It's been 10 days since our visit and I think I'm still sipping on that water. It was a LOT of water. Our order consisted of a two hot dogs, onion rings, milkshakes, and a hot caramel cake. The hot dogs were good. Not great, but good. The onion rings were very nearly burnt. Probably just a touch too crispy. The milkshakes were ok. But one thing moved this review from a 3 to 4 star: the hot caramel cake. Holy cow. I know it was relatively simple but the yellow cake cupcake, in a bowl filled to the brim with hot caramel sauce, and a tower of vanilla soft serve....YUM! I'd come back here just for that. The service was hit or miss depending on who stopped by the table. All in all, I'd return but I'd try a burger and get a hot caramel cake AND a hot fudge cake.

"Ma'am, I have to be in Asheville in two hours for a court case and don't have quite enough gas or enough money to get there. I'm not paying $1.69 for a new cup of coffee. How much is a refill?" Her expression still showed no emotion - certainly not any sense of customer service whatsoever: "We don't give coffee refills." I'm on a journey to lose weight and did not want a whole milk shake. I was also happy to find the inside of the restaurant was open since I needed to use the restroom! I went to the counter and ordered my $1 chocolate milkshake. That I stepped away to the ladies room. The restroom smelled like it was cleaned recently and was tidy. When you are traveling it's great to find a clean restroom. I went back to the counter and was advised she wanted to wait until I came out of the restroom to make my milkshake. I thought the gesture was nice but I placed the order before going to the restroom in hopes of coming out and getting back in the car. Big As Biscuits & Burgers is tucked inside a gas station but don't let that deter you for a second. These biscuits are no joke. So we stopped in, and the woman behind the counter was incredibly friendly and welcoming. We grabbed a ginormous biscuit for just over $3. She had all the single-serve jams and jellies ready to go, which I appreciated. We took it back to the car to eat. First impression: this thing requires two hands. It's massive. She had already sliced it for us, and when I opened it up, you could see the buttery pockets where it melted into the dough while baking. It wasn't ultra-layered and flaky like a laminated biscuit, but it was perfectly soft on the inside with a beautiful crunch on the outside. The flavor was spot on!!! Soft, warm, buttery and comforting. We added a little jam, though honestly it didn't even need butter. It was that good. If you're looking for a quick, satisfying bite that will absolutely fill your belly, stop at Big As Biscuits & Burgers.
