Shane Peck came to our home today and checked out the air conditioner for the coming season…read more Everything was O. K. and he was very helpful, turning on the outside water for the season, something I cannot do these days. We were charged $101.66 for the service which was fine with us. We have had Shane as our service person a few times now, so we had a good visit again. Ron F.

Thielmann: I'll try to give a brief background. The furnace (unit also has AC component) in my…read morecondo was having white smoke/steam come out of the external vent during some of the extremely cold weather we were having. Even though my furnace was not making any unusual noises, smells, or setting off my carbon monoxide detector, I was still concerned as no other condos in my building or nearby buildings were having the smoke/steam. The employee that initially inspected by furnace (Carlos?) informed me that the heat exchange was clogged and would require me to repair the furnace or purchase a whole new unit (I opted for a whole new unit based on its age). Carlos gave me the impression there was no rush and that it was not something that necessarily needed to be done immediately. When the second employee (Dave?) came later that day to take measurements and verify the replacement unit needed, he made it seem almost emergent and began to wonder aloud if he needed to shut my furnace off that day. The stark contrast between the two was alarming and created a bit of a trust issue on who to believe. Carlos seemed a little green and Dave seemed like more of a veteran. Dave eventually determined it did not need to be shut off as no carbon monoxide was entering my condo. The whole experience did create a bit of a panic for me though, so I quickly accepted the only available appointment within the following two weeks. It was convenient that they could get it replaced just five days later, but if it truly wasn't an emergency then I would have liked a little more time to verify I was getting the best price as it wasn't cheap (to give you an idea this is the largest purchase I've ever made behind my home, education, and car). They do offer payment plans that were easy to enroll in, one of which has 0% interest if paid off within a year. I'm not trying to throw anyone under the bus, but I can tell they really want an honest review as I've received multiple texts and emails asking to leave one. The crew that showed up on the morning of 12/24 to install the new unit were quick and efficient. They were respectful of my property and explained the new thermostat to me. All the employees were friendly, including the ones running the office over the phone (Micah?).

Our 21-year old Carrier A/C unit died…read more Jim Huntley ("Comfort Advisor") did a fine job of detailing our equipment and warranty options. I will say his (sales) job was rather easy. We weren't debating or negotiating the purchase. We wanted a new unit ASAP. We picked the more expensive "heat exchanger" model, and away he went. Jim did help us decide to buy the more modern "ecobee" thermostat. There's a learning curve with that. Not only did the install technicians remove all the old equipment and new installation mess, but they actually left our home cleaner than they found it (just like my parents taught me to do). Thanks to technicians Keith & Rob. They were prompt, efficient, friendly and went the "extra mile" in every way. All involved were great - Jim, Brenda, Keith & Rob.

I had an appointment for a $179 A/C tune-up. We had been customers of 1st Choice for 26 years and…read moreregularly had "Steve" as our tech. He was knowledgeable and honest. He retired, the company changed hands a couple years ago and this is what happened. The new tech "Nick" arrived and immediately declared our existing unit obsolete. He never layed a meaningful hand on the equipment. Since it was 26 years old I decided to go with his advice which lead to cursory look at our furnace and a caution that "Carrier" was fazing out of residential HVAC equipment and they no longer sold it. He suggested that we stop right there before he did any "work" and have his brother "Dan" come in to give me an estimate on replacing both units. He said there would be NO CHARGE for him since he hadn't done anything. He left and Dan came an hour later and gave me an estimate for roughly $14,000. It was emailed to me. When I looked for it the first thing I saw was a bill for $135 for "Cancelling the Tune-up"! There was nothing wrong with my equipment so I called the "office" and this awful receptionist, Heather, immediately got defensive. She insisted that the technician should have told me about the charge and that she would have a lien put on our house if I didn't pay! She Hung up when I told her that she likely just caused her company to lose a $14,000 job. I called back the next day, hoping to get through to anyone who understood the situation. If they were going to charge me $135 for nothing, I wanted them to come back for the $179 tune-up. "Heather" answered again and refused to forward the call, and hung up again! I am a respected business man in the real estate and financial business for over 40 years. I have given out hundreds of referrals over that time. I would never recommend this HVAC company again if they were the last one on earth!

I want to thank Kyle from Tom's Heating for the excellent job he did…read more He discovered that I was out of fuel oil because the gauge on my fuel oil tank was stuck and also very hard to read. He ordered a new gauge and it is so clear to read and works great. He also cleaned out the sediment that had gotten stuck at the end of the line from running out of fuel oil. Now everything is working great! My experience with Tom's Heating has been excellent.

We paid Tom's good money for a Carrier Infinity furnace 9 years ago and have had it inspected and tuned up numerous times. However, we've had a recurring problem with the inducer filling up with water leading to total loss of heat in sub-zero weather. We recently called another reputable HVAC company who immediately diagnosed the issue. Instead of using the proper drain tube kit that should have come with our furnace, Tom's installed a cheap vinyl tube to a piece of 90 degree PVC pipe, then glued it to the drain trap. We later learned that this is absolutely NOT recommended as it is very prone to kinking and clogging which was the root of our problem. Even after I brought this to their attention, Tom's stubbornly refused to admit any wrong-doing or take any responsibility for the error. They would not even honor the 10 year parts/labor warranty unless I first paid for a service call. The rude person I spoke to just about insinuated that they are the only ones qualified to service my furnace and that I was in the wrong for getting a second opinion. How arrogant and insulting! I absolutely refused to hand this company more money just for them to drive their little truck out and still claim they did nothing wrong. We took our money to a far more knowledgeable competitor and the issue was fixed very quickly. I'll never waste another dime at Tom's.
