If you're looking for some good Indian take out - definitely stop by Mint Indian. This restaurant is located near Waffle House on Newberry Road but can be tricky to get into depending on the direction you're coming from. When walking in, they had some old school Bollywood music videos. My order was taking quickly and I waited for about 10 minutes for my order. Once I got home, the food was still piping hot. I ordered the chana masala, which comes with basmati rice, and an order of samosas. The samosas were perfectly cooked and seasoned. They had a hint of spice but tolerable. The two sauces - tamarind and chutney were so good with the samosas. I wish I ordered more. The chana masala was very tasty, I went with medium heat since it was first time eating here. The spice was really good, I could've went hotter though. The masala was buttery and delightful. I could've drank the sauce it was that good. The chickpeas were cooked perfectly as well. The flavor profile of the dish was tangy but creamy. I wish I had some chicken tikka to throw in there. Absolutely delish! This hole-in-the-wall mom and pop restaurant serves food that is authentic and bursting with a variety of spices that delight the tastebuds. We ordered Gobi Manchurian (garlicky, spicy goodness), Palak Paneer, and Malai Kofta, all excellent. I did not feel bloated the way I do after some heavy curries at other Indian restaurants. The food was very good! I got the Gobi Manchurian, Samosas and Palak Paneer. Everything was delicious and very well seasoned. If you do not like spicy you might ask if there can be less of it. I wouldn't call these dishes hot but they had a nice spicy heat to them that lingered. The samosas were served with tamarind and mint sauces. The Paneer was served with a side of rice that was perfectly cooked. The gobi manchurian held up to the sauce which had a good amount of heat. I picked up this order to go. The restaurant itself is nothing fancy, it's the typical hole in the wall that serves amazing food!! They have a few tables. When I got my order home it was very well wrapped. What a circus. It's 2:45pm and this tiny place is packed. It's noisy and super tight. Thankfully we are past Covid. The prices are high. And we were charged even higher prices than the menu displays. I can't imagine how that is legal. It certainly isn't ethical. Holy kids here all screaming, Food came out quickly. You order at the counter (if you can find a menu) then they bring it out quickly. The food was very very good and we love that they're vegetarian. Food is served in plastic :(. Plates are styrofoam, forks and spoons are plastic. Cups are plastic. Service was attentive and very very friendly! The parking lot is quite small. The prices not matching menus is a pet peeve so they lost at least a star for that. I tried Mint years ago pre-pandemic when they first opened and they were very good then, the portion sizes were just a bit on the small side. Tried them for lunch today and was impressed. Solid portion sizes and great flavor! Decided on one entree and appetizers. Got the mixed veggie korma which was formidably spicy but delicious. The dish had that glistening of a rich, homestyle meal. The samosas were still a bit spicy but great, and the pakora were also good but just a little overdone. Garlic naan nicely accompanied the entree as did the fluffy basmati rice. The masala maggi was interesting! I'm pretty sure the noodles are the kind you'd find in packets of ramen from the supermarket, but thankfully no trace of the super-salty base. Instead there were veggies mixed in with a rich, slightly sweet sauce and topped with a bit of cilantro. This was a delightful dish and reminded me of a long-gone local bookstore on 13th St that had a little vegan cafe and among their offerings was "plumber's pasta" consisting of cooked store bought ramen noodles chilled and dressed with oil, vinegar, scallions, and other stuff. Certainly Mint's is a far better use of cheap noodles! Raita was fresh and delicious and helped quench the flames of the korma blazing in my mouth. Their cilantro chutney and what seemed like a sweet possibly onion-based chutney were both delicious, the cilantro one being hot as a strong jalapeno or so. However, Indian Cuisine across town has a bit of an upper hand in that department, both because they offer their chutneys as separate sides rather than just 1oz or so small containers included with the dishes. Only a couple of things I didn't care for is their location. That's not their fault, of course, but unfortunately the city planners ages ago made some poor decisions making the general area a slow-going nightmare during rush hour. Their online menu, though, is on the cheap. I wasn't deterred by not knowing much of the Indian language, nor by just the proper names of the dishes presented with no photos (just the restaurant logo) and no descriptions prompting me to look each up to figure out what I wanted. To that end, I'd strongly advise phoning in your order given the menu provider charges some $7 per online order for credit card transactions. I'm a pretty patient person but I have no doubt others might be put off by not having that info front and center as they browse the menu. Hopefully they'll consider changing to another service to manage their menu and at least do the bare minimum that 99% of other restaurants I've ordered online from have used. Overall a great experience! Will definitely be back, likely with a cheat sheet or a native Indian-speaking friend to help me figure out what to get. read more

Authentic? Sadly, not at all. Tried the Gobi Manchurian and the Pani Puri and both were very different from other restaurants that I've eaten at, whether that be fine dining Indian establishments or street food in India. The Gobi Manchurian almost tasted like it had a sweet and sour sauce on it, and the Pani Puri had a puri that were not very light and airy, but were particularly hard. On top of that, they gave a mixture of daal (lentils) in a sauce, where as the usual pani puri has a dry mix of potatoes, lentils. The green sauce (the "pani" of the dish) is usually tart and spicy, and this one sadly didn't meet the spice level that I was looking for at all. I wish I was less disappointed in this place - I was really looking forward to some good Indian food in the Gainesville area. Guess I will continue to make the trek down to Ocala when I need to scratch the itch. Visit was 11/22/23. I ordered the chana masala, which while not bad it wasn't very notable -- the flavoring was a bit bland. I ordered 3 naan; 2 garlic, 1 plain. The garlic were both burnt and the plain was cooked to toughness but not burnt. The rice was also a bit disappointing as it was just rice; every other Indian restaurant usually puts some flavoring in the rice such as saffron or peas, but never just rice. My daughters liked the samosas although they noted they were on the small side. I did not have one. I am not likely to come back as I've since been told there are several other restaurants in the area that are better and also not limited to vegan dishes. We love this place. I like their food better than the ones I get from Amrit palace in Ocala where everyone who loves Indian food is raving about. The food is always fresh and you can see the fresh ingredients he keeps in the fridge. And, I see them cutting up the onions and preparing all the fresh ingredients every time I walk in there. Nothing made out of frozen bags of things tossed into a fryer. I saw them rolling up some delicious-looking thing and had to try it once I found out it was called Aloo Tikka -- it's a fried potato fritter or something that's delicious! I usually get Aloo Gobi from there and it is very unique how it is done. It is usually an almost dry dish but here it comes in a very tasty creamy broth. There is so much sauce that I can add more air-fried cauliflower and potatoes at home after I picked through more than half of the cauliflower and potatoes in the dish. I can get another entire meal out of leftovers that way, when I order large size. My husband stole my leftovers yesterday by adding broccoli instead for him to take to work for lunch. Also, their okra dish is delicious as well. Dry rubbed and tasty:) You can tell that he takes it seriously. The place gets busy so call ahead. I have been wanting to try this place for years, well when it was vegan to go..then vegan to galokka and then a handful of other names lol. They did change the name quite a few times this past year and it made me skeptical. But I always had my eye on it. I was disappointed when I went in and now under the name Mint Indian Cuisine That there was no vegan candy bars or any other really vegan treats besides what's on the menu. I tried to have an open mind for the new place. I was the only person in there and I told the girl at the counter I had never been there and wasn't really familiar with Indian dishes so I was having a hard time finding what to order. I basically begged her for a recommendation of a dish because when I asked about the menu she said everything was good... one of my favorite answers whenever I'm asking about a menu... give me a run down of popular dishes and describe what they are like. It's not like everyone going in there in going to have had Indian food before. She was nice..but shy and wasn't helpful when it came to ordering. One thing I can say needs improvement is service and "furniture". The actual restaurant itself didn't feel like a restaurant it felt more like pickup only. The tables are ones that you would use for an event. The tables outside are what I would have rather eat at. They were hard to sit down because they are trying to get 2 rectangular tables with fold down chairs in a tiny spot. Instead of making a couple booths or actual tables, it's not like 8 people are coming in here to eat all at once, as I mentioned I was the only person in there and this was during the lunch hour. On a positive note, The food was wonderful. I'm glad I took a shot in the dark with what I ordered. I saw someone's picture on yelp and ordered it. I will definitely come back for food again but I'm gunna do some research on their menu so I can figure out something new to try. Hopefully they spruce up their interior and give tips to the cashier so that she can explain the menu a little better and be a little more helpful. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal here. It is vegetarian, but you won't miss the meat. I am a very standard chicken makhani go-to gal (most are pretty good) but today I was made to stretch(no chicken)...they have Paneer Makhani on the menu BUT we didn't want two paneer dishes soooo we asked if they could do Mixed Veg Makhani...thankfully they obliged and it was sooo delicious. The makhani sauce was beautiful! The Palak Paneer Matar was also excellent...it will be hard to order just 2 dishes next time bc we will want to try new things BUT these were sooo good! We also ordered a Garlic Naan and a plain one...both great! If you can believe it, there are naans in town I won't eat...I won't disclose where. Side note, there is seating inside but it was a beautiful afternoon so we ate outside. The outdoor seating was fine for us but is smaller sized. Also, if you are particular about dinnerware (sometimes I am), then opt for takeout and use your own...they have simple foam plates and plastic forks, at least if you dine outside anyway. Lastly their menu does NOT distinguish lunch from dinner per se...instead it has two size options: regular or large. read more

We were so very disappointed after reading great reviews. We ordered saag paneer, samosa chaat, and a fancy spicy basmati rice (with veggies). The chaat was okay but not great. The saag was liquid runny and like heavy cream with only a bit of spinach taste and the spicy special rice was honestly too salty to eat and we threw it out. (And I like salty food!) Also ordered a millet flatbread that was dense and totally tasteless. We miss Andaz but love Tikka Express... and adore a Indian Street Food. The Mint try-out was a sad waste of money. read more

I seriously felt robbed by this place. They advertised the large vegetable biryani for 14 bucks and the portion they gave me is barely a medium. It's a veg biryani so I seriously expected some more rice and they packed it in a very small box which is less than the smallest Chinese takeout place. To top it off they didn't even bother filling the box completely. I thought the large would be okay for 2 people but seriously this is clearly for one. BTW the taste ain't so good as well. You know the food is going to be authentic when the tablecloths are flimsy vinyl and everything is disposable. I'm not an expert on Indian food or its authenticity, but judging from the other reviews, it seems like Mint meets the bar! The menu is completely vegetarian and so flavorful. The whole (relatively small) space smells of spices. I wasn't familiar with many of the dishes, but my server was helpful in offering suggestions. I got the dosa, which was stuffed with potatoes and vegetables. It came with soup and a coconut dipping sauce which was not too sweet and maintained the integrity of the coconut taste. I also got a mango lassi, which I would recommend getting without ice because the drink was a little diluted by the end. Can't wait to go back! read more

There is FINALLY an Indian restaurant in Gainesville that I can recommend to my friends. This is a fantastic place where the food tastes like it was home cooked and is very flavorful without being heavy like it is at the other places in town. The menu has a remarkable number of items (all vegetarian), many of which are traditional dishes not served in restaurants in Gainesville or even around the country.
