So today we just bought 3 packages of disposable stove burner covers. Glad we bought different sizes as her stove is fairly industrial and needs the larger size covers. We go here once or twice a year and shop for plates and bowls for our house. You can buy one or more of any style. The prices are excellent. The service is fast at the register. They wrap each dish in newspaper to keep it safe for your travels home. If you've never been here, I recommend checking it out. It's hard to imagine you wouldn't leave with a few things that you didn't know you needed. Lastly, it's worth noting that they are very consistent in their brands. So if you buy dishes and a few years later, need to replace one or two due to breakage or wear and tear overtime, they will likely still have the exact same item. I almost always find something random here to buy. The have a ton of woks, pots, bowls, sushi plates, and pretty much anything you'd need in a kitchen. In my opinion, they could have better quality/better shaped chopsticks. I bought a nice stainless steel sieve/scooper made in Japan that I really like. I also like the three piece plastic tub, basket, lid contraption that I got from here. It keeps herbs like cilantro really fresh. In the past I found cute little ziploc bags and very small netted zipper bags for laundry that have not reappeared sadly. You could easily spend 30 minutes to an hour browsing all the goods here. The place is big in my opinion cause you will be walking around the aisles looking at every kitchenware. There is also residential and meter parking. You will find plates, sauce holders, chopstick holders, pots/pans, rice cookers, water boilers, etc - the list is endless! Pricing isn't bad, I found bowls that I've thought about buying in Japantown for a few bucks less here (~$6), as well as some chopstick holders for like $2-$5, while some places sell them for double the price. I actually came here because I fell into the matcha hype. I was able to find a set that came with everything, but they also sold individual items for less than what they sell at Japantown - from bowls and whisks to chashakus and strainers. They had a lot of bowl options without a spout and limited options for with a spout. I was able to find one or two sets with a spout. I will say, do your research cause I think with the nice set I got, they probably sold roughly the same on Amazon. I was still happy to walk around the store and check out everything if I ever needed to. They had a Zojirushi rice cooker that I've been eyeing for like $50 less here! Definitely worth a look! Kamei Store, Clement Street, San Francisco I have been a loyal customer at Kamei on Clement Street for many years. I often buy cleaning supplies for my house cleaning business - dusters, mops, plates, and other household items. Because of this long history, I never worried too much about keeping receipts, since I always pay with my credit card. Recently, I purchased a thermal water bottle (around $14). At first, it looked fine, but when I pressed the button, the bottom part of the bottle collapsed inside. The bottle was brand new, never used, and could not hold water at all because it leaked immediately. The original Kamei label was still attached to the box, clearly showing it was purchased there. When I returned to the store, I wasn't asking for a refund in cash. I simply wanted to exchange the item or apply the value toward other purchases. In fact, I planned to buy many more things that day - much more than the value of the bottle - because I needed several items. Instead, the staff refused, saying that without a receipt and because they "didn't know how long ago it was purchased," they could not replace it. What made the situation worse was the way I was treated. While I tried to explain, the staff ignored me, laughed, and started speaking in another language among themselves, making me feel disrespected and unwelcome as a customer. After many years of supporting this store, I was shocked at how little value they placed on my business. In the end, I left the broken bottle with them and went to the shop across the street, where I was treated with courtesy and respect. This isn't about $14 - it's about customer service, respect, and professionalism. Kamei lost a loyal customer because they chose to dismiss and disrespect someone who had been shopping there for years, and they lost much more business in the process. If you are considering shopping here, avoid stores like this - there are many much better options nearby that treat customers with honesty and respect. read more

For my neighbor, I found glossy bowls decorated with goldfish and for me, basketweave trays the perfect width of my Williams-Sonoma Swedish shelving*, just right for grouping and keeping pantry items organized. The first time I entered this gem of a store I was in a rush but it deserves our time to slowly wander and see the vast amount of practical inventory either to get organized or kit out your kitchen and beyond. But hey this place ain't Crate & Barrel or William Sonoma. Plus I have never bought any larger ticket items from them, so I have no clue about the return policy. Kamei carries restaurant supplies mostly catered towards Asian restaurants. The prices are reasonable and there usually is a good selection of things to choose from. They also have really cute mugs that we use for our home that we can't find anywhere else. It's also next to a lot of Asian grocery stores so it's pretty convenient. My partner and I recently stumbled upon Kamei when we were on the hunt for some coffee maker related items. Totally glad we discovered this gem in the Richmond, as it's a wonderland of kitchen and housewares. The store is primarily very much a restaurant supply destination. You will find stacks and stacks of bowls, plates, and various containers/utensils, etc. Of course, this isn't to say that you can't take advantage of these items to stock your own kitchen. We were very tempted to grab some of the many cute cat-themed plates and bowls. The store also has a lot of other miscellaneous kitchen items that you will no doubt need at some point. For us, we were specifically looking for a replacement lid for a coffee grinder (whose led unfortunately fell and cracked.) While we didn't find this lid, we did find a great bodum replacement grinder AND the perfect individually-sized bodum french press. And to top it all off, I scored a sweet tanooki statue (which now defends us from all those other mischievous ones trying to steal our loot.) Yay for Kamei! read more
