I love the food real authentic 10/10 highly recommend. I eat there at least once a week

I can confidently add La Difference to my list of go to Haitian restaurants. The fact that it is also a bakery led to the five star rating. The food quality and quantity also are contributing factors. The artwork throughout including history pieces on the origin of the Haitian flag, and a prominent display of leadership which included my great, great, great, grandfather brought joy to my heart! I thoroughly enjoyed my meal which consisted of kabrit (goat), Djon Djon rice, green plantain and salad. I did request extra pikliz and gravy, as the gravy doubles as my salad dressing due to the rich flavor. The ample portions allowed for two additional meals, which were equally delicious as the seasoning marinated additionally. Everything was fresh. The rolls I purchased were soft to the touch and I was assured that they were baked that day after inquiring. They reminded me of my father, also of Haitian descent, and the bakery in South Florida near parent's retirement community. My dad would take me there and we would get fresh Haitian bread and rolls. Truly, one of the best nostalgic moments with the reminder of him and the delicious food. The location provided ample parking, and was not crowded when I first arrived. I placed my order after looking at all the offerings, including jams and other Haitian baked goods. Although I was assured that my food would be ready in about 15 minutes, it was closer to 30. Several people came in after me picking up large orders. My order taker acknowledged that my food would be ready soon, and I appreciated that. Thankfully, I was not in a rush. Do keep that in mind when visiting, and ordering in advance may be an option. I will definitely return to try my other favorites, including griot (despite limiting pork intake...smh) and legume. Maaaaaaaaan. What can i say!!! I've had this place before years ago and it tasted waaaay better this time. I got the chicken, white rice & beans (it's mostly just the soup) lunch plate for $32 including drink but it's sooooo worth it. If you ain't sweating inside a Caribbean spot, it ain't authentic lmao. I absolutely LOVE pikliz, $1 extra for 2 more but shit, i stuffed my face right then & there. This ain't a plate you take home, gotta eat it FRESH! Definitely 1 of my go-to spots. read more

The goat, which I usually don't order from restaurants, was aromatic and tasty, not gamy like most other venues. The portions were plentiful to last two days. The service was better than expected. The staff was friendly and courteous. The price was reasonable for the generous amount of food received. My only objection, like many Caribbean restaurants, many items listed on the menu were unavailable. I understand the complexity and the time laboring process that goes into cooking Haitian cuisine, making it challenging to offer some items that may not sell daily. Love love love!! The food is always consistent and fresh. Coming from Miami, it was hard to find a really good authentic Haitian restaurant and I'm so glad I did. They make the food by order so my food is always hot and ready. When I was pregnant I went there every week to get the fried fish and diri djondjon. Sometimes they do take a while, but what do you expect? How long does it take you to cook rice and fish or turkey. Have some patience for some good Haitian food! I received a notification pop up on my iPhone from Yelp for this restaurant early this week, read several reviews and everyone kept talking about their fried goat (which I never heard of. Since this place had 4 stars I was excited to go there this weekend to try to fried goat and some other dishes. I called several times to make sure they were open because their hours of operation online said 9:30a - 11p and I kept getting no answer so I drove up their and as I was afraid of they weren't even open for business. The doors were locked and the place looked somewhat abandoned. The most recent review for them said 2 months ago so that's why I figured I'd press my luck and make that drive even though nobody was answering the phone after several calls before driving there! I've been SEARCHING for an authentic Haitian food spot and I couldn't be happier to have found this place. The food is made fresh to order, so patience is a must. (We ordered when we arrive and the wait for a bit over 30 minutes. Almost 45) Even with calling ahead you still would wait but more like 5-15 minutes, since it looks family owned and operated, it's a small spot with bold flavors. Not a long wait on a Sunday afternoon, even though it's a little packed out... but honestly this place feels home-y so the wait goes by rather quickly. It feels like visiting someone's grandma where you immediately feel welcomed, and "at-home."... and the smell outside the door will trigger your tastebuds to want to try everyone at once. The owner is a condescending liar and has a bully of a man who comes from the back to bully, yell at and get in the face of customers to try to intimidate you. I arrived before they were ready for service so I wasn't able to try the cuisine but my hunger pangs determined I could start with a Haitian staple drink called Akasan (AK-100). Most wouldn't find the place appealing since it's in the far corner of a gas station lot and you would pretty much miss it from the street unless you knew where it was or were getting gas. Nonetheless, I saw the Haitian flag and got curious. As I walk in the place felt as a mixture of walking into somebody's kitchen and a run down hole in the wall. I've always considered hole in the walls to be good indicators of good food though. Two gentleman were in a corner talking and both looked at me like I was lost. One politely asked if I had called in before coming. I said no and he went to the back were a woman came out. She seemed like she didn't want to be bothered my me and stood at the counter on her cell while speaking in what I presume was creole. Their menu is very limited but when I would ask for something she kept saying they were out. I ended up with the pork. Food wise, the food was super delicious! The pork was more fat than meat but their sauces and rice were so so good. I didn't enjoy the vibe of the place but the food is something I'd pick up again. Food is ok. The rice and beans is trash. The employees there are mean as hell besides the elderly woman. The man is mean as hell and the other employees to. EXPECT TO WAIT AT MINIMUM 2hours for two or three entrees. They won't apologize. They won't give you an update on the time Frame of your food. They barely do anything right. I ordered a veggie plate and THEY GAVE ME PORK or BEEF in the food. I specifically said NO MEAT and he DIDNT listen to me. Then got mad at me when I asked him to clarify if he asked if I wanted rice. I was excited to try their patties because I found another Haitian bakery but the patties weren't ready when we got there (12:30pm). it's nice that's they're made fresh. We ended up ordering food to go plus akasan. Everything is amazingly delicious and the portions are generous. The owners were also very sweet and accommodating. They have the worse customer service. I ordered over the phone and they told me 45minutes. I came in 50min and there was line of people waiting for their food. Finally after waiting additional 30min I found out they never took down my order. They re-took my order. Something told me to check my food before pulling off. They gave me the wrong food. When I tried taking the owner was refusing to take it back. I proceeded to tell him that I waited for an one hour and half. I told them they need to take it back. So they finally took it back. Secondly, I'd like to thank Him that it's far enough from us (we're in Decatur) that we won't go there on the daily.
