Lads... the mash tasted like an angel got notions and said "ah go on, I'll make this one myself." Bit of garlic, bit of peel, bit of magic. I nearly cried. We're not from Johnson City, so it might be a hot minute before we're back, but believe me--if I'm anywhere within sniffin' distance of this town again, I'll be leggin' it back to this place like a man late for mass. Ciaran, our server, was sound as a pound--quick, chatty, callin' us "friends" like he was adoptin' us. Man deserves a raise and a parade. The place is set up for tunes later on, loads of seats, loos clean enough to perform surgery in--madness. Prices? Couldn't argue with 'em even if I wanted to. NOTES: -This place is run on bare bones staff. I'd guess maybe two cooks and the single server. It is not a place to come if you need quick service or quick food. They're very friendly (even if you're not a local!), but definitely come when you have a lot of extra time. -This place is not accessible in the slightest. You'll need to go up two flights of very steep stairs to make it to the front door. The stairs are on the old side, and I was concerned about one breaking. There is no elevator. -The parking lot is relatively small and shared with a nearby Urgent Care. It's gravel and grass, and people mostly made their "own" spot where they wanted. As this made for a haphazard parking lot with small margins for cars, I wouldn't let a newer driver park here. PROS: -Lots of unique British dishes. We've never seen somewhere serving Bubbles and Squeak and lots of other dishes. If you're not familiar with niche British dishes, you'll probably have to pull out your cell phone to figure out what some of this stuff is - and that's really fun. -Food is really good. It tastes like food-your-mom-would-make instead of gourmet takes on these dishes. It has a really authentic, small business vibe to it. -Unique beers on tap too. You aren't going to find Bud Light or Miller Lite on tap here. All of their beers are unique pub fare. They do offer some of the American favorites in a can/bottle, but this is a great excuse to try beers you wouldn't normally have access too. -Despite the older age of the building, the bathrooms are very modern and very clean. Most gas station bathrooms are in worse shape than the ones here. CONS: -It's definitely a small, "small margins" business, and all of the cons that go along with that. Food took awhile, upcharge for using a credit card, non-focal dishes may have been frozen/reheated/canned, and parking was difficult. That all being said, we're looking to come back again, and the atmosphere (and the taste of their unique star dishes) make it one of those places you'll actually talk about when you're done with your trip instead of forgetting that morning you simply went to Denny's to scarf down pancakes.

It was clean and well laid out. There was ample parking and it was easy to get to. The service was good, as the waitress was attentive and checked on me regularly. She brought out the honey buttered croissant and was able to make recommendations. As for the food, there was several healthy options. A couple types of chicken, sirloin steaks, and fish options (salmon and white fish). I chose the Lemon Pepper chicken breast with rice and carrots and green beans as the side. The chicken was very good and flavorful. There were 2 breasts included so it was nice and filling. The rice was just enough to supplement the chicken with a little bit of carbs. The carrots were tender but lacked flavor. The green beans were average. Overall, this location was clean and friendly and had some healthy options to allow health conscious patrons some options. I asked that they make sure because to my knowledge nothing with bourbon is GF. She walked back to the kitchen and came back and said, "I just asked the kitchen manager and he said, "It is gluten free." I really didn't trust it bc there was clearly a lack of training. I asked for the ingredient list for the glaze she goes back to the kitchen. While she was in the kitchen I pulled their GF stuff up and it wasn't there. Within the menu online it clearly stated "gluten sensitive served without bourbon glaze." So, when she came back and to tell me again it was GF and the kitchen manager told her it was safe. I told her that the glaze was not GF and was listed online as it was not GF. She was like yes it is I asked twice. I then asked for a manager bc I know it is a lack of training and it is a very serious issue. If I would have eaten it I would have had a bad allergic reaction. She teas like I just asked him. So I said "Please I'm asking you to ask the Manager to come out." It took forever for the manager to finally come out. When one of the people I was with said it is taking him forever to come out. I said, " he is probably back there brushing up on the ingredients before he comes out so he knows what he is talking about." When he finally came out that was confirmed. He told me that he was sorry bc they told me wrong and that it isn't GF. I told him that he needed to do better at training the staff bc it isn't a waitress issue at this point it is a management issue bc the training isn't in place and if I didn't know what I was talking about I would have ended up with an allergic reaction that could have sent me to the ER. Giving someone with an allergy to Gluten can KILL them. I share this story for my other allergy people to triple check and if you have a gut feeling you need to sit there and research before partaking in the food. I did tell the waitress that it wasn't her fault that they didn't train her for this. My brother who is a manger and has taken the safe serving class told her to never take her managers word for it to always make them come out to talk to the person so if this was to happen and the person was to eat it she wouldn't be at fault.
