To me these cottages are great…read more I'm in 1610. It looks like it's been renovated since most of the Yelp Reviews. It's a 2 bedroom 1 bath with a sitting area and a dining table. It's advertised as a full kitchen but be prepared you get a single pan, toaster, random cookware, and a grill. If you read the occupancy its mentions 6 or maybe 7 can stay here? I have no idea how that would be possible as I am here with my wife, daughter, and mother in law and daughter is sleeping on the couch. All this aside it's still decent for the price. I am giving 2 stars mainly for the housekeeping people. They come at random times and maybe not at all? I have taken my own trash out several days because ants are common in Hawaii. I was stationed here and gave my family the info on that. The main issue is we have had 4 towels for our stay and these housekeepers have not changed them for a days. We even left them on the floor in a bundle in an attempt to make it more obvious they need changing and they still disregarded providing fresh towels. They have also provided 2 rolls of toilet paper for a 14 day stay. I expect things to not be provided by virtue of spending a career with Marines so we preemptively bought toilet paper at 9 pm on the way back from day adventures and thankfully we did or we would be out of luck because housekeepers didn't check that. We also have not had our sheets changed once in over a week of staying here. We were able to book the 7 days for myself (active duty) and my wife got her 7 day stay (also active duty). When the housekeeper crew shows up while we are here and knock on the door, I politely answer with "hey good morning come on in" And the lady looks at me like I'm some Kind of jerk off. Gives me a sense that she expects me to hand her the trash rather than coming in and getting it (like she would do if I weren't in the unit anyway). I think these units being further from the base gives the cleaning crew a "out of sight, out of mind" feeling? Or possibly that the price point on the unit becomes a "well you get what you pay for" type service. I have no idea. I'm looking forward to speaking with the front desk when it opens in the AM. Maybe it will be resolved.

That's where the good ends. The bathroom isn't great, there isn't a light over the shower so it's quite dark in there, plus it wasn't draining well so our showers were turning into baths. Room was pretty nice overall. We signed up for SUP, and it was my girlfriend's first time ever doing it. We expected someone from the resort to be there to show us the ropes and give us some information...there was absolutely nobody. We went searching for people, and the maintenance people didn't really say much of anything. We went into the Kahaluu bay area and I fell off my SUP once and ended up scratching up my leg and foot pretty bad...would have been nice to know the bay was only a few feet deep in some parts, with rocks on the seafloor to avoid. We also signed up for their big Saturday "Paradise Bay Experience Package" out to the reef to snorkel and to the sandbar to walk around. We signed up for a 10 am departure time. They called at 9:50 am to double check we were still going on the experience and I confirmed yes to checking out and yes to the experience. We went upstairs to checkout a few minutes later, and it took us a few minutes to do so because they said they wouldn't trust us to not return our towels and car parking pass after the experience, so we had to grab them RIGHT THEN. Okay fine, we bring those to them and notice from the front desk the boat for the experience literally leaving the dock at 9:58 am...WHY?!? I ask them and they say it was our fault, and we were supposed to be there at the boat 5 minutes early...NOBODY TOLD US THAT! Not when we signed up for the experience, and not in the follow-up email we received about it, which I'll attach below. So then they rush to call the boat captain to say to come back to the dock. You JUST called me 10 minutes prior and I said we were going on the experience, did you not communicate that with the boat staff? Clearly not. We end up jumping on the boat at 9:59 am after it had returned, so after all that hassle we were a minute early. No sorry from anyone, not even any acknowledgement from the boat staff. Long story short, this could easily be a 5-star hotel and experience if the hotel had a completely different staff, filled with people with more compassion, customers service skills, and a greater care for hospitality.

The small unit has a queen or king size bed, a mini kitchen, no oven, microwave etc. It has a full size bathroom, and it accessible. I would say the small unit is for two people, ike a couple or a small family with one child. I would 100% come again! You should definitely stay here!

Checking for availability was a simple e-mail inquiry, though I could have called as well. Response was prompt and concise. Reserved room through e-mail and called to give them the credit card info. There are two units, both sectioned off from the house with private bathrooms, one with more space and a kitchen. We chose the smaller unit which was cheaper, only $75 a night for the end of January. The place is two blocks from the beach and there are two beach access points nearby. I was nervous, given the low price and my unfamiliarity with Kailua. All my fears were gone the minute I saw the place. A large bed, a private bathroom, a mini-fridge, microwave and toaster oven. Even a television with cable and room for our stuff. While not top of the line, the room was everything I expected. Barbara and her husband were gracious hosts. We had immediate answers to any questions and a nice patio with a pool at our disposal. Bottom line: if you want a nice, simple starting point for your daily excursions, check into Auntie Barbara's now. For the price and amenities offered it can't be beat. It missed four stars for only one reason: parking. The house is set back from the road down a narrow driveway flanked by a concrete wall and a fence. Parking next to the house and getting back out is a nightmare. Thankfully we were able to utilize street parking and walked down the driveway to our unit after the first day.

The "courtyard" also worked well for gatherings and Carolyn pulled out some folding tables for us. Each unit has kitchen and living areas for privacy, but we felt all together in a mansion. The area and shops etc was fine, we felt like locals. The beach is incredible, and the walk down in literally 2 min. You take your coffee cup down there, and there might have been 2 people and 6 miles of beach. Water safe and warm and clean and amazing. Local park right next to us was pleasant and not a disturbance. We where there new years on 2024, and had the time of our lives

Neglected upkeep, noticeably inadequate cleaning, insects crawling on the floors, and unprofessional interactions with the management team. There aren't many options on this side of Oahu, but I don't recommend staying here. We were expecting rustic, but this property fell short on the following for us. 1. Grungy bathroom with only a retrofit micro shower. 2. Smoke detector missing from one of the bedroom ceilings. 3. Greasy substance on kitchen counter and cabinet doors. 4. Debris on top of the backrest of the well-worn couch. 5. Dirty windows and worn out screens. 6. Gross trash on the sidewalk at the stairs up to cottage 11. 7. Lots of rust and dry rot that require exterior repairs. 8. Flock of about 150 pigeons roosting and defecating on the roofs and power lines at the property entrance and parking area. 9. Worn out bedding blanket. 10. Window blinds in disrepair. We tolerated all of this without complaint. However, we did ask the person at the onsite office, Jennifer, to ask the guests staying in the unit above ours to please respect the stated quiet hours, especially when their young children would wake up and loudly begin their day before 6:00 AM. She said she'd have Tommy address this with them that afternoon. No change that night, and we checked the onsite office multiple times the next day but it was always locked. After another two nights of disrupted sleep for all four of us without follow up from management, we decided to cut our losses and leave a day early. Since the office was still unstaffed, we called the offsite management office. At that point, things went from bad to worse when they were extremely rude to us. They kept saying that we did not give them an opportunity to address the issues when we had done exactly that in person a few days before. But in their minds, since we had not called the emergency phone number, our other efforts did not count. Carolyn Rose's apology to us consisted of, "I'm sorry you were confused about how to contact us about the situation."

It is very comfortable clean Hawaiiana Style ( IYKYK) (for that reviewer that said dirty-smelled obviously doesn't stay in Hawaii or has never stayed on the islands very often) , anyways-its perfect for two or three people. A big bed with a pull out couch. She stocks everything for the stay from TP to drinks to goodies, breads, sweets,fruit , left in the microwave, on dishes, including anything and everything you would need to have a wonderful stay. No not 5 course meals!! But your in a suite hello?? thank you Janice for a beautiful place to stay, your generous hospitality, and your such a sweet soul . We definitely coming back as we come. every couple years our Ohana is here.
