We're staying nearby while we wait for our new home to open up and our dog really needed a good place to stretch his legs. This was the place! Plenty of room to let him off the leash away from the street and far from people who might be bothered. He had a giant section all to himself. It has been two years since a review has been done on this park by my friend, and fellow yelper, Victoria A. I figured it'll be me to do this justice with another review, 2 years after her's. For me and mine, this is our favorite park. On the hot summer days when you just want to stay inside the house and you don't want to go to the beach because you've been there lots and getting burnt, but want to feel the cool winds we come to Kapolei Community Park. It's a good size parking lot and we usually just drive right in. However, sometimes it can get full when there are young sports going on. Street parking is available. You can also park across the street at the library and walk over. Looking at the park from the parking lot, the restroom facilities are small but adequate and should be infront of you or to your left. To the farther right is the children's playground. To the left of the restrooms you'll find a sidewalk path that will take you further back into the park. To the left of this path is several shady trees giving cover to well maintained, soft grass. This is where we like to place our big mat. Here I can easily take a nap letting the cool breeze lull me to sleep. For some reason, most times than not, there is a good strong wind blowing through here. It might have something to do with the buildings in the area and the hills. Whatever the reason, i'm able to relax. Once my short nap is completed. The options are now endless. G will play with his RC monster truck or helicopter, M will read, I may do that too, snack on the goodies we brought, fly kites, play board games, work with G on science projects or do some of his lessons with him, have eating contests, oh yes we do and they're lots of fun even though G always wins. We'll throw ball, play MTG, talk and plan things we want to do, eat some more and just have a fun relaxing day. It's a very big park, with large wide open areas towards the back. You want to be careful if you go way in the back where activities can occur that may not be welcomed. Other than that, I feel very safe there and have come there many times on my own to read or work on projects. The summer is starting to come around the corner, you can find us there on most lazy days. read more

What do I look for in a park? First off, where is the bathroom? Is it generally clean? Is it close to anywhere I'd usually situate myself in? In this case, there is no mistaking where the bathroom is and it is generally stocked with TP (at the time I looked - there WAS TP) and the sinks actually have running water. Always a good idea to bring your napkins just in case as well as bringing some hand sanitizer with you wherever you go (again...my OCD neat-freakness-gotta-be-clean-ness comes out). It's just one of those in-bred kind of things. Second, are there trees? grown trees for shade? Again, not disappointed here - plenty of trees (unfortunately on the outskirts only) and WIDE OPEN SPACES. I absolutely adore sprawling yards upon yards of green, manicured fields! This has got to be one of Kapolei's best kept secret. Seriously, tons of space without encroaching on a neighboring party. I've seen on many occasions party tents and the most elaborate jumper set up here. Parking is not an issue here. Tons of it and if there isn't any in the lot, there is street parking available. It's proximity to retail shops is ideal as well (just in case you need more ice or drinks there is a Safeway across the street as well as 7-11 and area restaurants...and TARGET not even 10 minutes away. Although it's close to shops, once you get to the park - it really feels like you are "away" from it all. Such a luxury to have this much play land! The only thing lacking from this park would be a beach...but then again, it's a PARK for goodness sakes. We're a bit spoiled living on a island thinking that a park MUST have a beach...trust me, this place doesn't disappoint. Comparable to the parks I've been to on the mainland - clean, spacious and just downright beautiful place to come and spend a day in the grass daydreaming. read more

I bring my kid here all the time to play. This is by far the busiest park in Kapolei in the afternoons. It's great interaction for the kids though. Lots of places to sit. Lots of trees for shade on the grass surrounding the playground. The only drawback is the proximity to the street. It's very close to one of the busier streets in town and people travel well over the speed limit, despite it being bookended by the police station. Prettt dangerous if your kid wanders off. No joke, this park is American Ninja Warrior meets The Hunger Games! My four-year old has been begging to go to this park all week and we decided to make a special trip to Kapolei just to visit the playground. PROS: -Ample parking in the lot or on the street. Great if you've got a family or an entire soccer team! -Huge playground with lots of benches. While we were here there was a school group of 100 kids playing on the field and the playground. -Wide open spaces for days. The perfect place to make your kids run in gigantic circles to tire them out before dinner! CONS: -Very limited amounts of shade. The world needs more trees and this park is in desperate need to those as well! The hot sunny weather in Kapolei will suck you dry so make sure you bring lots and lots of ice water. -Playground equipment is not all toddler friendly. This was my biggest gripe about this park because the playground equipment is completely cray cray. My four year old had a tough time navigating a lot of it and I felt many of the structures were too high for a child her age. It was challenging even for my nine-year old daughter who said "It's like climbing on art. I don't want to play on art!" We'll see how we feel on our next visit. My kids absolutely love this park! They ask to go here all the time, although there are several parks in the Ewa beach area, they prefer to come to this one. Maybe it's the bouncy bridge that they run across, or maybe it's the seat the spins you round and round til you get so dizzy cause it just won't stop! Majority of the equipment on this park is intended for children 5 years and up. The reason for this is because some parts are really high up there. Just a year ago, I worried about my youngest because when he follows his siblings they go all the way to the top. Now at 4 years old, he has no fear. The park itself is very huge. There is an abundance of open field that allows the kids to run around and throw a football, or kick a soccer ball, if they get tired of the jungle gym...but what kid get tired of a jungle gym?! On sundays, my son plays flag football for playsports hawaii on this field. There is more than enough space for a great deal of teams to play all at once! Parking is somewhat of an issue. Street parking right in front is best, since its' within walking distance of the park. Otherwise, you can park in the parking lot, further from the jungle gym itself. Restrooms are by the parking lot. Kind of a burden when 1 of 3 kids have to go, cause it is a walk away. If one goes, we all go because 1)I'm not taking another trip 2)I'm not leaving any of my kids by themselves just to take one. Shade is very minimal. Bring your own umbrella for those extra hot days. Benches are scattered all around the area, but bring your own chair just in case. read more

Super location and grass and trees and nice beach. A lot of room, paths and big, lovely trees. Not touristy. Just happy people who like to picnic or just enjoy time with the family. It's location in a beautiful subdivision and there is a crime in the area. Everyone that I saw at the park was happy and I felt a lot of love a Aloha in this community. After a busy and long day at work, it's a good place to relax under a tree or take a nap. The park is big with lots of room to run, play games. Park closes at 10pm so you are able to watch sunsets from here and the leave promptly. read more

I like having picnics at this park! A great location in the Kapolei community! In the past there are carnivals and soccer matches and even a few parties! Don't really need a permit to have a picnic with your family! The bathrooms are decent enough to use. Bring your own TP after mid-afternoon. With the new play ground, it's great for kids of all ages (even kids at heart) to play on. Word of Caution - make sure to have shoes or footwear. The rubber asphalt gets really HOT! There were a few kids crying because their slipper fell off and they had to walk on the hot ground. Also FYI to some parents - the playground is not a babysitter. You still have to watch your child(ren). After helping a few kids get down from the different play sets, I asked where their parents are and some were in their vehicle or talking with other parents. I'm gonna watch your kid because of safety, but it's not my responsibility parents! This parks okay. Moving from california I've found it hard to find a nice park for my kids. I may be jaded or biased or just have unreasonable expectations, but this is a good piece of grassland with very little to get excited about. We went here a couple times with family and couldn't even enjoy it, we had to leave because there was a group of them sleeping on the ground and they had their belongings all around the area like it's their HOUSE! Coming from town, we were in the area and wanted to run the kids around so Yelped parks and this came up. Really fun park with lots of space around it for kids to go nuts. The playground is definitely newer and nicer than the ones in town so my boys had a blast running here and there, jumping, climbing spinning. What's nice is that you can park on the street right in front of the playground so you don't need to schlep your food/cooler/bags if you don't want to. Tips: Being a new park, there isn't much shade here. Luckily, we had a cloudy,windy day so we were very comfortable but when the sun broke through briefly, it was VERY HOT. So, either try to score some of the few trees surrounding the playground or bring your own shade if you plan to stay long. read more

Kapolei is Oahu's second city for many who live and work on the west side of the island. For years, the City and County of Honolulu tried to make Kapolei a secondary location for commercial, industrial, and residential growth, but it seems as if Kapolei remains more residential than urban Honolulu. Once here on a day trip to play Pokemon Go on a recent weekend to Kapolei, the majority of the Kapolei regional park seems to be the premiere green space and park that residents and locals come to Kapolei to enjoy and relax. The space is relatively large and is relatively green for the most part. There is one useable restroom facility here, but I wouldn't use it. Those public toilets seem to get really funky in a heartbeat and normally don't get cleaned as it should be. I did see a few homeless persons drifting around the park during the day, which was a little disappointing, but it's one of Honolulu's growing social issues that needs to be fixed. It's nice to see families, children, and pets use this park. Nice to see the community here in Kapolei take pride in their regional park and know that it's available for anyone. It's nice to run laps around the park's perimeter or run through the grassy areas of the park. Whatever you fancy. Finding your active self here is a blessing or just here to zen meditate can be as self fulfilling as any physical activity. For what it's worth, the park is there whenever you feel the urge to get out of your office cubicle or car and have that space to rewind and relax anytime you decide to. The Kapolei regional park is located across the street from the Kapolei shopping center / Kapolei Marketplace as well as the Kapolei regional library. You can't really miss it, as it's pretty much green open space for y'all to come and enjoy. After a challenging day at the office, coming here versus the local watering hole can be a better choice for clearing your head or releasing stress in your life. You can play an assorted number of activities, as long as it's not illegal. The best part of the Kapolei regional park, as you may know, is that it's definitely free. Free admission, yo! That's particularly awesome and makes me happy, but what public park charges admission anyway? Maybe places on da mainland, but at least not here anyway. There are a number of parking options to choose from, primarily there is a private parking lot for your own convenience. Should that not be the case, you can find other parking spots nearby primarily on street parking and walk on over. If you are like me, TheBus routes Country Express C and route 40 will get you to Kapolei and you just need to walk here from the transit center, which is just a block or so away. Easy peasy, indeed! Many of the playground equipment that's installed here can be for the kid-at-heart adults who want to rekindle their youth, but it's mostly designed for young kids ages 5-10. You just may break something if you aren't careful though. Only thing about this park is that it does not have shade at all to protect yourselves from the hot Hawaiian sun. There are some trees on the grounds, but majority of the park are exposed. Whether you are playing football with friends or soccer as part of an organized league, you will be happy and amazed at all the land that here to help and prepare you in your game. It's definitely a beautiful park that screams "play me". You can put up a few dozen condos in its spot, so the land under the park is fairly big. Plenty of park benches to sit down, but hardly any trees for shade. Feel free to come here anytime to enjoy the community and relax. Make friends too. Beautiful park, lots of open space and a playground. I like to take my daughter here when we're killing time and I guess it's alright. I would give it five stars, but the playground is made for older kids, about 5 and up. My daughter is two so she can't really play on the structures. Just climb up and get stuck,lol. No slides!!! Pfft. I wish they added structures for toddlers. It's okay though, most of the time we just sit on the grass and we'll bring bubbles or something. Anyway, there's lots of parking and benches, but only two tables near the play ground. Also, they need to stop turning on the sprinklers during midday. What a waste. read more

Wide open spaces at Kapolei Regional Park. I've seen some groups play soccer and flag football. When visiting in April 2013, they were working on a brand-new playground set at the time. Good opportunities to walk, jog, and overall, have plenty of fun! Looks like the park is almost always well maintained. read more

I used to love this place. We used to take our now 7 year old to the butterfly garden, and he'd go hunting for bugs and just explore. It's really gone down hill. Now people just loiter in the upper parking area and Who knows what sort of business they're doing. Also I've seen an increase in homeless people. We've seen used condoms and underwear. Yesterday we seen human feces in the grass. Yes human feces!!! I thought it was dog poo, but there were a few pieces of toilet paper next to it. Disgusting! The bench areas closer to the Chinese restaurant has tons of cardboard boxes I assume used as beds by the homeless. It's quite a sad sight this park. read more

This is a really cool park to go to to spend some free time at. There is tons of grass space to go running around and doing whatever your hearts desire to the sound of music. It is a great place to take the kids to and let them use all of their energy for one day. The parking can be limiting depending on when you come over here such as if there is a sports game, community events, family picnics, etc. If the parking gets full there is always street parking right alongside the park. There are two parking lot areas. The park is conveniently located right across from the Kapolei Public Library and it is close to the shopping plaza across the street. If you are going to have a picnic or having one then it is easily accessible to grab some food nearby and restock on some other items. There isn't much table or seating areas in the park so you will have to bring your own sitting material to have seat in.
