I want to give five stars to the Walnut Creek Kaiser Pharmacy, especially the pharmacist who assisted me. She mentioned she was from Romania, and she was fabulous--professional, thorough in her consultation, and genuinely caring. She's the reason I'm giving five stars despite what I'm about to describe. The waiting area itself, however, became a case study in Cali public confusion. A gentleman was leaning against the wall mid-line, and his placement gave the impression that he was the start of the line. One young woman even ended up standing in the middle of the area, unsure where to go. Everyone who came in after repeated the same moment of hesitation--unsure if the man against the wall was "in line" or not. The pharmacist politely asked him to sit down to reduce the confusion, but he refused. And still, he didn't seem to realize he was the cause of the disorder. This was not really a Kaiser operational problem--it was a citizen problem. Kaiser staff can't physically force someone to sit. The staff handled it professionally, but the dysfunction lingered. What's worth noting is how this small situation illustrated something larger about our California culture: * Absence of spatial awareness: The man didn't seem to grasp how his placement distorted the entire flow. * Resistance to correction: Even when told directly by a staff member, he refused to adapt. * The confused majority: Others sensed the disorder but froze, unwilling to assert clarity. * Public order as optional: A line is supposed to provide structure; here it became negotiable. That's my soapbox moment. It may seem like "just a line," but multiplied across systems--healthcare, transportation, government--you get dysfunction everywhere. This kind of breakdown in basic public order is exactly why, in my view, federal elections have gone the way they have. People crave someone to restore what seems to be collapsing in daily life-order. So yes, the issue is worth noting, but it wasn't Kaiser's fault. The real takeaway is cultural. Thankfully, the pharmacist I worked with turned a highly disappointing moment into a positive one--and she deserves every bit of praise. read more

They were short staffed at the Pharmacy but did great staffing the entry point, with Temperature check, hand sanitizer, and "tagged with the location" you needed to go to. They put a sticker on your shoulder. No contact. You check-in at the Pharmacy clerk then you wait outside or I was given an option to wait inside if I had to sit. I really appreciate the clear organization. There were cleaners that mopped/"swiffered" the floor constantly, at least 2x during my 10 min wait(actually less). I know going to the Pharmacy isn't the most fun, but the team here is amazing. My wife needed to get on a flight and the main pharmacy was closed so they sent me to the hospital pharmacy, Connie springs into action and fills the prescription and has me out the door in 5 minutes making sure we could catch our flight. I'd give the whole Kaiser system zero stars! The automated telephone system and hold times are inexcusable. The inability to get a human on the phone is pathetic. If you are a member you have to settle for the fact they make it painful for you to get assistance. 20 minute average to wait for pharmacy on the phone. They claim high call volume well then hirer more people! Don't even think about automated call back system as you won't get a call. This is not one time ... it is every time! They don't care about the customer experience. Look for any other medical provider than Kaiser if you truly want to be cared for! read more

Five stars is for the staff behind the counter. Unfortunately the drill sergeant who mans the pharmacy check-in kiosk, while seemingly wanting to help, comes off as condescending and disorganized. Specifically referring to my experience last night. I don't think this person should be in the customer facing position. Please give this position to someone more compassionate and organized. The system is old-style. They still use name boards to let people know their prescription order is up instead of using a text message/cell phone automated call. Beware, I just came down to pickup my order after the doctor told me. I waited about a half hour and my name was never displayed. So I watied in line and asked. The counter person told me that this is a big hospital (which it isn't) and that you have to tell us. But there is no sign anywhere that says this! Can you believe that? People complaining having to wait 15 min? Wow... what's wrong with you? I used to wait in line 15-20 minutes at CVS to drop off my script to an indifferent pharmacy tech then wait another 30-40 minutes for them to fill my prescription, then wait another 10-15 minutes in line to pick it up. I once waited for 30 minutes at Kaiser because the pharmacy tech made a mistake and forgot to key in my prescription. After I mentioned it politely that they were late they apologized profusely and gave it to me for free. Does CVS or Walgreens do this? No way. At the pharmacy last week there was a woman who started screaming and throwing f-bombs because she had to... get this... go and wait in a different line that was empty. She would have been serviced immediately but instead had to throw a tantrum and eventually had to be escorted out. Maybe she was one of the 1 star reviewers. I'm taking off a star only because there is one pharm tech (actually pharmacy technician is too kind, he's a cashier) who needs lessons on how to be friendly to customers. The guy looks miserable, acts miserable (probably drowns kittens for fun when he's off work) and won't admit when he makes a mistake. I once got the wrong prescription and he kept insisting it was the correct one until I asked for the pharmacist to come and clear it up. Dude, go become a licensed pharmacist then I'll listen to you... Kaiser is the easiest and best healthcare plan/hospital/doctor office/pharmacy I've ever had. How could anyone complain? The fact that you can see your doctor/get surgery/have a baby/ visit the ER etc and walk downstairs to get your prescription in 10 minutes is so convenient. Even if you have to wait an extra 20 minutes (gasp) if they're busy-compare that to what you'd go through trying to fill a prescription at cvs from John Muir. I can't believe people could say anything negative about Kaiser. I've had their insurance for 5 years after a life time of regular insurance and I'd never go back. I've had 2 babies here, 4 surgeries, many various doctor visits and countless prescriptions filled and it's all been a breeze. Huge dramatic eye roll to the one star reviews on here. This place has long lines and is not set up properly to handle the volume of customers it has well. After phoning in an order I had to wait 20 minutes for my prescription to start getting made. I was told to take a seat and wait. After 20 more minutes went by, I was in need of using the lavatory. After completion, I returned to check on my order. The lady I asked said, "did you get up" I responded yes. She then said "now you gotta get in line again. "I then had to wait another 20 minutes again. This system in place is in dire need of an overhaul. I plan on canceling Kaiser with my family and joining blue shield next month. read more

One of the things I appreciate is everything under one roof. I go into CVS or Walgreens and am so glad I don't have to go there. That said, whatever the "new" prescription system is has created for LESS efficiency and longer wait times. I see others are having the same complaint. It used to be see your doctor, walk in and take a seat, wait for your name to come up on the board then get in line. Now you have to do both. Get in line to check in, then take a seat and wait for your name to come up on the board, and then go get in the really really L.O.N.G. line to pick it up. Whatever the pharmacy upgrade was is really bad. I waited in the really long line for almost 45 minutes only to be told I was in the wrong line. Seeing that I was going to explode the tech went ahead and let me check in. "There are signs everywhere ma'm" may be a true statement, but when the lines are so long that all of the signs are behind people and you don't see them then guess what? You get in the long line because there are so many people you don't even SEE that there are two lines. Bad change. The STAFF gets an A. They are obviously frustrated with the new system too, but of course they have to be PC and can't say anything. The saving grace is that if you get the right cashier s/he will promise to call you up so you don't have to wait in the line again. My guy told me to come up to him if it went longer than 20 minutes, so I went up to him at 30 and I could tell by the look on his face that he was both embarrassed at the incompetence behind the wall and frustrated because he's the face of the department and the one likely to get the brunt of the patients' frustration. There are people in there on crutches, in boots, in newly put on casts, who are in serious pain and it doesn't move any faster for them. I do mail order for all of my regular maintenance stuff, but there's one prescription I have to go in person for every month and I always dread it. read more

Under the direction of the previous Director of Pharmacy Services, this pharmacy handled a large volume of members with a smooth and easy to use system. If you used the Easy-Fill System and ordered your meds ahead of time, all you had to do was wait in the "short line" for previously ordered prescriptions. A typical time for walk in, pick up and get out was about 15 minutes maximum. But NOW (since the New System and the departure of the previous Director) the whole process is a ORDEAL, particularly if you are picking up pain meds and are disabled or sick. It takes a minimum of ONE HOUR just to pick up a Previously Ordered item. They got rid of the Previously Ordered line, combining it with the "Haven't Ordered Yet" line, creating ONE HUGE WAIT for both categories of member, so now Everyone has to wait for a long time. And on too of that, those who have ordered "Ahead of Time" now find that their prescriptions are not even processed, even after they receive an automated phone message telling them to "PIck Your Prescriptions, they are ready." That means even you have been told the order is waiting, it is not. So you will have to sit down and WAIT, for how long, it isn't clear. For example, Today I waited 35 minutes in the 1st line, was told to sit down and wait for the prescription to be filled, and they "would call my name", then after 35 more minutes I inquired as to what happened when No One Called My Name. 10 minutes later, I finally paid and exited, but had additional parking fees and had spent over an hour picking up something that was ordered 5 days prior. I filed a complaint a month ago and that has not been addressed, not a peep from member services, Nada, Nothing. I am going to escalate my complaint. read more

This place can be very disorganized. I came at 7pm, so I expected a bit of a wait. When I gave them my prescription order, I was told 20 minutes. After 30 minutes of waiting, I went up to ask about the status of my prescription. The woman who helped me asked if I had checked in. Sure did, 30 minutes ago... She went into the back to speak with the pharmacist who informed her, they were backed up and it would be another 20 minutes! That is totally unacceptable. I arrived before a rush, the rush of people cleared, and there's been time for another rush to come in. I woman offered to text me when it's ready, a nice gesture but totally useless as I live 20 minutes away and have someone waiting for me on a car. All in all, I DO NOT RECOMMEND unless you have at least an hour free. read more

(3.5) What can I say, its a pharmacy. Generally they are sterile environments that do not a lot of character. This one is clean and has an array of pain meds, cold stuff, lotion, and even insoles for your shoes. I went to pick up my bc and they told me it was a 15 minute wait. I waited about 11 minutes before my name showed up on the screen, but then had to get back in line which took a few minutes. The guy who helped me was nice. I went around 6:30 at night and it wasn't terribly busy when I got there, but did end up filling up. The parking is kind of annoying because you have to go in the lot and if you are in a hurry good luck. This is the main pharmacy, but there is a smaller one upstairs to. As far as pharmacy's go, I'd say this one is a little above average. read more

I didnt notice until I got home and so now I'm back wasting more time here. I ordered my prescription a week ahead just to make sure that everything is ready when I pick-up. They said that it would be ready on Thursday. I was not able to make it and just visited on Monday the following week instead. The lady at the counter was rude and had no sense of empathy. She told me that it's back-ordered and that she can't do anything about it. She was trying to tell me how to react too. Are you kidding me?! I waited half an hour in line just to be told that it's not ready? It's 4 days after the promised refill date. This is preposterous! I worked as a pharmacy tech before too and I know how stressful the job can be. But try to at least have some empathy, or sympathy! read more

Horrible service! The pharmacist thinks he knows more than my surgeon when it comes to how much pain meds I need to control my pain. Unbelievable! I've had 5 accidents over the last few years as well as 2 surgeries, so yea I have a higher tolerance for medication which is why I was prescribed the medication in question. Tells me to "wait while he checks to make everything is alright." I was sent away with no pain meds or antibiotics. Great feeling to have from your medical provider. read more

The staff here are generally very patient and kind, and try their hardest to be helpful. They are trapped in a system of terrible computers, unresponsive support and doctors who don't know how to file information correctly. Probably 75% of the time there's a problem with my prescriptions here. One time it took a week longer than expected to get a vital, daily medication, and I was told at 8pm on a weekday, after arguing with multiple people for a while about why my order was "cancelled" and then shipped to Livermore that I could go to Antioch that night because it's 24 hour and they have it in stock. They also said they couldn't check any other pharmacy's stock - but were able to tell me where it was in stock around the bay area just a few minutes later! The pharmacist even said in a very bitchy tone, "You don't have to go out there if you don't want." Except I was on my last pill and had spent 7 days dealing with it already! No, I'm not driving to Antioch at 8pm on a work night! Always fun when the best possible luck for this pharmacy is parking on the 4th floor of the garage, waiting half an hour in line, and leaving with one bottle of pills. I often need two or three scripts filled and almost always leave with one and have to come back later. read more
