Wow I can't say enough great things about Ms. Kamala. She was great! She was patient and helpful throughout the trial process and my wedding henna. Every stroke was detailed and beautiful. She is a perfectionist and takes pride in her work which is very important when selecting a henna artist for your bridal henna. Be prepared that your wedding henna will take hours because she does not rush her work but perfects the details. She makes her own henna with essential oils and the stain came out the way I wanted. She was great with all my guests for Mehendi night as well down to the last guest. I would recommend her to anyone. read more

Kamala is definitely a very talented henna artist and I do some henna art myself so I know how hard it is to do what she does. She's super speedy and can finish a full hand of henna in 5-10minutes max - which is BRILLIANT! I've seen her work at an engagement and a bridal party now and both times most of the people were very satisfied. She's great with kids too and adds glitter for them during evening parties as well. I posted pictures of the front and back of my hands as they looked 48 hours after the henna application. For the full hands on both the left and right palm she charges $25 and for the full hands + veils on the back of the hands = $40. It came out pricey, but the henna darkened really well the next day and I only had it on about 4 hours. My only reason for docking a star is that the henna I use is much thinner than what she uses. I think the thinner henna honestly looks a lot better once the color has set in. My hands looked gorgeous when the henna was still drying on them, but now that it's just the color, I'm not as happy with the design/style. It's all relative though depending on your taste, so you can see the pictures and judge for yourself :) She's definitely worth hiring if you're looking to throw henna party for a good price and get reliable and quick service to please all your guests! read more

I had my bridal mehndi done from Kamala last year and she was amazing, i went for a trial prior to the wedding and I loved the way the color and design turned out. We were in constant communication about what i wanted and she informed me well before the wedding how long it would take, the pricing as well as other great tips. On my mehndi night, she came on time, did my mehndi for 6 straight hours, she gave me great advice on how to wrap it overnight and how to make it come out darkest the next day. I reviewed many henna artists to look for an artist for my wedding. After meeting Kamala at a bridal show, I completely stopped my search and kept her card aside. A few months later, I booked Kamala for my wedding and she was such a positive part of my event. She spent a relaxing consultation session with me determining my needs and desires for my wedding henna. She came to my home for the session with the feet and helped me determine the best timing for things at my henna party with my guests. She was exceedingly gracious, answered all my questions and was an absolute joy to work with. I would highly recommend her for any of your events. I love all the work presented on Kamala's website, I could go through all the pictures day after day and they would still never get old! I organized a henna party the day before my engagement party. I was happy that I was able to ask Kamala to come as the artist and her prices are pretty fair. Her speed and cleanliness is great. She comes up with great designs right on the spot! The only cons with her henna is that is doesn't last very long and it was as intricate as I would have liked. I was hoping it would have been somewhere between average and bridal intricacy. I was very cautious and left the henna on for several hours, let it flake off and didn't wash my hands until late, late at night. Even with all that care it only last about 4-5 days. I was okay with that as I really only wanted it to last for the party itself and it did. Overnight it caught a very deep color too which was really nice. Furthermore, Kamala is really talented with not only body art, but icing cakes. I saw on her Yelp page she iced a sheet cake which looked awesome! So I asked her to do the same for mine as well. I am a perfectionist when it comes to certain things and unfortunately the cake just didn't deliver. The icing she made was too runny so certain parts of the design pooled together. Although everyone at the party thought it looked awesome, I was a little disappointed that it was absolutely perfect. She was nice about it thought, she left me know what happened and didn't charge me for the cake icing. I appreciate that very much, but I am reluctant to ask her to ice a cake again... we'll see! I have been wanting to get a henna tattoo for awhile now. I finally decided to do it. I called Kamala up she said she could do it later that day (awesome). She works out of her house for individual appointments or comes to your wedding or party. Since I never had any henna work done I don't have anything to compare mine to, but I am extremely happy with the way it came out. I am going to be very sad when it is gone. I highly recommend Kamala. She is fantastic in every way. I needed a mehendi artist for my bridal mehendi and for the day before my wedding for my guests. From the beginning, she was prompt with emails and scheduling. I was asking last minute but she accommodated my schedule. She advised me on timings and ways to make the mehendi dark. Kamala is an amazingly talented artist and a true professional. When I was researching different henna artists to choose from, Kamala's website caught my attention. She has multiple galleries of her work and I was able to get a good understanding of the quality of her artistry. I called Kamala and was surprised how reasonably priced she was. She came to my house for one of my pre-wedding events and was very sweet and accommodating - she made me feel comfortable. Her work blew me away and I was getting compliments on my mendhi the entire day. She didn't rush through the work - but instead made sure every element of the designs were perfect. The color came out dark (but not black) and people even asked me to give them Kamala's information for their own events. My wedding was in Maui a month after one of my pre-wedding events here in the Bay Area. At first, I was going to have a friend of mine do my mendhi since henna artists in Maui are hard to find, but because I was so impressed with Kamala's work I wanted to find a way to have her do my mendhi. Knowing that Kamala couldn't come to Maui, I asked her if it was possible for the mendhi to stay on my hand for an entire week (since I was going to Maui a week before the wedding). True artist! I recently got my henna for Karva Chauth. I had called for an appointment when she was mostly booked, yet still made time for me, around 9:15 pm. She was very composed, sweet and quick! The henna was detailed, just like i wanted it. I wanted it to get "insanely dark" and she gave me tips to do so. I have never had my henna so perfect and dark as today:) I also found her pricing much much more reasonable than the other henna artists in the bay. Kamala set up a henna station at my 30th bday party last weekend. She was professional, punctual, and very sweet. On top of it all, she does incredible work- her henna designs were absolutely beautiful! We were shocked at how perfect and beautiful her work was with how quick she was doing it. After trial sessions with four different henna artists, I decided to go with Kamala for my bridal mehndhi. She was the only one that was the most experienced, did not rush through the trial, and very responsive and professional. During the trial, she tried three different henna mixtures to see what would work best on my skin and so I could decide which color I preferred. The day before the bridal session, she left me a vm confirming her appointment. She arrived on time and patiently worked on my hands and feet for almost 5 hours. She had brought the images that I had chosen and was well aware of the design I wanted. After my 5-hr session, she willingly did small designs for my mom and another auntie. Afterward, she left me instructions on how to take care of my mehndi. The next day, my mehendhi continued to get darker. It actually was in its darkest state two days after the session - just in time for the wedding! Both my hands/arms and feet turned out beautifully. I had chosen the darkest color from my trial, and my mehendhi was indeed very dark - almost black (which I personally like). The design itself was very intricate and everyone was amazed by the detail. A couple of women had mentioned it was one of the best designs they have seen. Kamala's henna work is absolutely amazing. She is a true artist. Kamala did my bridal henna for my July 2nd, 2011 wedding, and it was incredibly intricate, precise, and stunning. One week later, the color is still dark and the patterns look fresh. The backs of my arms and forearms look like they were done two days ago. After a lovely meeting with Kamala during which I chose a Ganapthi, a bride, various beautiful little peacocks, and other design elements, Kamala came home to do my bridal mehendi. I have to start off this review by saying that Kamala is a talented artist when it comes to her work, but the reason for the 1 star is purely based on her lack of professionalism and overall rude behavior. I originally hired another Mehndi artist for my wedding, but unfortunately she was unable to make it, so I was looking through a list of bay area henna artist and went to Kamala's sight and was impressed with her work. I meet her for the trial, in which she showed me pictures, asked for what I was looking for and came up with pricing. I thought this was going to be great, until we actually met for our Mehndi party. First thing she did wrong was complain from the start when I went to get her from the parking structure. She said, "I thought you lived in a home, not an apt." . What does that even have to do with anything. I thought that was strange. After this weird interaction, I took her to the mehndi party room and she set up and started working on my hand. She is fast. As family and friends came, she continued to finish up & was then able to work on everyone else. I thought everything was okay, until I heard family and friends tell me she was being short and rude saying things such as, "I didn't know there was going to be this many people...I worked since 9:00 am non-stop". Who complains to guests? That is very unprofessional. Not only did she do that to my guests, but later in the evening she said that to me. I realize she is working hard, but this is why you get paid. If you can't handle it, then don't book two parties on the same day. Another incident happened. My cousin's 6 yr old daughter had got her mehndi done. She was playing and it got messed up, which is understandable as she is a child. My cousin asked Kamala if she could fix it and with a very rude tone she said, "This is why I don't do kids". Basically the whole Mehndi night she was irritated, short and rude to all my guests. It was not fun. Then to top off the night, she didn't even finish my mehndi because she was tired. She said her hand was cramping and stated, "you should have told me how many people were going to be here, I would have hired an assistant". Okay I get that you are tired and you didn't expect the size, but she charges by hour. Why would we need to give her a number of people, you get paid by the hour. We hired you for x hours so you do as many people as you can in x hours. It's as simple as that. Once again, this is why a 1 star was given The big thing that tops everything off is that I hired her to do a Mehndi station for my wedding which was two days later. Let me preface this by saying we agreed to her doing a mehndi party two days before the wedding and for her to do a mehndi station at the wedding reception. Had I known she was this irritable I wouldn't have hired her for either things. So basically I emailed her early am Friday before the wedding day to figure out the payment for my mehndi and the mehndi station as she didn't fulfill her duties of finishing my mehndi, therefore the price would change. She emails me Friday late evening, which of course I didn't check because I'm busy wrapping last minute stuff up with family ,etc. Plus why didn't she establish a better system of figuring out payment, such as a deposit initially with a payment on or after the wedding. So basically I decided I don't know how much I owe her, so I'll mail her a check after the wedding since I didn't hear from her all day Friday. At least call me the morning of and establish how I can pay you, but she didn't do that. So at the reception site, she comes and does her work. Once again, guests reported to me after the wedding that they thought she was rude, which I was not surprised about. She stayed for 3 hours doing mehndi. At the end of the evening, while I was saying goodbye to all my family, she taps me on the shoulder (mind you in front of everyone) and says, "how are you going to pay me?". This is a legitimate question, but she could have easily asked to speak to me privately and we could have discussed payment in full. She caught me off guard and i was in shock. I did not bring my check book as I had planned to pay her via mail (another side note, she is related to a very close family friend of mine, so if she needed to hunt me down if I was sketchy she could have, but I'm not sketchy and she should have known better than to ask me this way.). So I asked her if I could mail the check and she basically says no. She then had the audacity to say, "Does your mom have a check book?" in front of everyone. That was a low blow. At that point, I became mad. I wanted her out of my face. She was making the end of my wedding night miserable, plus I'm spending this negative time with her while I wish I was with my family/friends. I was so upset, I found my mom and had her write her a check to get her out of the venue. I was furious. She did apologize via email after b/c she knew she was unprofessional, but I wouldn't recommend her. read more

Kamala made my wife look amazing! Her legs were decorated in a Mideastern geometric style. Her forearms were wrapped in an Indian floral theme but with a twist: on one are she painted an Indian Princess and on the other a Mexican Gentleman with a sombrero as a reference to our cultural backgrounds. My recommendation is to ask Kamala what SHE would like to do and most likely you will have a very creative result. Great price too which included hosting a mehndi party. read more
