I had an appointment for a $179 A/C tune-up. We had been customers of 1st Choice for 26 years and regularly had "Steve" as our tech. He was knowledgeable and honest. He retired, the company changed hands a couple years ago and this is what happened. The new tech "Nick" arrived and immediately declared our existing unit obsolete. He never layed a meaningful hand on the equipment. Since it was 26 years old I decided to go with his advice which lead to cursory look at our furnace and a caution that "Carrier" was fazing out of residential HVAC equipment and they no longer sold it. He suggested that we stop right there before he did any "work" and have his brother "Dan" come in to give me an estimate on replacing both units. He said there would be NO CHARGE for him since he hadn't done anything. He left and Dan came an hour later and gave me an estimate for roughly $14,000. It was emailed to me. When I looked for it the first thing I saw was a bill for $135 for "Cancelling the Tune-up"! There was nothing wrong with my equipment so I called the "office" and this awful receptionist, Heather, immediately got defensive. She insisted that the technician should have told me about the charge and that she would have a lien put on our house if I didn't pay! She Hung up when I told her that she likely just caused her company to lose a $14,000 job. I called back the next day, hoping to get through to anyone who understood the situation. If they were going to charge me $135 for nothing, I wanted them to come back for the $179 tune-up. "Heather" answered again and refused to forward the call, and hung up again! I am a respected business man in the real estate and financial business for over 40 years. I have given out hundreds of referrals over that time. I would never recommend this HVAC company again if they were the last one on earth! read more

Too expensive. Asked them to come out to replace a thermostat. Trip charge was about $160 and then they called and said it would be $750 to put a new thermostat in. I turned it down and called E&R Heating and the trip charge was $125 and then the thermostat plus install was another $100 for a total of $225. I have rental properties that I don't manage anymore so I haven't had to call an HVAC person in years since the property manager does that for me. I knew the price should be around $200-300 total and almost $1000 was just insane. read more

Was wonderful until new ownership. They wouldn't honor the warranty for our furnace that we purchased from them due to ownership change. Had a quotes done that were way overpriced. Had another company come out and quote us to find out the quotes they gave us on our equipment didn't need repair at all. Very disappointing. read more

Justin the tech from 1st Choice was on time, courteous and professional. I have had him service my boiler for several years. I have a multi-level 1970s contemporary home with radiant heat. Not always the easiest to service when water lines are in the slab. He tested the system for leaks and provided an easy-to-read condition report after the service. Fair pricing as well. read more

Our 21-year old Carrier A/C unit died. Jim Huntley ("Comfort Advisor") did a fine job of detailing our equipment and warranty options. I will say his (sales) job was rather easy. We weren't debating or negotiating the purchase. We wanted a new unit ASAP. We picked the more expensive "heat exchanger" model, and away he went. Jim did help us decide to buy the more modern "ecobee" thermostat. There's a learning curve with that. Not only did the install technicians remove all the old equipment and new installation mess, but they actually left our home cleaner than they found it (just like my parents taught me to do). Had annual service completed. It took 3 phone calls to get that scheduled because according to the person I talked to. If I wasn't a subscriber of there maintenance program I don't get immediate service. Once I got an appointment the guy was late. Claimed my system was failing. Did not provide me with quotes just quickly showed me these over inflated costs on a tablet and used scare tactics to try to pressure me into paying the crazy price for a repair and then to add salt to the wound charged me a higher rate for the tune up cost (189 per unit) claimed if I had a membership it would have been 169 but on the radio they were advertising 150 and he refused to honor it. Today I had a true professional come to my house for a second opinion guess what. My system is in perfect working order. For 10 years the service was great. As soon as I got out of warranty the service quality went south quick. read more

Seems there has been a sever degradation in the quality of the service provided over the last few years. They have one of the highest dispatch fees, labor prices were highly inflated 6-10x that of other companies, and then the repair lasts less than 30 days if you can get them to fix it since they insist you need a new furnace. I called to give them the opportunity to make things right and they told me there was nothing they could do it was my problem that I didn't use their warranty services. I look at all the 5 star reviews about how quickly they were able to come out and how they "needed new hardware" and I just wonder how many of those could have been $100 repairs by a different provider. Our air conditioning went out during the hottest time of the year. When calling different companies I felt that First Choice was the friendliest on the phone so I went with them. The service man Anthony and sales man Jim were great to work with, easy to talk to, and answered many of my questions. I felt they were very professional and really knew their stuff. The office staff was outstanding as well. We needed to replace the whole AC, condenser and furnace unit due to its age. The day of the installation went beautifully. They handled an upsetting time for us in the best way possible and I will highly recommend this company to everyone. read more

Extremely unhappy with the company. Hade an air conditioner and furnace installed two years ago and have done regular maintenance on both. Despite this I have hade more problems with both the new air conditioner and furnace than I ever hade with my 30 year old furnace and air conditioner. Would NOT RECOMMENDED THIS COMPANY. Stay away poor instillation and protect quality. I am so disappointed in the this company that I don't even want to use them for my maintenance moving forward. read more

They installed a furnace and air conditioner in our home several years ago. Supposedly they are under new ownership and no longer service the MILWAUKEE area. So they installed their product and now will not maintain it. POOR SERVICE! I will never recommend them to anyone read more

I was a customer of 1st Choice Heating a Cooling for 10 years or more. They installed a furnace in my prior home and just under 3 years ago installed an a/c unit in my current home. Had great service from them up until my most recent interaction. My a/c unit has a 10 year parts warranty and a 1 year labor warranty. The condenser fan motor went out. The part is 100% covered but the labor is not covered. I was charged $160 for a trip/diagnostics fee, then the quote for labor was just over $900. I was able to negotiate the labor down to $650 which is still extremely high given the repair took less than an hour to complete. Price gouging their customers by including filing fees and processing fees in with the labor fee for repairs where the parts are covered and labor is not. The owner was rude and condescending in his communications through the BBB. Claimed I was the problem since maintenance wasn't done on my 2 year 10 month old a/c unit. I would not recommend 1st Choice Heating & Cooling. read more

Wayne and his crew at 1st Choice should be everyone's first choice period. His pricing was way lower than the nearest competitor and they stand behind their goal of perfect customer service. Wayne even came out and took pictures to assist us in selling a house for a relative. I can only say if ever company performed in this manner you would never have to pick another HVAC company. What a great experience with this business! I had them put in a brand new furnace in this past winter and had them install a new A/C unit two weeks ago. There installers were super friendly and explained everything before the installs and after the installs. The installers also cleaned up the area they were working in unlike others companies that i have dealt with. They kept within the time frame and I couldn't even tell they were here installing anything. There prices were great and kept within there price quotes. I'm not sure where these other people writing negative reviews are coming from but based on my experience's with them I will NEVER use another business. Every person that i spoke with at 1st Choice was polite and never forced me into those uncomfortable situations. I ALWAYS do my research before selecting a business and 1st Choice was definitely the top choice of them all. I would recommend them to anyone out there looking for a honest business to deal with, not to mention all of my friends. read more
