Beautiful day for sunbathing and fishing at Barber's Point
    Jennifer H.

On Memorial Day, Ewa beach park was a bit too crowded... everyone still social distanced, but for noon, it only meant more were likely still to arrive... headed to Barber's Point instead... gorgeous alternative with about a dozen families on the entire stretch of beach. It was a beautiful beach to sunbathe and fish at the same time. Another family there ended up catching 3 fish while we watched! Made me wish we brought our poles, haha. We'll be back to make this our go to fishing cove. #barberspointbeach #socialdistancing2020 #hinewnormal

I wanted to check out a few lighthouses during my trip to Oahu and saw Barber's Point recommended by some photography sites. I was coming down from the North Shore via Kapolei and Barber's Point was a short drive away. With industrial sites dotting the road to the beach park, this wasn't the typical path you'd find when approaching the coast. Yes, there seemed to be some encampments in the parking lot, but I went here on my own during the mid-afternoon and felt safe. Parking was easy and everyone was minding their own business, whether fishing, sitting on the sand reading, or snapping photos. The beach path is somewhat narrow and gets rockier the closer you are to the water, so be careful walking. The walk up to the lighthouse especially pretty at dusk. While you can't go inside the lighthouse and the only activity in the area is Germaine's Luau, I enjoyed walking, sitting, and people watching at Barber's Point. It was not crowded at all making it a nice change of pace from Waikiki. Being off the tourist grid, it's a great spot for taking photos and relaxing for a bit. So, if you find yourself in this part of the island, make a quick stop to enjoy the view!

    This is pretty cool!

Karen is such an enthusiastic and positive person! She can somehow get me to do something that I had no intention of doing! LOL! For example, this Barbers Point Lighthouse was not on my list of Places to See. I knew that she was talking about it because her husband, Ken, is really interested in visiting every lighthouse that they can. Karen described how she contacted someone who had visited this lighthouse and "lived to tell the tale"... hahaha! I had a mental block about the surrounding area and the distance between Barbers Point and Honolulu. Karen didn't ask me to take her, but I knew that we could go quickly since it wasn't traffic time and it was a sunny day with good weather. I understood that it meant a lot for Karen and Ken to see this special Hawaiian landmark. .. so, I said, "Let's go now!" And it turned out better than I imagined! It only took about a half hour to get there. We used GPS and found the lighthouse easily. Luckily, a gate to Germaine's Luau was open and no one was around to prevent us from entering! We drove through the parking lot to be as close to the lighthouse as possible and got our photos! Mission accomplished! On the way back to the car, we talked about the significance of lighthouses. ..and how we as friends can be lighthouses for each other. Sometimes we are searching for something and our friends can be great guides for us! One of the best illustration of this (to me) was in the movie, "La La Land". The main characters really helped each other out! Remember the stained glass window that was above Ryan Gosling when he played the piano? Remember the name of the jazz cafe that he and Emma Stone went to? Go see the movie and we can discuss! !! ;)

Four stars for its accessibility and sunset views. There are far nicer beaches (that are not located next to junk car yards and other industrial businesses) for you to swim and tan at. This one is special to us as it's just a 20 minute drive from our Ewa Beach home where we can catch the sun setting into the ocean without having to drive north shore during the summer months. Located right in front of Germain's luau, I can't even begin to imagine what the hordes of Waikiki tourists must think as they drive through the industrial park to get there. Must get 'em plenty drunk on dem buses!

This one is really tucked away in a completely industrial area. As you drive down the only road to this place, it's tucked right next to the Germaine's Luau on a rocky beach. In fact , the only way to get to this lighthouse is to walk thru the park and veer on the beach in the right (watch the rocks) and go behind the luau until you reach the lighthouse. Lighthouse is plain , simple and the beach to reach it is pretty much unusable . The beach area directly to the left is gorgeous however. Just a nice side trip to snap a picture, not much else there or anything else to do . There are many signs posted to stay off of the Germaine's Luau property.

Not the nicest of beaches, but it's a clean beach with rest rooms next to a Germaine's Luau. There's a lot of sand and rocks but not a great area to swim in.

Talk about a hidden gem! My husband was born and raised on Oahu and I've lived here for 11 years but never knew about The Barber Point Lighthouse until a military friend who just moved here posted pictures of it on her Facebook. After seeing her pictures I was determined to check it out for myself but the other Yelpers' reviews had my second guessing myself. First...you don't need to trespass onto Germaine's Luau property. Veer left into the lot and follow the beach towards the lighthouse. It's literally a 5 minute walk on the beach. How can that not be enjoyable??? Second...we didn't notice any "inside of a butthole" smell as one Yelper complained of. Third...there wasn't just one broken picnic table. There were at least 3 intact picnic tables nestled along a palm tree lined beach. Fourth...there was a lot more sand area than we thought there was going to be AND it was clean. It's not necessarily the most kid friendly, but on a calm day kids can play in the water. In fact, my kids and another family frolicked for a bit. Fifth...when we first got there we didn't see any signs of "sketchy people." HOWEVER, as we were leaving we definitely saw them near the showers, bathroom and lot. Nobody bothered us and I see 100x that amount of sketchy people at Ala Moana Beach Park. All in all... not a magnificent beach but not the worst either. Definitely worth a trip to check out the lighthouse and collect seashells.

This beach park is very beautiful, however this beach is definitely NOT recommended for swimming. A jagged shoal is all along the water. Flip-flops are not recommended as well, if you plan to take a gamble and walk along the, again I say JAGGED shore, good luck! I saw lots fishing and picnickers here. Bathrooms, water fountains and tables is what you'll find here. OH and free parking! If you can score a bit of sandy area instead of steaking out a grassy area you might get sprayed from the larger waves crashing on shore. Cools ya down if you don't mind being a little saltwater sticky lol. "The Geographical name Ka lae loa, means "long point" in Hawaiian and is the native name for what is now called Barber's Point on O'ahu" Another special treat is when you come visit this beach park is got its very own Lighthouse! The Barber's Point Lighthouse. This "not open to the public" lighthouse sits 71 feet high on Oahu's southwest tip. Story says the lighthouse was named after a Captain Henry Barber, whom just loaded up his ship and it ran aground on Halloween night October 31, 1796! Bad omen or what?! Cause that would suck! I got this story from a couple that was sitting at a picnic bench. They just striked up a convo with me & hubby and told us all about the park! I researched it and its all true! Pretty cool! So I'll add that the lighthouse was established in 1888 and it indeed is a Fresnel Lens atop shinning over the waters. And current building was erected in 1933 as you can see in one of my pictures. The lighthouse sits behind Germaine's Luau.

    Lighthouse pic on the Canon!
    Kimberly L.

Ventured out to this side for the day. We were in Ewa Beach and my boyfriend wanted to try out his new Canon camera, we hardly get to take it out. So we looked for a few beaches in the area to tinker with it. We read there was a lighthouse and some of the pics looked cool on yelp. The beach park is in an industrial area in Kapolei. Just to warn you because it's in the industrial area it smells really weird driving in, especially by Chevron. (Weird is underestimating the word I'm looking for, it's bad.) I am surprised that they put a luau, all the way out here! It's very isolated and at points you're thinking, "WTF, where are we??!" The light house is on the luau side of the park, so trek along the beach path or walk around the parking lot beside Germaine's Luau. The beach looks rough and lots of coral. It was windy today, but looks quiet and very isolated. When we walked by there was a family doing a photo shoot, and lots of people fishing. It looks like a beach you sit and relax and talk story. Not frolic in the water. Overall okay-ish. Not somewhere I'd go again.

Located in the same area as Germain's Luau in the Campbell Industrial Park and Barber's Point. The park is a small and tucked away. The parking lot is clean, there is a bathroom (we didn't use it) and a half rotted picnic table. The beach is rocky and I don't recommend it for swimming for young children---shore swimming only. You can dive here, my father used to dive here when we were little; great fishing spot. The lighthouse is directly next to Germain's luau. You cannot enter it. It is an electric powered lighthouse with no top dome.

    Waves are awesome...

The area is by all the nice resorts (like Disney) and golf course so it's a little farther away from Waikiki. To get in, there's a parking entrance. You can either stick to the right and I believe that's free parking. Alternatively, you can go straight and do paid parking. It's all day parking for $22. We opted for this option since it was quicker and we didn't wanna wait in line. The lagoon area itself has a locally grassy area. For a beach it has very clean restrooms. The beach itself is pretty small, but the water is very shallow and tame. Our baby who is 13 months old had a fantastic time. Highly recommend it will be coming back to this beach with our child in the future.

You get closer and the water is blue and...white? White because of all the people soup...and sun screen...you go to walk into the water and there's little debris and tiny pieces of trash in the small waves washing up to shore. My daughter put her snorkel on and went in. She couldn't see a thing! And I couldn't see her!! She was 4 feet from shore and when she went in with her bright neon bathing suit (for safety visibility reasons) SHE DISAPPEARED - that's how murky the water is. I was so grossed out when I tried to wade into the water we immediately left.
