So lucky that we chanced upon this place during our visit to Ventura. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Lovely ambiance with Nepal themed decor.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The food was amazing! They were super busy on a Saturday evening. The food took some time to come out but was well worth it. Gobi Manchurian was very well done. Momos were excellent! The Chai was great too!

Lovely spot in a shopping mall (parking available). Staff is attentive, and we were seated almost immediately. [[HIGHLIGHT]]They even have some outdoor seating.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]High-backed booths offer privacy without feeling like you're boxed in. Well lit and comfortable.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Whole page of vegetarian (and vegan) options available. Varied appetizers, biryani, meals for two, and even an ayurvedic meal option. Beer, wine, soda. Everything you'd expect, plus a few less common options. The food was fresh, very flavorful, and decent portion size (don't be fooled by the decorative bowls they serve in - there is more than it looks like). Found this recommended by locals in a Reddit thread (some responses from several years ago) - and it's obvious why this restaurant is still around. Damn good food at good prices.

Himalaya is a family run and is well known for preparing some of the best Nepalese/Indian food in the area. I took my daughter for lunch today. Service was quick, friendly, and helpful. The restaurant offers a quiet, soothing atmosphere that made our lunch even more enjoyable. The spicy naan was delicious, and my lamb vindaloo well spiced and very tender. Prices were very reasonable.

A wonderful surprise Ventura treat in an "old mall area" across from a closed Burger King! After a 26+ miles bike ride on the Coastal Pacific Trail route, a fellow biker & dear friend took me here for a most delightful & tasty dining experience! The service is supreme, "Sunny" was most pleasant, friendly, and accommodating. He took time telling us what our dishes were and the tastes were extraordinary! It's similar to Indian cuisine where you can request spiciness in numbers from 1 to 5. I ordered 2 and it needed more!=o) The sumptuous feast starts with Chai tea and culminates with a rich, flavorful rice pudding... A truly great place for a "Viking" Feast after a marathon ride or just with families & friends! [[HIGHLIGHT]]The ambiance is unique and curiously pleasing as we sat next to shelves of merchandise and a Buddhist altar.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I had forgotten what we ordered since my fellow Viking (biking) paid for the sumptuous feast but you can see them in the pix... We were served with generous, meaty servings, unlike other restaurants, perfectly cooked basmati white rice, and warm & delicious garlic naan... what a feast! There was enough food to bring home to my wife for a surprise meal and she loved it! The food was so good she was motivated to find a similar restaurant serving the same dishes the following day... If you need to excite your senses and send your palate to adventurous heights, come eat here! [[HIGHLIGHT]]This place is highly recommended to bring families and friends for a great lunch or a romantic dinner...[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We will definitely be back as this place made my list as one of my favorite places to dine in Ventura County!

Butter chicken and Chicken Tikka Garlic Naan

I came here with a friend based on her recommendation. Food was good. Service was good as well. The restaurant is really put together. I had the butter chicken, medium spice however, it could've been more spicy, which I would have enjoyed a bit more. The garlic naan was really good as well. My friend had the chicken tikka and she really enjoyed it as well. I tried their mango chutney but It was really spicy. The yogurt appetizer was good. I will return here again.

Been here multiple times and have brought different people with me and have left happy every time! Service has been on par and cleanliness of the restaurant as well. It's a good size restaurant not too small and not too big. They have a small area against the wall to the left displayed with small items you can purchase. I've had different dishes and I don't recall a dish I didn't like. Chicken tikka masala was perfectly seasoned and chicken was not dry. Tofu saag was cooked well. Tofu came in small to medium sized cubes and spinach was lightly chopped. It all meshed well together and was not overly flavored or spiced. Garlic cauliflower reminded me of orange chicken with a slight kick to it. Perfectly crisp but not overly fried. So good! Aloo Cauli had a good consistency. Still had a nice crunch to it but soft enough to bite into easily . Sauce was lightly flavored and paired well with the chickwn tikka masala . Garlic naan is always a must ! Papadam is a thin and crunchy snack, served with mint chutney and tamarind chutney on the side for dipping I loooove to start the meal with. Samosa is a triangular shaped pastry filled with spiced mashed potato and some veggies . I like to dribble some of the tamarind chutney to add some flavor to it. Mo Mo (steamed) reminds me of a steamed gyoza. The dipping paste interestingly pairs well with it. It's served cold and soft. Kheer is a dessert rice pudding. Served cold and lightly sweet.

Samosas w/ cheese & spinach naan

My first time having Nepalese/Indian/Tibetan food in about 7 years. I had always heard about Himalaya and decided to stop by for lunch. I dined in and was given lentil soup as an appetizer. i started off with samosas and naan, I love samosas with tamarind sauce and the cheese and spinach naan I could eat on their own for a meal. I also got steamed chicken momos, the momo sauce pairs perfectly, the spices are well balanced and stand out on their own, not muddled. I ordered the Lamb Vindooloo with a side of rice. I enjoy lamb very much when prepared correctly and the cook seasoned the meat and cooked it perfectly, did not taste gamey at all. After I thought I could not eat another bite, I was pleasantly served the cold ginger rice pudding. So sweet, simple and refreshing. I will be back, the food was too good not to, I look forward trying the tikka masala mango lassi

Needed a pick me up for lunch today and was craving something filling, rich, and comforting. Indian food is usually my go to and I was eager to try something a little different as I was working on the Ventura side of town. I remembered Himalaya as it's been open for years and decided today was the day to finally give them a go. I can't rate on interior, ambiance or staff at this time since I only did delivery for this business but hoping to get the full experience some other time when I can stop in. As far as delivery goes this spot has a great menu. I was pleasantly surprised to see all of the options they had to choose from. They had all of the Indian staples I've come to know and love but I was also pretty hyped to see they had Indian pizza and some other cool but non traditional dishes. When ordering from somewhere for the first time though I play it safe with my usuals. I went with the chicken tikka masala, butter naan, and white basmati rice. Kudos to their delivery packaging as everything was clearly marked, traveled well and packaged safely. My order was delivered correctly and with everything I could need which made me very happy! As far as the food goes it's a solid 4 stars from me for now. My chicken tikka masala was good and hit the spot. I just think with so many Indian restaurants and similar dishes, I have others that I would place in my top five. The masala was good here but nothing out of this world. For a casual lunch though I was happy with it. The rice was on point and their butter naan was flavorful and had a lite char which I could appreciate. Definitely not a bad option if you are on this side of town. Just not sure for me yet it stands up to other 5 star competitors.

We love being in the area to eat at Himalaya. Things to get 1) chicken tikka masala 2) butter chicken and 3) samosas. I love to eat everything with the green chutney. The mango lassi is a must have drink too. The service is so attentive and nice. They remodeled inside too. Super cozy. Love it!

Ask the Community - Himalaya Fresh

With Covid-19 happening, will Himalaya have outdoor dining on the sidewalk? Also, do they have a patio?

They do a nice outdoor patio. We walked in on a Saturday evening around 7:30PM and there were plenty of seats.

Are the lunch specials available for takeout?

Yes I believe they will do that, I once took out dinner so they will likely do the same for lunch. I might call to confirm that though.

Do they have lunch buffet?

No. But they do have lunch specials.

Due to that, we switched gears on what we ordered. Iced americano: phenomenal. Very smooth yet bold and refreshing Paneer dosa: a bit of a let down for me. I was not expecting it to be a plain dosa and chutney on the side. Masala dosa: this was better since it was filled with potato. Chicken sandwich: loved this, very juicy and balanced. Side of fries was excellent. The sandwich is small, just bigger than a slider. Finished in 4 bites. Fries with gunpowder: when we got this, it looks exactly like the regular fries. We figured they mustve forgot that we asked for gunpowder seasoning. We went back to ask for more seasoning, expecting them to just sprinkle it on. They were kind enough to remake it and bring it to us, which was very thoughtful. This time we could see the seasoning, but unfortunately they didn't taste any different. Don't get me wrong, the fries themselves were great- amazing crispy texture, but adding seasoning didn't do anything for them. Overall the hits were the Americano and Chicken Sandwich. Service here is fantastic, and the vibe is awesome as well. This is somewhere I'd stop for a small bite, but not the fill up.

YOU ALL!!!! Wanna know how much I love this restaurant??? Well, to start, I have been coming here…read morefor YEARS and have NEVER reviewed it! That's my subconscious, selfish way, from Yelp peeps. LOL! NOW, I finally get to writing a review and realize I HAVE NEVER taken a photo of their FOOOOOOD!!! (Insert face palm so hard it leaves a mark until Ash Wednesday) This visit was a special one to celebrate my friend. Ok, full disclosure: I already knew what she would want, but I also knew I wanted more, and different, meats/preparation. So, yeah, we had dinner and I asked for the menu again, then ordered another feast to go, which I ate for THREE DATS! (Admitednly, could have been 4 days and, actually their portions are PLENTY for 4 people to share, but I didn't. I over ate the 1st day, then paced myself the next 2! where's that palm hit again? POINT BEING!: These are delicious, hearty, fresh, wonderfully flavored dishes at a fair price, made and served by friendly, proud staff. Wow! Where to start - ok, samosas it is! Lovely little delicacies, and some nice options. I have eaten the chicken, the lamb and, of course, the staple Alu(aka Aloo) samosas. All beautifully packed with plenty of filling and light, crispy exterior. What next.... Curries! OHHHHH....oooooo...their curries are SO GOOD! I really love a mutton, but my friend favors poultry and seafood, so this day in May, we ordered the Shrimp Coconut Curry. FABULOUS!!!! AND PLENTIFUL!!!! I have also had Mutton Curry, Lamb Vindaloo, boneless Chicken Korma and the Goat in Coconut Curry - my personal fave. Since I'm talking curry, I'll remind you you'll want some bread with those curries. My favorite naan here are Onion Kulcha, Keema(lamb), and the awesome Peshwari (stuffed raisins, almonds, cashews, cherries and coconut). HowEV-ER - the GARLIC CHEESE NAAN is an ABSOLUTE MUST!!! I'm drooling just thinking about it.... Moving on toooo...TANDORI! if you like lamb, the rack her is TOO DELICIOUS to pass up! With a group? Get the mixed tandoori and everyone can taste a little something. Actually, it's a great appetizer for a group and a great way to introduce friends to Indian herbs and cooking methods. Honorable mentions go to: Saag Paneer(it's always near and dear, that Saag Paneer!), Paneer Masala, Daal Tudka, Papadum(add Mango Chutney, of course!), Rice Pellow(a saffron rice) and Mango Lassi to tame some of the spice. I order all my spice dishes "white girl spicy" so the mango lassi was really just a yummy yogurt treat. The restaurant is large, beautifully decorated with traditional and modern Indian music videos playing on hanging TVs and well cared for. The staff is always friendly, inviting, courteous and helpful. They keep their eyes moving to watch and see who needs anything, but also allow privacy and a no need to rush your meal feeling. The food presentation is lovely and I always feel like they are proud and enthusiastic to help guide me through dishes I'm not so familiar with. This area of the harbor is pretty quiet, serves a lot of people who live close by and walk, so the parking lot is large, mostly empty and free. Go. Enjoy. See why "we" won't want others to know about our fab little secret. Cheers! "CC"

The "Taste of Punjab", in Moorpark, was an over 20-mile one way trip for me from the SFV. If you…read morelike North Indian food, it is my opinion that the state of Punjab in India (and I have spent time there), provides food preparations that are a notch above the rest of its Indian state counterparts (e.g. Uttarkhand, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh). So I called the restaurant to fine tune. Their lunch buffet was only on Fridays. The spread would only contain 3 meat selections, all of them chicken (really, no variety?) and only 3 vegetable choices (really, is that all?) Then an appetizer, salad components and condiments. There would be rice and Naan too. A meager set of choices for a $15.99 buffet? Yet, the restaurant was enticing. Hence the pull, to taste their version, of Punjabi food. That sealed the deal for me and I was on my way to pay a visit, and eat. As expected, the choices were limited. There was chicken tikka, chicken tandoori and chicken curry. For vegetables, aloo bhegan (potatoes and eggplant), peas paneer (peas with sautéed Indian cheese cubes) and dahl (lentil curry). The Naan was not brought fresh table-side, but delivered to the hot case. Still, it was soft and wonderful, actually well executed, had good chew, cut into medium sized pieces. Rice came out in small portions in a bowl and was not dry (unlike other buffets). For appetizers, they had one choice, good sized samosas with a thin wrapping (also unlike other buffets) and a simple ,but very tasty and moist potato filling. They were truly fantastic (I had 4 of them, a first for me!). That too, came out, as needed. Like it should be. For me, this is also a sign of thoughtful food management, to provide just prepared items, to enhance freshness, cut down on wastage. On the condiment side though, there were disappointments. The tamarind chutney was watery and their mint chutney thick, and from a bottle. Not fresh. Raita was creamy, with body and wholesome. What was striking at the Taste of Punjab, was the unmistakable high quality and culinary prowess of the chef(s). Every dish oozed with freshness, aroma, rich flavor and an intoxicating blend of well married spices and taste. The three chicken dishes were tender, with soft meat having a perfect texture to satisfy. Overall, every selection on the buffet was unique because, it felt and tasted so different. High class, is the best way to describe it. I was really amazed and blown away. Was also pleased, that my relentless hunger, curiosity and the lengthy drive here to Moorpark, had borne sweet fruit. It was a reward. Definitely, a Punjabi lunch buffet to remember, for a very long time.

Food is great. Staff so friendly. Highly recommend. Nice to have a great spot like this in Moorpark.read more
