When i tell you this school is great, trust me it is! Lots of these students who have written…read morenegative reviews are troubled students. I've had my fair share of times getting in trouble school to. Yes some of these teachers may be strict, but here not mean. Also yes, they do separate you into different English and math groups but it's one hundred percent based on ability not biased teachers. Overall in my experience the classrooms, library, auditourium, etc are clean. YEs, sometimes there is trash on the ground but its a middle school!

I was originally gonna come in and write a review just to trash the school and leave a one-star…read morereview, but I realized that there is more to the middle school than that. Here's my whole-hearted and honest review of the middle school from a student's perspective. As a student who attended this middle school for three years, I think this school is good, but it could still improve. First of all, the campus is beautiful with a great view of the San Gabriel Mountains from the second floor facing the quad. The best part of my middle school experience was that I never got any bad teachers, and all my teachers were great. I really liked Ms. Clark (English), Mr. Farrell (band), Mr Aispuro (math), and Ms. Simonian (history). I also really enjoyed the library, and Ms. Baranets was always someone I could talk to. Finally, I have to mention Fabio. Fabio is the absolute greatest of all time. He is super patient and kind. Fabio runs the stage crew, and basically every event the school does. One of my first complaints is the food. I know that public schools can't help the funding they receive from the state, but this food is not good. My second complaint is certain office staff. They were constantly unhelpful and condescending. I feel like it would be wrong if I didn't mention this, but the auditorium is haunted by a ghost (fair warning to future stage crew members). As I move on I will always remember my experience at South Pasadena Middle School, the good, the bad, and the ugly.

My daughter was attending a Montessori school prior to our looking into Clairbourn, and I felt that she needed more opportunities to perk her growing curiosity in life. Clairbourn School definitely has an abundant resources and opportunities to provide! What really made me so happy about switching over to Clairbourn was their strong emphasis on teaching and instilling kindness and respect for one another. Clairbourn also really felt like a family, a very caring and welcoming community. Every event they put on is so carefully thought out. Their back-to-school STEM event was amazing, the Grandparents/Parents Appreciation Days were so special, their Entrepreneur/Family BBQ was so much fun and their Christmas Show production was so well put-together. Unfortunately COVID hit us all by surprise in March 2020. I applaud how quickly Mrs Rankin learned and adapted to providing a virtual learning setting for the remainder of the school year. She personally dropped off weekly activity kits for my daughter and surprised us with a photo book at the end of the year with snapshots of our daughter's remote learning journey. We were looking forward to joining Ms Rubio's Pre-K class this past year, but due to LA County's Safer at Home mandate, their preschool was not able to open for in-person learning for Fall 2020. In the meantime, their head of school, Dr Patzlaff, and their lower school director, Mrs Paciorek, were very attentive and provided guidance on age appropriate activities our kids could engage in and continue in their development. They've been very communicative throughout this past year and very flexible and understanding of each family's situation. Your child will be loved at Clairbourn School--200%! You will have no doubts.

While that was hard to see, the school has grown into something even more special. What makes this place stand out is its intimate and caring community. Every child and staff member knows each other by name, and they genuinely care for one another. Friendships here grow from genuine kindness and love, reflecting the core values of a Catholic education. Because of the small class sizes, teachers are able to give each student so much individual attention--it truly feels like a gift. The academic support is outstanding, and students thrive because they get the time and focus they need. Beyond academics, kids here learn to be kind, polite, and caring. Some may view this as a sheltered environment, but I believe kids deserve a safe and loving place to grow. Childhood should be about nurturing their hearts and minds--there's plenty of time later to face life's pressures. Let kids be kids; the challenges of adulthood will come soon enough. If you're considering this school, I encourage you to talk to the other parents. It's a place where children not only receive excellent academic preparation but also grow into compassionate and grounded individuals. Tuition is fair, especially considering the small class sizes and the level of personal attention students receive.
