new battery from them!. I feel taken advantage of, and I will never trust the people working at K&J auto exchange again. read more
