Do not recommend, avoid at all costs. They were ringing doorbells in my neighborhood and it seemed like a quick and relatively reasonable way to get some trees trimmed, bushes removed and brush cleared. I explained to the project leader that I didn't want too much cut off the trees, as they were planted by my father, who is no longer here, and I wanted to keep them healthy. His speech was slurred and difficult to understand, but I confirmed in the work order that only 5 feet would be trimmed and that once they started cutting, they would show me how much they took off, before they completed the whole tree. That did not happen and while I was working inside, they cut it down so much, I literally gasped once I saw the finished product. Beyond this issue, they did not remove 2 bushes we had agreed on. They left and I did not hear back from them for over a week. I figured they realized how much they had botched the job and decided to not charge me. Then I got a call about collecting payment. After describing the situation and having a staff member look over what had happened, they only agreed to come down $50 off of the original price. This was after she had much discussion with both the project leader and the owner of the company. Needless to say, I am beyond annoyed and just hoping that my trees will survive this very poor treatment. DO NOT HIRE THEM. read more

Do not hire KO Tree Services. They dumped an entire truckload of mulch in my yard that is far beyond any reasonable amount necessary for any homeowner. If you read KO Tree Services reviews on facebook, google reviews, yelp reviews and the Better Business Bureau, you will see that if you ask for "the free mulch" they dump the whole truck as business practice. Over and over again without regard to the homeowner or the burden of expense it will be to remove. I have several estimates attached to this review. I paid $550.00 for removal. All of you should know that a tree company's dumping fee is around $75.00. I have this information from every estimate I received from cleanup quotes. That's how much KO tree Services thinks of their customers. To literally burden homeowners with such an unexpected and costly expense. Disgusting. I walked with the crew around my property talking with the project / work site manager going by the name Cowboy. I pointed out the 2 flower beds where I could use the mulch. I also showed him a picture of a giant pile of mulch one street over. I explained to him I do not need that much mulch, just enough for the 2 beds as a weed barrier. He explained to me that they did that job as well, and understood I would only need a small amount. The pictures you see are the pile of mulch in my yard after I used all the mulch needed for the flower beds. A homeowner does not expect or even suspect a company would dump such an extraordinarily large and excessive amount of mulch in their yard. That's why I'm writing this review. I feel completely bamboozled and taken advantage of by K.O.tree services. If you take anything away from this review, please take this: do not trust or work with this company! Beyond the unprofessionalism of showing up unannounced and unscheduled, completely destroying all my crate and myrtle's and leaving the job with a fire hazard, they also completely misrepresented several expectations for the job. For example, Cowboy offered to leave a "small" amount of mulch in the back left corner of my driveway (equivalent to a bag or two that you get from Home Depot). He explicitly made clear to his crew where to leave it and how much to leave. Cowboy told me, the tree chipper was "new and made high quality mulch." Emphasizing it's the good stuff and people pay a lot of money for this. When I asked what it cost, he answered: it was free and, "it didn't matter to them whether I keep some or not bc it cost them $500 to haul off regardless." I agreed to the small amount we discussed. I was shocked when I came out to find the crew had left without saying anything and they had dropped the ENTIRE truck load of chippings in my driveway. This was not the amount as discussed--this was the width of my house and taller than my trash bins. I can't even get around to move my trash bins back to their place. Furthermore, I learned the mulch is UNTREATED and attracts termites so you shouldn't use it as mulch to begin with. Lastly, and most terrifyingly, the mulch pile left behind will frequently start SMOKING. Until I can afford to haul it off, I have been drenching it with my hose in fear it will catch file. If what Cowboy said is true, and it cost them $500 to haul off and dump the chippings... then by dumping it all on my property, they were able to pocket the extra $500 even though it was included as part of the $3k I paid. When requesting that they haul it off, they told me it would cost me an additional $500. I already paid the $500 as part of my initial bill so this would be double dipping. Based on this, along with a number of other misrepresentations, I believe they saw an opportunity to take advantage of a young single mom. This is unfortunate, especially bc it involves the safety of my home and daughter. I hope the owner sees this review and decides to do the right thing and remove the mulch. There are customary professional expectations for any services including scheduling arrival, handling personal property, seeking permission to access a neighbor's property, and conducting business honestly. I cannot recommend KO Tree for two unannounced visits, broken items in the yard, rude & dismissive behavior towards my neighbor, and the "free mulch" is a complete joke. It's garbage! I specifically asked for a small amount of mulch for a small garden area. Instead I found a mountain of trashy mulch that I'm now spending weekends removing. read more

The summary here is that they did a great job and provided a great value, but they're a little disorganized. I would hire them again. The good: showed up with a big crew and proceeded to do the work exactly as we had agreed. Very skillful and hard workers, cleaned up all the mess when they were done. Some of the trees were very close to my house, but they never let anything touch the roof or exterior of my home. They didn't take any shortcuts and the work they did was excellent. Pretty reasonable price. The bad: strange and slightly pushy sales process. They arrived later in the day than we discussed, right before sundown in fact, and I thought it would have been better to just show up first thing in the morning. I added on some work to the end of the job, and they were very slow about showing up to do the rest of the job. After going over work to be done I was given an estimate which was within my expectations . The workers showed up first thing in the morning as was scheduled and got to work. I had 2 professional climbers and ground crew as support. They all worked together and did a great job! Totally satisfied with KO Tree services. There's a first time for everything and this will be the first time I write a review for a company I didn't even hire. Apparently these guys go door to door trying to drum up business. It just so happens we need over a dozen very large trees removed, so when "Cowboy" showed up at my doorstep this afternoon, I decided to walk the property with him (my mistake - I know better). His associate lurked in front of my house while their other associate (a driver?) sat in her vehicle on the street. It was very strange. Cowboy is a fast talker, throwing out all kinds of numbers and stats that aren't verifiable and are borderline absurd (he said he had 50,000 clients and then said 500 clients). Once we got to the back of my property, I started to get uncomfortable, so I began to walk back around towards the front. He gave me a ballpark verbal quote. I told him to come back in the evening and speak to my husband. Fast forward to 4 PM. My husband informs me he'll be working late, so I call Cowboy and let him know this evening isn't good for us. At this point I'd read several reviews (terrible) and knew I wouldn't be hiring them anyways. He tells me he can come by as late as 8 PM. I tell him that's probably too late, but I'll talk to my husband and call him back if we want him to come by. 9 PM rolls around. We're relaxing on our back patio. I decide to take the dog inside right as a car rolls up our driveway. As I'm putting the dog in his crate, the doorbell rings. IT IS NINE PM ON A WEDNESDAY NIGHT IN SUBURBAN CHARLOTTE. WHO DOES THAT? We ignore it. He waits a few minutes and rings it again. We ignore it again. He finally leaves about 5 after nine. I will NEVER hire this company. It is incredibly unprofessional to show up at a private residence after dark without an appointment - especially after the potential customer informed the business they would be in touch if they were interested. I tell him I need to be there when it is done. He was pushy asking if my daughter had authority to sign a contract. I said No! Cowboy sets appointment with me 9am Thursday as I speak to him on the phone.. I take a Thursday off to meet him at my property. Never showed! I do not recommend this company. (1) They don't show up on the day they say they will come. (2) OVER PRICED (3) Left a mess of piled wood in the middle of my yard after 'telling' us they would stack it on the side. (4) Apparently we initialed work to be done on what they call a "contract" but they didn't leave a copy of a 'contract'. (5) Insisted we pay CASH only - this is Shady (6)charged $100 to cut down 8 low hanging limbs off a large tree and only cut ONE limb, (7) Verbal commitment to grind stumps and this is main reason we hired them. But it is not listed in an apparent "Contract" so we are left with large stumps. Were told can't cut them low because it would not be good for their chains on saw. I offered to pay 75% of the bill since they cut down 3 small trees and I needed to hire someone else to finish the bulk and hard parts of the job. They insisted I pay full price. Their sales man Cowboy is off the cuff and is not always on track. Make sure everything is written on the contract. The work crew is friendly and professional. We have used them twice. They have taken down more than 10 trees on our property. They removed all the trees and debris. They left our property in perfect condition. The owner stopped by to check the progress. read more

They will be your lowest price, but you will get what you pay for. Half the work we had talked about wasn't even done. I ended up paying another company to come clean up their mess, and the experiences weren't even comparable. The work was careless at best. The amount of damage to the yard was excessive. Limbs were never lowered down, so nothing but holes and crushed plants after. Other company that came after either used a bucket truck or hand lowered everything to the ground. Must have sold the job too cheap, as twice knocked on my door to try to tell me there was additional work that needed to be done. He obviously had forgotten we had originally talked about cost for some of it, and what he wanted day off was double what he originally offered. read more

I would not recommend this service! My experience with them and their work was disappointing, I was charged extra to climb the tree so that it could be cut properly as to not fall onto my shed. They did not climb the tree and cut the limb and allowed it to fall down on the roof of the shed, hopefully no damage. The work and quality was not worth what was charged. Their customer service was lacking with no follow through from management to address concerns from the customer. I will not use them again. read more

Do not use this company highly unprofessional. I used them on a referral from a neighbor but should have done more research. 1st they made appointment to Monday tried to come on Sunday when I clearly said that day did not work. Then on Monday they did not show had to call company got a clueless person then when it's almost dark they show. Who shows up to work 1 hour on trees? Next day no show again. Then they finally come back but left the cut up trees here for days. Cowboy is a true character with lots of empty promises. It was a simply job but bad process. And owner who I never seen called with aggressive tone when I asked about services that didn't happen that were quoted.
