I don't generally like to leave bad reviews and go down that road. I just move on, but was so disappointed and disheartened at my dog's first grooming after moving back to Iowa from The Groom Station in West Branch, Iowa and not hearing back from the owner in response to my disappointment, that I feel the need to do so, for whatever it is worth. Not with $20 let alone $126. Here are pics of her recent groom job yesterday. I asked that they keep her long and that didn't happen and instead even shaved her bald in sections and very uneven everywhere. She didn't even have any mats yet, but that was her excuse. The pics don't even do it justice. Update: The owner did reach out and refunded the visit. She did want me to bring my dog back in for her to see (which I initially took offense to as if she didn't believe the obvious pictures but that is not why according to her).By then it would not look exactly the same since I had to do something to try to even things out while it grew out and I didn't want to cause my dog undue stress since I was not going to have anyone else mess with her at this time.. Luckily, it will grow back and eventually be back to normal but would be hard for me to be okay with same shop even with different groomer at this point. read more

One time at the Petco groomer was one too many, and we backed away (not so slowly) after catching a glimpse of the back room where the dogs are crated up for 4-5+ hours That's why it made this dog mama's heart so happy to find this local gem. Both by phone and in person, the groomers were friendly and professional. They took the time to review and discuss photos of the look we were going for, and did so with enough ease to make me feel confident in the eventual result. They finished in a reasonable 2 hours and we picked up two beautifully trimmed, comfortable and happy (aka not traumatized) doggos. After a couple hours at home, we received a call saying they had forgotten to put the dogs' collars back on. We hadn't noticed because they had been replaced with unicorn bandanas They offered to mail them back to us; however, in the meantime, we had decided we'd love their look even more if their faces were trimmed a bit shorter. The groomers graciously agreed to the touch up, so we took them back and came home with the collars and the two cutest furbabies you ever did see read more

This is my new favorite dog grooming salon! I have an obscenely hairy, 60lb chow who we take hiking and camping with us, so his baths and grooming appointments are well-deserved. The Groom Station has done an excellent job of trimming my pup's hair so he has that irresistible teddy-bear face and well-trimmed belly to keep him cool through the hot months without ruining his chance of regrowing it in time for snowshoeing with us in the winter. Most important though, is how gentle they are with him. Before I adopted him from a shelter, my pup was neglected and is now terrified of people he's never met before. The groomers here though are very gentle and were excellent about letting him acclimate to them before taking his leash. All of this while also being surprisingly affordable. Most expensive groomer in the area, and you get the pleasure of driving all the way out to West branch. Both of those things could be overlooked, except that they treat you like your business is a burden. I will not be returning after my last experience. That will open up some kennel space, which evidently is more important to them than treating their customers respectfully. read more

Really Impressed! We took our long-haired cat to the Groom Station because she had 3-4 very large mats in her fur. After trying for days at home to get them out, I was SURE we were going to shave them off. Amy was able to not only NOT shave them, she only had to cut 1 out and was able to brush out the others. I can't believe no one has Yelp-d The Groom Station on Yelp yet! This place is a gem and am thrilled to have found them as groomers for our two dogs. I've tried multiple groomers in Iowa City/ Coralville, but am never 100% happy with their cuts and prices. A nurse who works with my fiance, who was a former groomer, told my fiance this is the only place to go- and she is right! We've been going for 5+ months now, and am very happy with their quality of cuts. Just like any good human cut- you won't have to upkeep as much. Amy (the owner) is fantastic. Kind and always done on time. She is gentle with our senior dogs- both of which are very skiddish. Her shop is adorable, clean and the staff is always quick and kind to help. While I think her prices increased for 2011 ($39 for a small dog), I'm certain that you get what you pay for! read more

We have appreciated the loving attention our dogs receive at the Groom Station for almost 15 years. The Groom Station team is gentle and responsible, and Zeus and Barclays love their visits. As the dogs are getting older now, we especially appreciate the team and their respect for the special needs of an elderly dog. The location is a little bit out of town, but worth the drive. For years I made the drive 30 mins into West Branch just to get my dog groomed because the quality and service was unmatched. Not sure what happened over the last year but it is no longer focused on the fur animals and more about running a business, having as many animals in and out within a day, regardless if they have the means and hands on board to handle them all. Just picked my dog up from her 5 hour appointment where she was kenneled for about 4 hours of that. Unacceptable in my mind. Felt genuinely bad for my dog. Not the spa day I was imagining for her. Don't make appointments you can't keep- my day off revolved around making 3 trips to west branch from north liberty and the communication couldn't have been worse. Sad to see a business revolved around animals treat animals this way. So so many things could have been done differently- rescheduling, calling me before I drive 30 mins one direction to find out my dogs appt still hadn't been started 3 hours later, etc. read more

The haircuts that I got for my standard goldendoodle always looked good. They matched our requests sufficiently. However, on one occasion they cut one of the pads on his front leg with the razor and each time he got his nails trimmed they bled afterwards although I specifically asked for them to not be clipped. I also was given attitude by one of the hair-cutters that my dog should eat more on several occasions. I assure you that if I am spending $70 on a haircut for my dog I am also feeding him sufficiently. Overall, the quality was just alright but those interactions and hurting my pup were not worth it. read more

after taking my dog to the groom station he contracted a staff infection. i don't know if there's a correlation between his being groomed and later contracting the infection. but i do have two other dogs, neither of whom were groomed, and neither of whom have staff infections. in response to my inquiry about a possible connection, i was left a voice mail where they used SOMEONE ELSE"S NAME, as well as had the gender of my dog confused. is it possible that i'm not the only dog owner who after taking a pet to the grooming station ended up with a vet bill totaling over 800 dollars? when i finally got through to the grooming station, they dismissed my suspicion that my dog may have contracted a staff infection as unfounded. read more
