We had a perfectly portioned piece of salmon in a creamy sauce with riced potatoes on the side. There is a napa cabbage salad and bread available at a bar. It was $16 US. Astounding value for the price. You order and pay and they bring your food to you. It was fun to walk around to see the little food shops in the same place. Located inside the Hötorgshallen (food hall) where there is a selection of food purveyors to choose from, I went downstairs to find Kajsas Fisk to try their famous fish soup for 130 SEK. Unsurprisingly, there is a line people (which hides the English menu) waiting to get a big bowl of soup and other fish delights. Thankfully, the line moves fast and the cashier ladles you your bowl of soup. After getting your bowl, you get your bread and butter which are located next to the utensils and choose a table. Tasting like cioppino, the soup tasted great with pieces of fish and a few tiny shrimp and mussels. For the next time, a server recommended the Swedish style fried herring. I can't wait. read more

The hype is real! Their restaurant is located in the lower level of the food hall. Once you're at the bottom of the escalator you can't miss it. You grab a tray, get in line, place your order, and pay. If you order the fish soup, they give it to you right then, if you order something else, you'll get a number. I love love love fisk soppa, and Kajas Fisk was one of my favorite places in Sweden to try it! As other reviews have mentioned, this counter-service restaurant is located in the bottom section of the food hall. I went for a relatively late lunch on a weekday and found a line wrapped around the food court. There are two different seating areas, and as a single diner, I had no problem snagging a stool along the counter. You order at the counter, pay, and have the food delivered to your table. If you order the fish stew, they fill up a huge bowl for you at the register. Every meal comes with unlimited self-serve bread and salad (both of which you should try to round out your meal). As for the fisk soppa? So good. Every spoonful had a bite of seafood in it, from mussels to a firm white fish, floating around in the tomato broth. It was creamy without being overly rich and I finished every last drop. The rest of the menu looked amazing as well. Would definitely recommend a meal here for great seafood in the center of Stockholm! read more

It comes with unlimited bread and salad (and apparently free refills, but can't attest to it). I was pleasantly surprised the bread both rye and crisp were really fresh and their salads green. It is hard to move as it is near the cashier and everyone else wants this too. Seating is a bit of a mess. That's part of the experience when you have a long wait at this popular spot. I was just happy they make any effort to get you seated and fed, so best to "GTFO" when you're done. But, if you mix the cream into the soup, it doesn't really taste like anything. For ~$14, you can get TWO bowls of soup! Just bring your bowl up for a free refill. Come here for the pan fried salmon, it is delicious. The restaurant itself is pretty confusing so here are my tips: 1. This restaurant is split by the narrow walkway in the basement food court. Your order includes their (self serve) house salad, rye and butter and tap water. Everyone seemed to know this (except for us until it was explained). 3. Your food will be delivered to your table 4. This review is pretty much solely for the fish soup. It's awesome. Plus they give you seconds if you go up and ask. I was surprised at how much fish and seafood was in the soup, and the taste of all of the ingredients and the broth was superb. There was a decent sized line of 15 or so people when we got there around 1 PM, but it went pretty fast. For how popular this place is the seating is kind of tight, but we shared a table with some other people that were eating there and it was totally fine. I have yet to eat here as I near the end of two weeks in Stockholm. But perhaps you will be in the area at an off hour. It is in the building, enter by the outdoor fruit market, down the escalator and you will see it. In the meantime, I will vary my schedule and hope to get in. Huge lines says something. And all I heard was Swedish so the locals think it is worth the wait. It is not too far from Ahlens. If you don't get in, the little shops in the building are also a treat. Very crowded, a tad touristy but a good spot for lunch at this fish market/ sea food eatery. It's decided to be brave since I'm on vacation and go with the fried herring. No matter how you prepare herring it never seems palatable but here it was quite good and served with a heaping side of delicious mashed potatoes. This place was a little hard to find at first, being tucked in the side of the basement of Hörtogshallen. Prices hover slightly over 100Kr, which is pretty good considering the quality of the food. I had the regular fish and chips, while some of my friends had the fish soup and herring. The fish were fresh and well cooked, but we felt the herring could have been fried a little more but otherwise everything else was good. As Lily T. noted, it is quite affordable compared to other seafood options in the very expensive dining out city of Stockholm. Even though Hötorgshallen has been modified and renovated Kajsas Fisk is still keeping its old and classical look with all its previous flaws and beauty. Something that should have been fixed during this time of renovation was the queue system which is inefficient and I would have loved to see a change to that. Kajsas Fisk has been well known for so many years now that their reputation is high. Sadly my last visit here did not live up to the expectations.
