None of the food is healthy, but sometimes you need some grease. It's also very good grease. I had a flight of 6 draft beers. All good. One was a sour beer. At first I was scared if it. With each sip I said to myself this is weird. This is strange. Then this is good. Now I kinda like it. I really like that the fish and chips can include three different kinds of fish. Cod, haddock and salmon. Even more impressive was the bun on my fish sandwich. The outside was crispy and the inside soft and colored red! Amazing bun. It looks really stunning - everything looks new and clean with plenty of seating in the large dining room. When we arrived it wasn't too crowded and were seated towards the side of the dining room close to the windows. At its heart, this is a brewery and they have a good selection of craft beer. We were given the option of beer if we wanted to pay on our own, but we were really there for poutine which was included in the tour. I'm not much of a beer person so I passed, but did partake in the poutine. It was pretty good, though I wouldn't say it was too noteworthy. I have now had poutine from several places in the city, and this would be middle of the road for me. It was tasty and quality, but nothing too exciting. I don't really fault them though, as poutine is not the star of the show here. Service as good - overall I had a fine experience at Siboire. I need to return to explore more of their menu - and possibly a beer.

I wasn't there to do a long session, so I got a couple tasters, one including Peche Mortal and the other a NEIPA. Two very different styles and both extremely well done. Beyond that, the space had a very old-fashioned look. Really nice wooden fixtures and a very warm, welcoming vibe. The server was also attentive and friendly, but also knew when to let people sit back and enjoy their drinks. You probably don't need me to tell you, but yes, you should go.

Brasserie Dieu du Ciel was one of them, and it just so happened we were in its vicinity after our Mile End food tour concluded. That being said, we made our way over. While I am not a beer person myself, I'll have a round or two if I'm with a group, and can appreciate a good brewery. My first impression of Dieu du Ciel was just that - the vibes were on walking in. The space is pretty large - kinda separated into semi- compartmentalized spaces with tables throughout. There's not much decor, but medium-toned woods throughout which gave it a sort of upscale feel. They offer a food menu, but we were just here for drinks. They have a really wide selection of beer - again, I'm no connoisseur, but I could tell that the selection was way more than other breweries I've been to. I ended up getting a cider for the first round and a stout for my second round - both very good. Service was great, and overall we enjoyed our time at Dieu du Ciel. Their selection and comfortable setting made it a standout brewery for me out of the ones I've visited in Montreal - I wouldn't hesitate to return.

B and I ended up sitting outside on the benches that were setup. It was somewhat romantic with the hanging lights. The benches were in a good layout so it didn't feel like it was too crammed etc. Definitely a great place to have a gathering with friends on a hot day. Server was very friendly. B said the beer was pretty good. He said it was not too hoppy and yes it was definitely better than most craft brewery from BC (where we are from). He was impressed. He said he would go back for sure. I have to say Montreal has some really good craft brewery and you know that they don't cut corners like many of the craft brewery back home in BC that is why their flavor is much more apparent and the beer itself is less hoppy.

Brutopia is practically next door to our temporary Montreal headquarters, so I suspect I will be conducting extensive research here over the next two weeks. Our first visit happened on a rainy evening, which immediately demonstrated Brutopia's greatest feature: DOGS. ARE. ALLOWED. INSIDE. Finally, a country that respects my social calendar. Brutopia is much bigger than it first appears. Once inside, there are multiple rooms with different types of seating, giving it that cozy, rambling pub feeling where you could easily find your own little corner and settle in for the evening. But despite the rain, Mum and Dad decided we should investigate the upstairs outdoor patio. Excellent decision. It's a really cool space with a huge colorful mural, hanging plants and a slightly greenhouse-y feel. Add in the fact that they sometimes have live music, and I can already tell this is going to become one of our neighborhood hangouts. Mum ordered a Caesar salad with bacon. I would like everyone to focus on one particular word in that sentence. BACON. I positioned myself appropriately. I stared. I waited. I even wore a hoodie to dinner, so frankly I don't know what more was expected of me. Meanwhile, Mum and Dad enjoyed a couple of drinks while I relaxed and took in the scene. Brutopia isn't trying to be a fancy dog restaurant with pup menus and elaborate canine amenities. What makes it special is actually more useful: I can come inside with my humans. I really liked the vibes as soon as we entered - the place isn't too large, but still spacious enough to have two semi-split up rooms. We stayed in the front room that housed the bar, some tables, as well as a small stage where (I assume) live music plays. The decor had somewhat of a music theme, as one of the walls was covered in pictures of famous artists. We had a round - I'm not the biggest beer person but had a cider which was good. We also split a poutine - we opted for the popcorn chicken one which was tasty. Everyone was really friendly, and we were even talking it up with a fellow patron who was also from New York. Service was great, and although it was only a short stay, I had a good experience at Brutopia. I wouldn't hesitate to return next time I'm in the area.
