I love me some Kabab House! By far my favorite Indian restaurant in town and one of my go-to places for some fantastic comfort food. If you're feeling up for something a bit on the heavy side like Butter Chicken or Tikka Masala, you will not be disappointed. The flavor is excellent and the food will warm your soul. This place has the most authentic Indian food I've ever had! Because we had our student IDs, we both got naan bread AND basmati rice: no charge! I have dined in here and had take-out on many occasions. The flavors are very good and remind me of my beloved Curry In a Hurry in NYC. Keep in mind that this type of food is supposed to be eaten with your hands. As unAmerican as this may seem, it is the truth. The recent opening of the two separate Kabob Houses is really going to cause other, more expensive eateries, to worry. And rightfully so, because the quality and price are a great value. This is a restaurant that is best for take-out. Unless you want to eat out of to-go containers with plastic silverware inside of the restaurant. It is better to take the food home and dish it out on real tableware with solid utensils for a more pleasant experience. I do not know what other reviewers are talking about, because Kabob House is very inexpensive in comparison with other restaurants with the same quality food. You can choose from a small or large portion, which often cuts the price in half. The small is still enough food to serve two with the naan and/or rice that it comes with. For example, the Chicken Tikka Masala from here is stellar and not thickened with flour, you can taste the actual sour yogurt that is used and the meat is tender and has an excellent grilled flavor. Yet it is only $11.99 for a large, and the large is enough for four people seriously. If I were to go to any other restaurant and order this dish, it would be at least $13.95 for what Kabob House serves as a small ($8.99). It is a great value for the quality of food and flavor. The Samosa ($2.99) came with three wrapped pastries, that were small but equal the price you pay for it. I enjoyed the Mango Lassi ($2.99), which came in a large Styrofoam cup with ice. The flavor was tart, fruity, and to the point with no other additives- it simply tasted like yogurt and fresh mango. Very tasty compared to some of the Lassi that I have had in the past that were bland and often come poured pre-made from a gallon jug. The Kheer ($4.99) was pricey and super-sweet, so I will stick with the Lassi next time. The Channa Daal (small $6.49 w/ naan) was at least three cups of tasty lentils and cream, just slightly thicker than a daal soup. The Gobi Aloo (small $6.99 w/ naan) was one of my favorite seasoned potato and cauliflower dishes, that is large enough for two meals. The creamy and tangy flavor of the Mixed Vegetable Korma (small $6.99 w/ naan) is definitely something I would repeat again. And, don't forget the amazing Chicken Tikka Masala. I do not think that the Kabob's are actually a good deal, unless you get the wrap meal. I went to the new Kabab House this past weekend, and I was suitably impressed. The menu is the same, as well as the help, but the new location is really nice... a lot nicer than where they used to be (particularly now, since it is just a gravel lot after the demolition). I ordered a curry dish with a drink, then sat down by the window and watched traffic for a couple of minutes while it was being made. They brought out the food and I tucked right in. Great stuff! Not all that spicy, and they don't appear to ask how spicy I would like it, but it does have a mild kick to it that is nice. The flavor is quite good, and works well with the rice. If it's your first time, I highly recommend the chicken tikka masala! You can get it with basmati rice or naan bread. Both options are good! There was a good amount of chicken and the sauce had a great consistency for dipping the delicious naan in. The entree came with 4 pieces of naan and a big bowl of basmati rice which tasted great! I liked the food a lot and judging by the number of people there for the lunch buffet, it's definitely worth stopping by to satisfy that indian food craving. This is my third time ever having middle eastern food, and I have to say I am impressed. My first recommendation is to try something other than chicken, you can get chicken anywhere. My boyfriend and I ordered the goat kadhai and the lamb korma with rice and naan. Their naan is FRESH! The goat was tender, both meat sauces where so good, I'd eat it with my bare hands. SERVED ME RAW CHICKEN. Made me violently ill, threw up. First time going, got butter chicken and garlic naan. Garlic naan was good, but after having some butter chicken I immediately got a stomach ache. I got my stuff to go and left, went home, and promptly threw it all up. Felt absolutely terrible. I have recently discovered my love for Indian food these past couple of months and Kabab House is my go-to restaurant when I'm craving a good chicken tikka masala dish! The location of this restaurant is in an awkward spot that does not offer very good parking because it is in a strip mall and on the way to downtown so the options are the limited spaces behind the restaurant or street parking. I usually park behind the restaurant, if I can find a spot. However this does not really deter me because I usually get takeout. There is usually no long wait and when I call to order, it's ready in about 10-15 minutes, which is not bad at all. I always get the chicken tikka masala with basmati rice and an extra side of garlic naan! It is not a cheap meal (Indian food in general is not super cheap), but a very tasteful meal! You get a decent amount of chicken doused in tasty sauce and a bowl of basmati rice. My extra side of garlic naan is hot and delicious - it is great to dip into the sauce from the chicken! Everything needed seasoning but once we added a little salt we got them to where we wanted. The vindaloo was definitely spicy so if you're sensitive you might want to stay away. Honestly, I don't know how this place got a 4.4 starts reviews!!?? And when I was there I saw plaques for best restaurants award in 2019, 2020 and 2022? Maybe I have high expectations but for his was way below expectation!!! The food was horrible, the ladies bathroom was disgusting and dirty. It was also so pricey for a fast food looking restaurant were you have to order your food at the counter, pay at the counter and get plastic plates in a plastic tray (lol a food court style) and then you have to dispose of plates yourself in a trash that was full and the tray lid was nasty with food that was stuck to it!!! Would never recommend! I am only giving one star because that is the minimum! Oh! Also, even with all the bad experience, I was trying to leave tip and the girl at the register said "if you want to leave tip then it has to be in cash!" I've been to Kabab House a few times, the most recent being a day ago. Food & Service: I ordered the Chicken Tikka Boti Kabab. Very average dish in my opinion especially because I paid about $10 for it. The flavor was good but it was a little dry and somewhat burned on the edges. The green sauce (can't remember exactly what it was) was quite yummy though. Rice was fine but not as enjoyable without a saucer entree like tikka masala. I've had their naan before and it was okay. They gave me salad to go with the meal (not sure if that's traditional or not) but it was basically just filler veggies. Service was friendly, atmosphere easily forgotten. Final Thoughts: I'll probably only come here if I am desperately craving Indian food near campus. In my opinion, you're just not getting enough bang for your buck. It's not a bad restaurant, but I'm willing to spend a little more at Indian Cuisine or even Andaz. I don't eat Indian food often, so when I do, I'd rather go all in. read more

Turns out Gainesville is pretty quiet over the summer and places are slow/have more limited hours. I originally wanted to try a different place a block or two away but it was closed for this reason. Not wanting to have a heavy meal, we stopped here figuring we could grab a bite before a full day of dance workshops nearby. I ordered a kebab wrap and my friend got some plate that had hummus, a salad, naan, and some grapeleaves. Initially we thought we would eat in because half of our order was cold (i.e. not needing much prep) and the other half was simple. Twenty minutes later we asked to change our dine-in to a to-go order for fear of running late. When we paid, I asked the girl if she could break my $20 (My meal was under $10) and she said she wasn't sure she had change. How is that even possible? After waiting some more in their dining room (it's terribly uninviting and sterile... felt like it was one of those places people -only- do to-go orders from), we were finally handed our bags. Right as my friend grabbed hers, the roof leak dripped on her bag (there were plastic bins all over the counter catching water), but thankfully everything was wrapped up tightly. So we opened our bags and looking at it, I was visually underwhelmed. Yeah my wrap was a decent size, but the lettuce was old iceberg, and the rest of the veggies looked kind of funky. The salad on my friend's dish was old iceberg, and her bit of tomato was mostly the inedible center. We decided it was a lost cause. Overall my sandwich was okay. Nothing terrible, but not great either. The meat and bread were good, but the veggies could have been fresher for sure. It did take a fairly long time to get our food, and I don't think this is really a dine-in kind of place. I just hope it's only because it's the slow season in town. read more

Came because of the Chicken Tikka Masala reviews and it didn't disappoint. We walked in and our senses were lovingly welcomed by fresh tandoori filling the air, great start. Leanne (sp?) greeted us at the counter and it seemed like her soul's desire was to make our experience at this restaurant the best it could possibly be, she is a HUGE asset to this restaurant and I hope her employers realize it. As far as ambience, sadly a 2/5. Typical fast food Uni style take out place with a few mismatched tables thrown in. Cost? It is true it is v. expensive but as previously reported the portions are larger than normal - HOWEVER the main negative is the rice isn't included if you get Naan and should you choose Garlic Naan, there's an additional up charge for that too. Also I have to say for these prices which are more than a regular restaurant, it seems overly cheap to eat on polystyrene plates & cups with plastic flatware and be served in plastic take out tubs. Overall it was worth it as you can definitely get a few meals out of the large size but the odd thing was the masala was more like a traditionally British Indian's Masala compared to US Indian's Masala - more on the tomato side compared to the spice side. It is also mild by regular Indian standards so if you like reg hot go with Extra Spicy. If you like 'Indian hot' you may be out of luck. read more
