It's not a burger or pizza and a beer, but this is my go-to spot for dinner before a game or concert at the Garden, even though it's not quite in proximity to the arena. This is Cha Yen's (of Watertown) sister restaurant, so the menu is quite similar, if not the same. Since I like Cha Yen's green curry, I typically get it here, and it's comparable with the Watertown location. The curry is spicy but not numbing, with a delicately balance sauce that has some savory and a subtle hint of sweet. There's enough vegetable and protein in the curry to feel satisfied. The short rib curry is a little more thicker and robust, and is rather like a hearty stew. The meat falls off the bone and is also pretty flavorful. Service is fine, though nothing amazing. It seemed like a popular place for tourists and locals as well (this may have been because a farmer's market was open right next door). Good vibe overall. The service was good -- nothing amazing/negative to report on. I did appreciate how the menu highlighted what was vegetarian and what was not. The food was pretty good. Food comes out pretty fast and service is quick - the server is very fast-paced and more down to business so don't expect a super friendly vibe. The food was solid - filling and flavorful. I recently went again after my first trip and honestly that was a bit more disappointing, I'd say stick to regular noodle and curry dishes since the duck was really small and the cheese shrimp rolls were not great. Overall, I enjoyed my meals and wouldn't mind coming back if in the area again. Walking around the hotel to check out the restaurants around Faneuil Hall. Been eating Italian and seafood dishes and was looking for something different when I saw a line outside Kala Thai Cookery. I take it as a good sign whenever there is a line and they did not disappoint. It took 20 minutes to get seated. They were taking orders just before going in. Guess that's being efficient. Started with the fried tofu. Coated with light crispy batter on the outside and soft on the inside. Word of caution... it came smoking hot literally. For my main, ordered the Kapow (3 sign) with ground pork. It was delicious and just right amount of spice. The dinner portion was huge and good for sharing. It's even bigger than portions in Texas! It was a little salty. Should have asked if I can order sunny side up egg with it. Order comes with a side of white rice. Restaurant has a modern and rustic feel. Despite eating a full breakfast, then eating after breakfast ice cream, I was told this was the best Thai restaurant in Boston so I made sure to try Kala Thai out. It's easy to miss, so make sure to google maps this place. It's a very small restaurant, kitchen is open concept so it's a modern hole in the wall. The lunch menu was very affordable and expansive. There's a little bit of everything on it. I ordered the Garlic Bok Choy and my friend ordered the Pineapple Curry. Both came with white rice. You can upgrade to brown rice for an extra charge. I absolutely loved how the veggies weren't cooked to mush and that my entree came on a banana leaf. Both were beautifully presented dishes and full of flavor. I'm a huge fan of the fried tofu so already that was a win in my books. Garlic Bok Choy - think fried garlic tossed amongst simple veggies and the star is the bok choy. Aromatic, bold, oily stir fry in the best way. Pineapple Curry - fresh, bright, and tastes like it was cooking for hours with pineapple simmering at the last minute. We beat the crowd and there weren't too many other tables at the time. But I'm told that this place fills up all the time, so don't be surprised. read more

I started out with the corn cake appetizer. Satisfyingly crispy texture with a delicious dipping sauce. It's deep fried, so it was greasy, but a dish like this can't help but be greasy. Next I got tofu with cashews. High quality tofu and a fresh variety of vegetables. Absolutely delicious sauce. This was my favorite. Finally I tried the tofu pad thai (w/egg). Once again, all ingredients were fresh, high quality and delicious. I liked the copious amounts of fried onion on top. This is an easy recommendation for those that like Thai cuisine. I loved this restaurant so much during my visit to Boston. It was so close to the Boston Public Market and our nearby hotel. It was extremely busy and the seats are kind of close together, but I didn't mind that that much. Staff was attentive enough for how busy the restaurant was. We ordered the papaya salad, short ribs curry and panang curry. We also ordered the sticky rice which comes at an extra charge. They forgot the order of the the sticky rice on the short rib curry and had put regular rice, but they were super apologetic and let us keep the regular rice, and shortly after brought the correct order of sticky rice. We also decided to try their thai tea ice cream and it was okay for me. The ice cream was a bit dense and was more icy than creamy. The flavour was very good though! The noodles were a little too salty for our preferences. Portions were on the smaller side so I recommend getting more dishes to feel full. The pad thai was great and the see ew was also good. Kee Mao was pretty spicy but had a lot of flavor. Green curry was spicy and the chicken was a little dry. Otherwise, it had good flavor. This restaurant had a much more reasonable price range compared to the Italian places in the North End in Boston, so it's perfect for college students. It was packed, it is a small place, can probably accommodate around 30 people, the seating is too close to each other though. This place was so good-- I went with a party of 4 on a Sunday night, and although there was a bit of a wait for a table, we really didn't mind it especially when we got our food. They took our order before we got a table so that the food would come out sooner, which we super appreciated. I got the pad Thai with tofu, the kapow dumplings (they asked if I wanted steamed or fried and I got fried, which meant they were super crunchy and yummy), and the Thai tea lemonade. My friends got the chicken fried rice and the tofu basil fried rice. They really nailed the flavors and textures with everything. I would say my favorite thing was the Thai tea lemonade! It was not too sweet and very refreshing :) a perfect pairing with the heavy food I was eating. A small note, too: they refilled our waters all the time, which just reflected how thoughtful they are. Overall I love this place, the staff couldn't be friendlier or more attentive, and for a busy Sunday night they were so efficient and just wonderful.
