And with that, I cannot say enough good things about how the folks at Driscoll Boat Works helped get me out and back in as efficiently as possible. The yard did a great job, and when I mentioned some bonding issues I was having with my boat, Stephen took it upon himself to do the research to determine a bonding wire had never been connected to the center tilt hydraulic cylinders. We got that remedied, and they also fixed an intermittent trim tab actuator issue. I always prep my boat for the yard, and I would suggest that you cover surfaces where workers need to go to do work. With the right preparation, my boat comes back fine. I also always give my total plan to the yard team in advance, so they know all the players coming in, and can better coordinate. This way, I can be in and out of the yard efficiently. I really like how I get quick text updates that the engine team arrived or finished, the electrical guys are working, here's the launch plan, etc. Like anything in life, you get out of it what you put into it. Boats require several teams to come in and out and not be in each other's way, so if you let the Driscoll team know the bigger plan, they help make it all happen. Big thanks to Team Driscoll for getting us back in the water and off to Catalina!

I had my 50' Bertram Sportfisher in with Driscoll for the haul-out this year. The work included…read morenew bottom paint, removal and replacement of rudder logs and rudders, fiberglass repair, install of new underwater lights, new batteries, new strainers, new raw water pumps, paint touch up, waxing etc. Some of the work was performed by Driscoll employees and some by yard approved subcontractors. The boat was in their possession for two months. They were short on space so at one point they put the boat back in the water and tied it up to their dock for two weeks. Then re-hauled it and blocked it again. Communication there it non-existent. Multiple calls and emails went unanswered as to the progress of the work. My project manager was Keith Dodson, working under Steve Driscoll. When they did finish there was never a chance to review the work. I simply received a call that the boat was in the water and need to be picked up. Upon arrival the boat was extremely dirty with rags and debris throughout the cockpit and salon. No effort was made to clean-up. The headliner in the VIP stateroom was laying on the floor. I was missing dock lines and fenders. The bow rail had been hit by something and was bent to the point that the aluminum cracked (this was a $6500 repair on my dime). The rudders were inoperable (there was no fluid in the system, it was full of air). I was told the inop rudders was due to a leaking steering cylinder and that they could replace this. I refused the replacement, there was no leak prior. I instead had had them fill the system and pressurize it. No surprise, the cylinder did not leak. The issue was they had removed the hydraulic hoses as part of the rudder replacement and did not refill and charge the system. Keith tried covering this by blaming the cylinder and attempting to sell and install an unnecessary replacement. All responsibility for the damaged bow railing was denied. It was not bent when the boat was dropped off, it was bent on return. Keith said it was impossible to determine what happened but they were certainly not responsible. Emails to Driscoll ownership regarding the railing went unanswered. Keith Dodson told me to contact my insurance company. I am not someone that cuts corners and was a good paying customer. My haul-out this year was over $140,000. $38,000 of that was yard fees alone. I will never go back here. I would encourage anyone to look elsewhere.

This review should be Zero stars for FWM but they did convince me to spend a lot of money and for…read moreawhile I believed they had my best interests in mind. That was my biggest mistake. The main proprietor, Gary, seems extremely knowledgeable but it doesn't matter if he's not doing the job and there is no Quality Assurance of the work performed. Each time I received my boat back from FWM, it was a mess with oil and fluids everywhere and additional problems to follow shortly after. I repeatedly tried to trust this outfit but it was in vain. Before you use FWM, ask who is doing the work and how they will ensure quality control of the work they do. A technician sent alone to my vessel was a fluid tech from automotive field with little knowledge of the boat he was working on. Service writer is extremely nice and friendly but also a transplant from automotive. Business partner is a hot head and was incapable of reinstalling a sea water impeller which I had to do for them while they present and were being paid to work on my vessel. After performing two major services to my vessel, requiring haul-out and lengthy down-time, FWM failed to properly secure an exhaust bypass hose connected to a through-hull and the result was an engine room filled with diesel exhaust that shut off power the the turbo and rendered my vessel nearly limp in open seas under rough conditions. The culprit was two hose clamps left open after their removal of transmission for a service that may have caused additional and larger issues. The soot alone coated every inch of the engine room and ruined the fresh air intakes for two engines. Leaving the boat a mess after service is bad enough. Having additional mechanical issues on the same component after two very expensive and connected repairs is extremely coincidental. But, creating potentially catastrophic damage to a vessel off-shore and underway is negligence and should be criminal. Instead of taking any responsibility, Gary will defend this by pointing out how I lost my cool when they reported a completely damaged outrigger through saying, "I'm sure you know about this already" and then telling me "it's not our responsibility to give you the name of the person that told us". Or how I was upset when I received a lecture on "Industry Standards" after I alerted them that the tech should not start the engines without opening the raw water intakes first. I'm sure FWM feels they did the best for me. That is the scary part. They feel righteous about their work. Rather, they failed each time to even clean up after themselves, left bolts out when doing reassembly, damaged in-tact hoses during reassembly causing leaks, and failed to secure a critical exhaust hose leading to multiple issues and eventually causing a major cleanup job and replacement of expensive components. Each time FWM has defended themselves instead of doing the job right or at least providing a customer with proper info an opportunity to ask if the issues were related. Yet, still I paid and paid and even wanted them to come back and finish the job. Why? Because they were to my knowledge at the time, the only show in town and also because I believed they would make it right. Boy was I wrong. Part, service writers, and techs are not to blame here. This review lies squarely on the owners. They present a heck of a front and even take the time to write lengthly dissertations on their work but they don't follow through, check the work conducted by their junior technicians, or stand behind their mistakes. Worst experience about boating in 20+ years on the water. I have built and maintained relationships with all of FWM's surrounding vendors for years and thought this was to be the same. Instead, this experience makes me sure I will never own a vessel with similar components requiring me to work with this group again.

I had a very positive experience with Morton Marine Services. Initially, I was…read moreunclear about various businesses working together with Safe Harbor Marine, where I was hauling out my 33 foot sloop for bottom cleaning and painting. I advised them that I wanted two seacocks inspected and possibly replaced, as well as repacking of both the prop shaft and rudder post. Upon haulout, I was directed across the yard to Morton Marine for those engineering issues, as Safe Harbor was only handling the bottom exterior of the boat. Upon arrival, I met with Stan, who was aware of the work I had requested, and came with me to size up what was needed before the boat even left the water. He clearly understood my concerns and described a plan of action. He was certain the work would be completed within the 4 days Safe Harbor was allowing for the bottom job. Before I went home on day one, the boat was hauled and on jackstands. I was absent for day 2, but they must have hit the ground running as most of my work items were handled then. On the morning of day 3, I was back to the yard to check on progress, and found the Morton Marine employee Vadim just finishing the rudder post packing. Everything I'd asked for was done and the yard was planning for launching soon. He then told me that they had observed pin hole leaks of water from my engine exhaust hose that was next to the rudder post. I knew the hose was old, but was surprised that it was worn to the point of failure, allowing exhaust gasses into the interior of the boat, a very dangerous situation. Of course I directed that it be replaced, which was possible pierside after launching. This called for removal of a decorative panel covering a wooden box thru-way for the hose to rise vertically upward a few feet above the waterline to prevent vacuum siphoning of seawater into the engine. At this point Ken Morton (owner and ops boss) arrived and personally assisted in panel removal to ensure it was not damaged. Mine must've been the smallest job in the yard, but the attention I was getting was amazing. We then found very rusted and disintegrating stainless tubing at the top of the hose loop. Ken said he would try to find a replacement, but it might have to be fabricated (very expensive). I was resigned to the cash outlay since this was a serious safety hazard, but the next morning Ken called to advise that Stan had reminded him that a far less expensive fiberglass loop was available. Five hours later, everything was done, including Stan adjusting the prop packing gland for a proper drip rate with shaft turning ahead and astern pierside. The worksite (my galley, head, and aft cabin) was wiped down and vacuumed. Everything Vadim and Stan worked on was clean and meticulously done to the highest standards. I am very grateful to Vadim, and Stan, and Ken for their superb work and attention to a major safety issue I had missed. These are the guys I will return to for boat servicing in the future, and I wholeheartedly recommend them to anyone needing engineering work on their boat in the San Diego area.

A Caucasian woman suddenly walked in, chose the sink right next to me--despite several others being available--and aggressively threw her keys or badge near my area. I found it odd, but tried to brush it off. I walked outside and told my husband, who had been patiently waiting for me. She followed shortly after and walked toward the dock area. Before we left, my husband went to the restroom, and I waited. As we approached the parking lot, I noticed her walking toward me again. Before she even spoke, I had a feeling I knew exactly what was coming--like something straight out of the "Karen" TikToks and Instagram videos I've seen. She rudely and aggressively asked, "Do you have a slip here?" I was caught off guard--shocked this was actually happening. She asked again, as if I didn't hear her the first time. I turned to my husband, unsure of our slip number, and before we could even explain, she escalated her tone and said, "Well, I thought it was weird that you were taking a shower and he was waiting for you. Then he goes into the bathroom, and now you're leaving. I've never seen you here before." My husband (a retired police officer), was waiting for me because there was only one badge for entry between us, so it was not weird at all. We told her that yes--we do have a slip. My husband has actually been staying here for nearly three weeks. She continued to insist that our presence was "weird," and said, "I watch out for this place." As a Filipino and person of color, I have never experienced racism so directly. The way she treated us--her assumptions, accusations, and tone--made me feel deeply disgusted and unwelcome. If this is how she treats strangers who don't look like her, I can only imagine how she treats others.

Now, the driver's seat is turning black, the flaking is coming back and the seats are a light tan color. It looks worse than it did before the repair. I can't believe I am the only person giving this place a 1 star if they thought this repair was acceptable. The guy doing the repair was very nice and it's just a regular car, not a collectible or anything like that. I'll probably ask Lindy's to re-do the work if they can. Then again, Lindy's referred me to this place, so I'll maybe just look elsewhere or live with it.

When I asked them for a quote to re-upholster 17x20 dining room chair, they wanted to charge $75 a piece for 6 dining room chairs. No deal, no hourly rate; no negotiation whatsoever. Then they said that they would not do delivery because normally you can "unscrew" the seat of the chair. I'm sorry, but by the time I unscrew the chair and bring a bunch of those over to you with my own fabric, what am I even paying you for? This might be really reasonable for upper class people. They did say at this business that reasonable is relative and I would agree. I was not able to get my service done here because it is way too steep. They were cordial, but clearly exclusive.

Quoted at very fair price and time to complete was much faster than I anticipated. Very friendly and did an incredible job. Would recommend to anyone looking for any upholstery job. There are several good upholstery shops for boats, it was hard to choose. Having an older boat to update, we liked that Kevin had an eye and the best ideas, including pricing on how to resolve the back seating that was too short in the galley. On top of that, the lumbar support hit way too low because I have a long torso, and it was actually aggravating my sciatic nerve. He was able to add foam to the seat and raise the lumbar support, and it made a huge difference. The car is so much more comfortable to drive now. I'll admit I was a little hesitant at first because the shop is behind his house, but after working with him I wouldn't hesitate to recommend him. He was easy to communicate with, got everything done quickly, and the quality of the work was excellent. You can tell he really pays attention to the details. If you're thinking about having your seats repaired, modified, or made more comfortable, I'd definitely recommend giving him a call. Fair prices, quality work, and someone you can trust. I was going to get the work done with an upholsterer that I had used years ago for another vehicle, but they were no longer in business. I turned to Yelp and read through numerous reviews and felt that AB Auto Upholstery was right choice. I drove over and spoke with Abel, who I found very friendly and knowledgeable. He looked the area over, confirmed they could do the repair, quoted me a price, and even said that they would do the work on a Saturday. It took about 3.5 hours to repair the damaged area on my seat and it looks absolutely brand new. I am pleased with the quality of the work and how the color matches (keep in mind this seat has about eight years of wear, so the color is a tad brighter because of newness only). Thank you Abel and team for the awesome repair job.

I came back after 15 days to pick it up and the lady told me "Carlos started it but it's not finished yet, but it'll be ready at the end of the today or the next morning". I returned in 5 days to pick it up and when the same lady working there saw me she said outloud "oh shit". Well,the bench wasn't only not done but the work hadn't even been started yet. At that point I took it to have done elsewhere. Not only was there no communication but I was lied to about the time line. And the worst thing is telling me the project was started when it wasn't. Just a bunch of disrespectful bold faced lies. Sorry to say I won't be coming back.

I found his prices to be very fair and straight forward. He stayed true to his timeline of completion that we discussed. I was very pleased with his communication as a whole, especially since some other businesses to which I reached out, failed to even respond to my initial inquiry. Josue performs quality work. The seat pads are firm, and the fabric evenly dispersed. It all looks very clean, and my pictures don't it justice. While they appear grey, it's actually navy blue. I would not only recommend Josue for any upholstery project, but would gladly hire him again in the future. He might be a small business, but does fantastic work at a reasonable price and is quick in doing so.
