My 2005 Honda Pilot had a really bad sagging headliner problem, the fabric was coming off on all edges. The foam had long since disintegrated and would make a mess in my car. I couldn't open the windows, or even have passengers or food in the car since foam would sprinkle everywhere from above. I decided to invest in reupholstery since I'm trying to keep my car as long as possible. We got a quote over the phone and drove in, thankfully Martin was able to take us in! He made quick work - we came Monday at 1pm, it was ready by Wed 10am. Martin is a one-man show, doing this for over 20 years. He is such a pro! As you can verify, I provide 4-star ratings or higher. In this case I was so put off by the vendor (particularly as a female) that I had to post this review regarding my experience with this business. 1) Apparently, if you have Geico insurance they "don't want to waste their time," and IMMEDIATELY direct you to go elsewhere. 2) Reasonably friendly at the outset but EXTREMELY DISMISSIVE once the "Geico" word was spoken. I rate one star because the initial reception I received was professional. Upon trying to explain my situation, and after mentioning Geico, everything went DOWNHILL (this was disappointing because they have good ratings on Google). The person that would have provided a quote was not even aware that the current convertible top on my car is OEM and not GM--where they told me I BETTER go because they do not install OEM tops, liners or parts; further stating that is WHY their business name contains the word "Quality!" I was told that he did not want to waste his time providing me a quote to which I replied I didn't either -- that type of energy does not deserve my business or working on my car. Unfortunately, the man was extremely dismissive and condescending. I have plenty of experience with cars, motorcycles and mods of each. It was a reality check that not all car enthusiasts are treated equal AND not all business owners really care about their potential clients or their needs. I called the next highest rated convertible top repair shop. The phone etiquette was welcoming and they stayed open beyond their closing time to provide me with an inspection, quote and booking date for top replacement. They further provided Geico with a Supplemental quote to cover both my liner and top (GM products). Caveat emptor with this vendor and ENSURE your parts are legit. read more

The upholstery on the driver's seat in my Acura was peeling. I didn't want it to get any worst than it looked, so I went to yelp and found Quality Auto Upholstery in Kearny Mesa. I spoke with Martin and took my car to him the same day to get an estimate. He provided a verbal quote and asked me to bring it in the next day. He originally told me it would take 1/2 day to complete the job, but he finished an hour or so early. He's friendly, efficient and pretty fair with his price too. I shared my before and after photos with my coworkers and friends, and when I told them how much I paid they all commented "that's a good deal." Martin is wonderful! He is a one man business, does the work himself. My fiance brought in his 2003 Nissan Xterra because the headliner was saggy. Martin quoted us a price, we left the car, and he mentioned he would call us when he was finished by the end of the day. When it was time for him to work on the car, he noticed that there was a heavy amount of glue on the fabric which created an extra amount of work. He called us and told us about it and said it would be a bit more expensive but wanted to check with us to make sure it was okay before he proceeded. I appreciate that in a business because I have experienced a business just making changes and charging you at the end without notifying you beforehand. Martin finished the car within the day. The interior of my 2001 Nissan XTerra was looking quite worn and showing its age with a sagging roofliner and holes in the driver's seat, exposing bare metal that would dig into my back. I tried to ignore these issues by telling myself that they added to the car's character, but one day enough was enough. I looked through various reviews on Yelp and saw that Martin was recommended by Alvin O, who tinted my other cars. That was a golden recommendation to me, so I sent an e-mail to Martin with pics of the interior problem areas. He sent me an e-mail reply with a very reasonable quote, and I followed that exchange with a phone call, during which I was able to make an appointment for a few days later. Martin was also working on another car that day but he was able to finish that vehicle and my roofliner before day's end. The worksmanship was impeccable. The roof looks brand new (obviously) and the interior seems brighter (never realized how dirty the old liner was!). It looks really, really good. As for the seat, it was a factory pattern so Martin had to order it from Nissan. Otherwise, he would have also finished the seat in the same day. The problem was, with my own work schedule, I couldn't see when I would be able to bring the car in next during Martin's regular Mon-Fri hours... but Martin told me, "No problem, let's get you in on a Saturday then, just let me know which one's best." Is that customer service or what?!? The factory fabric came in within the following week, we met up on the Saturday we blocked off, and in only two hours not only had he repaired the seat, he also added new padding that makes the seat infinitely more comfortable than it was before and adds support almost on par with the bucket seats in my sports car. I'm extremely pleased. On top of everything else, since he had nearly the entire interior loosened up to get the roofliner out, he noticed a two things that he fixed for me no charge- a missing seat belt clip button, and a stuck seat slider. I had given up hope on the passenger seat slider a few years ago but Martin took it apart, found two nickels trapped by the frozen grease in the sliding mechanism, and bam, it's working great again. The customer service, pricing, and worksmanship are no less than A+ here. I will definitely be back for a custom interior on my other car! read more

I called about 5 different places for a quote on replacing my falling headliner. While most places quoted roughly the same price, Martin was a few dollars cheaper and he was able to help me that same weekend, while others were trying to book me a couple weeks out, or asking me to come on a weekday, which would have been difficult with my weekday work schedule. I don't think he normally works on the weekends but he was able to help me out and showed up that Saturday morning, happy to help. He let me see the fabric to make sure I liked it as he pre-warned it would not be exactly the same as I what I had. The fabric was not the same as what I had but was still very nice looking and was half the price of what my fabric would have cost so I was more than happy with it. I brought my car in and he was done within a few hours. Martin was friendly and honest, I'd recommend him in a heartbeat. Seat back panel was broken during seat cover replacement. The story: My car seat ever since I got seat covers replaced at quality auto upholstery has been making awful creaking noises. Think loud and annoyingly often. So, I took the car to my mechanic, who knows it well. He told me my seat back panel, which needs to be and was removed during the seat cover replacement, had ripped off tabs that properly secured it to the back of the seat, because it wasn't removed properly, and was forcefully ripped off the back of the seat. Like many cars, this panel attaches to the back of the seat and locks in the seat covers. So now it causes persistent rubbing and creaking noises as I drive all over town. Now I'm on the hook for a 2x 160$ for new seat backs to fix the noise issue. Hugely disappointing... read more

Had a ripped arm rest on my Pilot and needed some help fixing. Found Quality Auto Upholstery on Yelp. Brought in the arm rest for my Pilot was done in 1 day; no fuss, no muss. Liking the work that was done on the Pilot, I brought in the front and rear seats for the never ending project car. Wire brushed/cleaned up the frames, spray painted them, rebuilt the front/back seats. It must look just like it did when it rolled off the line in 68. Absolutely AMAZING job!! They look brand new. After saving money by not purchasing our Maxima with leather i cam a cross a great deal on a Kazkins leather kit. I called around and people wanted to charge me way to much. I found Martin and gave him a call and he was willing to keep my car overnight in order to ensure its safety. I dropped our car off at 0900 went to work an the entire Leather was installed by 5pm. I always keep my extra car in the garage, and when I left it out for a few days, the headliner started sagging! Well... it was really noticeable since my car has round top (VW Beetles), and I started calling upholstery places. I called Jim's Upholstery first, and they gave me a quote of $175 but were not flexible with scheduling. I work 8-5, and there was no way to fit it in my schedule unless I took some time off. Then I called Quality Auto Upholstery, and Martin told me $200 and could do it right away. I went ahead and brought my car here. It was a small mom and pop shop, and it seemed like Martin works by himself. I left my car after work one day, and I came back next day. It was done as promised, but it looked weird at first (because I picked a different color than the original). After awhile, I really love how nice it looks, and he also told me he guarantees his work for a year (he basically said if it doesn't come off in a year, it will be there for several years). He was pleasant to talk to, and I have no complaint. I gave 4 stars because of the higher price than the other place and the car could be vacuumed a little better. read more

Was pleasantly surprised with how well and relatively inexpensive it was to have my center armrest recovered in a 1989 Toyota Supra. Came out great. My only issue was the estimate I first got was for $65, and when I decided to go ahead with it a few days later he quoted $85 but when I told him it was $65 before he immediately matched price. I recently purchased a 2009 VW GTI, but it had the dreaded sagging headliner that's apparently common with Mk 6 Golf/Rabbit/GTI models. After calling around different auto upholsterers, quality auto upholstery offered a very fair price for the excellent work. The only caveat is that the texture of the fabric is not the same as the OEM, but it looks and feels better than the original in my opinion. I would definitely recommend! read more
