**Review based on Delivery orders** This place serves my favorite khao soi in Ventura county! I always get excited when I find khao soi on the menu because you don't see it too often. It's a Northern Thai curry noodle soup dish. I appreciate the packaging for delivery. The noodles and condiments are separate from the coconut curry soup. It's not too spicy if you order it mild. And I usually choose pork as my protein. Always tasty, flavorful, rich and consistent! There's been a couple times where the dish was either too spicy or not spicy at all. However will still continue to fulfill my khao soi craving by ordering it from this place. read more

This is the second time this place has made my family sick after discovering they didn't follow the allergy instructions provided. When we asked for a refund or new food that was allergen safe, they did nothing. Any decent restaurant manager or owner would provide some sort of apology or at least remake the food as initially instructed but on both occasions we left sick and wasted money. None of the other restaurants we go to treat people like this so will not be back. read more

I used to regularly get takeout from this place but I will unfortunately not be going back. I ordered the chicken satay two different times and really enjoyed it, even though it's less traditional to have the chunks of chicken rather than flattened pieces. However the next two times I was served undercooked chicken. The first time I felt like the texture was suspicious but didn't think too much of it. The time after that the chicken was not only rubbery and tough, but a BRIGHT pink color that was clearly not cooked on multiple pieces. I called the restaurant and they requested I bring the raw chicken back in, however it was 8pm and pouring rain so I told them that I wasn't interested in driving back. I was able to come in person a couple days later and was given a refund for just the single dish. They were nice about it but I kind of wish they offered to cover the bill (which was quite small) as I did try to eat the chicken before realizing and spitting it out. Really wish I didn't have this issue as I did like their staff and other menu items, but it's a deal breaker for me. read more

This used to be one of our favorite places to go. I have an allergy and they used to have a lot of options. Tonight is the second time we've ordered and clearly communicated the allergy but after eating, noticed there was no note on our reciept of the allergy. When we called, they confirmed the person we spoke to never told the chef and that what I ate was not actually not prepared as the person we spoke to promised. I probably won't be able to function for days. Not sure when this place got so careless. Don't say you are going to tell the chef about the allergy and then do nothing. Only writing the reivew as it's the second time where I've paid 60.00 for food that I have to throw out and they won't even refund the meal. So careless and greedy. read more

We went to their other location but it was being remodeled. The boy loved their chicken satay sticks last time we came at the other location. This location is at the corner of main and chestnut. The boy said the chicken satay sticks are just as good as last time. The sticks had good portions of chicken. The Thai iced tea was served in a cute mason jar and was sweet like most Thai iced teas. We also ordered the tom kha noodle soup. The soup was super thick we are used to it being a bit more watery. The flavor is good maybe a little too sweet. The mango chicken curry was ordered mild and it still had a nice heat to it. It looked like small portion for me but nope I was pleasantly full half way through it. We will be back. read more

I'm a local and ordered take out for the first time with this location; Tom Kha chicken no spice. Very disappointing. The soup description says that it is made with Coconut Milk Lemongrass but they gave me a vegetable base soup base instead. It was also suppose to be no spice, I would hate to find out what spicy would be. My mouth was on fire. Of course b/c it was take out, it wasn't like I could send the order back after getting home. I'm writing this b/c it wasn't cheap either, $23 for a pot of soup. I don't mind spending money but it better be good. I will not be ordering from here again. read more

Really enjoy this place. Food is great but i do wish they had more people working there. We stopped for lunch on the weekend and there were only 2 servers taking care of everyone indoor and outdoor plus the location next door. If you are in a hurry this might not be a great option. Is the food worth the wait? Yes it is. They have great options and the food is flavorful and delicious. We tried the Pad Thai, gyozas, fried calamari and the crying tiger. Everything was delicious! One of the best Thai foods I've ever had!! -The Tom Kha Seafood soup was so delicious and the spice level was perfect. I like my food spicy but not to the point where I'm suffering through it! Ha! There's more mushrooms in the soup than seafood but it's still so yummy, so I would still recommend it. The pineapple rice with chicken was good. You can choose to add shrimp or just veggies if you prefer. The portion was so large, which was great because we ordered different things so we could share. The crying tiger beef was also delicious! It was tender and flavorful. My son loved it! It came with a spicy dipping sauce, apple salad and a small portion of white rice. That in itself is a whole meal! The service was fantastic! Ant was our server and from the minute we walked in she was so helped. She was on top everything! Even before we can ask for anything she was already there on step ahead of us! Large Order Success!! As the office manager for a company in downtown Ventura, I place large lunch orders on a regular basis. My experience ordering from Rice by Mama 2 was perfection! I ordered 13 different meals and 3 appetizers. Everything was labeled correctly according to the note I added to the "special instructions" section listed on each item. Their online ordering platform (Blizzfull.com) also includes a feature that allows you to place the order in advance which comes in very handy if we want to pick up our order shortly after they open. I have been here twice now and had a good experience both times. If someone wants Thai, I take them here. The papaya salad is fresh and tasty, the curry is flavorful, the larb was delicious, too. What I like best is their Thai tea, because I get a chice of coconut milk and I absolutely LOVE that. No other place has ever asked me if I want coconut milk. Service is fine, I paid more attention to who I was there with and the conversation rather than how quickly the servers came. I don't like being rushed, so I don't mind if the servers take their time. Ambiance is alright, kind of bistro style inside, I like it more outside on the patio, because it's tucked away from the street. I'm a pretty happy customer and will definitely be back. read more

Got the lunch special. The yellow curry was okay it had a weird aftertaste. The salad also had a weird taste and didn't taste fresh either some lettuce having weird black stuff. They gave the same sweet chili for the egg roll to use as dressing for the salad. They should have a separate dressing like balsamic. The egg roll also tasted off and the tom yum soup had whole bamboo shoots that took over. Too expensive for the quality. Server was nice. read more

I had Pad Woon Sen, and it had fresh ingredients and was really good-- if a bit (but not objectionably) sweet in flavor. I ordered it HOT and it was spiced that way, nicely. There's a wide variety of dishes, some for omnivores and a healthy number of vegetarian alternatives. I was surprised that there were only a few fish dishes, but the appetizers looked good. The prices are on the higher side but they seem a good value. Expect to pay $20+ per meal, a non-alcoholic drink included. Service was fine. read more

*FOOD QUALITY* Best Thai food I've had hands-down. The ingredients were super fresh, the portions were plentiful for two people ordering, and the flavors were abundant. Green Curry Fried Rice - Wow. Got this to share between myself and one other person and it was enough for both of us AND we had leftovers. The shrimp is a reasonable size and every ingredient was cooked so well - loved the longer grain of rice they used and the flavor was spicy but not overly so (we got spice level 2). If you want more, they provide a spice rack. The eggplant is a spiffy touch - it was cooked very well and great at balancing out spicy bites. Green beans, bell peppers, and fried eggs paired alongside the other flavors culminated into a savory, thrilling experience. Super! Mango Sticky Rice - I've been on the hunt for a great mango sticky rice, this is it y'all. The mango was just the right sweetness, ripeness, and juiciness at a nice cool temperature that nicely juxtaposed the steaming sticky rice next to it. The sticky rice is green, assuming it's pandan, and the texture was amazing! I'm someone who loves mochi, so to find this rice with a specific grainy sweetness but also a gummy bounce sparked a lot of joy. The coconut dressing with sprinkling of sesame seeds was also not overpowering - coming from someone who despises coconut - I was very happy with this dish! *CUSTOMER SERVICE* Loved my servers! One was understanding when I got scared about a wasp that was climbing the window that my arm was next to, and got rid of it right away. The other made a great recommendation on the spice levels (with a fair warning about how intense they could be). Super friendly and welcoming. *AMBIANCE* This joint lies along a cute street lined with thrift shops in downtown Ventura. There is plentiful outdoor seating (a must during beautiful SoCal summer days) as well as seating in doors. The mural and the large windows give the place an open feel which I liked! I believe Thai-pop was playing over the speakers and the TV had a show about street market foods, which all created a ~vibe~. I parking in one of the free lots a couple blocks down and walked to the restaurant. Interestingly, Rice by Mama 1 is literally a block down from this one. Went in there with great expectations and was completely disappointed. The food was so heavily condimented that it felt like they poured an entire 5 lb bag of salt. It was so bad that I had to literally drink glass after glass of water. It was very difficult to enjoy at all. The Tom Kah soup was bad, it was a combination of super salty and super sweet at the same time. Never tasted anything like this and I've had Thai from MANY restaurants through out LA. Just couldn't do it The drunken chow mein was so super heavily condimented that I just couldn't do it. I kept looking around thinking to myself how the heck can these people eat here? I was honestly even thinking of trying the other sister restaurants in the same vicinity (by mama), I think they are owned by the same owner?, but now I'm hesitant. So I ordered togo through their website, which they recommend and also much appreciate since third party delivery companies charge them extra fee and stuff. The food was nicely packed with extra hot sauce and homemade sauce togo. The egg rolls were so good, perfect size for finger food and the dipping sauce was bomb. The drunken noodles are the must, perfect seasoning, authentic Thai flavors. The noodles are chewy, soft enough but still hold texture. The pad thai is also good. The fish sauce could be too overwhelming for people who are not familiar withThai food, but it's perfect for my taste bud. Definitely will order again! read more
