And we waited some more. While we waited, three other parties came in, sat down, questioned the menu, then got up and left. Had it been just us that had that reaction to the abbreviated menu, I would have voted to woman up and just stay put. I didn't want to be "those tourists" who get all riled up about something local that doesn't fit their expectations. But once we (finally!) got our coffee and asked the waitress for clarification, we realized we had to go. The menu was the menu. Their sides - which are referenced on the menu but are never explained - were lackluster for the "base" and even less impressive for the "premium" options, which of course would have cost us even more money. That, paired with the uninspired and surprisingly one-note menu just drove us right out the door. My latte was at least delightful, but that's all I can say. Also, the place was likely very clean, because we were hit by a powerful smell of disinfectant and/or cleaner when we walked in. And finally, the waitress removed my menu after she saw me taking a picture of it. She didn't touch anybody else's menu, just mine.

There is one handicapped space next to the entrance with no steps hindering travel. Walking in, there is a hostess stand with a sign saying to seat yourself. One of the servers also called out to sit anywhere as we entered. Seating is mix of tables and booths. The entire decor is mainly bright red with a 50's diner vibe. The dining area is bright and open so walking around is not an issue. There is also an additional large dining room in rear. We were there for a late lunch and there were only two other tables occupied. We preferred a booth but the first two we tried had not yet been wiped down from previous customers. We selected the third option, and our server came by immediately as we sat down and took our drink order. The menus were already on the table. She returned with the drinks in a very short time and took our food order. We had each ordered unsweet tea but received sweet tea. Actually, when we told the server she said she thought we meant half-and-half sweet and unsweet tea. She did quickly replace the drinks with the correct order. Just something to be aware of if you really want unsweet tea. While the name is Jailhouse BBQ, the menu does not seem to highlight the BBQ offerings. The menu covers a full page but only five items are BBQ entrees. My dining partner selected the BBQ nachos and I tried the cheeseburger and fries special. The food took between 10-15 minutes to arrive. The BBQ nachos used commercial chips and canned nacho cheese. The lettuce, tomato, and onion seemed fresh. The pulled pork provided was limited and buried under the nacho cheese so it could not be evaluated on its own. It did not seem to add much to the flavor. The BBQ sauce was pretty good, but the addition of the jarred salsa was distracting. I would have preferred only the BBQ sauce without added salsa. The hamburger patty was a decent size. There was no char on the outside and overall little flavor from the apparently unseasoned meat. The bun was fresh and the thinly sliced tomatoes, onions, and lettuce were all fresh and plentiful. The American cheese was melted over the burger. The cheeseburger was fine but nothing special. The accompanying fries were a mixture of overly crispy and soft. These had little seasoning but were fine when dipped into the BBQ sauce. I separated out the overly crispy bits and wound up with about 2/3 of the order remaining. The menu contains a few southern diner-type offerings along with cold sandwiches and salads. There are a decent number of sides and appetizers as well as a kid's menu.
