Our most recent appointment was on a Saturday at 9am. We arrived right on time and our dog literally had to be dragged in. He's typically hesitant when we bring him in (which to be honest has always made me feel a bit suspicious about how he's treated) but he's never had to be physically dragged in and that left me feeling uneasy. Our dog's grooming appointments typically last around 2.5-3 hours, so at 12pm we decided to head down to Iowa City (we live in North Liberty). I figured our dog was probably close to being done since we were at the 3 hour mark. We end up waiting until 1pm (it's now been 4 hours) before giving the shop a call to ask for an update. She tells me she's "got him on the table now" and that he should be done in AT MOST 40 minutes. We weren't too happy about this. That made me think that he had been sitting in a kennel waiting to be groomed for a while. An HOUR goes by, still no call. It's now been 5 hours since we dropped him off, and we've now wasted most of our day waiting around for him to be done. This has NEVER happened before (and we've probably had 7-10 appointments over the last year), and we really would have appreciated a call if they knew it was going to take longer than normal. We decided to show up anyway. As we are pulling into the parking lot, we see the groomer and other employees standing in a circle taking a smoke break, and the groomer sees us pull in. Sure enough, they call us 5 minutes after we park to tell us that our dog is ready. He is completely shaved--his fur gets matted very easily so that's fine-- but what's not fine is that it took you 5 hours to shave our dog? And you're taking a smoke break while our dog is sitting in some back room and you know we're ready to pick him up? It's hard for me to write things like this--especially about a small business that's owned by a woman--but this was very disappointing and unprofessional. I also have a strong feeling that if my fiancé and I were older, we would have been taken more seriously and treated with more professionalism. Unfortunately, we will not be returning and we no longer recommend Hawk-dog grooming. :(

I texted their phone number to inquire about any opening and I did not get a response until almost 2.5 weeks later!!! I even forgot what I was inquiring about as I deleted the original message already thinking that I had the wrong number. Now why would I bring my pet here if they can't even show common courtesy to people?

This was the worst grooming experience I ever had…read more Immediately upon arriving, my dog was fearful. The groomer said this was "because she has alpha energy and the dog can tell". I thought that was weird, but dogs can get nervous so I left her anyway. I came back to pick her up and the groomer doesn't even say hello to me. Immediately she complains and reprimands me because my dog had an accident in the kennel and even shows me a picture of it. I understand that's not fun to clean, but most groomers recognize it's part of the job when you work with dogs. Then she tells me my dog was one of the most difficult clients she ever had. She said she needed another person to hold her down as she forcibly groomed her.... a dog should never be forcibly groomed! Every groomer I've seen in the past said my dog was well behaved. However they always warned me that they don't groom dogs if they are too fearful to avoid making it a traumatic experience. To top things off, I asked for 1/2 inch all over and it was left at least 2 inches long and uneven. Thankfully, I went to another groomer to fix her haircut and I was reassured my dog was well behaved and had no issues. Overall bad customer service and bad grooming standards.

I cannot say enough good things about Hilltop! The short story is that I needed to board my already…read moresick kitten while I was away on business for a week. The morning of drop off, she went to the vet again and had 2 more prescriptions on top of her existing one. They were amazing with her! I called way more times than I will admit and I was greeted with kindness every time. The owner kept up communication with me as she did struggle the first couple of days. His wife and kids came in to give her meds, love, playtime, and lots of cuddles. By day 3, she was back to her wild baby self. I wouldn't hesitiate for an instant to take her back, or to recommend them to anyone. She was so spoiled and loved, I couldn't have asked for anything more.

They have strict drop-off times (not conducive to my work schedule), and if you need a time outside of 9-11am for drop-off, you pay $10 extra...same thing if you need to pick up outside of 3-5pm. I work 7a-3p M-F. I was going to drop Arvo off Thursday evening instead of Friday morning so I wouldn't have to pay another night's stay. I had called and left a voicemail stating this. BUT when I got there Friday morning, doors were locked and after I knocked, someone came to the door and said they did know we were coming..... OKAY....I left a voicemail and apparently no one listened to it. Also, I paid for needed rabies, bordatella and one other vaccine so he would be allowed to stay there (over $100). Why would I do that if I wasn't bringing him?? Then since I couldn't be there in time for a 5pm pickup on Sunday, I had to wait until 8pm to get him, which was another $10 tacked on to my bill...There's a person that goes in at 8p to let out and feed the dogs anyway, but I had to pay EXTRA?? Customer service here SUCKS!!

I'm VERY protective of my furbabies, so no random one would do. Researching multiple ones, I decided to give Fur-iendly Grooming a try. They were so nice on the phone and had a cancelation the very next day that we grabbed up. They only had my little one for about two hours and had her looking AMAZING! Her previous groomer had her anywhere from 7-11 hours and never completed her legs or face. They also said my pup was sweet, gave kisses and wanted to be picked up during bath time - only thing she fought on was her nails. I'm definitely keeping Fur-iendly Grooming as my pets fur-care!

We rescued our dog just a few days ago and he was in desperate need of a groom. Nervous, I told her ahead of time that I didn't know what to expect as far as his temperament. When we walked in for our appointment, Benji immediately wagged his tail and wanted Karin's attention. Obviously he could tell she's an animal lover. Based on his initial reaction to her I was a little more at ease. He did very well for his first visit! We made another appointment for a few weeks from now so that Benji can (at minimum) get another bath. Very nice grooming facility on Karin's property. You aren't going to see a bunch of dogs in cages, waiting their turn. I appreciate this a lot because our pup is still extremely nervous, especially loud noises and sudden movements. As a new client, Karin was able to get us scheduled very quickly. I did have flexibility in my schedule, so this helped. Automated text reminders and you can schedule services online. I highly recommend Fur-iendly, but more importantly, Benji does.
