    Gangnam Korea - Shrimp Mandu

After playing a round of golf in the area yesterday, we stopped by to have a late lunch/snack since…read moreour family member (and some friends) recommended it based on their past experiences visiting. More of a casual spot, where you order and pay at the counter, and can choose a table to dine-in at or takeout. Chicken order came with complimentary sides of pickled radish and homemade kimchi. The chicken was very crispy! Glad we checked out this place as normally when trying International cuisine spots in smaller cities, the food isn't usually authentic or has been adjusted to cater to a more diverse palette, but Gangnam Korea kept it true. We didn't try, but they also sold other traditional Korean dishes like 짜장면 (jjajang myun - Black Bean Noodles), 제육 볶음 (jeyuk bokkeum - Spicy Stir-fried Pork), and a few others. Surprisingly they sell Pho as well though, which is Vietnamese. Pricing is very comparable to Toronto prices, so we thought it was worth it since portion sizes were good. Decor was kind of interesting with a section beside the counter was full of various accessories and stuffed animals (for purchase) and the bathroom walls were covered in Kpop poster (not actually stuck on as paper, but painted on?). Would definitely go back if in the area again!

I went with the Half & Half Mozza Dog, while my wife got the Full Mozza, and they were just as good as I remembered. The quality is excellent, crispy on the outside, cheesy and delicious on the inside, and packed with flavour. They also have a great selection of sauces, but our favourites were definitely the Spicy Mayo and Sweet Chili. We also grabbed some Bubble Tea. I went with Sour Blue Raspberry and my wife got Taro, and we both absolutely loved them! For another snack, I got the Beef Mandu while my wife went with the Shrimp Mandu. Both were really tasty, and that flavoured oil they serve on the side was fantastic for dipping. Overall, we had a fantastic experience here. The atmosphere is fun, the staff were great, and the food is genuinely delicious and high quality. It can get a little pricey depending on what you order, but for us, this was absolutely worth it. If you've never tried Korean corn dogs before, definitely give this place a shot! For more food, travel, and attraction reviews, check out our YouTube channel A&M Roam!

It's our first time here at Tian Ya BBQ which is a decent Korean-style AYCE BBQ restaurant in Barrie. We usually go to ones in Markham and/or North York. Their fried spring rolls and scallops (4/5) were delicious with a good crisp on the outside, giving you a crunch with every bite. The spring rolls could use some more filling. The Volcano Roll was enjoyable (3.5/5). We liked how they had fried batter on the outside to elevate the texture of the dish. The cream cheese was a delight. The portions were big. The actual Korean-style BBQ was okay (3/5). The kimchi was a bit salty for us. We were hoping it would have more of the tangy, fermented taste to it as well. We liked that it was crunchy and tasted fresh. Their lettuce was also fresh. They did use iceberg lettuce instead of romaine which was different from what we regularly have at other places. We had pork, beef, beef short ribs and squid for grilling. Both the pork and beef were thinly sliced and tender. The beef short ribs were marinated well. Maybe a bit more sesame oil, garlic and ginger to the marinade mixture would really help bring out the sweetness and the umami of the meat. The cuts were okay; the meats could have been balanced with some fat/marbling to keep them juicy. We were also looking to have some ssamjang (fermented soybean paste) and sesame oil with salt to go with the meat. Overall, an okay place to go for AYCE Korean BBQ in Barrie.
