My wife and I visited Spice House a little while back because I've been in the mood for some good fish. The highlight for me was the grilled snapper with their Creole sauce. It was incredibly flavorful, tender, and easily one of the best fish dishes I've had in a long time. If I return, that's exactly what I'm ordering again. We started with the empanadas, which were tasty, but at around fourteen to fifteen dollars for two, I didn't feel they were worth the price. The tostones were very good--large, flat, and well prepared. I do wish they offered cheese with them, but they paired nicely with the fish and other meats. I ordered the chef's board because I wanted to try a variety. It came with roasted curry chicken, jerk chicken, lamb chops, and snapper. The jerk chicken had excellent flavor and was very saucy, so it can get a little messy if you prefer not to use your hands. The lamb chops were fine, but again, the star of the night was the snapper. The restaurant itself is beautiful. The interior is elegant, from the tables to the plates to the glassware. It would make a great spot for a date night, and there is also a bar area inside. Service was attentive during our visit, and the atmosphere was very pleasant. Parking is plentiful since the location is in a large lot. Overall, I'm glad we tried it. If you enjoy fish, especially grilled or fried snapper, this is a great place to visit. It was the standout of the entire meal. read more

A sizeable group of us ended up here at the last minute on Sunday. Thankfully, they were able to accommodate us immediately! "Easy", the host with the golden voice, and Taylor the bartender, took great care of us and made us feel at home! We arrived at the cut-off of brunch but were still able to enjoy a few of the offerings like the Rasta Pasta, LJ's Shrimp & Grits, and Port Au Prince Snapper. Beautiful Oasis! Simplicity at its finest, we entered the establishment on a Friday evening before the crowd arrived and we were NOT disappointed! Louis greeted us with smiles, we were seated and waited on right away. The rum punch was great, definitely a must try, as a vegetarian I was quite impressed with the menu. I order the Veggie Delight and it was all about the FLAVOR! No complaints on the Turkey wings either and the cabbage was amazing. Customer service was okay, but the food selection was extremely disappointing--especially since we were there to celebrate my daughter's birthday. When you go to a Caribbean restaurant, you expect certain staple dishes to be available, and many of them were not. We were told the limited menu was due to a party the night before. Unfortunately, that explanation doesn't help when you've planned a special occasion and arrive expecting a full dining experience. The lack of availability should have been communicated in advance. I love visting a Spice House, so we went to Duluth and the aesthetics were there. Out server Easy was a pleasure. He made sure our food came out on time and was such a nice gentleman. The ambiance was nice. The bartender did her thang, and the drink tastes great. The food was extremely expensive. I ordered oxtail which cost over $40.00 + dollars. I was prepared for a nice portion of a meal. But didn't get it. The oxtail did not appear to be oxtail. Had more bones than meat, the bones did not even appear to be oxtail bones. The meat from the oxtail did not taste anything like oxtail, more like shredded tough roast beef. Had to speak to the management /owner of the disappointment of the child size meal they attempted to serve me a to go plate. I guess they were hoping I would not look at my meal until I got home. Found this place by chance and glad I did. The food is West Indian sourcing from Haitian and Jamaican culture, packing a balanced and flavorful experience. The restaurant has plenty of seating with decent space between tables. Our group tried the: Jerk Lamb Chops, Oxtail Empanadas and Hennessy Tangy Wings all appetizers arrived hot and quickly. Entrees ordered included: Montego Bay Jerk Chicken with Rice and Peas, Creole Turkey Wings with Black Rice (Jean Jean) and Oxtail with Rice and Peas. All entrees were solid hits, delivering flavor in ample portions. The market price for Red Snapper ($47) was very extremely high and borderline insulting. Rating this restaurant a 4 versus a 5 because the drink and dessert selection was underwhelming. Drink menu had interesting sounding offerings, but execution was weak and hard spirit selection very limited. Offering only 2 types of Rum in a West Indian restaurant with neither rum being from the Caribbean, a let down. Would suggest, Appleton Estate and Clairin/Bancourt dump the Captain Morgan and Little Wayne rum. Desserts skew heavily towards cheesecake if you like that sort of thing. I wish I could give 0 stars. This place ruined a very important day for us. My brother's 40th birthday was supposed to be held here on the 12th of July. We had the reservation at least 2 months in advance, multiple people flew in from other states and outside the US, and all showed up at 7pm to a CLOSED restaurant. No one let us know in advance that it was closed. No one was answering up to a week in advance when we called. It's just bad business and extremely unprofessional. To have 14 people (kids to older) show up to nothing, with no notice, is terrible. I won't find out if the food is worth it because there's absolutely no way I would ever come back here based on this alone. read more

The Spice House doesn't disappoint. The food is absolutely scrumptious. We ordered the empanadas, chef's board (lamb, red snapper, curry and jerk chicken along with sides.) Had my first visit to Spice House-Duluth. I'm always looking for great Carribean food and this is it! I had the turkey wings and black rice-delicious. Others in my party were very pleased with their choices as well. Out of 10 of us, there were absolutely no complaints, which is us usual. I'm having the oxtails next time. Our waitress was highly efficient, friendly and helpful in answering our questions about items on the menu. I would have given a 5 star rating but the only drawback is that the music is so loud it's hard to have a conversation. Other than that, I'm glad I found this one. read more
