Looking for a place to grab coffee and a quick breakfast before college move in, I found Kaffee House. I was their first customer of the morning and was treated with warmth and patience. I ordered coffee and two iced chai lattes. While they made those, I looked at their pastry case. I ordered strudel, chocolate croissants, and a pastrami sandwich (for the teenager). My iced chai was perfection. Not too sweet, and not too gingery. The chocolate croissant was unlike any I've had before. A braid of plain and chocolate dough with chocolate in the middle - which was almost pudding like. Absolutely unique and I'll be coming back for more. The strudel was also great. There was just enough dough to hold the filling which was fabulous - apples cooked perfectly, spices and again, not too sweet. My son is here 4 years and after finding this cafe, I know where I'll be getting breakfast. They also have a drive thru! read more

I've driven by this place every day this month on my way to the hospital and have been intrigued by its little drive-thru window. I finally decided to stop by today (I actually went inside because I needed to use the bathroom). I'll admit, when I first walked in, my expectations dropped a bit based on the overall vibe. It just didn't give "you're about to have a really good espresso" if you know what I mean. Then I took my first sip and was immediately reminded not to judge a book by its cover. The espresso was smooth, bold, and really well-balanced. The pistachio flavor was noticeable without being overpowering, and the pastry was delicious too. Definitely underwhelming. Ourselves and 2 other couples we observed all had poor experiences, where one person received their food while the other person waited. The portions were small for the price and the taste forgettable. $5 for a cup of hot water and a tea bag was also excessive. My tea was decent, service was good (he had a few suggestions I didn't take him up on) and the iced coffee was run of the mill. Happened to spot this place while stopped for a red light. Cute cafe with free parking behind the building! Food was reasonably priced and tasty! The menu is pretty small but they have good choices and do breakfast all day. This is an order at the counter place where they deliver the food to your table. The man working the counter was probably the owner or her son. He was friendly and helpful. I'm surprised this place wasn't packed as it was a nice little find in an expensive town with poor parking in the summer. Oh! Don't miss the homemade pastries like their apple strudel! Finally made it to Kaffe House after hearing about it for quite some time. The location is a bit off the beaten path from downtown Saratoga, but they have a drive through window and a decent sized parking lot for easy in/out access. It's in a building with other businesses, so follow the signs if entering from the rear parking lot. Entrance from the outside is directly into the "Kaffee". I'm assuming a lot of the business here comes from the large medical building just down the road (which is where I had been), Empire State College and the many new apartments nearby. The woman behind the counter with the fabulous German accent was really friendly and helpful. We happened to go at an off time, so it wasn't too busy yet. I was leaning towards a carb-laden bagel sandwich, but changed my mind to the bowl of the vegan carrot ginger soup. (Soup specials change daily) Absolutely delicious! Just the right balance of ginger with a creaminess that left me full and satisfied. The spinach quiche got solid reviews. The iced teas were a bit smaller than I expected...and since we were staying for our meal, perhaps a regular glass (instead of plastic) would make more sense. There's lots of seating and there's a nice, chill vibe in there. Food was served fresh and piping hot. Baked goods looked great. Definitely recommend. read more

The selections here are always top notch. Even a regular cup of coffee tastes fresh and hits the spot at 11am. Expect prices slightly higher than any fast food chain. I'm happy to as the quality is excellent. Fresh homemade bread for an egg sandwich was a welcomed surprise. I appreciate the fresh fruit/veggies provided on the side added to my sandwich order. They have some gluten free options, as well as a no sugar added cookie available. The pastries are amazing too. I went to this place to grab coffee with my husband since we didn't want to go near Broadway In Saratoga. The women behind the counter was very friendly and answered all of our questions regarding some of the pastries. They all looked amazing! We sat down to enjoy our coffee and pastries and realized they were very delicious! German pastries! Apple strudel and an apple turn over. I could have ate sooo many more. We decided that since everything was so good that maybe we should try a bagel. My husband went to order the bagel and the young man helped him and asked if we needed a refill on our coffee. The bagel was tasty, but pretty light. Definitely not like ny style bagels. So if you are picky and want NY style bagels, this is not the place for you. Loved the ambiance and interior until I was approached by an employee (I believe it may have been the owner) only 10 minutes after sitting down at my laptop and aggressively told the cafe was for customers only and she pays the bills and points at my Stanley cup attacking me saying it looks like I'm not a customer, etc. the funny thing is I was planning to get a coffee but wasn't even given ample time to get acclimated. Very bad customer service and not the way to enforce business. Don't get me wrong, I completely understand that they don't want freeloaders but give them more than 10 mins to order, and don't aggressively jump down their throat and get combative when the person is innocently minding their business! read more

A really nice place to go for light fare and meeting with people. It's not a place to go if you're looking for a big meal, or a rousing and exciting time. There is a calmness and serenity here that can't be found at a downtown establishment. There is a private parking lot in the back. The entrance road to the parking lot is narrow and not obvious, so keep your eyes open. It is on the south side of the building. There is also a drive-through window. There is a private room in the back that you can rent for small meetings (12 or fewer) people. You order and pay at the counter. They will bring your food out to you. Service has always been friendly. The menu is pastries, desserts, salads, soup, sandwiches. The food can be considered German in style. Everything I have had there has been tasty and high-quality. Not a great place to go if you're really hungry looking for a big meal. Perfect if you're looking for something light. I really like the Kaffee House because its atmosphere. Not a lot of commotion. People having quiet conversations or enjoying being alone in a peaceful environment. If you want to meet somebody and have a conversation, this is a great choice. read more

The lunch menu offered daily soup selections, sandwiches, salads and pastries. Our choice quickly included bratwurst and potato soup after realizing the restaurant's German-based selections. This is my absolute favorite place for coffee, pastry and/or lunch. Such a pretty place with a fire place and comfy chairs, high top and low top tables for eating and chatting with friends or getting some work done. There's even a meeting room that you can rent. The cafe is bright and crazy clean. The food is all made to order -soups and salads are amazing. The pastries are fresh and delicious, made on premises and there are always some delightful German surprises that you won't be able to pass up. The coffee here is awesome. Bring a book or bring a friend. You don't want to miss this place. I sooo want to see this delightful coffee shop survive as it fills a niche on the west side of Saratoga Springs. However, the young fellow behind the counter (owners's son?) has a bad attitude. I came here today to order coffee and dessert while conducting business on my phone. I thought it would be the perfect atmosphere. In fact, I was here last week and the week prior meeting colleagues and patronizing the coffee shop. The music was very (!) loud when I entered. Now, I'm a rock 'n roller from way back so when I write that it was loud, it was VERY loud. I asked the young fellow who took my order if he could turn it down just a bit and he said ... no joke ... "no, I like it like this". Excuse me? Someone needs to explain to him that if a customer finds the volume of music uncomfortable- which it is as I sit here - he should tone it down without question. These three stars mean just what Yelp suggests they do, that this place is A-Ok. I've noticed a certain grade inflation in my reviews, so I'm trying to give myself a wider range. Everything is fine here, it's just that nothing stood out to me. I came here with my father for brunch. He got the Belgian Waffles. I didn't try them, but they looked and smelled great. My bacon-egg-and-cheese on an everything bagel tasted fine, although the bagel wasn't quite as chewy as I like. But with an extra dollar for the bacon, and another for the bagel, it came to $8.49, which is ridiculous. The plate was garnished with some orange slices, lettuce and shredded carrots, which was a nice touch. Many prices are on the high side, and you can get better values at the coffee places on Broadway. My coffee was also fine, but nothing to write home about. I'll come back at some point to try the soups, which aren't sold on Sunday, and a Germanic entree like the meatballs and potato salad, which sounds tempting. And a pastry. The Guy Behind the Counter, who has gotten some attention in these reviews, was also fine. No fake cheeriness, and perhaps not enthralled with being behind the counter, but he answered my sometimes foolish questions without giving me an attitude, so there's that. If he'd been a bit more outgoing he might have inspired me to try the pastries, as I saw nothing in the counter that screamed "eat me!" Aside from a return visit to try a few more items, I'm not sure if I'll be coming back. I wouldn't avoid this place, but I wouldn't go out of my way, either. I had a bizarro experience there. First of all I went there during a heat wave w/90 degree plus temps for several days - but the A/C was not on. It was stifling in there so I asked them to turn it on and they insisted it was on. No it wasn't. I ordered an egg sausage and cheese sandwich - the menu said it came with choice of bread but they charged me extra for the bread bringing my egg sandwich to over $11 with tax. Ummm holy cow. On plus side it was presented well with a tiny fruit salad garnish and I appreciate a place that has self serve ice water. From the food list on the wall signs you would have no idea what a delectable plate of food you are about to receive. I ordered the turkey sandwich with very little enthusiasm. It arrived grilled with melted cheese, two layers of pesto, a layer of apple slices, and was mouthwatering. On the side of the plate was edible garnishes of small romaine lettuce leaves with diced red and yellow peppers, and a fanned display of apple slices. The wall only said: turkey sandwich. I was blown away by what I actually got. They make a hot chocolate where they actually grate the chocolate from a chocolate bar and melt it into the milk. Yum. read more

What a treat! This is not just another coffee house in Saratoga. When you walk in you will be surprised by the creative unique interior design. It is European Contemporary, not at all what you'd expect for Saratoga. There are 5 different sections to the Kaffee House, even a library if a small group needs a place for a meeting. The fireplace area is very reminicent of a coffee house in a European ski lodge. Now about the food. It is all home made from old family German recipies. My girlfriend and I just had a great lunch with Mark at Kaffee House! The service was friendly and fast! The coffee had a great flavor and the decor is so artistic!
