We ordered mushroom salad, pad paa (a scrumptious concoction of veggies in sauce that comes with jasmine rice), crab fried rice, roasted brussel sprouts, grilled pork cheek, chicken ka praw. The order was ready for pickup within 30 minutes (which is what it predicted online). The food was freshly made, hot, ready to go at 8 p.m. and the staff were friendly and helpful. We had a great experience at Mahaniyom. The service was excellent, and one thing I really appreciated was that the food wasn't overly salty or under-seasoned--it was well balanced. The fried chicken skin was a standout. The crispy skin paired perfectly with a cold beer. The Pad Thai was also delicious, the Brussels sprouts were wonderfully crispy with a simple but flavorful seasoning, and the beef Massaman curry was rich and comforting--I'd definitely recommend ordering a bowl of rice to go with it. The pork cheek was incredibly tender and very filling. Not every dish was a hit, though. The crab fried rice was a bit disappointing. It was essentially regular fried rice with just a few pieces of crab sprinkled on top, so it didn't feel worth ordering. The crab curry was also a letdown. If you do order it, I'd recommend having it with rice instead of the rice noodles, as I think that would make it more enjoyable. Good food and drinks but vibes were more bar like than restaurant. Drinks are tasty and had some interesting combinations. We snagged a reservation but the only one available was for 10pm. Not sure if the music is turned up all night but at 10pm it was hard to hear each other talk. I think my favorite was the pad Thai and curry with the chicken skin being a close second. Portions range from a light tapa to a full portion. We definitely were hungry and ordered too much for two but we happily took home leftovers. I did not reserve a table, but called ahead to see if there would be a wait. When we got there, they said a table would be 20 min wait or if we sit on the ledge by the window, we can get seated immediately. It was just me and my fiancé so we sat by the window. We ordered 3 dishes. The larb ped, pad paa, kang puu. The larb ped was minced duck. I thought it tasted really flavorful. Pad paa was a jungle curry paste with a lot of different vegetables. Came here on a Saturday afternoon and was able to get a seat at the bar immediately. It was busy but you probably could have gotten a table if you waited for a short bit. Still, the bar had free seats so no problem with lunch seating for us! We ordered the salt and pepper pork cheek, crispy chicken skin, and massaman curry and everything was great! Salt and pepper pork cheek ($17) - with some spicy peppers and cilantro, this pork was wonderfully crispy and had a good balance of meat and fat. Although some pieces were a little dry from being fried, it was overall a good dish. The size was a bit small though for the price. Beef Massaman ($15) - LOVE this curry and love that it comes with roti too. The coconut cream was nice and sweet while it still had some spice. The beef was tender and fall apart, and the crispy shallots on top added some nice texture. The roti was crispy and had a nice chew - I wish there was a little more roti but overall a great dish. Crispy Chicken Skin ($9) - this came with a sweet chili sauce for dipping and was really crispy! I don't think the actual chicken skin was seasoned though so it was a bit bland without the sauce. Still, it hit the spot for something crunchy and fried. We also had a $3 sticky rice which was good and a nice addition to the pork and beef dishes. Overall, the dishes were great! It was fairly difficult to get a good reservation here, so the experience was a bit disappointing. I felt the curries tasted on par with other Thai spots in the area, and the drinks sounded better on paper than they really were. The restaurant is small, dimly lit, intimate, and the service was good. The pomelo salad was my favorite, so fresh and balanced and the shrimp inside were cooked perfectly. I thought they were very sweet with a strong coconut milk base, which I personally don't like but if you do, get the crab curry. The fried chicken skin was unimpressive. Came here yesterday with 3 others for a 7:30pm reservation that I booked a month in advance. Otherwise, you're looking at a 4pm or 10pm reservation. Found street parking easily on surrounding streets. The restaurant is small, with low tables, high tables, and bar seating. The other reviewers are accurate in saying that the table next to you is only a few inches away. For 4 of us, we ordered 2 Thai iced teas, khao tang na tung (rice crackers), jor puu, kai tod had yai (fried chicken), beef massaman, classic pad thai, and crab fried rice. I was not a huge fan of the rice crackers as they tasted a bit bland. Standouts were the crab fried rice and the beef massaman. Jor puu was good, the fried chicken was good, although it seemed less fried and more grilled. Pad thai was average to me as were the Thai iced teas. Overall, was a good meal and we left satisfied and full. But I don't think it was exceptional enough to warrant a month-long waitlist for a normal dinner time, although I'm sure much of this is due to making Bib Gourmand recently. "Best Thai Restaurant" in "Best of Boston 2025"! I met up with colleagues so that we can order more dishes; everyone was very satisfied. Yum Som O (Pomelo Salad): Absolutely divine! So delicious it brought tears to my eyes... The sweet and sour juiciness of the grapefruit, the crisp and oily aroma of the fried shallots, the crunchy and fatty aroma of the cashews, the subtle sweetness and fragrance of the roasted coconut, the umami and grainy texture of the shrimp flakes, the savoriness and slightly sweetness of the fish sauce, the slight spiciness of the chili... the layers were incredibly rich and perfectly balanced, a truly delightful experience. Salted Pepper Pork Cheek: The seasoning was layered, not just salt and pepper, but also leaving a complex aroma of cilantro stems, garlic, and shallots in the aftertaste; the slight spiciness made it perfect with drinks. But wouldn't it be better with pork belly? The cheek meat wasn't that fatty, making it more suitable for grilling; frying resulted in a dry and hard texture rather than crispiness, and the oily flavor wasn't strong enough. Kai Tod Had Yai Sticky Rice: My first time trying Thai fried chicken. It was juicy but not very so, the crust was a bit hard, and the lemongrass flavor wasn't very prominent. Eating it with sticky rice is recommend, that way is definitely authentic, but I really didn't understand how these two dry ingredients blend with each other. Beef Massaman: The beef was stewed until tender and flavorful, and the Massaman curry was a bit peculiar! It was sweet and sour at first, with a pineapple-like fruity aroma, layered with a rich milky flavor. It was the first time I'd ever had curry like this; paired with roti, it reminded me of the "Indian flying bread印度飛餅" in most of the Cantonese restaurants from my childhood. Crab Fried Rice: The first bite was amazing! The freshly cooked fried rice was still steaming hot, each grain distinct, fragrant but not greasy, with the sweetness of the crab meat bursting in the aftertaste; a touch of fish sauce added a striking sweet and umami flavor, and a rich fermented aroma. But after a few more bites, as it cooled slightly, the rice became a bit too soft, and the wok hei鑊氣 (wok aroma) diminished considerably. If the rice wasn't pre-coated by the egg yolk before going into the wok, the fried rice would be a bit lacking. Classic Pad Thai: Actually, I think it's more "fancy" than "classic", but I was so happy to finally have Pad Thai in Boston area that wasn't overly sour! The rice noodles were stir-fried with a wonderful wok hei, the sweetness of the onions and palm sugar was prominent, and the crushed shrimp and peanuts added layers of savory flavor. The staff were really nice and helpful and it wasn't too loud even though it was a pretty small restaurant. They said that for 3 people they estimated 4-5 dishes to share would be good, but we only got 3 and still felt really full. Came here for an early dinner on a weekend at 5pm and I only had to wait 5-10 minutes without a reservation for a party of 1. I got seated at the bar and the bartenders were very nice and helpful with recommendations on food and drinks. I got the beef panang which was delicious and the kin na ree drink which was nice and strong. I also ordered the salted pepper pork cheek after finishing my main and drink because I really wanted an additional item. While it was nicely flavored, it was little too charred/overcooked which made it hard to chew. I've been to Mahaniyom a few times now and it's still one of my favorite restaurants to recommend. It's a smaller space with intimate but lively atmosphere. Dinner time is really fun because they turn up the music and the restaurant is darker. They also make really fun and delicious cocktails. The waitstaff are always friendly and attentive. I have never had a bad experience with service. My friends and I usually eat family-style and share everything. I've yet to find a dish that I do not like The green papaya salad with soft shell crab was so good. It was a perfect contrast to the other sauce-heavy dishes. When we picked up the food, the inside of the restaurant looked really nice and it was very busy for a Friday night, so I'd definitely recommend reservations on the weekends. Also to note, its cramped but not as bad as NY where you have to share your table with other parties. Oysters - Cotuit (Nantucket, MA) - highly recommend if you eat raw oysters. All the side sauces are great with local oysters and I love that it's from Nantucket. Just thinking of it is making me crave it. Adding fried onions gave it a nice crunch to just traditional raw Northeastern oysters. Pad Thai - delicious and perfectly seasoned. Not a lot and not overall sweet. If you have a peanut allergy then just let them know to not include any. For those who with tree-nut allergen, you will be fine with this dish. I like that they actually included fresh bean sprouts and shrimps. Opt of out of tofu if you have a soy allergen. Crab fried rice - oh so delicious with real crab meat. I enjoyed this a lot and would get it again, next time I am here. Eating some cucumbers on the side satisfy what the back of my mind where I can already hear my Asian mom yelling at me for not eating enough veggies. My personal favorite of the night was the fried chive cake - I was initially super skeptical because it looked just okay but I loved the taste and texture! The pork cheek was way too salty & a bit tough to chew. The Pad Thai seasoning was tasty, but there were so many undercooked noodles that it was texturally unpleasant. Also, it only came with three pieces of shrimp which is disappointing considering how the shrimp is an additional $4 charge. The main redeeming dish was the chicken skin which was absolutely delicious. Don't really see myself coming back here, especially since Merai is right around the corner. read more

Id give this place a 3.5, not because anything was bad but because nothing really stood out. The ambiance was probably my favorite with a trendy lounge vibe, though it is loud and somewhat hard to have a conversation when at a table. This might not be a problem depending on why youre there, but something to keep in mind. Given that our table had a shellfish allergy, I appreciated being told if shellfish was used in the food as it wasn't listed on the menu for items like the beef massaman. The food is where I was a bit disappointed as I had been looking forward to coming here for sometime and jumped on any time slot I could grab. I ordered the Booze Sa Baa for a refreshing cocktail and found it to be a little more on the sour side - not bad but not something Id order a second of. For food, we ordered the fried chive cake to start. This was my favorite and what felt like the most innovative as the cake consisted of small cubes and an oyster dipping sauce. We also ordered bbq crispy pork over rice which was fine, and the chicken ka-paw that again felt just fine nothing stood out and it leaned heavy in the spicy side as the menu suggested. The entree I probably enjoyed the most was the pad Thai which was a hint of sweet with slightly longer noodles than takeout pad Thai. Again while it was good, it didn't feel any better/more elevated than takeout pad thai. My biggest disappointment was more that I was hoping for a more innovative meal and less items that felt available via any other Thai restaurant - especially given the prices. Our credit card offered an unbeatable deal to dine at Mahaniyom, so we braved the BU bridge at rush hour and enjoyed dinner there. The GOOD: We ordered Green papaya Pad Thai and Chicken Ka Praw. Both were absolutely delicious, well prepared, and were both way bigger than "small plates." Unfortunately, although tasty, the dishes were "Thai'ish" but not authentic (we've been to Thailand numerous times), like many Thai restaurants that tailor their spicing for American audiences. The service was excellent. The BAD: WAY TOO CROWDED. You'll be having dinner just 2 feet away from the person next to you. The tables and guests are squeezed in, and the restaurant is super LOUD. Turned out to not be the ideal seating, as the bartender was making a drink that involved creating smoke that ended up being directed straight at our faces as we ate... prob not intentional but a muscle memory thing? Would have been okay if there was some form of an apology rather than watching us as we coughed but oh well. Service other than that was pretty good. Food was yummy with great flavors. TLDR: OMG THIS PLACE IS AMAZING. The food, the vibe, the cocktails, the service... literally everything is "WICKED GOOD" here!! I took some photos but they didn't do justice. (We also forgot to take photos midway through our meal bc we were way too busy eating!) The Crispy Chicken Skin was divine. I'm sure it's terrible for your body but it's oh so good for the soul. The Chicken Ka-Praw (one of our favorite Thai dishes) was not Thai spicy but it was definitely spicier than what my (white) bf was used to so he suffered a little. It was still very delicious though! One of our absolute favorites was the Crispy Pork Belly with Shrimp Paste (Moo Krob Pad Kapi)! It was excellent with the Jasmine Rice.
