This place had an ambiance that made you feel cozy and at home. The service was fast too. We liked how the server was attentive and had a warm smile all the time. It's our first time here at Tian Ya BBQ which is a decent Korean-style AYCE BBQ restaurant in Barrie. We usually go to ones in Markham and/or North York. Their fried spring rolls and scallops (4/5) were delicious with a good crisp on the outside, giving you a crunch with every bite. The spring rolls could use some more filling. The Volcano Roll was enjoyable (3.5/5). We liked how they had fried batter on the outside to elevate the texture of the dish. The cream cheese was a delight. The portions were big. The actual Korean-style BBQ was okay (3/5). The kimchi was a bit salty for us. We were hoping it would have more of the tangy, fermented taste to it as well. We liked that it was crunchy and tasted fresh. Their lettuce was also fresh. They did use iceberg lettuce instead of romaine which was different from what we regularly have at other places. We had pork, beef, beef short ribs and squid for grilling. Both the pork and beef were thinly sliced and tender. The beef short ribs were marinated well. Maybe a bit more sesame oil, garlic and ginger to the marinade mixture would really help bring out the sweetness and the umami of the meat. The cuts were okay; the meats could have been balanced with some fat/marbling to keep them juicy. Went here reading the great reviews but was disappointed The place was small and was dark inside Was a Saturday and lunch hour started at 2.30 pm so at 2.30 pm in the afternoon we paid for a dinner buffet!! There were no ppl dining in the restaurant except us and the lady server not at all polite and rushing you The buffet was very average not too good The sushi was not too good quality wise The rest of the sushi too tasted average They don't write on the menu but even if u order a wee bit extra and can't finish u have to pay extra for it The meats had no taste and the cuts too not that great So be careful when u order here they don't write but charge extra for even a little bit left Disappointed will not go there again read more

This place offers all you can eat Korean BBQ, with some Chinese dishes too. The portions of ingredients to BBQ were quite big, but that of the other stuff was quite small (except that for the fried chicken & pork, which was medium). For example the soups came in the smallest portions I'd ever seen. The meat for grilling had an ok quality & taste for the price. Sadly they don't have many Korean BBQ meats - no bulgogi or pork belly. I thought the seafood would be less fresh but it was actually pretty fresh. Unfortunately the only sauces we got were soy sauce & sriracha (they didn't even give sesame oil). Unfortunately the lighting was on the dark side so it was hard to see if the meats were cooked. Hot & sour soup was so-so - too sweet & not hot or sour enough (but otherwise ok). Wanton soup was Ok. The fried dishes (sweet & sour pork & shrimp, General Tso's/lemon/sesame chicken) were generally so-so. The frying was ok (except for the onion rings which were over fried) with passable sauces. Though the "sesame chicken" was a sweet sour sauce w sesame seeds. The shrimp dumplings (har gao) were not good. The shrimp was not fresh & there was too much filler (including carrot even, it seems) Dessert was 2 flavours of ice cream. The vanilla ice cream was good. They using Electric grills, and it's taking forever to fully cook any meet. But that's not the issue with the place. The problem is that the lady server is so mean and rushing everyone! Worst experience in my life. We didn't whet what we order and she was rushing us! We didn't even ask for the bill and she already made it. We want to order some additional items but she refused. Looking for a good place for Korean bbq. Happened upon this place during a Sunday outing. I didn't find any current reviews on Yelp, but other sites offered many great reviews of this place. Took the opportunity to check it out and 2 adults ate for $56 without tax or tip. Ordered all the meat choices, favourites were the pork and beef and the chicken. Didn't really enjoy the pork sausage. Also order the dragon roll sushi which was quite good. They are very skimpy on the ginger. 4 pieces of sushi with one small sliver of ginger. Ordered the sesame and general Tao chicken which the kitchen prepares - really don't recommend. It came very dry and tough to chew on. The breading was hard and no real difference in flavour between the two. Ordered the pork and shrimp dumplings. The pork was better. Overall the restaurant was clean and the food came to our table quite quickly. If you have trouble with stairs, be warned the washrooms are in the basement, 14 steps down. We were charged an extra $5 for taking home leftovers from the all-you-can-eat buffet. Eit eat everything or order a bit less. read more

Everyone enjoyed their meal. The food is marinated and thinly sliced. It cooks up quickly. Appetizers (Chinese food) are all precooked and you can eat immediately. I think everything but the 'meat,' 'seafood' and 'vegetable' sections comes precooked. We ordered everything at once, and it came out really quickly. Next time I might order appetizers first, and the meat second. Also, whatever you wear will smell like you cooked meat in it. read more

Prices a tad high, customer service quite good, and quality of food very good. My family and I have gone to this venue twice now. This appears to be the only Korean BBQ grill in the area, where you cook your own food on a BBQ sitting in the middle of the table. The quality of the food was very good, the customer service was also quite good where drinks were refilled promptly and AYCE (all you can eat) food was brought to the table promptly as well. This is the only Korean BBQ venue (I've gone to at least 4 other ones in the GTA), where the grills used are electric. The other ones I've been to have had either natural gas or charcoal, so the cooking of the food does not appear to be as even at this venue. The price was a tad high, however considering there is no competition in the area, I wouldn't hold that against them. All-in-all, I do see me returning to this venue in the future. read more

Service is very good. I was there weekday dinner, so the place wasn't that busy (4 tables including myself). Orders came out quickly. Meat quality above average. The slice could be thinner. Meat and seafood variety kinda limited. Some of the precooked fried items had too much dough. It is electric, and the plate took a while to heat up.
