This seems like the perfect outdoor brewery. right next to a great bike path and canal with tones of great seating, a large field with yard games, and a very serene view anywhere you sit. The beer itself was pretty decent with a good variety and even some interesting ones like the apricot beer. I've only been here twice, once during peak and once not during peak, and I gotta say they are two very different experiences. It's a huge space but good luck finding a table if you're a big group, it's like musical chairs but way more stressful. If you wanna visit I highly recommend off peak hours as it's generally more relax and you will actually enjoy getting drinks with your friends. But the downside of that is they stop serving food around 9:30pm but they do allow outside food which is a big plus in my opinion. I ordered the st-henri pizza and even though it took 40 minutes to get, it wasn't bad. I do think the state of the pizza's vary quite a lot though, some of my friends pizzas were just burnt. So the inconsistency there is a bit annoying but again, since you can bring in outside food, might as well just bring something you will wanna eat. Staff is great, friendly and helpful. Not at all a bad place to go but really depends when you go. I wouldn't go out of my way to visit but when you're in the area, it's the place to be. read more

I've never been to Terrase St-Ambroise but bought a LivingSocial deal years ago (remember the coupon craze?) and never used it. Well, finally decided to check it out for some day drinking. We dropped in on a Wednesday afternoon (around 4:00pm). The terrasse is huge with picnic tables and tables all over the place. The view of the silos in the background is breathtaking. Loved how they had two corn bag tossing games you could play. The menu is behind the counter. There's beer, cider and wine for drinks. Snacks, pizzas, burgers and hot dogs make up the small selection of food. - Palette de dégustation ($12.00 for 6) - we went with abricot (apricot), cream ale, framboise (raspberry), stout, IPA tangerine and IPA pamplemousse (grapefruit). The apricot and raspberry were the best. Did not enjoy the cream ale or stout; both were incredibly bland and generic. Liked how you could actually taste the grapefruit in the IPA. Decent beers but they lack depth and uniqueness. Come for the chill relaxing terrasse away from the hustle and bustle of downtown. Just expect generic beers. read more

Less tables then before which is understandable, so for bigger groups may be an issue as they do request not to move tables around however the chairs seem to be ok. Came recently and there was already a crowd enjoying the sun even though it was still chilly and windy. We bundled up, stayed in the sun to keep warm and it was worth it. Very laid back atmosphere, grab a beer at the bar and find an empty seat. There are plenty of seating but I can see it filling up quickly once the hot sunny weather kicks in. They had their wood-burning pizza oven up and running already. They churned out pizzas the whole time we were there, so no worries about going hungry either. On my most recent trip to Montreal ... I wanted to visit a local brewery that could compare to what I'm used to back home. Although Terrasse St-Ambroise was a little difficult to find at night, I managed and glad that we made it before they closed for the winter (which I was unaware they did). I didn't have the opportunity to sit out all day drinking but because of their travel friendly pricing, I was able to sample 6 - 5 oz pours for roughly a little over $9 USD. Now that alone was great, but on top of having a tasty beer selection and a spacious outdoor area that made it that much better. Next time I'm in town, I'll make it a point to come during the day in the late summer/early fall season to thoroughly enjoy the outdoor area and possibly the food next time. read more

We were staying in a flat nearby for summer vacation. We loved Montréal and this place was just another reason why. My wife and I walked along the canal to get here and it was a busy Thursday scene of people, kids and dogs. Great variety of beers and they had a pizza oven going which we didn't have time for. Loveeeeed the vibe here. Unpretentious and huge outdoor space in St-Henri totally hidden away facing silos. Can't believe it was my first time here! What a neighbourhood gem. They have beer and cider on tap, along with some food like tacos and burgers. Wish they'd have a bigger selection of food, including fries and real nachos not just chips with salsa. Even your 2 choices of cidre sux so I couldn't even enjoy that. It reeks of beer. The whole terrasse stinks of it like they dumped a keg onto every single table there. Even beer lovers hafta admit that's quite unpleasant. Having to stand in line for service and then be expected to pay tips on that too is kinda bogus. You are not flayring up a cocktail, you are pulling a lever and filling a glass. Something McDs and Burgerking have been letting their customers do on their own for years haha. And the line ups get longer and longer as the minutes tick past 5pm. So you spend a good chunk of your night missing the conversations at your table. Foodwise I was told on repetition that their pizza is the best seller here. I'm not really a huge pizza fan, but the pizzas here did not look like anything I would wana spend money on. I wanted to try the pulled pork tacos for 9$, if memory serves, but I was cautioned against this by the staff so bonus points for preventing me from buying mediocre food at least. Thanks guys! Earned your tip for that at least. I was going to give this 3 stars because it wasn't horrible and I was glad I finally checked it out. But in writing this I realize I really can't give it more than 2, it's not awful, but it has absolutely zero to offer me. I won't be back. If you can't decide, you can get the tasting paddle with 6 different beers to taste from and then you can decide which one you prefer. I had their hotdog. It was very tasty, big sausage, juicy; reminds me the ones you get at baseball games. It also comes with house nachos which are also addictive. Lovely location fully outdoors (lots of seating) beside the lachine canal. they have a great casual fun montreal summer atmosphere , laid back , fun and full of energy :) you order your beer and/or snack and then seat yourself wherever you can find a spot (this place is always busy & for good reason). Their pints and pitchers are so cheap and so good (the beer on tap is brewed on site) My go to is their apricot beer (light and refreshing and perfect for a summer day on a beautiful open air terrasse! they accept card payments and do not take reservations Thursday's to Sunday's. You could easily walk right past one of the best terrasse in Montreal if you walked passed Terrasse St-Ambroise on the street side. You have to walk through a gravel parking lot and up a few stairs before reaching this summer beer garden. From the canal, you can't miss it. It's right on the bike path and one of the best places to hang out on the canal. If you've had McAuslan products before, you know they also have some of the best local beer which is brewed onsite. My personal favorite is the Apricot, but they also always have rotating seasonal beers from Maple to Raspberry. Every year, they seem to add to the terrasse experience - this year, they've expanded the deck and added more seating. There is live music on some nights and the staff is always very friendly. The food menu is also pretty good with burgers and tacos to satisfy your cravings. The only way this place can get better is if they start serving the Annexe food menu outside so we can get nachos with cheese. read more

This place discriminates against people they don't like. When I ordered a burger from a bartender, he pretended his computer didn't work anymore (I could feel the BS), and instead of having another bartender help me with their working computer (assuming he didn't lie), he sent me to stand in line again behind 5 more people even though it was my turn. I later verified the guy was lying as he allowed other customers to come use his computer in less than the time I needed to stand in line behind 5 other people to get my order. And, he never called me back when supposedly his computer came back online. I've never gotten service this bad anywhere in Canada before. Later, I confirmed the lie as I reported the issue to the manager, telling him some waiters/bartenders discriminate against people because of not speaking French or some other reasons, and he said he knows some do that, and he asked me how to help make it up for me (but he confirmed he knew some do that). Anyways, they gave me a buzzer for the burger I eventually ordered, but although my friend got his burger in 5 minutes, mine took more than 20 minutes, and the buzzer never went off. It was obvious 100% that they did that to get back at me for calling out their bluff/lie about the non-working computer (which they performed to push me below them as an inferior human being to them they could discriminate against). When I went there to complain about the buzzer, some random dude standing next to a food order clerk/waiter was yelling at me and asking me "to relax" and "calm down". The guy was literally half my age, and he was giving me orders. I called his bluff and told the food clerk/waiter that the guy could be my son and yet he's yelling at me. That is not acceptable. I am mistreated, so I won't calm down while I am getting discriminated against and mistreated. The clerk lost it too and started telling me to calm down. I told him I'm the customer, and as such, he's my servant at the restaurant, so he is not in a position to give me any orders. The other guy who yelled at me initially turned out to be his friend and didn't even work there. I told them they were rude people who know nothing about manners. They both surrendered and shut up as the clerk was afraid of losing his job, so he sent me to his manager. I talked to the manager, and he gave me a free drink to compensate for the bad service, and then proceeded to get my burger, which was apparently ready, but no body alerted the buzzer, confirming that it was intentional bad service in discrimination against me just as I suspected. Later on, when I was buying another drink from the manager, I tried to tell him thank you, and yet he ignored me while talking to someone else as if other people are more important than the customer. Nobody does that anywhere else in Canada. This place oughta get shut down for discriminating against customers, even if it were only one customer (though it's probably discrimination against every customer they don't like). One discrimination and you're out legally speaking. I've gotten 2 places shut down for mistreating me last year (long stories), including a Tim Hortons, which seems like the type of place that would never close. Every place that discriminates against people in Canada due to hiring 3rd world country trash or awful people in general is getting shut down and going out of business. It's against the law and the Canadian spirit to have discrimination happening here against Canadian people. read more

The terrasse is very large but I recommend you sit on the picnic tables near the grass where you can enjoy the view of an abandoned factory decorated with colorful graffitis. The vibe here is great - a great place to come by for some brews with some friends. A huge open terrase right by the canal. I got their sampler with 6 small beers, most of which were good (I am no beer snob) - would recommend you try that too to get a taste of what they have. And the price is fair too. However, I was disappointed by the food. I tried the hotdog and burger which were pretty mediocre, and they don't sell fries (wth!), you get tortilla chips instead. It's a microbrewery, so that shouldn't be the main criteria imo. Recommend this place for their beer and chill vibes. read more

As far as patios goes, this is a must-try. You need to go through a gravel lot to get to the terrace which is grassy and has loads of picnic tables with umbrellas. On offer is a wide selection of St-Ambroise beers in pints or pitchers. There's something for everyone - we tried the red ale, apricot ale and the raspberry ales, but if you know St-Ambroise you know you pretty must can't go wrong with their beer. They have a small selection of snacks like burgers, hotdogs, and chips. I had a veggie burger which was tasty. The vibe on the terrace was pretty bumping, even for a chilly, rainy Wednesday night. My original five star review for McAuslan and specifically for its amazing terrace got somehow transferred under the Annex. So here I'm writing another five star review for the BEST beer garden in Montreal. It is simple, unpretentious, relaxed, friendly towards kids, pets, bikers and everybody else, and it makes people happy, or at least it makes me happy, and I believe it makes my friends and relatives happy. I'm happy when they open in the late spring and I'm jumping on my bike to get there with the ultimate goal to drink my first apricot pint in celebration of the approaching summer. I'm happy when my sweet heart orders another pint of IPA and raves about it, and we put our big smiles on our faces. I'm happy when my friends order a pitcher of cream ale as it is one of the most elaborate beers ever made. I have a very happy picture of my mom sitting in front of one of these six glass tasting boards. I'm even happier when the fall approaches because it means there will be pumpkin brew as it is the best I have tried and I have tried a lot. I only regret the maple season is during the winter and I can't drink the most amazing maple ale at the terrace. And this is all I have to say! Cheers! read more

I was recommended this place by many people and I'm sorry to say but food was horrible. How can you mess up a french onion soup in a french province? But again, in all honesty, I haven't had good food in montreal so far yet, so this place is not an exception from the rest of restaurants that are just not good. I'm not picky but I do know what good food tastes like because I cook myself, so when I go to a restaurant I expect the chef to cook better than me otherwise why else I'd overpay for food? The problem with this place was, is that they are one of those cooks that believe the weirder spices I will put, the more exotic the food will be and desired by those with bad taste because they think hmmm this is interesting. But there is nothing interesting about Cajun spice in french cuisine and this place seems to put Cajun spice in everything, or put coriander seeds in french onion soup? Why? It's not Cajun place, it doesn't say it has Cajun fusion to it, says french food, so what's up with all these strange spices I don't know. Problem with strong spices like that, they overpower the true taste of the food so why even bother cooking something, when you can't even taste it, all you taste is Cajun spice. read more
