Stopped in for a post golf snack and enjoyed Tapas and drinks outside on their patio. We had the Patatas Bravas and the Olives - both good but a little pricey. I enjoyed a limoncello spritz and it was perfect to end a hot day. They have a little store inside which sells Canadian made alcohol and other Knick knacks and clothing - I was able to pick up my favourite Crafty Elk hard juice beverages!!! Lots on nicely curated items for sale. And the staff were so nice to talk to. This place is dog friendly as well. I'm looking forward to stopping by again soon! read more

Booking was easy. This space kind of has a Toronto vibe and it's supposed to be upscale dining however people still showed up in flip flops and t shirts. Apps - iceberg fried chicken was good but needed more protein for the price (2 skewers would be better then 1). Panchata salad was the winner of the two ordered Main - we both went with 2x seafood pasta. Only came with 1x shrimp in each $30. It should also come with complimentary bread to dip into the sauce. We did order the $5 bread plate and it was great. Recommend Desert - carrot cake was dry and the lemon desert was more dry. Don't recommend desert here at all. Overall for the area it's good, skip the desert, appies need more protein 4/5* - the t shirts and dry deserts lowered the score. read more

Dropped in for a beer and was invited to stay. My wife, three kids and I had a wonderful three course dinner. The service was over the top. We felt like "locals" and we're far from it - being from Florida. :) The Crab Cake app and my son's Potpie were the hits of the table. Call ahead for reservations and preferred seating. Overpriced and under seasoned -- a bad combo. We came here as a large group (9 including two young kids) and had an ok dinner. Four of us ordered fish, salmon and trout, two pork rib chops, a burger and the kids had grilled cheese. Every fish dish was majorly under seasoned. I found myself looks for salt the whole time! The burger was slightly dry, but was still quite good. The pork was by far the best meal of all -- would recommend. The service was pretty good and great atmosphere, especially on the front patio. They accommodated our large group and they made off-menu items for the kids. All in all, a pretty good place, but expensive for what you get. read more

I've been meaning to write about Rhubarb for awhile, and finally... Two special dinner outings to this fine dining restaurant were fantastic. The food is prepared with love and care by a creative chef using sourced ingredients. I appreciate the thoughtful menu with upscale vegetarian and vegan selections. I haven't met the chef (Chris) but when eating his food he feels as familiar as a long-time friend. I've met his wife (Terri) hostessing the dining room with the same attention to creating a great dining experience at the table as Chris does in the kitchen. Their teamwork shows. This dynamic duo not only serve up quality dining in a lovely spot on a river in the north, they have Boshkung craft beer (the brewery is attached to the restaurant and sells take out), and they host an annual, highly successful fundraiser for households needing help with heating costs, and they make their dining experience available to a wider customer base -- as well as rewarding their regulars -- with imaginative seasonal Prix Fixe menus. The Prix Fixe starts up for winter but look for it in fall and into spring. The menu offers choice of appetizer, main and dessert with vegetarian options in each category. The beautiful thing about these specials is being able to attend a bit more frequently and try a wider selection of unique dishes. I have yet to catch the live music that is set to start on Thursdays for the winter. When I go with a couple of friends it will be interesting to see if we sit in the dining room, or the long bar or small, cozy lounge. Each option is inviting in it's own way. And finally... rounding out the experience, the staff and servers have been super on each visit. Rhubarb is all about great food but every detail that supports the enjoyment of that has been seen to. I'd give six stars but they stopped me at five! Reservation is recommended, and often a must. read more

Deconstructed Chicken Pot Pie was a huge disappointment ,Puff pastry was soooo tough if you could cut it, you could not chew it. When we complained no effort whatsoever was made to make us happy ,just got a comment back that the old way they made it was so hot they got complaints??? Service was good ,decor is great however for$80 plus tip for lunch do you not think you should leave happy and not disappointed? read more

One of my favourite restaurants in the Haliburton / Minden area. Have been here multiple times and the service is always impeccable and the food is consistently great. Steak frites, stews or fish are excellent choices. Cornish hen was a bit tiny and probably not enough for a full meal. The decor is also excellent - the owners have clearly put in a lot of effort and care. Added bonus - boshkung brewery is downstairs and served on taps! read more

The food and service are always excellent here! My husband and I have a cottage nearby. We love that Boshkong brewery is on the side of this restaurant. Whether lunch or dinner, this place does not disappoint. The view is gorgeous and always has a great atmosphere. We've had the butternut squash soup and special chicken sandwich. Their fries are so good and perfectly seasoned. For dinner, we've had the lamb shank. It was so tender and buttery. The vegetables were cooked perfectly. Their drinks are great too. This is my third review of Rhubarb. The first was when Rhubarb was located at Elliott Lake and offered "fine dining." It was superb! The second was after they moved the restaurant to Carnarvon Ontario. I was very disappointed in their downscale menu, the noise, the poor service, etc. Now, a couple of years after my second visit, I have been won over. I returned with my family, a party of twelve the day after Christmas. We had four under four! It's a hard group to serve well but the wait staff did a great job. They were prompt and attentive. I had escargots, duck and bread pudding but all in my family were pleased with their choices, which included burgers, steak, and chicken pot pie, to name just a few. My only negative note was when I asked what single malt scotch was available. The server wasn't sure so we went up to the bar to have a look, and she suggested Jamieson, which is Irish whiskey, not scotch. Oh well, I guess they don't get much call for single malts. If you are looking for a family friendly restaurant serving good food with a menu that can please a variety of tastes, Rhubarb fits the bill. They were great! read more

What a great restaurant in cottage country! Food was top notch! We had poutine (one of the best ever!) for an appetizer and then schnitzel for me (delicious) and chicken supreme for my date. What a gem! Food is great and atmosphere is wonderful. We are big fans of their Boshkung beers and always buy a jug to take home.

4 of us came for dinner, first time here. Food was very good Apps, dinners, desserts were all very good. Service was a little slow but we are in cottage country after all. The Rhubarb is a gem tucked away in the Haliburton area, (cottage country). It has great cottage decor and features a stunning view of a lake and the surrounding area. Now to what's important. I've now been there twice and I loved the food each time. I recently had their Chicken Pot Pie, with an escargot starter. Unlike most pot pies where the topping pastry is an after-thought and more of a barrier to the wonderfulness underneath, the Rhubarb tops their pie with a beautifully flaky, yet soft phyllo pastry. Surprisingly, the escargot was the highlight of the meal, featuring healthily sized snails, great bread for dipping, and a zesty sauce topped with cheese. If you happen to be there, be sure to get the crab cakes & scallops if they're serving them. Love this place. read more

The taste, service and atmostphere were excellent. I had the seafood and jalepeno pasta which had a smoky flavorful light tomato base sauce. Went to the Boshkung Brewing Company's new location in Minden, ON where food is "catered by Rhubarb" after the Thai restaurant across the street decided to, unexpectedly, close their doors. After ordering the most expensive thing on the menu, Charcuterie at $20, I was speechless as the server layed down paper plates and a plastic takeout dish with a few bits of cheese, meats, wilted lettuce and three tiny triangles of pita bread. It looked like someone's leftovers that had been sitting in the fridge for days and wasn't enough food for a child. The server was asked specifically if it was enough food for two people to share and responded with a resounding "Yes!" It was not what I had envisioned. Paper plates?! What a joke. Went for dinner while on vacation and this is our absolutely favourite place! Amazing food - steak, chicken pot pie were to die for. Lemon cheese cake was so good that we took some home! The service was fantastic and it has a rustic bistro feel to it. Loved it so much went for a second time during our week up north. The craft beer is great. Bought some to take home.
