My meal totaled about $25 which I thought was fair for a large dinner and a side of Mac and cheese. The portions were hearty which was a plus! The ribs were really good, mildly spicy with a smoked flavor! Came with four full bones. Sauce on the side was good as well, I'd definitely order again. 8.5/10 for ribs I was NOT a fan of the rice and peas, they were different than what I'm used to and seriously lacked flavor, not authentic at all. 5/10 because the texture was at least good. Cabbage was fine, nothing to write home about. It wasn't mushy or anything but slightly overcooked and also lacked flavor. 5/10 The Mac and cheese tasted better than it looked in my opinion lol I was expecting a solid, possibly baked mac and cheese but theirs is extremely soupy and heavily seasoned (garlic taste is strong). I received a great sized for $6.25 so no complaint there. I'd rate the Mac 7/10. I was excited to visit K&S Jerk Shop after a colleague raved about how they have the best jerk chicken hands down. I must say that the staff was friendly and the place seems to get a steady stream of orders. This isn't really a spot to dine in, although they do have two tables should you prefer to do so. I ordered the large jerk chicken meal. They do not have white meat as an option. The jerk chicken meal comes with plantain, rice and peas, and cabbage. The cabbage was way overcooked and mushy. The plaintain was perfect as was the rice and peas. The rice was exceptionally well seasoned and delicious. However, at the end of the day, the jerk chicken is what I came for and which the weight of my ranking goes towards. I'll start with the positive, the chicken was hot and fresh and the meat was ready to fall right off the bone! Unfortunately, this was not good jerk chicken. As another reviewer commented, it's grilled chicken with a jerk sauce on the side. As I've said in previous reviews, a true jerk chicken does not rely on all of its flavor to come from a sauce. The sauces they include are also delicious with hot being my favorite, though you dont need any sauce. The meat is good alone, all I was missing was soft coco bread. Not a big fan of this place maybe it's for everybody else, but for me it's not that of a great which is disappointing seeing that there is not many Caribbean spots in this area. I'm a Jamaican born and raised and for me, I like to eat Jamaican food if I'm going to purchase it somewhere that is made authentically. So this is a takeout restaurant of course however, I went there to get some chicken soup once and it was not the chicken soup I expected. I'm going to preference to say that and my experience with the chicken soup was not even recognizable as chicken soup in my opinion. Because of this it was a turn off. OMG! This is by far the best Jerk I have ever had in my life. This is saying a lot. I've had Jerk in at least 10 major cities across the US and in Jamaica at a Sandals resort. First I must say I'm very happy! I love great food. The jerk pork was very tender and it wasn't dried out. It was seasoned just right. The curry chicken tender. Lawd Jesus!! This was perfect! The ribs were well seasoned and had a wonderful smokey/chargrilled flavor that so many places can't seem to get. The grilled flavor is what makes it authentic jerk! Lastly I was hoping to get a side of Callao but when I inquired they did something smart...they didn't say "sorry we don't have any" rather they said "we have ackee and salt fish". As a transplant from Los Angeles, one of the places besides in-n-out that I miss is Pollo A La Brasa. This jerk shop fills that craving and then some. It's like Pollo A La Brasa and Jamaica had a baby and this is it all grown up. There is nothing fancy about this place, just your neighborhood hole in the wall run by the family. You won't find a replica anywhere else in a 50mile radius and yes they have a secret sauce. The jerk chicken and jerk pork is smoked with hard wood and gives a nice bark and lovely smoke ring. Which tastes exactly like Pollo A La Brasa in Los Angeles! But the real star is the spicy jerk sauce (you have to ask for it to be made spicy)! That knocks your socks off, the spicy, tangy, subtly sweet jerk sauce mixed with the smoky woody flavor of the chicken and pork... mind is blown every time. The food was good, however, the jerk chicken seemed pre-made and not freshly cooked barely warm, shriveled. The rice was hot and fresh and so was the cabbage. So, I thought 'why not give these a try!' ~ THE FOOD I don't make the following statement lightly: These were the BEST DANG PORK RIBS I've ever eaten in my life!!!
