Located a few minute's drive past Ko Olina, across from the Hawaiian Electric Kahe Point Power Plant (hence the "Electric Beach or E-Beach" nicknames), and before Tracks surf site, E-Beach is a relatively shallow and newbie friendly dive site. Lots of dive shops and instructors use E-Beach as part of their scuba training. It gets busy and crowded with a mix of beach goers, snorkelers, swimmers, free divers, and scuba divers. E-Beach has a great mix of big critters and macro creatures. Hawaiian Monk Seals, Manta Rays, Honus, and Dolphins mixed with nudibranches, sea slugs, and mantis shrimps! Kahe Beach also called Electric Beach. We arrived at 8am with snorkeling gear. There were a few people, but not a lot on a Monday morning. The beach is narrow and the tides are strong, so swimming here is not for new swimmers. There are lifeguards watching/supervising. But i would still go if you have swimming experience. There are a lot of marine life further down past the walls. Be careful of the jaggedly sharp rocks on the bottom, so wear water shoes. Be patient when swimming back to the beach. The waters are strong so coming back may take time/energy. This place has plenty of parking spots. They have a public bathroom and shower. read more

Snorkeling here was a magical experience. It was one of those very special moments that had us "oohing" and "aahing" over the magnificent beauty to behold in Hawaii. I've been wanting to snorkel here for years but always held off because I thought it was too hard or too far off. The good news is recently, my husband bought me a pair of Da Fins precisely for adventures like this, so we were finally armed and ready for Electric Beach! We came here and parked on the side of the road right outside of the beach park. There seemed to be ample parking. You could tell most people are there to dive - you'll see lots of scuba divers, snorkelers and spear fishermen/women. That's how you know there is good sea life to see! We geared up and walked down to the shore to assess the situation. It appeared most people were about 200 feet out where the pipe from the Electric Plant jets out into the ocean and creates warm water, which attracts ample sea life. Before swimming out, you have to get past where the waves break. Luckily on the day we went, the water was pretty calm. We had to wait in between sets to swim out past the roughly 3-foot waves and get "into the clear." With fins and the right timing, it's very doable. Swimming out to the pipe is an adventure in itself. Almost immediately, you're greeted by fish. The further you swim, the more magnificent the coral garden sprawls. There are so many fish of all types! Then, we saw two sea turtles casually swimming below us! A little further on, we saw an eel swimming on the sand some 30-40 feet below us. Once we got near the pipe, the sealife was everywhere. I felt like we were in Finding Nemo. There were schools of fish and most of them were swarming near where the warm water comes out of the pipe. Because of the current, it was hard to swim in that direction, but we got close and enjoyed the nice underwater views. On the way back in around 30 minutes later, we watched some other sea turtles feeding on the reef. It was an incredible experience. We started to get a little tired after that and wanted to save our energy for swimming back to shore. The swim back was easy, as we caught a few waves into the sandy shore. You have to watch out for a little bit of reef/rock coming in, but it's relatively easy. Overall, this is a highly recommended snorkeling/diving experience. Great little beach near Kapolei. Plenty of parking and enough room to exercise, surf, paddle, swim, and explore along the beach without disturbing other patrons. Unique features include several old WWII mutually supporting defensive fighting positions (crew served) strung along the high water mark. Built of steel reinforced concrete, some of the original 1942 defensive barriers still remain for the history buff to investigate. More intriguing was the discovery of old lava rock with what may be encapsulated sea snails from the last volcanic eruption. At surf's interface with the rocks, small tide pools reveal tiny fish and tiny white translucent sand crabs no bigger than a pencil eraser. All in all, a pleasant little Leeward side beach. So much beach! So much parking!!! Today the family packed up the car and headed west to the beach! So glad I made the suggestion this morning to the hubby. I told him the north shore doesn't look as promising weather wise, so let's give the west side a chance. The hubby agreed and off we went! This beach is massive... I almost want to leave a bad review so it doesn't get over crowded! Lots of space for my family and just an awesome time. We spent a while in the water getting battered by the swells I don't reccomend letting the little ones go in alone, but the waves were pretty awesome! I am beyond grateful that I can pack up my car in February and go to the beach! read more

A cool little, unassuming beach on the West side of Oahu that holds a unique secret. This small beach and parking lot look like many others that dot the landscape on any of the Hawaiian islands, but it's across from a power plant and the plant's warm water discharge is underwater about 200 yards out from the beach. This warm water attracts fish and makes for some cool underwater pictures and video. The 2 outlets are about 15-20ft wide and about 30ft under water. Expect to see coral, various fish and eels, plus turtles. Small breaking waves at the beach make it perfect for body/Boogie boarding. The parking lot is small, but ample for the number of visitors (few). Building with bathrooms and outdoor fresh water rinse facilities. Beach is a short couple min walk from the parking lot. read more

Aka electric beach located just before the Power Plant on the West Side of Oahu. One of the best snorkeling spots on the island. Plenty of parking but you should arrive early. If the lot is full, you can park just outside the park. Recommend dont leave stuff that can be stolen in your car, cars have been known to be broken into. It is nice location because mostly locals come here and not too many tourists and does not get over crowded. The beach has plenty of shade, showers and decent restrooms so you can clean up after snorkeling. If snorkeling or diving the entry can sometimes be challenging so check the tides, once you get past the surge you will be fine. Put your gear on quick and get in the water. Lots to see when snorkeling or diving here. Almost guaranteed to see turtles and lots and lots of fish. If you go early, you might see dolphins and some Ray's. If you like underwater photography this is the location for you so bring your camera. read more

Sister and I went in the morning to snorkel but it was way too windy and the waves were very strong. It was to the point where the sand was flying into us like bullets. We had life jackets because we wanted to swim pretty far in, but we gave up after the group coming out of the water told us we should not go in. That being said, the view was very nice and we even saw dolphins at around 7:20AM! read more

Now my fav snorkeling place on Oahu. Been going here now for a few months. Great water clarity, lots of turtles, some rays, and the occasional dolphins (yep, swam with them a couple times last month!). While many people go out to the pipes, where's there's a lot of fish and warm water, the best snorkeling here is along the reef to the left of the beach/water entry point. Nice healthy reef with lots of fish, honu, eels, and at least one starfish :-) And generally when the dolphins are around they seem to hang out about 300 yards out from shore about 200 yards south of the pipes. And ... as near to a guarantee to see turtles as you can get. I have yet to not see at least one honu while snorkeling here. read more

One of the best places to go snorkeling hands down! Some days it is rough and others it's easy and flat! But it is almost always sunny on this side of the island! If you go out far enough there are pipes the blow out bubbles and that somehow attracts fish? It's pretty awesome. I'd recommend having a long pair of fins (not the regular snorkel kind), this will help with moving swiftly and faster in water without getting extremely exhausted. Also, should prob be a strong swimming. There are no life guards at this location. Make sure to go out with a buddy and come back with one too. The ocean has a mind of its own and we should all respect and use precautions! Also, do not leave value in eyes view in cars!! Tourist beware. This place has all kinds of fish! The water is mostly clear, there is debris, but it will pass after you get out farther into the ocean. A water camera/GoPro is always awesome to capture moments! Have fun and be safe! read more

Take the warnings seriously... this CAN be a difficult and potentially dangerous area for snorkeling. If the waves are large, make sure that you wait for a break to get out. When it's the right time, swim quickly and pay attention to your surroundings. When people suggest that you are an experienced swimmer and snorkeler, it is because of the difficulty of getting to the amazing snorkeling area. Once you get there, it becomes calm and so worth it. We went with a group that had been to this area many times, which I would suggest. We came on a day with large waves and strong currents and there were many people who were unable to get past the waves and gave up. That is where the experience comes in handy. There is so much to see here. The fish and wildlife that you see here puts the other well-known snorkel spots in Oahu to shame. Turtles, rays, thousands of fish. So worth it. read more

Amazing! The views of the water were spectacular! The snorkeling was incredible. The water was clear, as other reviewers said, due to the power plant. I could see so far and so much. There were tons of fish and coral. The current was strong so you should be a strong swimmer and not fearful of the water. Going out was easy. Coming back in was a little harder but if you're a swimmer, you shouldn't have too much a problem. Let the waves bring you in. I didn't have fins, which would have made this easier I'm sure. I was told I may see spinner dolphins and white tip sharks but I unfortunately didn't see either. Maybe next time! Definitely worth checking out! read more

Boy has this place changed!!! Kahe Point aka Electric Beach used to be a very shady place to go and was a place Dog the Bounty Hunter would go to find his "fugitives." What a difference a few years makes! The place is cleaner than it's ever been, no overfilled trash cans and the stench of urine and trash is all but history. We stopped by today and found a varied mix of people there - tourists, military, locals, snorkelers and divers. It's a popular place to snorkel and a great beach dive spot. To the right of Kahe Point the waves were up and there were quite a few surfers and body boarders too. This has always been a favorite snorkeling spot - just look in the distance and you will see boat tours taking tourists to snorkel. Coming from the beach side it takes a bit of effort to get past the waves to snorkel. The areas beyond the waves is teeming with colorful fish and turtles. If snorkeling or diving is not your thing, to the left of the beach area there is a trail that hugs the coast where you can see tons of people fishing. Also, there is a huge covered "cabana" wherein you can have a party (I'm not sure if that requires a permit or if it's first come first served). The bathroom has been cleaned up as well but I for one, do not use public bathrooms (especially at the beach)(i'll hold it until I can get to a McDonalds or something). Although this place has cleaned up a lot I still wouldn't let my guard down. Secure your valuables before you park and always have situational awareness. read more

This beach is absolutely wonderful! It is tucked away 30 minutes up northwest coast of Honolulu, Oahu. What makes this beach special is the abundant sea life that is available due to the "power plant" being close by and releasing warm water and bubbles. If you come snorkeling here you need to have a buddy with you because there is no life guard and it takes a good chunk of energy to swim out past the waves to see some action. I'd also recommend some long flippers to help you move quickly. If you get lucky you will see some dolphins and sea turtles so have a water camera ready to take a perfect shot. The beach park does offer a shower for rinsing, bathrooms and a big parking lot. Busses do pass and stop here. The sand is soft and the waves are nice for surfing and boogie boarding. read more

A truly beautiful beach on the western side of Oahu - it is absolutely well-worth your time. You've got the opportunity to see some bigger waves here - some much larger than other more-frequented spots on the Island. The sand is spongy and fun to walk through - great for kids and adults alike. Dog friendly, a great place to bring the whole family and take in the awesome views. Parking is ok - not the worst, not the best. If you're able to, visit on a weekday - much less-crowded! read more

One of my favorite spots because it's so beautiful and open. Lots of wonderful sand and clear water. Beware of the keawe thorns and the bathrooms aren't stocked so bring your own toilet paper, but it's nice that there are bathrooms available and outdoor showers. It's not a great beach for babies since the waves can get a bit rough. But if you have kids that can swim and are over 5, it's a great spot to boogie board and body surf. Dogs also love it here and everyone seems pretty dog friendly. Another bonus is if it's raining all over the island, it's most likely sunny here. Side note: lock your cars. read more

This was by far the best place I snorkeled while on the island of Oahu!! I bought a dive map at an ABC store, brand Franko's Dive map. I think you can find them online at www.frankosmaps.com . Anyhow, I had been to the Northshore, Waikiki, Ala Moana already in the week. Friday morning it was too windy and rough to go out on the eastern coast, so I tried the "electric reef" over south of Waianae and just north of Ko Olina. I am SO glad I took the chance even though this side of the island is where the sharks like to hang out. But it is also the side of the island that all the snorkeling and swim with the dolphin boat trips take you. So I got to this little beach, and put on my gear and jumped right in and swam out to the boats and the other snorkelers, WOW! All the fish, clarity, turtles, it was amazing! It was also early in the morning, the best time to go...Let me also point out that I did it for FREE, while all those other idiots probably paid at least $50 to go out on the boat and do it. I spent about 2 hours hanging out there, some other divers were there, and snorkelers off the beach so I wasn't completely alone, which was good becuase you shouldn't snorkel alone. Case in point, 2 Asain couples showed up, and one of the girls started to freak out not even that far out from the beach, basically I helped pull her back to shore, she was too weak to fight the wind to get back into shore...there was no major current except once you get near the shore. But anyhow, it was AMAZING! Go check it out, but be aware the commune of bums living in tents in the area...I almost got bit by one of their pet pitpulls, luckily it was chained up! read more

Kahe Point Beach Park - One of the boat snorkel tours - Parks Near Me - Kapolei, Hawaii

One of O'ahu's hidden gems, home to local snorkelers, frequented by a few dive outfits, and some tours offshore. Depths are around 10ft with little to no shallow coral, but on a sunny calm day, can be perfect for a beach BBQ and snorkeling excursions! While the lack of crowds add to what makes this a special spot, it also makes it hard to find. It's on Kahe Point near the Ewa - Waianae boundary, across from the Heco plant. From town / Waikiki, take the left turn lane before the plant and cross over the train tracks. There's plenty of parking and is safe...please kokua and pickup after yourselves! If you aren't a strong swimmer (i.e. you were not on swim team), don't go out in rough water. Some of the roughest snorkeling days I've experienced have been here. There's also no lifeguard here - if this worries you, it's best to stay out of the water completely. There's another beach up the coast that may better suit you. Lunchtime in the summer is your best bet, swells are calm and it's nearly always hot and sunny Waianae side. There's limited beachfront, best bet for BBQ'ing is under the gathering area...a good choice particularly for those who get burnt easily. The water is teeming with life, and while less then destinations like Hanauma Bay, makes up for it with the lack of crowds and an area the majority of tourists (and even many locals) never see. People who are able to free-dive, want to see a new spot, and am plenty comfortable in the water will enjoy this the most. read more

In my opinion it's a toss-up whether this or Shark's Cove is the best snorkeling on Oahu. Pros for this spot are how clear the water is and the sheer amount of fish you see in the pipe area. Even though the pipe area has the most fish I thought the reef area to left side of where you enter had the most variety of things to see and colorful coral. Also saw a manta ray here the first time I went which was a real treat. The only con I can think of is just getting in can be chore for the inexperienced because of the shore break. read more

My family comes here to fish and watch the sunset. This place always has parking whenever we come, usually around 5pm and later. It is quiet here; and the sound of the waves splashing is very relaxing. We don't always catch a fish here so I am not recommending this place for fishing, but the view is well worth the wait and drive. You have to be careful when standing or sitting at the edge because it is a pretty high fall. There is a restroom nearby, but we haven't used the facility so you might want to check other reviews for that. (Or i'll update my review whenever I do get the chance to check the restroom out myself. ) read more

The best place to snorkel. I've seen more here than any other part of the beach (except Hanauma Beach). It looks shady at first since it's a small beach and there's some giant concrete barrier that stops the beach from expanding but once you go out there's a ton of coral reefs with a high population of fish. I've seen dolphins and turtles here if you go far out. Pretty rad read more

My recommendations would be start small at hanauma bay, then sharks cove, then here. Parking: After you pass the Aulani disney resort on the highway, keep to your left and the first left turn before the power plant is where you want to park. There is limited parking and when it fills up, most people park on the side of the free way. I did this for 6 hours one weekend and my car was fine. Just be smart, and be safe about it. Getting to the Beach: You walk past the port-a-pottys and the under construction gazebo area and right after the showers you walk down some rocks to a small sandy beachy type area. As many have said no, this is not your typical beach. There are no food trucks in the area, there is that one port a potty and its in a strange location. Plan ahead and bring lots of water, snacks and sunscreen. I think its a prime spot for tanning and snorkeling even with the highway and power-plant behind you, its not picturesque but thats not what you should be here for! You're here to swim! Before you decide to get in: decide who is going to partner up, Never snorkel alone--and watch the waves. Take note of where they are coming in and also look into the distance for the disturbance in the water -- that is where you will be headed. The waves can get to a decent size as they break on the shore. But usually after a couple minutes it will settle down and then start up again. Get your gear on and then wait for a the calm and swim out, if you're not as lucky, just swim under the waves and just past the wall and breaks, you will be fine as the water is typically very calm and flat. The depth of the water goes easily from 5 feet jumping to 10-15-20-30 and maybe even 40 at some spots with no coral. However, the plus side is that you truly do feel like you're swimming in a fish tank. The water is usually crystal clear and the visibility is spectacular. As you swim out, try to swim to the right and follow the coral out. Once in the water you should be able to see bubbles and the disturbance clearer now. If you're not an great swimmer try not to pass the rock wall as the current is relatively strong and can keep you in one place for some time. You will know the pipe when you see it, it will be bustling with aquatic life. The current is a little stronger here as well. If you get lucky, you will be able to see more than just fish. We have been blessed to see 2 pods of dolphins, 2 monk seals, and turtles! The warm clear water is prime for this animals. Please just remember to respect all the animals you encounter, look, but do not touch. Do not get close enough to disrupt what they are doing. We are just visitors in their home. When you are trying to go back in, make sure you have your parter with you. When you are facing the beach and the electric plant, make sure you are to the right of the wall this time. Swimming directly in front of it will have you fighting the current. The waves can get bigger upon entry but relax and let them take you in. Don't forget to clean up and leave the beach as you found it! This place is less crowded than others on the island. Weekdays are obviously better than weekends,but even on the days when all the tourists are there and the boats are dropping off snorkelers its still a prime spot and you're not bumping in to people. I snorkeled Hanauma Bay, Shark's Cove - but Kahe Point was my favorite (and the least crowded). Kahe Point was pretty easy to find and has convenient (free) parking. There's a relatively small beach to the right (facing the ocean). I hadn't really paid much attention on how to find the pipes ahead of time - I figure it would be pretty obvious but I got in wrong. We swam off the beach to the left - this leads to a nice reef with lots of fish. We ended up exploring this reef before heading back in to get our bearings for the pipe. From shore you can see some turbulence in the water caused by the water from the pipe - we swam towards the turbulence, but again we got it wrong - we swam too far to the left again - the turbulence is actually quite a bit further than the opening of the pipe (and isn't very fun to swim in). We eventually found the opening. I think the easiest way to get there is to swim out from the beach and swim to the right until you're in front of the sea wall. From there continue out - you should be able to find and follow the pipe pretty easily this way. The opening of the pipe was pretty fantastic - hundreds of fish of all sorts. There were more fish here than I had seen at Shark's Cove or Hanauma Bay. The water near the pipes is nice and warm - moving away from this area can be pretty cold! read more

The best snorkeling spot in Oahu! Electric Beach is my new favorite snorkeling spot. It never fails to amaze with it's abundant fish and sea life. The last time I was there with a visiting friend, we saw about ~300 fish and 3 sea turtles of varying size, including one young sea turtle near the shore. One time, we even saw a spotted eagle ray! Unfortunately, we didn't have a camera with us that time. Keep in mind, this snorkeling spot is not for beginners, you have to swim pretty far out to get to the end of the electric pipe where the warm water pours out into the ocean, which the fish love! Also, a part of me wonders if that warm water is actually clean and chemical free as it's supposed to be...??? The amazing ocean bottom view overrides my fears though. Sometimes there are pretty big sized shore waves, making it difficult to swim past and out to the snorkeling areas too. Always bring a friend just to be safe and keep your wits about you. I've heard there are sometimes shark, dolphin, and monk seal sightings, but I yet to witness any of these. Recommend at least intermediate swimmers/snorkelers skill set. I consider myself a below average swimmer, but a decent snorkeler with cheap short fins. And I don't have too much problems swimming out there. However, my friend that came with me had a panic attack her first time trying to swim out here and she's a better swimmer than I. So it's all relative. The beach itself is rather small but usually not too crowded. Most people are there to snorkel or dive anyway. Although, I saw a lone surfer there too. There is a shower and bathroom area. The parking lot is decent sized and usually has available parking spots. Unofficial "Overflow parking" is on the dirt next to the rail tracks. The park is fairly clean but still stinky. Occasional bum or riff raff wanders through too so make sure to lock your valuables hidden away in your car trunk or whatever. No break-ins yet, but I see plenty of glass on the parking lot floor. I think this placed is cleaned up and safer than it used to be though. Especially, now that it's busier. I just hope it dosn't get TOO busy and then touristy. There are usually families on the beach and sometimes tour boats or fishing boats in the water. There is no lifeguard tower or personnel on duty. However, the last couple times I've gone here, there was a lifeguard truck pulled up and a lifeguard scouting the beach. One of them even had a drone he used to scout the water with. Make sure you don't litter. This is such a beautiful area to snorkel, let's keep it that way! read more

This beach is also known as Electric Beach b/c of the power plant across the road. A line from the plant discharges hot, clean water into the ocean and it creates a lot of bubbles which fish love, you if you can find where this pipe ends, there's always a ton of fish there. Its about 100 feet out. This is a great snorkel spot unlike others that get super crowded. Though I will say there was a scuba class, about 8 other individual snorkelers, and a spear fisherman while we were there. More crowded than I expected. The waves are strong getting into the water so proceed with caution. The rocks aren't sharp but they are slippery. We saw some dolphins off in the distance while we were snorkeling, and a ton of great fish, but no turtles. (we went on a wed am around 10). Be respectful of the sea life and other swimmers while you are there. read more

I've snorkeled a few spots on the Island, and this was by far the best place I went. When we parked I saw a bunch of dolphins breaking the surface, and swam out to that area and saw a pod of over 30 dolphins playing around. It was definitely the best snorkeling experience I've had since I love dolphins. The area with the pipe was also pretty rad, the water was super warm and there were thousands of fish in the area. I didn't sea any sea turtles unfortunately, but it was still an amazing experience. My only complaints are: the parking area doesn't feel like a very safe place to park my car for an extended period of time, and there are too many boats circling around not paying attention to anyone outside of the idiots that paid to be taken out there. This dive site is a very nice spot for divers of all skill levels. Beginners can stay in the shallows (3-10ft) while more experienced individuals can venture to the warm water pipe from the adjacent power plant or go to the reefs on the south end that have many caves and crevices for exploring. The biodiversity here is top notch, many different fish species and if you are more of an invert guy like me, there are plenty if inverts if you look hard enough. Every now and then there will be dolphins but be careful as they are in much deeper water. The facilities have greatly improved over the years and now they have a working bathroom and even a nice are to have bbqs. The only reason why I am giving 4 out of 5 stars is because the area is not the safest area for two reasons: 1) the parking lot is horrible. It seems that every time that I go there are broken car windows. It has never happened to me thankfully. 2) it is a beginner spot for free diving spear fisherman as well. So be careful! read more

Great place to go snorkeling. The water is very rough and the good snorkeling is roughly 200-300 yards out. This is not a kid friendly beach. I was very fortunate to see a Monk Seal while snorkeling, which was both incredible and terrifying lol. I also saw a Honu about 300 yards, but was quickly swarmed by the snorkel guides boats with 30+ snorkelers that were extremely pushy and rude to get a look. Also, with the strong waters, larger fins are recommended (but not needed as the ones I used were the normal size). Enjoy and make sure to go out with a partner. I really enjoyed myself while trying to snorkel in this area. The waves are pretty intense trying to get in and out, and the break is harsh, but once you're out it's spectacular. While out I was expecting to see a little more variety, and while there were a good number of fish, I felt there could have been more. I really wanted to see a sea turtle, but I was not that lucky. The water was a little murky, but I chalk that up to a bad day. Don't get me wrong, it was beautiful being out there, and if you are into snorkeling go check it out. FYI, we did not have any problems with people lurking around our stuff or our car. read more

Of the beaches I have been to the view was pretty solid. However, your ability to get out to the waves or to snorkel did not seem ideal. Location was across from electric company. There was one spot next to a canal that had decent waves but it was a tight fit. Meaning there wasn't much elbow room. Good part, was there were showers, bathrooms etc. if you are driving it's worth popping in and enjoying the view. Everything else keep on moving. read more

This beach was right off a busy road so it wasn't pleasant to hang out there. There were a bunch of snorkel and dive boats which seems like an easier way to get out past the waves. We did get to see whales breaching so that made it worth the stop. read more

This spot is great! I came to lay out and enjoy the sun. Although the sandy beach is small, there is room for everyone. Most people were snorkeling or boogeyboarding. The waves were pretty big but some were swimming with their toddlers. I liked the ample parking and shower station! read more
