    samosas

When I'm strolling downtown and want small bites + a coffee buzz (and a place to charge my phone), Kaapicat is my go-to. Their samosas are exactly what you want for a light snack: three crispy samosas served with tamarind date chutney and mint chutney, perfectly balanced and satisfying without being heavy. They also offer mango lassi and specialty drinks, but I stick to what I love: the iced vanilla latte, which never misses. The flavors lean authentically South Indian while still feeling right at home in a contemporary café setting. The space is relaxed and welcoming. You'll see locals, beachgoers, tourists, remote workers, meetup groups, and solo readers all sharing the space comfortably. The staff is efficient and genuinely kind, which makes it an easy place to pop into or hang out for a bit. Hours * Mon-Thurs: 8am-4pm * Fri-Sun: 8am-6pm Bonus points for being nestled in walkable Downtown Ventura and offering online ordering for easy grab-and-go days. Low-key, cozy, and thoughtfully done. A solid downtown stop when you want something simple that still hits.

Cute little café in downtown Ventura. I stopped by to grab a chair early Monday morning, and when I got there, it was empty when they just opened. The chai came out quickly in a disposable cup. The service was good; the girl taking my order to my table called out my name when the drink was ready. They have a cute area for kids to sit and read books, which I loved.

We have had dosas all over the world -even in India and in private homes. My child said this was the best he's ever had and I have to agree. Everything tastes homemade and the service is excellent. Rose chai is amazing and they have vegan alternatives. Highly recommend.

I've been to Kaapicat Cafe in Ventura a few times now and it has been part of my coffee + remote work location rotations. I was first introduced to this place by a friend and have since come back on my own. Big tables to co-work. Strong coffee. Yummy Indian food. (I recommend the masala dosa and crispy mini puri!!!) And located in a place where you can walk around in between calls. What more could you ask for? Come support!!!

Top notch and very authentic kaapi (filter coffee). Also really liked their paniyarams, gunpowder dosa and fries with gunpowder. Their masala dosa could be better. Would not recommend the masala puri. Quick service and friendly staff. Nice ambience..also a great place to work from. Free parking in lots nearby.

Kaapicat is a downtown Ventura gem. Absolutely everything is delicious. A local foodie said it best, eating at Kaapicat will alter your brain chemistry! I had not been in some time, and I made a visit during the holidays while doing some Christmas shopping and my experience as I stepped in was like returning home. No exaggeration, the smell was so warm and inviting; like coming home and you know something delicious is cooking in the kitchen. I have tried almost everything on the menu, so I feel you can't go wrong with any choice. The breakfast sandwich is delightful. The fried chicken sandwich with the mango chutney has a special place in my heart. The chilaquiles from today, we're divine! But that is not on the regular menu. The different dosas are delicious. They come with different chutneys and I can never get enough! The crispy Minii Puri with the tamarind chutney! Amazing! Sometimes the chef/owner does have special offerings that aren't on the regular menu so be on the lookout for that. And to speak of him, I feel grateful to have had the opportunity to compliment him on his expertise in creating so much depth in his flavor profiles in the recipes he creates. In those conversations you can get an understanding on how much he cares about what he serves and it shows in the quality of the dishes that are prepared. Truly an experience for your taste buds! It's also not just an intention to serve good food, but also the space is beautifully decorated and always has such a positive vibe when you are there. The chais are phenomenal. There is a traditional chai and also a cardamom chai. Both are amazing! My other favorites are the Marine Layer (tea) and the Rose Latte (personal love of mine is a Rose Latte). Overall an experience at Kaapicat is not to be missed. On a sunny day the outdoor patio is lovely, or my favorite is to sit inside next to the window. Everyone is so kind and intentional in their service. Tip: The closest parking is the lot on N. Oak St, it's free and a short walk to the Cafe. Otherwise any of the other lots in Downtown Ventura are fine, the walk is enjoyable through Main St.

Oh my god! My new favorite cafe! Such a cute and cozy place. The people were so nice and the food and drinks were made fast! The mango lassi is so refreshing and just the right amount of sweet. The mini puri is spicy and flavorful. The samosas are flavorful and tasty! Highly recommend

Vanilla latte with oat milk n matcha latte with oat milk

Chicken & waffle Hmmm, $18.00 for this? Absurd, literally is a snack for one, if that !the Price is NOT worth the quantity! The waffle tasted like it came straight out of the freezer dropped into the toaster. The chicken breast, tender crunchy seasoned was good . Maple syrup was mediocre .Coffee is ok for my taste, TRULY I've had better . CERTAINLY NO ORIGINALITY !!! Hence their name KAAPICAT !!! DON'T COME HERE HUNGRY YOU'LL STARVE & BROKE because of cost ! I gave 2 stars because of ambiance and my boyfriend's coffee was decent , Vanilla latte with oat milk , better than Starbucks... well most coffee shops are better than Starbucks We spent $32.00 and some change Not worth it

The mini puri balls are like an open face samosa where the sauce is already included. I've never seen those on a menu and I'm a fan! 5 balls for $11. Iced Matcha latte with vanilla was really good. Great airy setting to work from. A few others with their laptops/having group meetings.

It's weird because I have passed by this coffee shop one too many times! Yet I come to Ventura often looking for Indian food and for some reason have yet to stop by. I got the masala dosa, which was so good and filling. I also ordered an iced mint tea recommended by the worker who took my order. The man who also was the chef complimented me on some art I was working on, which was nice to hear after being there for 4+ hours. the actual workout environment had plugs, quiet a bit of tables (in and outside) and most likely WiFi but I didn't ask. I'll be back and this time, I will be gaming my mom who also loved Indian food! They also were decently busy with quick food service for only have three staff. I do believe the people make a place welcoming! so props to the staff for being so lovely for my day out

I was expecting more from Kaapicat Cafe, a new place (for me) in downtown Ventura. The decor is big, airy, kind of cold, since they specialize in modern Indian food I was expecting more character and color. Their coffee-s are decent, strong and have a nice flavor. Customer service is just OK. I went later in the day, so they had no more pastries left. It was nice to see a staff member setting up in front of the store to make fresh dosa-s, which was cool to see. I wasn't super taken with this place, but whenever I'll be in Ventura next time I'll stop by earlier and give it another try!

This is easily my favorite Indian restaurant in Ventura, and the flavors come closest to those that I am used to in Mumbai. Every single item was outstanding. I could even tailor the Shahi Paneer to be made Kadhai Paneer style after placing the order through Doordash by calling the restaurant. I happened to mention this was for my birthday, and they sent me two Mango Lassis with a sweet birthday note! Such a nice personal touch (something they really didn't need to do for a delivery order). Thank you for a great birthday meal! You know I will be back!

The samosas are a must, and I almost always order the bowl combo, which comes with your choice of one entrée and basmati rice, then add the garlic naan because it is perfectly pillowy and way too easy to finish. Chicken Tikka Masala and Chicken Vindaloo are both heavy on my rotation, so clearly I know what I like. The portions are generous, everything travels well, and the prices are reasonable. And I need to mention their drinks because I'm slightly obsessed with the iced chai and mango lassi. Both are very much part of the order now. I've also eaten here in person, and the cozy, casual atmosphere makes it a great neighborhood spot for a quick meal or takeout. Only street parking, but honestly, I'll circle the block for good Indian food. Open 3 to 9 pm daily, closed Tuesdays.

The "Taste of Punjab", in Moorpark, was an over 20-mile one way trip for me from the SFV. If you…read morelike North Indian food, it is my opinion that the state of Punjab in India (and I have spent time there), provides food preparations that are a notch above the rest of its Indian state counterparts (e.g. Uttarkhand, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh). So I called the restaurant to fine tune. Their lunch buffet was only on Fridays. The spread would only contain 3 meat selections, all of them chicken (really, no variety?) and only 3 vegetable choices (really, is that all?) Then an appetizer, salad components and condiments. There would be rice and Naan too. A meager set of choices for a $15.99 buffet? Yet, the restaurant was enticing. Hence the pull, to taste their version, of Punjabi food. That sealed the deal for me and I was on my way to pay a visit, and eat. As expected, the choices were limited. There was chicken tikka, chicken tandoori and chicken curry. For vegetables, aloo bhegan (potatoes and eggplant), peas paneer (peas with sautéed Indian cheese cubes) and dahl (lentil curry). The Naan was not brought fresh table-side, but delivered to the hot case. Still, it was soft and wonderful, actually well executed, had good chew, cut into medium sized pieces. Rice came out in small portions in a bowl and was not dry (unlike other buffets). For appetizers, they had one choice, good sized samosas with a thin wrapping (also unlike other buffets) and a simple ,but very tasty and moist potato filling. They were truly fantastic (I had 4 of them, a first for me!). That too, came out, as needed. Like it should be. For me, this is also a sign of thoughtful food management, to provide just prepared items, to enhance freshness, cut down on wastage. On the condiment side though, there were disappointments. The tamarind chutney was watery and their mint chutney thick, and from a bottle. Not fresh. Raita was creamy, with body and wholesome. What was striking at the Taste of Punjab, was the unmistakable high quality and culinary prowess of the chef(s). Every dish oozed with freshness, aroma, rich flavor and an intoxicating blend of well married spices and taste. The three chicken dishes were tender, with soft meat having a perfect texture to satisfy. Overall, every selection on the buffet was unique because, it felt and tasted so different. High class, is the best way to describe it. I was really amazed and blown away. Was also pleased, that my relentless hunger, curiosity and the lengthy drive here to Moorpark, had borne sweet fruit. It was a reward. Definitely, a Punjabi lunch buffet to remember, for a very long time.
