I love Leash on Life. My first visit ever happened today, as I was in the area and needed to refill our dog treats. As I walked up to the front door I noticed that weekly/monthly specials were posted. After walking in I was immediately greeted by a very friendly and knowledgeable employee who helped me find exactly what I was looking for -- I said rawhides when what I really meant was Bully Sticks. :) I spent around $45 on a nice assortment of dog treats (they have a very large variety including a multitude of small training type treats), a bully stick ring, and Tibetan dog chew. Who knew?! I believe the front half of the store is dedicated to dog items, middle of the store for cats, and then at the very back of the store in kind of a separate room is the food. Had I not just bought my dog's food, I would have looked to see if they carry his brand. I did notice they they carry a large selection of FROMM foods, which I've always been a fan of. They had a cute table of gourmet dog treats that you could use to create your own mixed assortment. Might try this next time. If you need a funny greeting card, look no further. They carry the Avanti brand, which is my all-time favorite. They offer some harder to find subject matters like pet-loss, pet-sitting, etc. Prices are more than fair. Everything I bought could be found online, but at more expensive prices. Excellent customer service. Conveniently located in a strip mall with UPS and my favorite Chinese restaurant in IC. Julie & Laurie are two of the best local business owners ever. They recently pounded through snowmageddon snowdrifts delivering dog & cat food to me while I was housebound, which I will never forget. I can see the hype. Hidden in an unsuspecting (kind of dumpy looking) strip mall this shop is easy to overlook. I have my entire life in IC. But early this year my rescue had an incident nipping a passerby that reached to pet without permission on a nighttime walk. He's insanely anxious and not small by any means. SO. We decided a muzzle would be a peace of mind for us. I inquired with the Animal Shelter on where and what to get. They suggested Leash on Life. Upon entering, I felt warmth. It's hard to describe? It's just a haven for animals, a labor of love. I brought my rescue's fur sister-- a puppy Boston Terrier-- and she was ELATED. All the stuff, smells and people! I searched the shop for the basket muzzle I came for, with no luck. So I asked the lovely, knowledgeable staff. The look on their face at the question was hilarious. (They thought I was inquiring on the muzzle for my super friendly pup squirming in my hands, begging for attention.) After chatting we decided on the correct size. Pricing was on point. The selection was semi limited but they were more then willing to order things. The service is unparalleled. The empathy I received, as I talked about my rescue, I was grateful for! There are MANY reasons to love this place (pricing comparable to and often cheaper than chains like PetSmart and Petco, selection, and two convenient locations), but for me, it boiled down to the first visit. When traffic kept me from arriving to the store before they closed for the day at 6, they called us letting us know that they would stay open until we got there. Once inside, they didn't rush us and were very knowledgeable of their products, particularly their dog crates. We left with some affordable toys and dog bag holder (which was a whopping $13 cheaper than at PetSmart). They even gave a free 15 lb. bag of dog food to try! When my dog recently became picky with his food, they happily provided 6 free sample bags to try. It's remained my one-stop-shop for all my dog necessities. I have been gping to Leash on Life ever since they opened and recommend this store to everyone I meet that has a dog or cat. I view Leash on Life as a professional pet store because all the employees have a vast knowledge of what you may be shopping for. They are absolutely amazing ~~ if you are looking for a new collar or harness ~~ they take time to make sure your pet has the proper size ~~ just bring your dog, cat, rabbit in and they will take whatever time it takes to fit your pet. Also, they know their pet food and pet treats products ~~ I always feel welcome!! Never disappointed in the friendly environment; my dogs are also welcome with a treat ~~ this is definitely the place to go ~~ so much better than the "big box" stores. Leash on Life is THE go-to place for anything you need for your animals. Prices may be a bit higher than other pet stilted, but everything they sell is quality! We adopted a puppy yesterday and went straight to the NL store. Julie walked us through all the essentials as first-time dog owners. Our dog was very disinterested in the food he came with, but he LOVES the food Julie recommended. We will always make a point to stop in and get all the dog essentials when we are in the IC area. read more

This is the only store I could find that sold my special dog food when I recently moved here from out of state. They also have GREAT customer service and have always checked to see if they could order other specialty items for me. My dog loves shopping here, too, and starts barking as soon as we pull into the parking lot, knowing she's about to get lots of love and lots of treats from the wonderful ladies that work there! read more

This is a terrific locally owned pet supply store. You can bring your pet in to pick out their own toys in this welcoming environment. The owners and staff are knowledgeable about their products and provide a nice variety of pet foods, toys, treats, beds, leashes and other things your four legged friend might need. My husband and I were recently blessed with the opportunity of owning a little curl covered lhasa-poo with the vim and vigor of a kindergartner inebriated on sugar. I stopped by here on two occasions, and I know that I will be a returning customer. Located right off Highway 1 in a psuedo-strip-mall, the brick and mortar is very convenient, and easy to get in to/park. The store is a nice size, and filled to the brim with lots of pet supplies. I love that this is a local owned store, with more quirks than what one would find at a Petco or PetLand. This place is unlike any foo foo dog boutique, it is truly for the avid pet lovers. They have an eclectic selection of cat and dog toys, treats, leashes, and other pet necessities. They carry a wide range of dog food, so for those who have pets that suffer from food allergies, I would highly recommend this place. I recently got a yak/cow milk bone that my little four legged friend adores, and I probably would not have found it from a bigger chain store. They also sell some of the treats from the local dog bakery Woofables, which makes this place one-stop-shopping. For the cat lovers out there, they also carry much of the feline adored lines of Yowza cat nip toys, and FatCat Inc. toys. The staff here is more than willing to assist you in any way they possibly can. This is a great local dog store where you will find everything for your fur baby! read more

This is my favorite locally owned pet store! The atmosphere is relaxed: they do not sell pets, only pet food, toys, and supplies. There is a great selection of pet food, including organic and grain-free diets. They are active in the community, hosting adoption events through various organizations, as well as pet first aid classes. My fussy cat will no longer eat any of the canned diets they sell there, so I visit less frequently, but they still remember my name and are always very friendly. read more

This is a great resource. The staff seem extremely knowledgeable about their products and are always willing to take time to talk through the pros and cons of different things. I have compared their prices to one of the larger chains and was surprised to find that they were competitive, and even cheaper on some of them (particularly dog toys). The store is clean and welcoming, and decorated with wonderful photographs that the staff photographer (who seems to do excellent work--I hope to have my dogs portraits done there soon) takes of customers' pets. My dogs are always thrilled to visit the store, where they get lots of attention and treats. We are lucky to have this in our community. read more

Super friendly staff member, Heather, listened to my needs and concerns about creating a new diet for my senior cat and new kitten. She had great suggestions and knows her stuff about the product carried there. A terrific place to get the best cat food for any cat, wether picky eaters or if you're on the hunt for a healthy diet for your kitty. This was my first visit here and customers seemed loyal, happy, and loved bringing their pets there. ( I was only there for 10 or 15 minutes and at least 3 different owners with their happy pups were welcomed and treated with such joy and enthusiasm from Heather and other customers!)
