Welcome to Bristol BBQ (BBBQ). I was driving down the Volunteer Parkway, hungry, and in need of some food. It was maybe 30 minutes before BBBQ closed. I've seen it there, sitting off to the side, on several other trips. Often there's a line (which is a good sign). My thoughts - Pal's is just down the road and they have a good burger, or I can try this place. I make the u-turn and give BBBQ a try. I got the bbq pork sandwich, with tots, mac and cheese, and beans. All were decent. It was not a "OMG, I never knew it could be this good" experience, but it was surprisingly good to come from a hole in the wall drive thru on the side of the road. Will I try it again? Yep. We're fortunate to have so many great BBQ places in Bristol. This one is special, not only for its hospitable service and great food, but for it's unique building design, which included a greenhouse where peppers are grown for their food. Update 7 years later. Portions are noticeably smaller and the potato salad has gone from fantastic to just ok to nasty over the years. No one in the house would eat the potato salad today. The bread pudding is still the best I've eaten. read more

Had driven right past several times after my recent move to the area. On a couple of other occasions I missed either their opening or closing time. Glad I was persistent. I was craving good brisket ever since I moved here 3 months ago. Without mentioning the names of the several other restaurants I had tried, I will just say that overall I was underwhelmed. THIS place knows how to prepare brisket. Just the right amount of fat for an overall tender product. Perfect Smoky flavor with the right amount of bark. The flavor was excellent and did not really need any barbecue sauce even though they serve a very good one which is tomato-based rather than the mustard stuff one gets traveling up through the Carolinas and Georgia. This is more reminiscent of the great brisket served in so many Central Texas BBQ joints. I'm glad I found this place before I went into total BBQ withdrawal syndrome. read more

Been by here many times over the years and wondered how good it was but this past Saturday i pulled in at lunch and ordered a bbq pork sandwich with mac and cheese plus the beans as my sides. The bbq is just ok, not really pulled but more like chopped real fine not really getting any smoke flavor that i could taste. For the sides the mac and cheese was undercooked so the noodles were very firm but the beans were excellent so you cant go wrong with the beans. read more

On a road trip from Texas to Virginia, we were hoping for a good drive-thru BBQ spot for lunch. This place definitely hit the spot! My family and I all got the pulled chicken BBQ sandwich, and it was absolutely delicious. The bread is nice and flaky, and the sauce is sweeter than I was used to but quite good. The macaroni and baked beans were both awesome choices for sides. The worker was also very nice. She helped with our order AND after we realized a large Dr. Pepper was too big to fit into our cup holder, she happily split it into two smaller cups. She even offered to just give us two additional drinks instead of splitting that. All in all, it was a great eat. Would definitely return if given the chance. read more

Ordered: pulled pork BBQ sandwich w/ coleslaw and BBQ beans. Also ordered loaded fries. Fries are amazing, large enough to split between 2-3 people if eating as an appetizer or side. The fries come topped with pulled pork, BBQ sauce, cheese, ranch, jalapeños, and green onions. Unfortunately they were out of jalapeños, but the fries were great without them. BBQ sandwich was delicious! The bun was high quality, sauce was sweet, and portion was perfect. In true southern fashion I topped my sandwich with my slaw, which complimented it well. The BBQ beans have a kick, not my favorite , but my husband enjoyed them. Our food came out hot, fresh, and quick. Staff was very friendly and professional. We just pulled into Bristol and our first stop was Bristle BBQ. WOW, they didn't disappoint. Got the pulled pork platter with cole slaw and baked beans. All we excellent, very tasty. My gal got the hickory bar b questions chicken with fries and slaw... " yummy" was her review. Along with drinks it was a great meal. They are drive-thru only. Well worth it, will definitely return because the only have ribs on Friday and Saturday. Nice folks, very informative as we were from out of town in Bristol for the Rhythm & Roots Festival. So delicious! We might've ordered a little much (hehe) but everything was awesome & we did not waste one bit of food :)) We got 2 pork sandwiches w/ 2 sides each. For the sides, we got coleslaw, BBQ beans, and pulled pork. (Tip: If you get your 2 sides as pulled pork & order an extra bun, you can make yourself a second sandwich!!) We also got ourselves some loaded tots due to the peer pressure here on yelp... Oh gawd that was something else. It was sooo good ~ but I think if I were to get it again, I'd ask for light BBQ sauce. The tots were drenched in BBQ sauce, but I thought it might've been better if you could taste more of the tots & less of the sauce... But maybe it's because I'm not from the area. Stopped here driving back up to PA after our honeymoon. We tried to hit Dixie Outpost first as it was closer to the highway, but they were closed. We're so glad we came here instead. These guys were out of most meats (only had pulled pork and chicken, and were also out of baked potatoes) but it didn't end up mattering at all. We got the pulled pork platter w/ bbq beans, cole slaw, and Mac n cheese (2 sides were included), then an order of the pulled pork loaded tots. Everything was excellent. I've eaten a ton of bbq in my day and have to say Bristol is up there with the best. Just the right proportions of smokey, sweet, and vinegar. Loved the sauces. Make sure to ask for the carolina sauce in addition to their regular. I usually don't care for the mac n cheese at most bbq joints because it's almost always mushy. This stuff was perfectly cooked and had amazing texture. The beans were also great--not weirdly spicy or watery like many bbq beans you'll find in TX. Cole slaw was chopped finely which isn't my first choice, but the taste was on point and not too sweet or overpowering. All 3 were the perfect side kicks for that pulled pork. Even the roll on the side was delicious. As for the loaded tots, we devoured them. Not too greasy or crunchy--just right. If I lived near this place I would absolutely become a regular. All this for $20-the same amount of money we spent at McDonalds on our drive down. 100% worth the extra few minutes in the car. read more

We hit this cute little drive thru on our way to DC (my husband wanted to gaze upon the speedway and my son and I wanted to stand on the state line like the Geico lizard.... we are an easy to amuse crowd. We pulled up right when the place opened which we actually were not sure about since our phones kept jumping from Central to Eastern time zones! hah! The smells were amazing, I see they cook in those Green Egg cookers.... interesting! The lady came to the window almost immediately and was very friendly and informative. We asked what she recommended and all ordered the Pulled pork sandwich which for $6 came with one side or for $8 came with 2 sides. The bun was perfect, the BBQ was the bomb and the pulled pork was flavorful but mine was really tough! Everyone else in the car said their meat was tender so I guess it was a fluke, but I really don't like tough meat and I couldn't convince anyone to trade me! haha! We only ended up with 3 different sides to taste because we ended up with several doubles but we tried the potato salad, coleslaw and mac and cheese. The potato salad was terrible! We all gave it a thumbs down and decided it was like eating diced potatoes mixed with hard boiled eggs!? No sweetness, no pickle, no vinegar or even mustard bite.... just blah! The coleslaw was of the tiny diced veggie variety and had a wonderful flavor. The mac and cheese was not good at first bite, but my husband stirred it up (it was dry on top) and it was much much better. I guess they maybe prepackage their sides for quicker service and the cheese settles on the bottom!? It is a very small little out-of-the-way place which normally has the best kind of food I have found out. Not only is it very unique, but the food is incredible and they love animals, what more could you ask for. so I just drove 45 miles to come here again to get a sandwich and some more bones for my dog.
