Dr. Kagan performed my PRK surgery and I cannot recommend him more highly. He is incredibly skilled and knowledgeable, my sight is incredible and the recovery was manageable because of his and his team's excellent care and instructions. Don't make my mistake! Dr. Kagan makes first impression as a great doctor, very confident, speaks scientific terms, assertive etc. But it's very misleading. Example: I came to see Dr. Kagan for one specific reason - to get a prescription for my new glasses. Dr. Kagan examined my eyes and gave me his prescription, which I used to order my new glasses at Costco. Order was completed, I got my new glasses! I was surprised when it turned out that I see worse with my new glasses than old ones! I contacted the office of Dr. Kagan and asked if I can come to follow up appointment and if Dr. Kagan can give his expert opinion regarding the new glasses (maybe Costco guys made a mistake or something). "Yes, you can come" they answered me in the Dr Kagan office. So, when I came, Dr. Kagan's assistant asked what's wrong with the glasses. I say, I see with new glasses worse than with my old ones. She takes my glasses, goes to talk to the doctor and comes after half a minute, saying that I need to go to Costco and solve the issue there. I ask, what, Dr. Kagan can't give his professional opinion about what's wrong with the glasses?? "No, he cannot" - the assistant goes...Ok, I go to Costco to get a new prescription and Costco doctor says that the prescription I got from Dr Kagan is wrong! What a surprise! I knew that already, but Dr Kagan is so arrogant that can't accept his own mistake. Moreover, his arrogance and narcissism go up so much that he can't even talk to his patient and discuss their problems! No, what for?? He is too busy. Now, I want to ask you one simple question. If he can make mistakes with the prescription for glasses which is a 6-10 numbers so to speak, can he make a mistake with the surgical procedures that he does regularly? I believe these operations require many more numbers. Can he make errors there? I think you know the answer. Yes, he can. Do you want a doctor that not only can make a mistake where he deals with your precious organ but doesn't even want to accept his mistake?! No, you don't want this doctor! A big NO. I could not have asked for a better experience with The Kagan Institute. I had a particularly painful and stubborn stye in my eye that would not go away. Dr Kagan not only explained to me why other treatments weren't working, but he explained every step of the way what needed to be done and walked me through my treatment procedure with compassion and full transparency. I just came in for my two week follow up, and the affected area is fully healed and looks as good as new. There is a risk of scarring with the procedure I'd gotten but luckily Dr Kagan is a total magician and my face remains scar-free. Would NOT recommend getting a stye in your eye but WOULD recommend The Kagan Institute to treat it if you happen to get one. Called about 5 different ophthalmologists trying to find someone who will remove the stye, they all wanted a ridiculous amount just to see the problem. Called Kagan institute and they said send us pictures and we'll tell you if we can help you. Sent them the pictures and they called me the next day, gave me a price and they got me in that same day. This stye has been bothering me for months, no one wanted to bother with it and I tried "home remedies" and the thing would not go away. I was getting self conscious about it but thanks to Kagan Institute, my eye looks normal again! Pictures show before removal of stye, you can see how big it is. The same day as removal, the next day, 1 week out and 3 weeks out. And I asked if they had pics or videos of them removing it that they could send me and they did! Dr. Kagan and his staff are amazing! I had been looking in to having corrective eye surgery since my 20s but was always hesitant and afraid. I am a long time glasses/contact lens wearer since 11 years old. In 2018, at the age of 43, my eyes all of the sudden rejected contact lenses. Every time I put them in they would get red and swollen, so after a year of having to wear glasses only, I went searching. I could not be more satisfied with the results of my CK procedure at the Kagan Institute. Dr Kagan was very thorough in explaining the procedure and what I could expect after it was completed. Immediately following the procedure, I was able to see and read items up close after having to wear readers to read menus, books and the screens on my phone and laptop for over 10 years, since I was in my late-40s. It has now been two months since the procedure and my near vision is as intact as it was when my vision was still perfect. I found Arkady online. I got an eye infection that caused excruciating pain in my left eye. I couldn't open my eye. I couldn't see. I couldn't drive. It was horrible. I went to Arkady and he quickly prescribed antibiotics that helped the infection disappear within 24 hours. He explained to me that the infection was caused by a scratch from my contact. I visited LensCrafters for an new pair of prescription sunglasses, and learned I needed cataract surgery. I had heard of it, but I did not know what cataract surgery was. LensCrafters provided a reference to a local surgeon. But I am very squeamish and protective about my eyes. So I began a thorough research effort to find the best possible surgeon. I learned that there are over 400 doctors practicing cataract surgery in the LA metro area. After reading the reviews, I picked two out of the top 5 to visit. Dr. Kagan, who was ranked #1, had the first opening, so I met him in October. His staff is very impressive, very professional and very polite. I was very impressed with his facilities and equipment in both offices, but most impressed by Dr. Kagan. He did a thorough summary of my results, explaining where I fit on the spectrum, the procedure he recommended, the process, and the post surgery. All my questions were answered completely and in layman's language. I felt so comfortable that I canceled my appointment with the second surgeon. I am very glad I selected Dr. Kagan. I was the squirming "patient from hell" during the surgery, and that did not slow the process or interrupt Dr. Kagan as he operated on my eyes quickly, efficiently, and pain-free. He scheduled an office visit for the day after surgery, and a follow up two weeks later. When I did experience some discomfort a week after surgery, my phone call was returned by Dr. Kagan within 1 hour despite his full schedule. Update: I was happy to be able to read without glasses but in exchange I lost my far vision. 1 year later my vision returned to the state it was before the surgery. Thank God I can see far again. The improvement of vision is only temporary. Now I am wearing reading glasses again. I can't afford another surgery and I am not quite sure if reading without glasses is worth losing my farsight. The most high tech, modern, state of the art equipment to get rid of crepey skin! I had some bothersome sun damage on my thighs and above my knees, and endured many painful and costly procedures with other doctors to little avail. But then the wonderful Dr Kagan recommended Embrace RF Morpheus 8--a super new and FDA approved radio frequency devise for skin tightening. I did the procedure and I'm so happy! Dr. Kagan was probably the worst doctors experience I have ever had. Dr. Kagan's office had very poor parking, extremely long wait times and in the end he gave me an incorrect prescription that resulted in me spending extra money on eye drops and not being able to comfortably and effectively wear contacts. I went in for my second visit with Dr. Kagan. I arrived early for my appointment, after waiting about 20 minutes in the lobby, they called my name and brought me into an exam room in the back. I sat in that room for about 30 minutes waiting for the Doctor. If the doctor had just been busy with other patients I would have understood however this was not the case. Dr. Kagan and his female staff were standing in the next room chatting at lengthy about the musical artist Sade. I agree Sade is an excellent artist and I'm sure her concert was a great experience but don't talk about it within earshot when you have a patient waiting for you in the other room. After waiting for about 30 minutes Dr. Kagan finally came in the room and one of the first things he did was give me a flyer and asked me to review him on yelp... seriously? Ok, here is your review. In addition to the waiting, the major problem was with his diagnosis and prescription. I went to see Dr. Kagan because I wanted to get contacts as I was tired of wearing glasses. On my first to Dr. Kagan, he prescribed me a specific brand of contacts and said that these would be the best fit for me. I wore the contacts for a while noticed that I had major problems with them, the contacts would get cloudy and blurry and I couldn't see well. I reported all this to him on my second visit and he said that I had "very dry eyes" and the only solution to this to start using Systane balance eye drops. These are special "lubricated eye drops" that cost $19.00 per bottle. The problem was not only did his "solution" require I continuously purchase and use expensive eye drops, but the specific version of Systane he recommended were the most expensive ones they made. He insisted that I use Systane Balance only as these as they were the most "effective" and cautioned me not to use visine or any generic regular drops because they would actually dry out my eyes even further. Needless to say I went to another Ophthalmologist to get a second opinion. This new doctor informed me that the problem was I was using the wrong brand of contacts and that it was actually bad for me to continue to use these expensive eyedrops because it prevented my eyes releasing natural tears as I become reliant on the eye drops. This new ophthalmologist prescribed me a different brand and now I am happily wearing contacts without any issue and no longer paying $19.00 and having to carry around extra eye drops. Do not go see this doctor, there are many other Ophthalmologists out there that are much better. And also do not let them have your email address, they will continue to send you newsletter spam and try to add you as a friend on facebook. read more

Did NOT like this place. I came here a year ago to get a second opinion on whether or not it's safe for me to do Laser Eye Surgery (PRK) for a second time. I felt like the doctor did not even care to help, and was just trying to sell me things. He asked me to write a yelp review, gave me a flyer/pamphlet for their services - even though I clearly was no longer using glasses or contacts. Then he told me what HE would have done for me with the first surgery, if I had come to him. Clearly, it's pointless to talk about the past - I already got the surgery. Why would you try and make me feel bad and tell me what I SHOULD have done? Then he said, "but it's like glass that's shattered - it's too late, you can't put it back." Gee, thanks. I would NOT have gotten the implantable contact surgery that he suggested anyway. As if this is not bad enough, he starts asking me questions about my other doctor that I did the surgery with - how much he charged, if they do payment plans, and if he would charge me full price again for the second surgery. I was SO uncomfortable with him asking this, but I was too nice and answered anyway. When he found out my other doctor sold me lifetime surgery insurance (so I wouldn't have to pay again), he turned to his nurse, and said, "That's so smart. We should do that here." WOW, really?? I didn't come here to help you beat your competitors. This is my vision. I came for help. He also asked how I found them, I said I searched in Google. He asked me "What words exactly did you type?" Are you kidding me?? We spent 95% of the time on dumb questions like these, to help his business, and 5% on my actual eyes and my concern for a second surgery. I then went to Dougherty Laser Vision - MUCH better. Dr. Ryan Vida was kind and smart, and talked me about my eyes 100% of the time. He even tested how thick my corneas were to see if was safe to do surgery again, and explained to me on the picture what everything means, and what to ask my doctor and make sure he does.
