This visit is a tradition for my girls and I. I have had a 5-star experience 100% of the time both online and at all the various stores and locations till our most recent visit to Kate Spade at Caesars Palace last Friday, November 29th. Like always - all the sales representatives were welcoming, attentive, and helpful. They not only assisted us but allowed us time to peruse the wonderful and skillfully produced items available at the store. Our experience was perfect as usual until I encountered the cashier - Hyacinth S. At the very start I felt Hyacinth was rushing me to place our order despite the fact we were still shopping. At one point, I stepped away from her and started perusing the store with the assistance of other sales representatives. But the very upsetting experience was when she informed me my payment was denied by my credit card. This took me by surprise since I just used my credit card on other purchases in Las Vegas and I had checked my account that morning. When I asked for her to try again she declined to do so and asked for another form of payment. She showed no respect, empathy or consideration. Already embarrassed, I gave her another card to complete the transaction and immediately called my Citibank to see what was happening. According to Citibank, the transaction was entered, was pending for a short while and that Kate Spade withdrew/declined the activity on their part. Citibank said there was nothing wrong with the card and I can continue to use it whenever I was ready to do so. I promptly returned to Hyacinth to see explain happened and to move the charges to the credit card of my choice. Again - with no signs of empathy or consideration Hyacinth denied Kate Spade had anything to do with this denial and that the credit card had denied the payment. Hyacinth's lack of consideration was not the only surprise for me that day. She said she did not know what happened and couldn't really explain why my payment would not go through. She said it was something to do with the machine. One of my pet peeves is when someone of authority says, "I don't know." When I asked for the manager she said she was the manager. Now that was a shocker. How can a manager say, "I don't know?" So I asked if I can return the items and charge them to my Citibank Card. With neither emotion nor empathy to me, she reluctantly acquiesced. Of course this time, the charges went through without a problem. You would think she would show some remorse or perhaps consideration but I heard no apology at all. You would think Kate Spade would train their managers about situations like this - it is embarrassing and to have a manager show no empathy at all is even worse. She was condescending during a very embarrassing time for a returning customer. Kate Spade items are not inexpensive - I was hoping to receive great customer as usual but instead had an embarrassing experience from an ill-trained manager. I only had a couple of hours to shop this Friday and I chose to go to Kate Spade because of previously great experience but this transaction was not only embarrassing and frustrating - it also took much longer than I expected. What a waste of my time. What a disappointing experience.

I also saw several transactions taking place. Folks were purchasing okay. In conversation, I was told pieces on display were ranged $30k and up. And way up like $150k for some pieces. All art pieces are attributed to the artists--you know exactly who made them and some of their background. Transparency is one of their values. I purchased a small sand painting, kachina doll, and small vase and spent less than $150. I am not Native American but I appreciate the art and storytelling of the Navajo Nation (ever since I was a child!) and understand that purchasing art from a source that respects the artists is important and this is definitely the place.
