For the amount of money you pay, you should be getting way more. The place is old and run down (from what it used to be) and the nickle and diming is unreal. We booked a two room suite with kitchen (due to dietary restrictions which Kalahari cannot accommodate). I had reached out to get a list of items provided in the kitchen to know what I would need to pack in order to prepare a dinner and breakfast for 6 people. The following are items in the unit versus what was supposed to be provided. - 4 steak knives, not 6 - 8 spoons, not 12 - 6 forks, not 12 - 11 knives, not 12 - No whisk (I was making a salad dressing, so I did need this and did not pack one) - 10 dinner plates, not 12 - 4 coffee mugs, not 6 - No kitchen towels (I had to use a bathing towel to place all of our washed dishes, and another for drying) - No dishwasher detergent (I planned to run it before we left, but there wasn't anything available). My guess is this is why dishes were so dirty. If guests cannot run the dishwasher, housekeeping probably has to do this in addition to their other chores. In addition, the one pot we used (I brought my own stock pot, large pan, and colander), the glass lid was disgusting, so we washed that. We also hand washed everything else we needed before using it since the cleanliness was lacking. I should have taken a pic, but we were hungry and I wanted to get dinner started. The dining table had a film on it, like it had not been properly cleaned in a while. Fortunately we packed Chlorox wipes and wiped down everything we planned on using. And the jets in the tub had noticable mold (pic of one, but all jets were dirty. And I didn't seek this out, it was visible while sitting on the toilet. I mentioned it to two other people and they had already noticed it as well). I know this may sound picky, but we didn't seek to find anything gross or look any further than obvious things we were using. So I imagine there was more dirtiness we didn't see. For the price per night, we expected to have all listed items and basic cleanliness. This will probably be our last trip to Kalahari as the quality has gone down, prices up, and so much nickle and diming. read more

While this isn't a place I would normally consider going to, we were at the convention center for a gymnastics meet and spent a day at the waterpark. Maybe it's because I went in with low expectations but I had a much better time than I thought I would. My kid disappeared for hours playing with her friends. Even after spending much of the day there, she didn't want to leave when we told her it was time to go. My husband and I rode a few water slides and they were more intense than we were expecting! We had fun, and though the wait times can get long. We also enjoyed spending time in the 21+ hot tub and relaxing with a drink. The food outside of the waterpark is what you would expect - severely overpriced and just ok, though the breakfast sandwiches from the place on the lower level were outstanding and a great value. Service is very friendly. The arcade is expensive, though laser tag was a huge hit with the kids. While I wouldn't make a weekend of it just to come here, it did exceed my expectations. Don't expect gourmet dining or reasonable prices. You will walk out broke and overstimulated but your kids will probably love it. read more

This was the worst stay I've ever had at Kalahari the picture show our first room that we walked into as soon as we got the text that our room was ready. It was pieces of ceiling and paint chips. They immediately found us another room however the AC didn't work maintenance man did come in to look at it and said it needs a new unit. We had to stay the night in that room. Our room was at 82° front desk only offered us a fan and that we could change rooms in the morning. It took them two hours to get us a fan. We should have got off at our money back for the first night it was there it was very unpleasant to sleep in a hot room when the outside temperature was over 90! All we got was a 100 dollars free game card! And 2 free pizza vouchers Also the lazy river was terrible with collage age men drunk they almost flipped my youngest out of the inner tube!! And the lifeguard just stood there and did absolutely nothing!!!! The smell of weed and people vaping inside the water park was ridiculous!!! Is this place fun? You bet...There is tons of fun for all ages here. But, why on Earth are their dangerous inner city teens harassing guests in the gym, hallways, and game area...Loitering in the bathrooms in groups of 3 or more??? I realize this is a huge place and you can't watch everybody but there are dangerous predators all over your establishment. Security and police were called multiple times for different unrelated incidents during our 3 night stay. Upon checkout, one person hogged over 7 carts and left their belongings on them. Have an employee hand out one cart per family. We were on the 3rd floor, so I needed a cart that was not available. I took half my belongings down by hand before a cart was available. Housekeeping also never made the beds or replaced the caffeinated coffee pods in the room. So, I left zero tip for them. In summary, this place's upside is AMAZING FUN. You come here to relax and go on the slides. Everything else I mentioned doesn't hold a candle to the amount of fun you can have here. read more

We have been coming here for years. We have come with a large group and just ourselves. Our favorite thing to do it come during the winter and get the big suit with the full kitchen and full fridge, the pull-out couch, and one bedroom. The kids take the pull out couch and we bring tons of food to cook. There are also nearby grocery stores in case you need more food or perishables. Especially since we also come during the summer. It is a good deal if you make use of the waterpark. We love the pub pizza. The restaurants are okay, but getting the room where you can cook is the best! We have been through so many renditions of this place it is crazy. We really miss the complimentary cookie time the most! They used to give you as many as you wish and you could decorate them with tons of frosting and sprinkles. I enjoy both the inside and outside water parks, and look forward to seeing how the hotel changes with each visit. Our favorite is their candy store in the lobby. No trip would be complete without buying Buckeye candies. read more

Third time here and I think it might be our last. We will be checking out Great Wolf Lodge instead. Rooms are starting to be dated. Lots of nicks and scratches all over the walls from use, dishwasher smells like sewer when you start it. The games have gotten exponentially more expensive. For a family of four mini golf (8 holes) is $40. We had three problems during our stay: 1. We were charged $100 for towels we didn't take. I had to text to fix this. 2. We had to ask 4 times for cleaning service to come and when they came they didn't touch the beds. 3. The lock was broken on the balcony/ patio door in the room where our 5&7 year old were going to sleep. I had to ask multiple times for them to fix this safety hazard. When they did come, the lady was nice. 4. The $20 non alcoholic milkshake a got had stale ingredients and was more whipped cream than milkshake. Despite getting it to go, the attendant bringing my shake from the kitchen to the to go order area expected a tip? It wasn't very good either. If I'm paying luxury prices, I want to see quality ingredients. 5. Last time we were here, we were astounded at the lack of health food options, especially for children. Besides the $100 for 4 people breakfast buffet (which even then was sparse with just grilled zucchini, sautéed mushrooms and raw oranges) we didn't see a lot of fruits and veggies. We brought food this time and it was so much better and cheaper. We were thankful that they offered us a closer room that was a 2 bedroom but since it doesn't have a kitchen, we stuck with/ a 1 bed room suite with kitchen. It was a super long walk, but good exercise. Their texting service is nice too. Unfortunately I had to use it a LOT due to problems and felt like I was constantly in my phone due to problems. There were some new games that were fun, but the prices all went up since last time and the facilities and prompt service just didn't match. Wave pool had things floating in it (I mean this is probably anywhere with kids) and the elevators and floors were sticky. We've truly enjoyed Kalahari except for the outrageously priced spa ($75 for 30 mins and with a lady insulting a pregnant woman) in the past. The staff used to be amazing now when u arrive there are machines you use to check yourself in....also this is howost of their restaurants work also....but the screen will ask for a tip for the non human interaction you are getting......they have steps in-between their bridge that is supposed to make things easier but with stairs no...... prices are sky high almost 10 bucks for side of fries 5 dollars for bag of chips 8.50 foe small 4 pack of cookies......run not worth it and water park closes at 9 when cant get to it till 4:pm read more

Me and my family went back after having a terrible experience last year. This year was even worse. The room they gave us smelled like vomit and it was so dirty. I demanded a new room and they gave us one along with a few gift cards for food and games. They made it right but I will never go back to this place. It's filthy and way over priced. Summer review I took 3 young kids and they all had a great time. We visited on a Friday and were pleasantly surprised it was not all that busy. We arrived at opening to save a spot for our things by the wave pool. Lots of activities for kids of all ages. Most of the pools are around 3 foot deep or less so it was great for young kids. They had slides for all different types of people from tubes, mat and family style. The lazy river was a favorite. Plus the outdoor area had things other than water to have fun with basketball court and foam parties at certain times. We also had discounted tickets so it made it more affordable. read more

Waterpark? Fine. Everything else? Kind of a poor experience. Check-in took forever at kiosks that were seemingly slower than the fastest computer in 2001. We did a day trip for the fun of the slides and had a blast! My only recommendations were the air temperature was a bit cold and the water temperature was also too cold, especially for the winter. I expected all the pools to be the temperature of the hot tub and the hot tub to be even warmer! This was my second time at Kalahari and I have to say this time wasn't as great as the first! First they check your bags when you enter the water park, it felt like TSA was searching my stuff, then they made me throw away the redbull that I JUST BOUGHT (to enter the water park) at there over priced store upstairs! I was beyond upset because after I entered the water park I seen all the people with there star bucks coffee cups/ beverages and "outside" drinks in there Stanley and Owala water bottles..... then one of the life guards made my son take off his life vest that WAS approved the day PRIOR by another life guard and put on one of theirs. I do feel like resort was not clean had a smell. maybe a carpet cleaner throughout resort. when we got food at the blux waiter was so offended by our presence, would not even take our order and accusing us of not knowing what we wanted to order. security was called. I was here a few years ago and I had a blast. My brothers and I came here earlier this last week on Wednesday and stayed until Thursday morning before leaving. I understand that some of the water part was under construction and we tried to make the best of it. It really sucked to find out that they didn't allow 4 people anymore for the water slides. The fact we have to wait 5-7 mins even now for a tube to get on the water slides and then find out it's only 2 people only. I remember when it was 4. Overall maybe next time things will be a lot smoother and better as in regards to the water park. We did try the 7D game, which did have some technical difficulties. But it still was fun. The mini golf glow in the dark was fun. Had no issues. The food at the restaurant was amazing. Had burgers, Mac and cheese and Pina colada. The room was super nice but may have to do a lot of walking depending where your room is at. But overall hope to try it again another time when everything is a little bit more functional. Forced to rent a cabana for $500.00 due to lack of seating, which is a rip off! Cabanas in Vegas rent are cheap and better pools. One large pizza and a few drinks - $100.00? Again, not enough to feed a family of four and the pizza was mediocre. First visit and will not return, nor recommend to anyone. read more

BUG INFESTED!!!!! I alerted the front desk and they didn't even seem surprised, and did not make an effort to better the situation. I was not accommodated as a disabled person once during our stay. Our stay ended with my son needing to be transported to the hospital by ambulance due to a reaction he had to something there. I asked the front desk to call ems, then 10 minutes later was informed that their contracted EMT was no longer on site and asked if I wanted an EMS called TEN MINIUTES AFTER REQUESTING ONE FOR A CHILD GOING INTO ANAPHYLACTIC SHOCK. Ok, buckle up, you're about to get the good, the bad, and the ugly! As a single mom with four kiddos I would never ever be able to afford this place; however, I'm forced to attend this hotel yearly for a conference. My older two kids had other obligations so for once I allowed my younger two to tag along. They are old enough to hit the water park on their own while I'm in classes so everyone wins!! We checked in easily and had a room in the first floor which was nice because it was close to everything. The room was fantastic and clean, no complaints at all in that area. The bathtub was SO BIG I couldn't even fill it all the way for a bath! The kids headed to the water park and I headed to my conference. I was super shocked an hour later when they texted me that they were back at the room. They had already done everything they wanted and were tired! Hah! Wait until they're old!!!! After my classes we hit up B~Lux grill and were pleasantly surprised (see review for it). After we were full I did something we don't get to do often and spent about $300 on a safari family pass in the arcade. I'll do a separate review there too. I have to say I think the arcade and activities were the stars of the trip. We got to to all kinds of fun things together then headed back to the room. The beds were awful! I've never slept on such a hard bed. The next day I had time to hit the water park with the kiddos. We rented a locker for $20!!! But we were able to get in and out of it as needed. We did EVERYTHING! I completely understood then why they were tired lol. So. Many. stairs!!! This old girl was whooped!!! But we had a great time. We even did the surf board thing and i stayed on a bit!!! After all the up and down I really just wanted to swim and relax but there is really no place to do that. The wave pool is fun but definitely not relaxing when the waves are working. If I was making a vacation out of this i would rent a cabana just to have a calm place to chill. We got a pizza and took it back to the room to chill for the night. That's when I noticed that they were removing beds and other furniture items from the rooms near me. Not too long after, the party started. They had an organization that literally turned the hall into one big party, room to room bar hopping and food. Fine for the evening but when they were still going at 1am I was getting a little annoyed. I politely asked if they could at least please close the door do we could sleep and they went off on me. I was not happy at all. Why would the hotel allow them to do that when they have areas already for that purpose that don't disturb guest rooms? They finished around 3am and I was able to sleep. All in all it's not a bad place just super expensive and non relaxing. I could do a day or two here but no more. There were outdoor activities but it was too dang hot. do It once to say you've done it while your kids are young and filled with wonder ! read more

I went here a while back with a friend and his kids, it's a nice hotel and water park for sure. I had no idea it even existed or that it was as popular with families or even adults too. It was of course teeming with mostly kids and for someone without kids, would seem like a nightmare on elm street, as kids were running around frantically and manically trying to get into lines for the same or next water ride. My favorite was the lazy river since that was all chilled and everyone was at the mercy of the speed of the lazy river in the floats. The wave pool was a madhouse of frenzied and half wild kids trying to get as close to the biggest waves and as expected would flail their arms and hit anyone nearby in utter excitement. I did the log 4 seater raft ride down the big slide, was also a ridiculously long line, it was fun. Of all of the rides I have learned the lazy river is much more my speed. They do have some eating spots in the middle of the pool area. The rooms are nice and they have double rooms joined by a suite door. Rooms are a bit pricey but then again it's a water park hotel, quite a recreational event and spot anyways. read more

One of the best water parks we have visited in Ohio Michigan areas.. Great place for mini staycation with family or group of friends.. They provide wrist bands for each guest during check-in .. If you wish you can load wrist bands with money so you can use it for purchase inside the park.. Water Park : Water park is huge with different type of activities and rides that entertain kids and adults .. Lines and wait times for few rides were long and insane .. Lazy river, Hot tub sauna (there were 3 for different age appropriate ones), Wave pool (Huge pool with waves ) were my favorites other than the rides .. Locker - They provide lockers for 25$ which includes a 5$ refundable deposit We also did plenty of rounds of the lazy river.. We enjoyed Indoor and Outdoor hot tubs, it was nice outside as the weather was cold and the water was hot.. Cabana : You can also rent a cabana if you are going on. A busy day. At times there isn't a table to be found in the waterpark, so you have little choice of where to leave your belongings.. Staff were walking around and tossing dirty towels. Very clean waterpark and ample tables, can fit a lot of people.. Also there were plenty of life jackets in different sizes .. The bathrooms/showers/changing rooms were all well maintained .. Awesome environment and lot of fun making memories .. It was a great trip, we will be back !! read more

I'm a little mystified at all the low ratings that people are leaving. If you take the time to review their website before you get here you'll know what you're getting into. The waterpark has a variety of experiences for all different age groups. The aggressive slides are a lot of fun, but you'll probably be waiting in line more than a few minutes to do them. The staff are attentive and they take the time to explain everything to you if you're a newcomer. The jungle gym, lazy river, and wave pool are great for families with little kids. Again there are plenty of staff watching out for everyone's safety. One of my children is autistic, and I was so pleased that Trey took the time to work with him on the bodyboard experience. Trey was polite and kind to my son and I really appreciated it! There's all kinds of places to sit, and there's even some decent food to be had here, overpriced of course. We will definitely consider coming back. read more

Kalahari is NOT sensory friendly We took a trip to Kalahari Sandusky Ohio which apparently has been "sensory friendly " since 2019-2020. Prior to arrival we looked on the website and they have a list of items you can request at the desk. I called ahead of time to make sure we reserved what we thought would help our daughter, after being hung up and transferred on three different occasions due to workers being unaware of what we were referring to; we were told we have to wait until check in to request these items. When we arrived to get our wristbands we were directed to the kiosk to check instead. We became aware at the kiosk to the addition deposit required for incidentals that we WERE NOT AWARE OF. The person in front of me in line, her credit card declined due to not being aware of this either. After kiosk checking in we had to go wait in line due to receiving the sensory items. We were the first in line and waited a half hour to ask about these. The workers still didn't know what we were referring to. We proceeded to just come back to the desk later when there was a supervisor there. Walking into the park, it was extremely crowded and hard to walk around in some spots. We tried visiting the sensory room after and there was a passcode that our wristbands did NOT OPEN. Later that afternoon we went to the desk, and there was only a nightlight, plug outlets, and an eye mask. There was no headphones, door alarms, weighted blankets or identifying wrist bands available as previously stated. In addition to this we were then notified they required an ADDITIONAL DEPOSIT for the use of these items. That night at 11:30 we had someone jump the partition on our balcony and bang on our door. We left at 5am this morning, I have tried multiple times to call the hotel and it just keeps going back to the automatic operator. We are extremely disappointed that we were looking for a sensory friendly experience for our family, and we did not receive it. Will be advocating for the Sensory friendly certificate to be removed. read more

I have an issue with one of your employees. Yesterday my 17 year old daughter was at your location. She was going on the Dawn Breaker ride. I understand that the heavier person is supposed to sit in the back and they are the same size. While she was discussing with her boyfriend who would sit in the back the worker looked over at her, looked her up and down and butt in and said she was "clearly bigger" and needed to sit in the back. Is that how employees are taught to speak to people? To be rude and derogatory? For the record they are the same size but that does not weigh in to my comment. I find it appalling and rude that an employee would say that to somebody. It was beyond uncalled for and very upsetting to her. read more

As good as any pleather park indoor or outdoor as I have ever been too. My only complaint is majority of the workers had no personality at all and were very bland. We stayed at the Sandusky OH location. It was absolutely not worth the money. No bell service to bring luggage to room. Pretty big ant infestation in room. They sent someone up to take care of it pretty quickly. We couldn't use the room for several hours as it was treated. Lifeguards ruined my 8 year old sons time by continuing to measure him as he swam in the SAME wave pool to ensure that he was tall enough to NOT use swimmies. And THEN on the final day a lifeguard tried to severely limit his enjoyment even more by making a new rule apply to him stating that he needed to stay within "arms reach" of his parents, because, in the lifeguards own words "that's how we treat all kids with disabilities here." No one knew how to get him something to identify him as being tall enough without the constant measuring. My son is an excellent swimmer, and the constant harassment really ruined his time and affected his esteem. Cut the heel of my foot on the sharp drain plug in the tub/shower of my hotel room. I'll try to include a pic of that injury. The blonde female manager at their on-site Italian restaurant glared at myself and my wife and family as we waited at the front of their restaurant waiting for them to find a table to accommodate us and our family Wonderfold wagon that we transport the kids around in. She continued the mean mugging through our meal. Our server Anthony was great and so was the food. They tout their wrist bands as a way to pay for your stay without carrying cash or cards. Sounds great right? Except if you rent a Cabana. If you do that, you then need your ID and the card you reserved it with when you get to the pool to check in. Oh yeah, at a certain point the bands stopped working for purchases. That's super convenient too when you're counting on being able to use them for purchases and you're REAL far away from your room where all of your credit cards are lol. The kiddie pool had Kalahari beach chairs wedged into different areas at tops and bottoms of slides that they were trying to designate as out of order. I mean I guess that's what they were there for. There were no signs stating it, and being that I only speak English I wasn't able to communicate with the lifeguards in that area who did not speak English as they marched around like stormtroopers stepping over kids as if they were human debris laying in their way. The chairs were more of a hazard than a safety measure. There were many attractions that were closed, in disrepair, or only partially operable during our stay. Had breakfast at their country kitchen type restaurant. It was great and so was our server Jennifer. I spent about 5k on this 4 day/3 night vacay. That was about 4 thousand too much. Last evening was our 1st night back at home from Kalahari and all 3 of my small children seem to have chemical irriation rashes and some sort of weird pink eye thing going on. In fact, my wife and I have the eye thing too. In addition to that, my 3 year old son vomited all through the night. I won't be back to Kalahari. read more

While we spent less than two hours in it, I can tell you that the Water park at Kalahari leaves much to be desired. Not many tube rides for older kids and didn't live up to its self-proclaimed accolades. The worst part, however, was the ambivalent management (Adrian and Ridley) that could care less how our first time stay was. There were people frying fish in the adjoining room next to us that was venting straight into our room. It was so pungent that it made my son nauseous and our entire family uncomfortable. Despite calling twice to the front desk to ask to be moved to another room or some kind of remedy to help with the smell, we were basically told to deal with it. We decided to book at great Wolf Lodge three hours away for the following day and just get a local night stay so that we didn't have to deal with the smell and the poor service. (The GWL in Sandusky was booked for the weekend but we were able to get the one in mason, oh for the following night through the rest of our vacation). Before the fried fish incident, we spent over $200 at one of their restaurants and build a bear. Yet, when we went to the front desk to leave, they refused to refund us for the evening because 2 out of 4 people within our party had checked in at the waterpark and because we "spent time in the room." It cost us over $544 and a 6 hour round trip drive for a terrible experience that we will never be back to repeat. This was not what I was expecting as a first time - and now last time - guest. Great Wolf Lodge is getting our business for the rest of this weekend and furthermore anytime we want to go to an indoor waterpark. read more

I've read most of the reviews here and concur with the statement that is a very expensive park, but filled with trashy people. The food in the indoor water park was subpar - think hospital cafeteria. They do not allow you to bring in your own snacks or water. I would recommend going to a local restaurant to eat. The indoor water park has a nice area for adults to hang out in a hot tub and drink adult beverages from the bar. Kids love the rides and made some friends. Just a small comment on the reviews here, please stop calling your children"kiddos". It's creepy and cringe. read more

Quick surprise Spring Break trip with the kiddos to Kalahari Waterpark Resort. We arrived late in the day 11ish pm so there was no one at the front desk when we arrived. I ended up calling the help text number displayed on the lobby info screens to get a physical desk attendant. The attendant was friendly when he arrived and assisted us with check in and comped my 2 kiddos with a $50 arcade pass after having a small chat about my kiddos were not aware that we were coming here and he send the physical excitement of my bouncy 8 year old. We arrived in our room which appeared cleaned to find used water bottles on the dresser an used washcloths in the bathroom. Due to being exhausted from the drive time and long fun day ahead of us I decided to inform the front desk of the not fully cleaned room the following day. My kids and I fully enjoyed the indoor water park and arcade room , due to the season the outside water park and excursions were not open during our stay. We dinned at the buffet restaurants for breakfast and B Lux Grill for lunch both had decent fares an food was ok. Don't expect a five star meals they cater to quick family friendly meals. Inside the waterpark 2 refillable slushy and 3 bags of chips will run you a little over 45 bucks. Cheers and I am quite sure my margarita did not have any alcohol in it . All waterpark staff were not the friendliest (but I chopped it up to they are wet and dealing with loud hyped up kiddos everyday so I'm sure I wouldn't be a bright ray of sunshine either) but all other staff were pleasant so I guess it even it's self out ‍. Just preplan 11am check out but still have access to the waterpark until 3pm with changing into dry clothing. Check out was a breeze I informed the front desk of the misfortunes of the used items in the room and received apologies just hoping unclean rooms are not the normal due to my kiddos really are looking forward to returning with the rest of our family during the summer. read more

WOULD GIVE ZERO STARS IF I COULD!!!!!!! One of the worst experiences I have ever had. My WHOLE family was on a trip to this resort and had to cut the trip short because of ROACHES AND BED BUGS. My child had to go to the hospital because of severe bed bug bites. She is now hospitalized because of her reaction to them. On top of that our room service took 3 hours. We also never received a refund or even an apology. You WILL be hearing from my attorney Kalahari!!!!!!!! read more
